  • Hey Everyone!
    Here's my take on one of the Bone Valley's busier days, that just happened to occur when we went out on May 31, 2023. Including everything from phosphate trains to locals, and even a surprise W train! Enjoy

      I’ve been down to the Bone Valley and handful of times now, this was by far the busiest I’ve ever seen it. Thanks for watching!

    I have so much family throughout the bone valley. I was born and raised in that area.

      @multicolorfilms I miss it at times. My grandma's house was literally 50 ft away from the tracks in Bradley Junction, Florida.

    Nice video. To answer your question about the other 2 cars on W001, they are there to assist the geometry train and its crew. The 994527 Southern Pacific Birch Grove is is sleeping/dormitory for the geometry crew. while the 994367 Florence car provides power to the coaches as well as tool and equipment storage. The 6025 GP40 is also assigned to W001 as it has been modified to run at passenger speed even though it rarely does so. The 994527 SP car is temporary on CSX will eventually go back to Mid Atlantic rail car. CSX is working with at third party contractor to have a new coach converted into a split sleeper/power car for W001 and the SP and Florence are just place holders as the new car to being worked on. I believe the eventual plan is to get the 994367 Florence car painted into the CSX B&O paint and put onto the W003 geometry train set as the crew that runs that train has been wanting more storage.
    If you have any more questions about the CSX geometry or passenger equipment feel free to ask, I would be happy to answer.

      Wow thanks for all the info. In that case, I’m glad I saw those vintage cars while still running. Thanks again!

      @@multicolorfilms Of course! Especially of them shoving with the TGC-2 car. Not many videos of the rear horn on that
      Forgot to mention that the 994367 Florence car is a former ATSF baggage car. It’s actually identical to some of the heritage baggage cars that were on Amtrak. The car was named Taos and was actually used on the Amtrak Disney tour special in 2009. Then CSX brought it around 2017-18 I think

    Very nice video, well done! The more things change elsewhere, the more they seem to stay the same in regards to the Bone Valley. Its been a few months since I've been able to get down that way but it seems they're still running the same few usual symbols with the same mix of power. I do have a couple of minor corrections and a few clarifications to offer;
    2:32 - Actually B371 will be picking up an empty train of wet rock hoppers to take from the New Wales Refinery to the mine at (South) Fort Meade where the hoppers will be loaded with wet rock phosphate for the return trip.
    5:56 - I love the symbols running along the map. I do have a question though, is the map of your own creation in regards to the highlighting of the rail lines? When it comes to the Bonnie Spur, the little westwards extension is long gone from the northern part of the spur, while the wye connecting the old spur to the Bone Valley Subdivision is gone as well. Some of the rails are still in place but the switches have been torn out for a while now.
    8:09 - Technically the lead engine is a CM44AH. The 7000-7200 series are the CM44AC's, rebuilds of CSX's AC44CW's. The 7500 series are rebuilds of CSX's 500 series CW44AH's.
    12:32 - So the facility you see in the background isn't actually the old Nichols Mine. That was located in the fenced off field that Nichols Road curves around between NE Nichols and SE Nichols and has long since been demolished. What you see in the background is the old Carolina Virginia Chemical Plant, where they tested the feasability of extracting uranium from phosphate. The only reason the old facility is still standing is due to topsoil contamination from radioactivity, something that they're in the process of cleaning up right now.
    13:03 - So New Wales is a processing facility while Nichols was a mine. The mine shutdown to the exhaustion of mineable reserves. As mining moves south along the Peace River Basin, each mine has a certain amount of permitted reserves, after which when the reserves are exhausted, the mine is shutdown and new mining facilities are constructed further south to service new mined lands. Mosaic currently has three rail served mines, two of which are active in South Fort Meade (currently mining out the Eastern Reserves Extension) and Four Corners/Agrock (currently mining the Ona Extension) with one mine idled (South Pasture). A new rail served mine is currently in the permitting process in Northwestern Desoto County, called the Horse Creek Mine.
