    I don't know how I missed this one, but I must say, Danny, this is probably your best camera work yet! Those units look sharp, and I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm jealous that they are all down there, but we do have the new SD70MAC rebuilds up here, so, I guess it all balances out.

    What I like so much about Danny's videos is it isn't just trains but a story about what the train is, where it's operating, what product is being moved, local history, rail and signal history and use along with lots of quality train videos. Thank you!

      It's more of a relief than an honor, unless the technology is beyond your scope of training. I'm pleased to say they stopped tossing old heads into new equipment without training them first on how it works finally. (whew)

    A very nice first look at these locomotives in service, Danny! Those horns should be brand new K5LA horns. The reason they sound different from some of the newer ones on Amtrak is because of EMD's air setup and mounting location on the locomotive.

    • @southeastmichiganrailfan5764

      I was wondering why they sounded different from other K5LAs I've seen. I've only caught one ST70AH on CSX Q630 and the horn was way different than I normally hear on CSX

    As much as I like the GE locomotives, these new EMD units are beautiful. The short blast of the horn, sounds like some of the crossings that have their own horns.
    Great video! Thanks again.

    • @walterfink9782
      @walterfink9782 5 років тому

      @phillyslasher yes, I love the GE units, as I said. It's no wonder, why you see so many more GE units now, vs EMD.

    • @hakeemsd70m
      @hakeemsd70m 5 років тому

      @phillyslasher I disagree that anything from EMD would be unreliable, as it's virtual impossible to kill a 645 or 710 prime mover. In locomotive or marine applications, these engines are truly bulletproof. Heck, even power plants use the 710. I can't comment on electronics, but I know the EMD prime movers. I've heard this anti-EMD rhetoric quite a bit, but on the flip side of also heard many guys and gals say that the EMD's pull well and are reliable and quiet. Ask a Union Pacific or BNSF guy or gal about the SD70M or SD70MAC respectively, and you'll get nothing but compliments. They love those motors. Have you ran one of the new ST70AH's?

    They got a horn that changes key in the middle of the chord I heard and are curious if they all will sound like that.
