Wonderful videos! Thank you for making the time to produce them. There are many HA options available and one question not addressed is which has proven to be the most effective. Synthetic vs. avian, Synvisc, Synvic One, Supartz, Orthovisc, Hyalgan, Euflexa and in combination with Cortisone or not would be quite beneficial to patients considering viscosupplementation for Chondromalacia patella. Thanks for taking the time!
That’s a really good question. And it’s really hard to discuss the differences between each brand because some of the ones that you offered aren’t available in all countries. Many physicians have their preferences as to which ones work better. Synthetic versus avian is another consideration. Many people prefer the synthetic versions, as they’re vegan, friendly, and also less irritating. When it comes to brands, you have to look at the molecular weight of the structure. Too high or too low of a molecular weight can also be irritating to a joint. The other thing to consider is the disease process in the joint. The more advanced a disease, the less effective the injections can become. There is some evidence that combining them with Cortizone increases their effectiveness. There’s actually one formulation available in Canada, which has a premix with this. However, the take home point is that there is high variability, and if you speak to each company, they will tell you why their product is the best.
I did a hyaluronic treatment couple days already to my meniscus, and I didn't know about plasmas,..I have question, can I do PRP after few months, in case ?Thank you in advance !
I would love to have a detailed explanation as to how effective this actually is. I’m suffering from a work knee injury and travelled to North Miami to get it repaired. Unknown to the fact it was available in Canada. I’m coming to see you for a second injection soon. ( Just done, August 7th, 2024).
This is helpful. i wanted stem cell therapy for my osteoarthritis in my knee most of my cartilage is gone. I already did the EUFELEXXA injections now they don't work cortizone never worked for me. I stand up and have to wait to walk ( like a warmup) then I can wall ok. The office was trying to push HA. I am traveling to Italy in October (now August) and need to have better movement. I do not want to have knee surgery. I do intermittent fasting so I was thinking PRP would be best bc my fasting timelines go into stem cell regeneration so i feel PRP will work with my fasing routines in regenerating.
Have you considered adding Prolotherapy to your tool kit? Basicall, as I understand it, injecting dextrose to stimulate tissue regeneration of ligaments, etc. If you've heard of it, do you have an opinion on it and could you do a video perhaps?
Thank you Doctor. I had 2 PRP’s in my knee to treat a 2nd degree meniscus tear and so far nothing much has changed in terms of knee movement and I started to worry a bit…
I have also had locking on my knees due to meniscus tears, so I started doing stationary bike few times a week for around 20min, got a PRP injection with subsequent rest and then started with physiotherapy. It helped me a lot. I could see the results comparing the before and after MRI. Right now I have full range motion of my knees
Can prp help with spd… in 2 years post partumn but my spd is still terrible the joints are now rubbing against each other and I can hear the scratching … walking makes me sore and my lower back ligaments have become lose according to a mri scan…. My doc want to give me a cortisteriod injection but I’m a little apprehensive due to the long term side effect of them …. Please help …. Also thank you so much for sharing knowledge it really is power ❤
I found your channel and find it very educational and helpful. I had surgery on my left knee - valgus knee not sure how that happens, the pain at times is at the lateral side of the knee and bearing weight on it, it crunches. Pain or discomfort does not happen until after exercise. According to surgeon which was done 1992, he said there is not too much meniscus left in that knee. Do you still think i should try PRP ?
Glad you found it helpful. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide personalized medical advice on the channel since I don't personally assess each patient. This would need to be a discussion with your doctor.
Late to comment but, HA is offered in either 3x20cc shots or 1x60cc. Is one better than the other? If you were to combine HA and PRP (say HA followed by PRP) how long after the HA injection(s) would you wait? Meaning, would all that HA interfere with the PRP? Thanks!
Me = Chond. Patella (stage 2/3); Pain only using stairs. Had series of 3 HA injections a few months ago. Results, not much help (also did PT). Medicare paid it all. Now, I can get PRP or Stem cell. My research the 2 can last about 1 to 2 years. Stem was not really better than PRP because one's stem cells (I'm 72) aren't that great; any cartilage growth is inferior cartilage. PRP: $850, Stem: $3,800. So if they last the same amount of time I think PRP is the choice. OR should I try the HA again? Maybe get the series of 5 shots if the Dr will agree? Great video, btw. TIA. Wondering also why shark or pig cartilage can't be transplanted?
I've gotten the durolane shot and my GOODNESS, I have been in more pain than delivering my babies! I'd rather deliver another baby than go thru this pain ever again!! It's been 7 days of throbbing pain, all day AND night.
Hello I am having a meniscectomy and I was wondering if I could get hyaluronic acid injected at the time of the arthroscopic procedure. I have meniscus tears and The generation of my articular cartilage in my knee. I really am just trying to buy some time before I have to have a T KR. Thank you for your videos.
both my knees are bone on bone and i am in extreme pain when walking and even sitting am on a waiting list for shots into my knees i do not know what kind i am getting all i know is i NEED relief and able to golf daily again using a power cart its driving me crazy Is there relief in my future or am i destined to be in pain the rest of my life I am 59 years old thx for your video and your channel cheers from Vulcan Canada
It would depend if she responded at all to the first PRP. With the first PRP injection was beneficial, sometimes the second one can augment the effect. If you found out, the PRP didn’t do much, sometimes I will also move to the hyaluronic acid injection as our next step.
I’ve used PRF for my hair loss and it’s had such a drastic change in thickness and length!
Yes in addition to joints and tendons, PRP can also be used in cosmetic treatments.
May I ask Dr, in which city do you live??
Your information is really helpful. Thank you!
Doctor injecting some great knowledge into the world 😊
Glad you think so!

Great advice doctor. Could you comment more about stem cell injections into joints. What kind of approach to this treatment potentially works best?
Thank you! Unfortunately I don’t perform stem cell injections in my practice as it’s not approved in our country.
Hi doc, can we get injection PRP and HA at the same time?
Dr Sonam can you mix HA/ with BPC 157/TB4 for osteoarthritis meniscus injury
I cannot speak to this in particular as it in not a treatment approved where I practice.

It is an option and can be done. I just don't really do that in practice but it will work very similarly to PRP. It induces an inflammatory response.
@@SonamMD Yeah, I hadn't considered that those two approaches would have opposite effects. Thanks for the clarification!
Thank you Doctor. I had 2 PRP’s in my knee to treat a 2nd degree meniscus tear and so far nothing much has changed in terms of knee movement and I started to worry a bit…
Sorry to hear that. Some meniscus tears can cause mechanical blocking which can only really be resolved with surgery.
@@SonamMD My doctor told me I don’t need surgery, that’s why I started to do prp’s
@@PBV722 Fair enough. I would definitely defer to your treating MD since they have all your medical information. I am speaking more generally.

It’s been 3 weeks since i had PRP in my ankle and I have much less pain. Is this common? Like you, my doc also says many weeks.
Thx
It can happen that early. I’ve had some people get benefit much quicker than others. The timelines I give in the video are general.
Hello, Dr. Does PRP work for big toe artheritis? Thank you very much in advance.
Me = Chond. Patella (stage 2/3); Pain only using stairs. Had series of 3 HA injections a few months ago. Results, not much help (also did PT). Medicare paid it all. Now, I can get PRP or Stem cell. Great info-thank you!! Can this be applied to the ankle subtalar joint for arthritis?
Yes, absolutely
I have questions how about shock waves therapy well that helps ?
2- what about pro therapy or prozone ??
Do you ever suggest both PRP and HA being injected at same time?
I don’t personally do that. You can stack PRP and HA in a short time period between each other. I would prefer to do one injection at a time.
Love Love Love. Are you sure you are not from TRINIDAD. The talk and hand gestures is your give away.I am from TRINIDAD. Trying PRP.❤😂
Haha first time I’ve ever heard that. But nope I am not.
Do they do PRP for back pain? Great info ma’am.
It can be done. Usually this is complete by interventional physiatrists or anesthesiologists and is done in a hospital setting.
Can you please make a video about treatment and injection options for labral tears?? Can you do PRP and HA for labral tears?? TIA!
Both can be done in the context of labral tears.

This would honestly be a question for the surgeon. Some will consider this, others will not until after the surgery.
Can you combine HA and PRP together for better effect?
There is no research on this, but people have stacked these injections. I would not do them the same day, but could perform 4-8 weeks apart.

@Sonam MD stame cells video please
I think you can slow it down in your UA-cam settings.
yup you can!
could you tell me what brand you have had success with because last year I received a different brand and it did nothing
In Canada I have used the following HA brands - durolane, cingal, monovisc, and synvisc. They do differ country to country.
Hi Doctor Sonam, can I take PRP and HA injection at the same time ?
I don't personally mix them in the same session. Usually if I use both I space them out a few weeks as well.
My wife took PRP injection 6 months ago. But still gets pain after walking 1 mile?
Should she get one more PRP shot or Hyaluronic injection?
It would depend if she responded at all to the first PRP. With the first PRP injection was beneficial, sometimes the second one can augment the effect. If you found out, the PRP didn’t do much, sometimes I will also move to the hyaluronic acid injection as our next step.

Can I be treated by you with us military insurance
Unfortunately, I can only treat Canadian patients. Your case would have to be dealt with in your Country as military insurance can be very strict.
You r awesome.
Which Injection Do You Prefer? Do you have a favourite?
Dr PRP is always my favorite, however would you recommend to get PRP + HA in one seating or getting them few weeks apart to each others? Thanks 🙏🏻
Please speak a littel bit slowly beacaus I am waching in Germany Thank yuu
You can slow down the audio. It’s a UA-cam feature.
PRP equals risk of clots.
Not sure I understand. Can you elaborate.
