      Yes in addition to joints and tendons, PRP can also be used in cosmetic treatments.

    Wonderful videos! Thank you for making the time to produce them. There are many HA options available and one question not addressed is which has proven to be the most effective. Synthetic vs. avian, Synvisc, Synvic One, Supartz, Orthovisc, Hyalgan, Euflexa and in combination with Cortisone or not would be quite beneficial to patients considering viscosupplementation for Chondromalacia patella. Thanks for taking the time!

    • @SonamMD
      @SonamMD  5 днів тому

      That’s a really good question. And it’s really hard to discuss the differences between each brand because some of the ones that you offered aren’t available in all countries. Many physicians have their preferences as to which ones work better. Synthetic versus avian is another consideration. Many people prefer the synthetic versions, as they’re vegan, friendly, and also less irritating. When it comes to brands, you have to look at the molecular weight of the structure. Too high or too low of a molecular weight can also be irritating to a joint. The other thing to consider is the disease process in the joint. The more advanced a disease, the less effective the injections can become. There is some evidence that combining them with Cortizone increases their effectiveness. There’s actually one formulation available in Canada, which has a premix with this. However, the take home point is that there is high variability, and if you speak to each company, they will tell you why their product is the best.

    This is helpful. i wanted stem cell therapy for my osteoarthritis in my knee most of my cartilage is gone. I already did the EUFELEXXA injections now they don't work cortizone never worked for me. I stand up and have to wait to walk ( like a warmup) then I can wall ok. The office was trying to push HA. I am traveling to Italy in October (now August) and need to have better movement. I do not want to have knee surgery. I do intermittent fasting so I was thinking PRP would be best bc my fasting timelines go into stem cell regeneration so i feel PRP will work with my fasing routines in regenerating.

    Have you considered adding Prolotherapy to your tool kit? Basicall, as I understand it, injecting dextrose to stimulate tissue regeneration of ligaments, etc. If you've heard of it, do you have an opinion on it and could you do a video perhaps?

    • @SonamMD
      @SonamMD  7 днів тому +1

      It is an option and can be done. I just don't really do that in practice but it will work very similarly to PRP. It induces an inflammatory response.

    I found your channel and find it very educational and helpful. I had surgery on my left knee - valgus knee not sure how that happens, the pain at times is at the lateral side of the knee and bearing weight on it, it crunches. Pain or discomfort does not happen until after exercise. According to surgeon which was done 1992, he said there is not too much meniscus left in that knee. Do you still think i should try PRP ?

    Late to comment but, HA is offered in either 3x20cc shots or 1x60cc. Is one better than the other? If you were to combine HA and PRP (say HA followed by PRP) how long after the HA injection(s) would you wait? Meaning, would all that HA interfere with the PRP? Thanks!

    Me = Chond. Patella (stage 2/3); Pain only using stairs. Had series of 3 HA injections a few months ago. Results, not much help (also did PT). Medicare paid it all. Now, I can get PRP or Stem cell. My research the 2 can last about 1 to 2 years. Stem was not really better than PRP because one's stem cells (I'm 72) aren't that great; any cartilage growth is inferior cartilage. PRP: $850, Stem: $3,800. So if they last the same amount of time I think PRP is the choice. OR should I try the HA again? Maybe get the series of 5 shots if the Dr will agree? Great video, btw. TIA. Wondering also why shark or pig cartilage can't be transplanted?
