  • Again, I saw no footage of Bobby Leonard's playing career from the NBA today despite him passing away so here is one more video I had of close to complete game-tape. 22 points and I counted at least 3 assists and 2 steals in the incomplete gametape from Packers at Knicks 10/19/1961.
Thanks to a private collection from UA-camr @70sFan. Check out his channel and Patreon to see more of what he's got and enable him to collect more great gametape like this!

Ball fakes, behind the back pass, lethal jumpers, 60 foot buzzer beater, this guy was the real deal

The more you two collaborate the better it gets. It's not just the biggest names between these two channels it's like 60s and 70s heaven, with even some early Mikan and Pettit stuff thrown in.
Makes me wonder just how far back the film goes because I've seen plenty of 50s basketball but have to wonder: does it go all the way back to the 20s? Surely there were some people taping college ball back when filming was in its infancy.

Bob Pettit was a "pure" basketball player, so smooth, like Oscar. Pettit was also a terrific rebounder. Bill Russell was a great admirer of his.

...I mean if he was allowed to carry, travel and offensive foul and no big men camping in the paint hed be even better...also you do knows that about 98% of players now would be T/O machines and foul out of every game in the 60s-80s right?😂

OG basketball is very fun to learn about.
This guy wouldn't make a G-league team today, but he helped pave the way for the evolution of the sport.

@@handlebucket6285 That's a very interesting way of thinking about it.
It's crazy how far the sport has come, and how much higher the skill level has been elevated. Call it "training," but it's like horse racing vs. NASCAR the way the speed of the game has changed.

Probably, but there probably wouldn't be such a thing as a "d2 basketball team" if they hadn't made their contributions to the sport.
It's interesting how cerebral the game is - a lot of the advancements today are more the result of thinking than athleticism - see, e.g., Chris Paul, who turned "over-dribbling" into "routine alley-oop setup play."
