    To answer ur question early in the show, the most basic g shock, dw 5600 and it's close cousins - do also display the actual time when in stopwatch and timer mode.

      There are lots of Casios who show the current time in stw and cdt mode. Ironically it's often the cheap "entry" models which do that, and one of the reasons for me to buy only those instead of the overprized stuff.

      @@LV-42617 I seem to find quite a few that don’t show the time after you start the CDT or stopwatch, too. Time is always a huge issue to me. :(

      @@thevineclimber Well, on the smaller "entry level" Casio watches, the W-202, W-204, B-640 is a good way too start. I think the W-800 shows time in other modes as well but the lack of a countdown timer is a deal breaker for me and I don't care enough for that model to unlock the timer via soldering. The wave ceptor models WV-58, WV-59 and WV-200 are also capable to show current time in cdt and stw mode, although timer and stopwatch are limited to 60 min. unfortunately. Realistically considered the GD-350 is probably the most useful Casio made to date since it ticks all boxes including the vibe alarm.

  • @LV-42617
    @LV-42617 4 місяці тому +11

    I have (had) them all, but the W-735H was the the one I quickly sold, because the display is too crowded with all that unnecessary clutter (circles) which result in smaller digits. The W-736H is my favorite and one of my mostly worn digital watches out of about 60. The display is one of the clearest and uncluttered of any Casio and the buttons are a pleasure to operate, opposite to the TRT-110H where the buttons are mostly a pita to press but because of the mud resist structure this is understandable. The GD-350 (I have 5 of them) is in my opinion among the top 5 G-Shock's made to date. Rugged, mean looking and highly functional. The digits size is about the same size as the 736H and 110H but showing the current time in stw and cdt mode is a plus, that and the backlight that can be set to 5 seconds duration. Overall they are all great with strength and weakness but if I had to decide for just one, it would be the W-736H for me.

      Don't judge too fast, the TRT-100H is a good watch but the buttons are hard to press due to the mud resist structure. For the avarage watch wearer this might not be an issue but for someone who quite often uses the timer and the stopwatch it's a pita. The W-736H is so much better in that matter, it's not even comparable.

    Hi Anne !!!
    Many years ago !!! I worked in a Medical Center. It was at the beginning of implementation of diagnostic machines such as MRI & CT scanners. Well no one told me if you have a wrist watch with a jewel movement, the magnet in the MRI will destroy your wrist watch.
    So after some inquiries, I found out the majority of the technicians had G Shocks. So I got one circa 1986, & used it until I retired in 2021. I went through at least 5-6 bands. It went camping, swimming, it was with me in New Orleans during Katrina, Sandy & countless other urban response activations when I Worked for the US Army Corp of Engineers.
    I consider my G Shock & several other items I have as my EDC/SURAE equipment Special Urban Response Activation Equipment.
    I never owned a vibrating Casio that you reviewed here but I'm going research them !!!
    Thanks for another great video & walk down memory lane to years past.

      😁 As an electronics engineer, working with and close to powerfull radio transmitters (and even strong magnets until a few years ago) the magnetic field a watch has to endure was something i looked out for when looking for a watch for work. (-> The relationship between electric and magnetic field was taught in engineering school 🤷‍♂)
      Sure the magnetic field i'm in is way less than what an MRI can do, but i remember MRI's making headlines long ago when the induction of the field caused metal particles in tattoos to heat up so much that they left burned scars on patients.
      Either the power of the MRI's or the frequency or the tattooing machines (or the colours) must have changed, because i haven't seen any sign warning of tattoos in the last decade.
      Anyways: there are even mechanical watches that are protected against magnetic fields. Some are very expensive, some just at a high pricerange comapred to a g-shock.
      Manufacturers like IWC or Sinn use a soft iron inner housing that works up to a mangetic field suitable foraround powerfull radio transmission for example, but still not enough for an MRI. And i can tell you that this makes the watch heavy.
      (i think they are at 0.1Gauss, while an MRI usually is at 3-4) And Omega as far as i read has a few fancy models (much to shiny to use at work) where they changed the materialy of the movment so the magnetic field doesn't matter much. No idea if they changed the material of the hand to though)
      And as a user of such a Sinn watch, i still put on my G-shock when i have an MRI appointment (not that it happens that often, and i take the watch off in the changing room, but magnetic fields don't always just end at a wooden door ;-) )

    • @joecat339

      My experience with the MRI was in the very beginning of their development & use. In the late 80s & early 90s
      My last experience with MRIs was 20 years ago & it was 2.0T machine. I didn't have issues inside the gauss line with my GShock LoL.

I'm curious if the vibrations feel the same on all 3. The 5th alarm on the gd-350 is a snooze alarm, meaning it will go off every 5 minutes for 30 minutes until you stop it. Also, once the alarm is going off, pressing any button on the watch will stop the alarm, including the light button. I think thats why the timer start button doesn't immediately start the timer again. Because it wants you to stop the alert first. Great video. Thank you!

      Hi! I actually would say that the two less expensive ones are the same and have the stronger vibration - the W735H and the TRT-110H; I assume the W736H would be the same. I think these are really great for that purpose, because the light is also excellent, so it's very easy to see the time.

    Must admit, I'd not heard of watches with vibrating alarms but seems an excellent idea ( esp. for reminders) as when you are out and about, you are very unlikely to hear the wimpy beep that these watches produce (I often can't even hear a reminder on my phone due to traffic etc).
    Unfortunately (for me), all these vibrating models seem to follow a big, bold design aesthetic and I don't really go for that. But now I know they exist, I'll keep a look out for one and certainly will be interested if they produce more subtle models.

    • @thevineclimber
      @thevineclimber 10 місяців тому +2

      Cancel does have some models that are more like smartwatches or phone connected watches that also have a vibrating alarm. I don't have the feeling they're really small. But you may want to look at the G-Lide vibrating series which looks the calmest of the bunch!

      I can recommend the Timex Urban Command and/or the Casio GBD-200 to you. Two vibrating digital watches but with a significant lower profile that the rest. Though the GBD-200 - while looking great (case and display) - has a piss poor UI, one of the worst I have ever seen on any watch. The Timex on the other hand is pretty straight forward, definitely worth a look.

      Timers can come in handy in other scenarios too: At work i sometimes have to get a clearance for working on a system, and when i call the repsonsible person we negotiate a timeframe. (for 2 hours, half an hour, 20 minutes...) And timers are handy with that, cause with one look you know how much time you got left.

      @nirfz 10 місяців тому +1

      @@thevineclimber 😁 I wouldn't call taking a break mundane. Breaks are very important. IF done right, they are good for productivity, and health of the person.
      (and better health of the worker equals to fewer mistakes and more productivity)
      And the workplace psychologist (my translation) we had, explained to us that the most important thing in a break is to not think about work you take the break from.
      ->Where i am from companies big enough (my employer has around 1k employees) arrange for "workplace medical assistance" or at least i would translate it as that.
      We get a normal doctor visiting around least 3-4 times a year where she either does vaccinations (tick borne encyphalitis, flue...) which then don't cost us anything. ->for those employees that have to work outside a certain amount of time the "tick vaccine" is free.
      Or does other short fast things that could help.
      And then we also got a psychologist visiting as often talking to us in group or single (if one wants/needs that). Or doing short lectures about things like techniques that could help with stress etc.

    • @thevineclimber
      @thevineclimber 10 місяців тому

      @@nirfz Wow, that sounds really good. And I would have to think that someone visiting that infrequently would probably more than pay for themselves in terms of better health and productivity. It seems like something that should be achievable in many places, I have seen or heard of things along those lines at larger companies. I think it would be really good for more places to have here because I do see that even really good companies which provide very good insurance, often have employees who work so much that they are not able to attend doctors appointments regularly. We meet them sometimes in the hospital or on the ambulance after it is a bit too late to prevent the problems.

    The regular electro-luminescent illuminator looks better, as it's a perfectly even (but dimmer) light. The corner hotspots of the super illuminator make it look like a low quality watch, IMO. Not that I have been able to find. The W735H, W736H, and TRT110H all have a single press restart, though. That is, when the alarm is going off, you can just press the bottom R button once to stop the alarm and start a new timer with the same duration. Thank you so much for the quick response. The idea is to have a break reminder after every 30 minutes that is set to auto repeat. I have tried smart watches but they always fails to alert on time. Do you think there would be any other watch options for me ?

      @alanthomas1661 I think you MIGHT be happy with the one button reset on the W735H, W736H, andTRT110H. It forces you to acknowledge that the break has started and then automatically resets for 30 minutes when you push the button; it's just one button push though so I feel like that's reasonable.
