    I worked in German car repair shops in the 70s & 80s. We called the grab handle above the Beetle glovebox the "Oh Jesus" bar.

    Great video! The hybrid is pretty slick because you don't need any solar/batteries. I have the same Stryker in my truck camper. I have found it is the best way to boil water mainly for coffee. I carry ~2-3 small iso-butane cans with me.

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  Рік тому +3

      There are some real benefits to the hybrids in addition to the incredible gas mileage! I have been impressed with the little Stryker stove too. It works really well and boils water fast. The fuel seems to last quite a while too as the stove is only on for a few minutes per boil.

    Thanks for sharing Melanie! You’re an inspiration! Although I have a house, I want to try car camping in my RAV4. You make your Prius look as roomy as my RAV4! I plan to keep the one seat up, too. There are a lot more things I can do sitting there, and it will be easier for me to get into the bed side. I hope you’re doing well!

    Living in a Prius seems to be totally doable and economical👍. I would like to add one piece of advice. I see too many videos of women saying to always keep your keys handy and quick to find in case need get out of an area fast. You actually clipped your keys onto something. A better way is just to always have your keys on your person. If you are on one side of your car with your keys on the other side of your car, in case you have to make a quick decision (sometimes very quick), to get out of a situation that just came out of nowhere, first, you have to make it back your keys , second, hop in the driver's seat and take off. Why spend seconds making it to your keys when you can just have them on you already and get the heck out of there, girl?! That's what I'd do, and as a matter of fact, I do.

    • @tripod4228
      @tripod4228 11 місяців тому

      Really good advice and I totally agree. If your car have keys it would be good to have them on you. The Prius only has a fob so it’s actually already to go with the power button ready to be activated. Just hop in the front seat and push power on. Most people I know who live in their Prius keep their Prius on all the time for power and heat/air conditioning so it’s just a matter of stepping on the gas. Thanks for your comment. Really appreciate your thoughtfulness. ~Mel

      @tripod4228 Yes, so a Prius would actually make an excellent life on wheels vehicle, especially for a solo woman out on the road. Good point.

    • @RobertWitham

      This one is a 2014 Prius V. I think it's a bit more of a station wagon style than the regular Prius models. My understanding is they don't make the Prius V anymore, but I'm still learning all of the Prius stuff!

      Great question! I am not personally familiar enough with the Prius line, but I will ask Melanie if she is comfortable weighing in on that topic. It was only less than one year ago that I even drove a Prius for the first time, but I do have to say that I have been impressed with it.

      From what Ive been getting gen 1 and 2 it's hard to find a good example, people don't take good care of EVS and they can total themselves more easily than a car if neglected. 2015 or newer - the battery lasts 10 years or more so you have headroom, it's the year that ironed out the issues I heard about

    What kind gas canister you use for the Stryker

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  Рік тому +1

      They’re the little iso-butane canisters like the JetBoil uses. They’re sometimes a bit easier to find that the butane canisters used by the more traditional stoves. In either case though I find it worth keeping a few spares on hand.

    what kind of internet connection would you use in the middle of the desert?

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  Рік тому +1

      We just use cellular data, but some people are starting to use Starlink which works fairly well as there are usually no obstructions. Cell data can work well if you are near major roads or not too far from towns, etc with towers. Once you venture too far out into the wilderness though satellite would be the only option. Much of Nevada, for example, has little to no cell coverage - including a lot of great public land areas.
