Excellent video!I just finished changing out my passenger side CV axle on a 2010 Sentra and I had to solve a couple of problems. Problem 1: the Wheel Sensor would not come out, it seemed to be corroded in, so I simply undid the attachments of the line that are in the wheelwell and that gave me enough play to rest the steering arm on a box. Problem 2: the Bearing Race that is on the CV axle was seized into the hole in the plate that holds it. I tried everything including beating on it under the car for probably two hours, and then I simply unbolted the 4 bolts on the plate, and took out the CV axle with plate. Then I put the plate in a vise and could whack on the CV axle with a 10 pound sledge, and out she popped. I then needed to sand out the corrosion in the hole for the bearing race that is in the plate. Problem 3: I was too cheap to buy a ball joint breaker, so once the nut was off it, I just hit the side of the joint with a hammer, and out it popped. Hopefully the above comments help, as it is pretty satisfying to not have to pay a Nissan shop the huge costs for this relatively easy repair.
iceraser1, dude that is a heck of a story! But my respect to you for being resourceful and tenacious in getting the job done. Thank you for sharing...tips will help all who watch this.
I'm running into the same issue except unfortunately, I don't have eyes or a 10lb sledge. So my plan it's to hit it with some PB blast, penetrating fluid, let that sit, and then blasted with a blowtorch and try pounding on it with a pry bar as a chisle
@@DumpsterFlies I had to take it to a buddy's house. He had a better clamp set up, and a bigger sledge hammer. I spent forever trying to get it out, but it didnt work. He pounded it out in a few minutes. Be sure to sand down the bracket before installing the new axle, though.
Thank you......Your video walk-through made it a breeze to change mine out. Instead of popping the tie rod, I took both bolts off the strut and was very careful about the brake hose.
I only put the same amount back in that came out. It wasn't very much as I recall. You will want to check yours to be sure of course. I am happy to say this car is still on the road....I made this video a long time ago.
Fuck that little disclaimer at the beginning. As far as I know you're a professional at all of these things. You are a life saver. I am replacing my struts, axles, tie rods, sway bars, serpentine pully, belt, and the water pump. If I can figure out how to get the alternator/water pump out! I've never worked on my car other than oil changes. So far it's tedious work, but I'm moving along!
Lol, how did I miss this comment. I am ASE certified on certain areas of auto-mechanics but I am not a pro by any stretch. How are you coming along with your repairs?
@@jcx2bby got it all done. There's dumbass bolts on the alternator that aren't supposed to be pulled out all the way, and I had to have a more seasoned mechanic buddy of mine push a little thing in on the side to slip the alternator out. Everything went well, and drove my car across the country afterwards. No breakdowns besides a fuel pump that was easy enough to replace.
My passanger axle boot is leaking. Car has 330K km on it. Ow would I know if it is the axle or just the boot? my passanger side wheel has positive camber and is wearing from the outside faster than inside. Can a broken axle cause uneven tire wear? Is ther a video on how to put everything back together? what was that liquid coming out of the transmission? where do you refill that?
Razz, if the boot is leaking, it needs to be replaced. You can replace just the boot but honestly, it's as easy and almost as cheap to replace the whole axle. Broken axle won't affect tire wear. For the installation, look at the link I posted in this video's description. It's in there. ....if you are asking what the fluid is that is coming out of the trans and where to refill it, this might not be a repair job you want to attempt. Not trying to be mean, but those are questions you should be able to answer on your own.
Thanks. Watched the second part of this video, and that would be transmission oil. Just thoughts the sentra has a closed transmission system and oil would not leak like this. Learning as I go along. My only concern is having a hard time removing and installing the part, and things getting stuck. Otherwise you showed exactly what to do. Another question if do you recommend changing the transmission oil? Mine has never been changed and car has 330K km on it. Read somewhere a while back that transmission oil does not need to be changed, thoughts?
You are very easy to pull out,my is stack, I want to see when the axle is stack there and not room for work, show me some thing difficult. I used sleight hammer and I did not removed,I will tray to do tomorrow.
Well first thing I'd do if I had room is try to tap on the bearing with a large screwdriver and hammer, or a rubber mallet. If that doesn't free if up you may to take the bracket off with the CV axle, again, if there is room to do so. Last resort, heat the bracket with a heat gun and see if that will help loosen the metal parts from each other
Is a long extension required to get to the two bolts surrounding the bearing holder or can they be accessed from underneath the car? Also looking at the drive axle on rockauto, and some say they do not include an ABS ring, is this relevant?
have the same car, I like how you jacked your car. Is that the main subframe of the car? I assume it's safe to jack your car there and use the jack stand also?
razz P, all I remember is that however I jacked it up worked really well. it was a friend's car so I don't recall exactly the details.... a lot of times you can get a good spot under the suspension and subframe, just have to look it over real good first
@@Cherrie32692 I see. Just take the nut loose, run it up to the top of the ball joint off and pound on the nut until the assembly breaks free.
