As an engineer my one cent take is:- Triump has 4 valve while the rest of bikes has 2 valve. 4 valve are efficient at high speed/frequency hence high performance at top end While 2 valve are inefficient at hight speed. Generally 4 valves are used in expensive bikes, but now they sell at comparable price with harly or re, I think triump is way superior. Like 2 core cpu vs 4 core are way different even though they have same architecture.
Folks! We'll compare the Harley X440 with rivals as soon as the test bikes are available! Also, there are a couple of errors in the spec sheets: The correct 0-60kph time for the Classic 350 is 5.25s and the same for the Hunter 350 is 4.95s. The rows for brake and tire information are also interchanged. The errors are regretted. Apologies for the errors!
In the age of modern highways , people who plan for highway riding should look for motorcycles that can safely lane change and overtake at 100 kph speeds . Acceleration matters and one of the safety aspect when it comes to avoiding accidents.
You are absolutely right with the first sentence. I ride my classic 350 on weekends in city traffic when going to a mall or a movie, but when riding back home, some of the road stretches are quite open and that is when I get bored of going too slow and Lazy. Having the lowkey power just to pull off while maintaining a low profile is very suitable for me.
Seems the RE is in for trouble now, can see a lot of people who have around 2L looking around and deciding they can raise budget to get something vastly superior!
Imo s400 will eat sales of interceptor too. I personally booked a int650 alloys, i cancelled the same day s400 came. The onroad of int 650 is nearly 1 lakh more. Being a really middle class corporate guy when i compared both i found i can have 90% of the fun of int 650 at 1 lakh less. Also after considering maintainance like tyre change, oil change, chain, brake pads etc atleast a single cylinder won't burn my pockets that much. But i would say choosing s400 over re 350s, cb 350s would be a no brainer for me.. I wish i had a bigger package so that i could afford 650. But thats the story of middle class guys. Ps i know i can pay emis but not taking any kindof debts has been running in my family since beginning 😂
Must say very quick to come out with comparison. Triumph 400 seems to be onto something really big. It is so far ahead in terms of performance and yet so close in terms of price and fuel economy that it’s inconceivable that a substantial chunk of RE customers don’t consider it seriously. Add to that the finishing and quality that is a notch above. One wonders why Hunter couldn’t have been upgraded to the levels of Speed 400? Or maybe now RE will come out with a new bike to cover that territory. All in all, happy days are here again for the bike lovers!
I am an RE CLASSIC 350 REBORN user. I've booked Speed. Just the bike I was looking for since very long time. So, I've already considered it :) Happy riding!
I'm a short guy and I bought a Hunter 350 a few days before S400 was announced. Although the S400 is quite impressive, I don't regret my decision cuz I needed a new bike immediately which I got and I'm very happy with my bike so far. Also, I'd personally wait and observe Triumph's performance and service quality for sometime in India before buying their bike. But I'm mighty excited and impressed to see all these new bikes being launched in India, hopefully the Indian bike market will have way more options in the next 5 years in the 200-400cc segment!
I own a 2019 Classic signals. 40k kms. And my bike feels fresh. Its so friendly. Apart from taking from point A to B i spend a lot more time playing with the bike. I disassembled and re assembled entire bike during the lockdown, now im riding the bike with single seat. Ive changes the tail light unit to the classic reborn, and with bar end mirrors now it got some killer looks. i ve met with an horrible accident and got out without a single scratch on me. Which i can confidently say any other bike i wont be alive by now. Even today the happiness i feel while on road is something cant be explained in words. I never found issues with vibration in my bike. Its actually very minimal wch i feel to be right amount that it kind of makes me feel more connected to the bike.
RE Classic 350 and Bullet 350 has loyal customers, mostly 35-55 age group. All these newer machines Triumph 400, RE Hunter, HD x440 may attract younger crowd 25-35 age group. There's no competition to Classic 350 at present.
Reviewers don't normally have to deal with service cost, parts availability/cost, aftermarket support, and daily convenience especially just going to the shops / office KTM does not even have shims to adjust valves in their service centers, enfield you can do it yourself at home. Generally Enfield makes more sense if its your own bike
The Classic and Hunter combined sell over 40,000 units per month. The Highness and RS combined sell 4,000 units per month. In terms of sales, Triumph 400 twins will be comparable to the Highness and RS and not the RE. They might eat into RE sales slightly but dont expect the Triumph twins to sell more than 5,000 units per month (thats the production capacity too as said by Mr. Bajaj)
Yes I don't know why reviewers don't take riding feel and engine character into consideration. This is how the comparo should be: 1. RE350 vs Honda CB350 vs X440 2. Speed 400 vs KTM 390 vs CB300R vs Dominar 400
I think Triumph are being cautious to start with. It is after all their 1st bike in this segment. However Bajaj has said that 5000 is the starting capacity, with a huge amount more available if sales demand it. Triumph are also tooling up 2 of their factories for the 400. I am sure RE will be taking this new platform very very seriously.
A summary of the comments in case you don't have the time to read them - Those that own Enfields perferred them. Those that don't own Enfields didn't. Everyone asked for other comparison videos which will no doubt come when those bikes are availble to Autocar. My summary; all 3 bikes are good choices depending on your needs, and the video was enjoyable.
Will this affect the cb350 market 🤔. Considering it was the only bike which actually gave a tough competition to RE , with its refined engine, reliability and decent service. Triumph and Harleys new machines may have good standards but they still have to be evaluated on reliability and after market service, which are one of the key factors for a hassle free experience.
after facing countless royal enfield frauds both from sales and service centre , finally i can say a worthy opponent has arrived....today i would only buy vintage RE bikes as they are easy to maintain and keep their values...
Back in the day, Bajaj created history by launching KTM, an unknown brand, into Indian shores and it became a smash success overnight. Today, it has become a household name, so much so that it completely dethroned Pulsar to become the country's most sought after sports bike. Of course, Bajaj could not repeat the success story with Husqvarna. Time will tell what becomes of Triumph, but right now it seems like Bajaj is on the right track. Yes, it is disappointing that Triumph completely stole Harley's thunder.
I am new RE classic owner and content so far. But I do feel Bajaj-Triumph brought the heat to its competitors and it would be really intriguing how other brands will try to match this. Such KO punch was required given for the fact that no other bikes offer things like speed400. Excellent content!
That was fast 😮. Didn’t expect the comparison video so soon. Autocar seems to be very keen to disperse the RE market 😂. Jokes aside I think the Speed 400 is leagues ahead in performance and refinement, especially coming from a RE loyal like me you can feel the disappointment 😢. But kudos to the Bajaj-Triumph collaboration they have really created a true masterpiece. This should be an eye opener for RE to ensure that the upcoming Himalayan 450 and other offerings have to fight for their place 👍
I feel the competition is only between speed 400 and classic 350 in the entire market of this segment. Even though their character is completely different, they are the best bikes you can get for that money. My heart says classic, mind says speed, I would have surely gone for triumph if they built another version with bonville (more classic) styling
Teenagers will stop buying RE for sure, only old people will buy them. Only problem with Triumph is their service. If Bajaj will take it up, it will be a plus.
I have been a loyal RE customer since 1982. However, this comparison is a no-brainer. Even if I compare my 500cc RE with the Triumph 400 it's a no contest. Importantly RE sell cheap bikes but the running costs are quite high due to the poor design and quality of components.
Foreign brands are using Indian companies to decimate Indian competition. I am not sure what to feel about that. The bikes are good but neither the speed 400 nor X440 has Bajaj or HERO names added to their model name. Not like Maruti Suzuki. Bajaj and HERO are also killing their own future prospects to come up with a world beating bike themselves.
1.7 lakhs hunter making it onroad 2 lakhs, 2.4 lakhs on road classic halcyon series, 2.33 lakhs ex showroom making it 2.7 lakhs on road 30K difference in the pricing makes a huge difference. Forget pricing but the aspiration for RE is unmatched why Jawa, Honda and others have failed miserably and not able to match sales. Again cost of ownership is affordable for RE.
I used to own RD350s and feel countless times. Then reclutently bought a Thunder Bird in College NEVER feel once. Then bought Himalayan recently, our Indian roads have too many untimely pedestrians crossing. The Enfield is the safest tank you can buy.
When ktm released the 390 it was priced very competitively but gradually increased the price in the coming years.....I think triumph will also increase the price of their new bikes....
I love, really really love the speed 400, but damn it the classic man, I just can't get over the classic. Its just something, am insatiable craving, to just sit on and cruise like I'm on some paradise. Gentle. Calm. Powerful. Invincible. RE Classic just somehow remains the unbeatable for me. But keep also, speed400 is a really really good machine. Can't beat classic, but it deserves respect.
After the arrival of Speed 400, the Classic 350 suddenly looks so much overpriced for what it is. Hunter 350 is more closely matched to the Speed 400 but the riding experience is totally different. Hunter is almost 60k cheaper in ex-showroom which makes the difference even higher when it comes to on-road price. For that money Hunter 350 is value for money. But if budget isnt a concern, the speed 400 is a better bike. Classic 350 is totally out of this.
In just 2-3 years, Re is launching maybe 4-5 450cc liquid cooled engine to the market starting with Himalayan 450. I think that will be direct competition to triump in terms of performance. Looking forward 🔥
Wanna bet? Those are are gonna be heavy as hell. The RE450 platform seems to be dated already. It's been one long wait. What Triumph is going to do is make RE eliminate all those unnecessary products and only keep the ones that have an ardent fan following. Like the Classic and the Himalayan. No matter how advanced of a bike you bring at this price RE fanboys won't budge
Speed 400 lacks one very important feature, NO DUAL HORN. You need a loud horn in India. I wish the India spec bike got front mudguard & tail section like the euro spec one.
Owner of the same Chrome Bronze Classic 350(bt w/o the back rest, looks better that way) Had it for 1 yr now So RE CLASSIC reborn one gives u these that none can- 1. Thump and feel of a pure motorcycle( u will love to ride it,even u myt start riding bikes just for the feel of that bike) 2. Control- Gooood (wid the ABS) 3. NO VIBRATIONS ( BAD ONES) as my man pointed out. 4. Mileage (well if u r planning to buy a bike like bullet, we should try to forget bout that, but the least i have got is around 25) 5. The looks, no bike can give u that 6. The straight back riding, tall feel( feeling of BHAUKAL, IF I may) - u will feel like a six feet tall hunk driving it. Hunter looks like a kid near my classic, and for those who know triumph well save more and buy a Bonneville, not a mix of Bajaj and triumph Buy and original RE, there is a reason all RE owners fall in love with there BULLET( Believe me, I know😌) And as for perforamnce, u have to decide if want a pure motorcycle(like classic) or a bike like (Ktm), the middle section like Hunter, ronin, I dont get.
07/02/2024. After marriage i sold by bajaj rs200(8 year) and want to buy a new family bike. I test drive honda cb350rs, triumph 400, royal enfield hunter 350. These three bikes are i like most. I test drive these bikes in city area. After that i chose RE hunter 350. and today i booked. Im very comfortable for this bike ,no heating, suspension is hard but its ok for me and good looking, easy handling, my foots are easily touch the ground. Triumph is more powerful and feature based like traction control, etc. its super fast ( A lot of heat was felt at the signal ). Im from kerala speed limit for bikes 60km hr .
Great comparison. I would agree that the classic 350 buyers won't be deterred by Speed 400 just yet. Rest of the competition can pretty much be sweeped by this bike. If Triumph brings in more models on the same platform with Thruxton, Bonneville or Street/Trident that's where the market is totally disrupted. Expecting good response from RE and other brands as well. So in the end the gainers are the consumers.
Thanks for an excellent review and very well thought through commentary! Not having to translate due your English commentary was also appreciated and made for a much more accurate assessment. So... for classic looks, it has to be the Classic. But for everything else, the Triumph. These bikes will all be sold internationally, and the problem with bikes whose maximum speed is around 110 - 120 km/hr is that in many countries the open road speed limit will be between 100 - 130 km/hr. If one wishes to not be blown off the road by a passing large truck, it's important to be able to cruise comfortably with no mechanical strain, at the posted speed limit. Accordingly in international markets, I'd say the natural competitor to the new Triumph will be the BMW G310 R and the KTM Duke 390. However, even the little G310R BMW is a little down on power for open road cruising at the speed limit, so that narrows it down even more perhaps, to between the new Triumph and the KTM Duke 390 Imho. Thanks again for a great video review!
What a time to be alive. Some of the greatest brands and bikes competing for value proposition when they are at the best of their game. What a time to be alive
The S400 being far ahead was no brainer. I am more curious to know where X440 stands compared to the CL350. Sure, design is a mix bag, but how does it feel on the road in comparison. Can it be a alternative worth considering? Pls do let us know :)
It's surprising that someone consider the Harley x440.. Is there any reason to operate a Harley without a large capacity V-twin just by looking at the brand? On the other hand, Triumph and Royal Enfield have their own history and image. They found the right place to attack. This Triumph will be a perfect bestseller in this category.
Triumph threat is real. However RE rider won't switch to Triumph, simply because most RE users are not capable enough to manage the Triumph's performance.
Would also love to know how it compares to the bigger RE 650s as an overall experience. Does the lure of a twin cylinder exceed the way the packages come together? (which is currently- not very well on the Interceptor vis-a-vis the Speed 400, which is definitely the more finished article)
I think the sales figure of triumph will be a little better than Honda, Jawa and Yezdi but it would never match that of RE... Also we have to see how they price the accessories and service. Also the number of showrooms and reliability of RE. Can't be a match... So iska bhi haal Honda, Jawa and Yezdi jaisa he rahega.
If the Triumph hits anywhere near the 'RE Price in Europe, it's all over. With the open tarmac roads and overtaking opportunities then nearly 40 BHP and 170 Kg is perfect. I personally ran a Yamaha Virago 535. 44 BHP for 5 years and it had bags of real world performance and having just rechecked the specs, I'm shocked to see the dry weight is way under the 'RE Classic! Game changer.
I buy a Royal Enfield classic 350 in 2021. And I have Some problem with that bike like Sensor,Vibration (after 60 kilometres it is so much vibrating) ect, Comparing to the previous years bike it is short also. How can you say RE is good Bikes & one of the top selling bikes?
Royal Enfield can't be beaten. Even if other bikes are very much superior. The brand image of re is something else in Indian market. And it will remain as it is.
@AutoCar Comparison, this soon , you guys are awesome!!! 👏 . . .Thankyou for helping potential buyers like us with comparo video, loved it . . . looking forward to test ride Triumph 400 🤠
I personally always vote for RE because it is the most "analogue" offer on the market today: halogens all around, air-cooled engine, cartridge oil filter and overall stripped to the bone simplest design. And I haven't even mentioned the pricing.
I got the hunter 350, it's an amazing bike and love riding it in the city and occasional highway, the second bike i have is the duke 390 which i use for more spirited riding, i dropped the Triumph s400 due to its poor service network and not a proven bike yet.
it woul be a good to see comparison with the other roadsters in the same segment- BMW G310R, Duke 390, CB 350R and the Dominar 400. The accelaration and the road feel.
Triumph 400's are like butter knife, sophisticated, looks costly, upmarket, few have it as a luxury in indian homes. Those who have it keep it hung up bfor eternity. RE Classic is like the regular rusty looking 10 bucks knife. You know the rest use, practical, ........ 😂
Just remember guys, loyalty to any company is idiotic. Choose what you want, not what others chose 😉
Bro you just triggered RE fanbois😂😂😂
Not including 440x is brutal
It doesn't belong here
I think the main competitor to the Triumph is actually the Honda CB300R.
Triumph: more power. more performance. more style.
RE: better than its previous version.😕
As an engineer my one cent take is:-
Triump has 4 valve while the rest of bikes has 2 valve.
4 valve are efficient at high speed/frequency hence high performance at top end

Like 2 core cpu vs 4 core are way different even though they have same architecture.
Folks! We'll compare the Harley X440 with rivals as soon as the test bikes are available!
Also, there are a couple of errors in the spec sheets:
The correct 0-60kph time for the Classic 350 is 5.25s and the same for the Hunter 350 is 4.95s.
The rows for brake and tire information are also interchanged. The errors are regretted.
Apologies for the errors!
Speed 400 has a strong buff look like the old Ducati Monster.
Looks Perfectly Proportional!
In the age of modern highways , people who plan for highway riding should look for motorcycles that can safely lane change and overtake at 100 kph speeds . Acceleration matters and one of the safety aspect when it comes to avoiding accidents.

I am an RE CLASSIC 350 REBORN user. I've booked Speed. Just the bike I was looking for since very long time. So, I've already considered it :) Happy riding!

Good to see Honda CB350 not included here to determine which is the second best bike in this segment.
This Bajaj Triump reminds me of how East India company used Indians to Conquer India. British haven't changed. 😂
I own RE classic 500, booked Speed 400 too. I am also one among 10,000 customers. So it makes me even more happy.
I own a 2019 Classic signals. 40k kms. And my bike feels fresh. Its so friendly. Apart from taking from point A to B i spend a lot more time playing with the bike. We want Royal Enfield vs Harley Davidson vs Triumph,
I would love to watch it.
The Triumph Speed 400 is probably the best single Bike Garage option in the market currently... amazing
RE Classic 350 and Bullet 350 has loyal customers, mostly 35-55 age group. All these newer machines Triumph 400, RE Hunter, HD x440 may attract younger crowd 25-35 age group. There's no competition to Classic 350 at present.
RE fanboys be like " RE can't be compared, RE is a feeling" yeah bro and that feeling is misery
Reviewers don't normally have to deal with service cost, parts availability/cost, aftermarket support, and daily convenience especially just going to the shops / office
KTM does not even have shims to adjust valves in their service centers, enfield you can do it yourself at home.
This is how the comparo should be:
1. RE350 vs Honda CB350 vs X440
2. Speed 400 vs KTM 390 vs CB300R vs Dominar 400
I think Triumph are being cautious to start with. It is after all their 1st bike in this segment. Royal Enfield slow yet feels good like smooth yoga
But triumph is fast hungry and very eager

Rather than putting a classic you should have got Honda CB350 and dominar
the triumph is unbelievable roadster. the power and features and attention to detail at price is 🔥🔥
That kind of performance with almost similar economy figures seals the deal for me!!
We need a comparison between Classic 350, Cb350/ cb350rs, speed 400 and Harley 440
I am new RE classic owner and content so far. But I do feel Bajaj-Triumph brought the heat to its competitors and it would be really intriguing how other brands will try to match this. Such KO punch was required given for the fact that no other bikes offer things like speed400. Excellent content!
Me a hunter owner about to watch the video fully knowing that we’re not winning this 😭 I love it tho
Both seem to be great bikes, I don't think you can loose either way.

Triumph 400 is like a mouth-watering exquisite delicacy we cant shop everywhere..
This bike can be a game changer, it is launched at lower than we expected. For 2.3 lakhs it sounds a terrific deal.
RE is no match. No matter how much you talk about it’s comfort. What an entry made by Triumph!
I own the hunter and it lacks power. Triumph is way better and I would say it's an upgraded hunter through and through.
Classic 350 is like a government job. Doesn't matter if it does it's job or not people prefer it and it gets paid!
I have been a loyal RE customer since 1982. However, this comparison is a no-brainer. Even if I compare my 500cc RE with the Triumph 400 it's a no contest.
Importantly RE sell cheap bikes but the running costs are quite high due to the poor design and quality of components.

Anyday Royal Enfield 650 twins and Honda Hness 350 are two gems that exist today.

I like the Triumph's performance but I prefer the size, looks, road presence, Riding quality & comfort of RE....
Well why Royal enfield
1. Availability of parts
2. Easy to fix
3. Vast range of service network
4. Emotional attachment i.e bullet
Great review. The only thing missing was harley x440
In just 2-3 years, Re is launching maybe 4-5 450cc liquid cooled engine to the market starting with Himalayan 450. I think that will be direct competition to triump in terms of performance. Looking forward 🔥
True
I am waiting for RE a hunter like miracle with the 450 scram
Even after 3-4 years, RE will be playing the catching up game with Triumph in terms of technology and engine refinement.
Speed 400 lacks one very important feature, NO DUAL HORN. You need a loud horn in India.
I wish the India spec bike got front mudguard & tail section like the euro spec one.
Owner of the same Chrome Bronze Classic 350(bt w/o the back rest, looks better that way)
Had it for 1 yr now
So RE CLASSIC reborn one gives u these that none can-
1. Thump and feel of a pure motorcycle( u will love to ride it,even u myt start riding bikes just for the feel of that bike)
2. Control- Gooood (wid the ABS)
3. NO VIBRATIONS ( BAD ONES) as my man pointed out.
4. Mileage (well if u r planning to buy a bike like bullet, we should try to forget bout that, but the least i have got is around 25)
5. The looks, no bike can give u that
6. The straight back riding, tall feel( feeling of BHAUKAL, IF I may) - u will feel like a six feet tall hunk driving it.
Hunter looks like a kid near my classic, and for those who know triumph well save more and buy a Bonneville, not a mix of Bajaj and triumph
Buy and original RE, there is a reason all RE owners fall in love with there BULLET( Believe me, I know😌)
And as for perforamnce, u have to decide if want a pure motorcycle(like classic) or a bike like (Ktm), the middle section like Hunter, ronin, I dont get.
I own a Classic 350 Reborn Chrome Bronze. Retro looks with modern technology.
Thanks again for a great video review!
size wise it is comparable to hunter 350. People considering classic will buy classic. No impqct at all.
Triumph vs Harley vs Classic
Video We wanted most ♥️
Chrome has a special place is everyone heart for sure
U can ignore hunter and other res. But Not easy to ignore this chrome classic
Triumph top speed=170
Classic & Hunter top speed=120
Classic 0-100=16 seconds
Triumph 0-100 = 6 seconds
God that's like comparing 250cc bike to TVS XL
Why didn't you include the Harley Davidson X440 in the comparison .
We want a comparison video between Harley and other bikes .
4:58 Mileage. City 30.67kmpl. Highway: 33.5kmpl
Triumph🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥& bro Great supper Review❤️❤️❤️
Speed 400 is definitely going to take away most or even all of the Hunter sales... Its a direct rival to Hunter 350..... Lets see....
classic is not about performance..its a classic timeless design...no one can compete with it...classic is love..
Do a comparison between Triumph Speed 400 and honda cb300r and duke 250 performance figures are closely matched here
I buy a Royal Enfield classic 350 in 2021.
I dont think it will afffect classic 350 market but Interceptor and hunter.
Classic 350 looks too much retro when parked near the other 2 bikes.
it woul be a good to see comparison with the other roadsters in the same segment- BMW G310R, Duke 390, CB 350R and the Dominar 400. The accelaration and the road feel.
Should had also compared with cb350
It's about who pays them , LOL
Which one is best for touring ??
Where is HD X440????
It must be there coz it'll make good competition as Cruiser/roadster from US based Brand
"New age RE have proven their reliability" ...
Meanwhile Sprocket breaks at 1500 kms odo!!
triumph is better choice value for money from luxurious brand double the power and torque its definitely a RE killer just go for it guys..
Anyday Triumph ❤❤❤
@@joelfernandes2048KTMs are also made by Bajaj...✋
Please make a comparison video on Re hunter, Honda 350rs, yesdi scrambler, triumph Speed 400, TVS Ronin, HD 440x,
Classic 650 will be fire .....I m waiting for 650
Nice choice of bikes for the comparison. I will choose the Triumph 400.
Speed 400🔥🔥🔥
Cant shake the classic customer base but surely can give competition to other retro bikes
Stunning model I liked is triumph s400 scrambler.because I liked the design.
