The Koko Head stairs are a must. I’ve seen all types of people doing them, and some with weighted vests getting in their exercise. There is also a botanical garden inside the Koko crater that is free. Somehow your channel popped up and I’ve enjoyed the videos.

Well make a wish is a wonderful resource for people…some people cannot make the journeys or full fill their wish list like you are doing for one reason or another. For those that cannot, your videos are a wonderful resource. I love how you mix the travel in with your piloting. FYI, that was Koko Crater you climbed. Koko Head is out across the highway. Hanauma Bay is the crater and Koko Head is lava flow. I lived near Koko Head School back in the early 70's. Keep up the great vlogs!
My wife and I did this flight in 2006 for our honeymoon. That 767-400 was the largest plane either of us were on especially me since it was the third time I ever flew. The 11 hours on the plane plus the time changes was really a mind warp. Both my wife and I got food poisoning a couple of days before our wedding. We were just talking about the possibility of going back for another Hawaii vacation. EWR is our United home hub. So I look forward to a long haul flight. BTW I flew on a 777 from EWR to SFO for my previous employer last year. That’s a pretty big airplane too. Those engines have such a unique sound.

Paul this route is the reason we are loyal to united despite living nearest PHL (that and the EWR UClub) my family pingpongs between HNL and EWR 3-4 times per year and i HOPE you are our captian next time! Thanks for the great videos especially this one. Our home for the past 12 years has been Oahu but we are on the east coast taking care or an aging family member for a lot of the year. Its great to watch this and see the beach party at dukes LOL. We all laugh when you say you woke up before the sunrise ...like you had a choice! Message me if you ever want some awesome local North Shore things to do.
I had non rev privileges on Continental that allowed me to completely spur of the moment decide to go to Honolulu after my swing shift in Vegas. I checked the availability, booked myself for the red-eye to EWR to catch the afternoon EWR - HNL DC -10 flight to spend less than 5 hours on the ground to see Waikiki and get back on the aircraft for the HNL - EWR leg and then found the LAS flight full so I had to go to IAH and then home. All that for $50. Enjoyed it so much I did it is second time, but now that I understood the process I added complexity by handing a friend a boarding pass and saying we were going to Hawaii, be ready in 10 minutes. Fun times. 20 years ago. LAS-EWR-HNL-EWR-IAH-LAS in under 48 hours is a bit much. Glad I did it though. I also enjoyed several insomnia trips just LAS-IAH-LAS in between work nights for $10. Just because I could.
An idea for an upcoming video, not sure how you could accomplish it, would be a behind the scenes. I don't believe most people understand what all goes into getting an AC off the ground, the people, paperwork, maintenance, fuel, weight and balance, flight plan, delays, MX, etc.. Not sure on what you have agreed upon with UA, and I don't mean to put you on the spot. What goes into Ground Ops, Tech Ops, Flight Ops, etc. would be an interesting add. Damn I have done that hike before! Brutal! Of course while I did it there was a local who ran it up and down three times until I got to the top. I've seen a video of Obama hiking that trail as well. Iconic views.

Flew this flight on 3/31/22. As a passenger, I watched a bunch of Netflix for the 11 hours. What do you to occupy your time in the cockpit? We did a bunch of hikes (Diamond Head, Makapu’u Light, Manoa Falls, Hanauma Bay) but couldn’t squeeze in Koko Head. Next time!

It’s extremely hard to fly in anything other than a 737 or regional (crj) jet with United. Even if you’re going to the Caribbean. One reason I don’t fly United often. I like larger planes than the regionals fly

love your channel and your energy and zest for life. Question for one of your future videos. How do you stay awake on long haul overnight flights? Even with a relief pilot seems like it could be really challenging with it being dark out / tired / jet lagged and the flight being on cruise control. Hopefully I get to be on one of your flights one day.
What’s your advice for balancing your circadian rhythm for all these time zone changes? As a military pilot, I find it challenging switching duty day between days and nights while keeping a healthy personal life balance in the process. I imagine it’s equally challenging in the airlines.
Lots of naps and coffee. When I get to Europe I either won’t sleep when I get in or I’ll only nap for an hour or two, that way it’s easier to sleep at night. And I always take a melatonin before bed in Europe so I stay asleep through the night.

Ugh this aged well. United dropped this awesome direct flight from the East Coast to HNL :( Now I need to fly HA from JFK which is a nightmare.

Flew this flight on 3/31/22. As a passenger, I watched a bunch of Netflix for the 11 hours. What do you to occupy your time in the cockpit? We did a bunch of hikes (Diamond Head, Makapu’u Light, Manoa Falls, Hanauma Bay) but couldn’t squeeze in Koko Head. Next time!

It’s extremely hard to fly in anything other than a 737 or regional (crj) jet with United. Even if you’re going to the Caribbean. One reason I don’t fly United often. I like larger planes than the regionals fly

love your channel and your energy and zest for life. Question for one of your future videos. How do you stay awake on long haul overnight flights? Even with a relief pilot seems like it could be really challenging with it being dark out / tired / jet lagged and the flight being on cruise control. Hopefully I get to be on one of your flights one day.

What’s your advice for balancing your circadian rhythm for all these time zone changes? As a military pilot, I find it challenging switching duty day between days and nights while keeping a healthy personal life balance in the process. I imagine it’s equally challenging in the airlines.
Lots of naps and coffee. When I get to Europe I either won’t sleep when I get in or I’ll only nap for an hour or two, that way it’s easier to sleep at night. And I always take a melatonin before bed in Europe so I stay asleep through the night.
Cool Vlog. I’m kinda interested in starting one myself.

I think the FAA or whoever requires that 90 day online training for the 767-400 thing, for the 737 MAXs .
Wow what I said above did not make sense. I meant that that type of online training should have required for the 737 MAX from the start.
