My wife and I flew from Paris to Dallas with American Airlines last year. At the last minute, we upgraded to Premium Economy. I think it cost an extra $100 per person, and it was worth every penny. The extra legroom made an 11-hour flight pass in no time at all.

bro $100 for an upgrade is weak I've seen premium economy at TWICE THE PRICE. And I fly a lot, and frankly premium economy is such a loosely used term nowadays that you never know whats standard with it. You can't compare a Emirates Premium Economy with a United for example. And domestically, Delta's "Premium" economy is hot trash, literally forgot I had paid for an upgrade. Made me shudder to think about what their Economy's like now.

Many airlines are still vastly understaffed. Basically still using COVID as an excuse. At this point they learnt how to do the same work with less, stuck with it for profits. A lot of the cabin crews are now working further down the plane than before, hence why you don't see them as much. Some like Delta mention it & apologise for it, others don't even mention it to try get away with it. There's no shortage of people applying either. The seat was better with more recline and the food was better. The best part of having a premium economy ticket with Air France was the return from Cairo. I went to Europe for the 1st time in June...flew from JFK to Paris on Norse. My flight left JFK at midnight. I flew on Norse. Knowing I was gonna need to get some sleep, I put in a bid for $275 to upgrade to premium economy. It was accepted, and my seat nearly completely reclined. I didn't get great sleep, but I got decent sleep...I would say I slept for about 4-5 hours of the 6-7 hour flight. Which I was ok with, because I was landing at 130 in the afternoon local time. I did not need a full night sleep. A partial one would do. Champaign was included, but I did not partake. Being my first time in Europe, I wanted to get as much rest as possible, and be as alert as possible. Looking back, it was totally worth it.

Another option: We flew roundtrip in Premium Economy on United from SFO to IAD. When booking, United offered the option to purchase 3 seats together for the two of us. I got two boarding passes: one for William Lastname, and one for ExtraseatWilliam Lastname.
We paid for 3 seats, so we each paid 1.5x the cost of a single economy seat. It was well worth it! Much cheaper than Business Class. We raised the armrests and spread out, put one carryon under the middle seat, and put our drinks on the middle tray.
I would do the same for international travel vs. spending $$$ for United’s Premium Plus. We tried that for a flight from SFO to Zurich. When the people in front of us reclined, we barely had room to get in or out of our seats. I spent more $$$ and upgraded to United Polaris on the way back, CDG to SFO (very nice!).
(Note that United’s Premium Plus is what Jeb refers to in the title as Premium Economy. United’s Premium Economy is just Economy with additional legroom.)

Just flew Delta HNL-HND, Premium Select outbound and economy plus on the return. The price differential between premium select and comfort plus on the outbound was less than $200 USD so we jumped on it. Premium Select was absolutely worth it. That being said, economy plus on the return was great as well. I agree with everything you said about Delta premium select. The one drawback was the space under the seat in front of our row was very narrow, so we had to put my son's backpack in the overhead and pull out a shopping bag to put his essentials in it. Also, while the overhead space is supposed to be reserved for your class of seats in both classes, the flight attendants did not monitor that and some people even put their bags in the Delta One overhead spaces. Service, food and amenity kit were top notch. I would do both classes again when flying to Japan. Great video, new subscriber now!!

I flew Virgin Premium economy yesterday. It was very good. You were greeted with a welcome drink. The seat was great, plenty of movies to choose from and the food was tasty. I had sausage and mash for lunch and about 2 hours from landing at JFK, afternoon tea was served. I was originally in basic economy and was offered to bid for an upgrade. I placed the minimum bid of $450 and it was accepted. I originally paid $341 for my round trip fare from JFK - LHR. There was no amenity kit (maybe because it was a day flight) and no designated snack area. If you fly Virgin, remember to steal the salt and pepper shakers.

While it wasn't lie-flat seats, having the wider seat and leg room on a flight that long allowed us to get good sleep (as good as you can get on a plane) and first class was $9,000/person to upgrade 😅 Big fan of premium economy from a cost perspective and offering

We flew premium economy family of 4 overnight IAD to ACC on United. Since it's 4 tickets, the differennce in cost was like $4k - $5k. I still think it was worth it and now don't want to fly economy on long international flights anymore. Just the seat difference. Not doubting the tape measure, but United at least advertised the seat width on our plane as bigger for premium economy, at 17.3" for economy and 19" for premium economy. I'm at a stage in life now where long uncomfortable airplane trips are actually painful, and also the added comfort helped with the kids restlessness, I think. So rather than thinking if it's worth it over economy, I'm more likely to search for the cheapest premium economy seat. Or maybe even ask if I could stretch to business. But from now on, regular economy is for domestic only.

I've flown Premium Economy on JAL, ANA, United, Lufthansa, AA, Air New Zealand, Delta, Eva and Singapore. At the end of the day, the best experience was on JAL. Pod seats that don't recline into another person, great amenities, private cabin, huge work/food space. All in all an amazing experience. After that, probably Lufthansa. I just love Lufthansa - I fly them a lot and their seats are wonderful. Beyond that? Air New Zealand is wonderful. And, I've flown Singapore a lot, most recently from SIN/NY. Their Premium economy is okay but more of a Premium Economy light. Decent experience overall. ANA and Eva were disappointing - not a great experience other than a larger seat. Now, what about the US airlines? All their PE products are good, but I'd probably be more partial to United as their overall experience is better than Delta these days, plus, if you have an decent status on United, if you buy a PE seat, most of the time it's only a slight bump in miles or $$$ to upgrade into Polaris, so they're that. I personally think if you fly trans-continental, trans-Atlantic or trans-Pacific a lot, it's worth the extra $$$ for the bump in service, especially if, like I do, you have to jump into business the next day.

Unlike the US carriers mentioned here, ANA INCLUDES lounge access. Its been a while but I seem to recall it was about 60% more. I agree with you that JAL is also a great airline. I used to fly their non-stop from San Diego to Narita. On one booking I ended up on an American Air flight that code-shared with JAL. Comparing that plane, flight crew, service etc. with an actual JAL flight on the same model plane was like comparing a Yugo to a Mercedes.

Yep I've flown premium economy twice once from Hong Kong to Auckland on Air New Zealand a lot more space. On their 787 very small and cozy cabin. Just 21 seats in a 2-3-2 layout I managed to get moved there after my preferred economy seat I paid for wasn't available nice food offerings too. My other premium economy flight was also Air NZ from Brisbane to Auckland. I've got reviews of both flights on my channel

We used to fly economy. Then tried PE on BA and never looked back. There was one time heading to London from Tampa PE was full. I got up and went back to economy and it was empty. Everyone had their own rows and were all laying accross the the seat just snoring away.
So checked with BA and found I can purchase 2 seats and I can lay down and sleep and its cheaper than booking PE. Plus get 2 meals.

Delta Premium Select tends to vary pretty significantly depending on the region in my experience. We flew to and from Japan upgraded into Premium Select and even our two flights resulted in VERY different levels of service. One flight we were curtained off from the toilet at the front of the cabin and had to walk to the middle of the plane, but the other didn't. One flight had a different meal from economy, but the other was the exact same meal as economy. It's a VERY pricey upgrade compared to other categories like Comfort+ so it's just something to keep in mind! I still really enjoy flying Delta comparatively to other airlines, but I also really like a good value.

Love this kind of comparison. For reference, I professionally book travel for my company's C-suite (CEO/CFO/CSO). Our CEO and CSO are religious AA flyers, I personally am a Star Alliance guy, so I almost always fly United, Lufthansa, Swiss, or Turkish. Domestically, the only sensible option is JetBlue imo, free Wi-Fi, and a good loyalty program, can't ask for more when a lounge isn't needed. That said, this was the first year that on my own international flights that I didn't fly on a Star Alliance carrier from my home base, Boston. This year I flew on KLM to Amsterdam in March, Delta on their A330-900 coming back (the highlight of this year by far) and BA to Berlin (BOS-LHR-BER) and here are my findings:
BA is trash - unless it's $400 less than other carriers (as it was for me since that was my only non-solo trip of the year with my sister who is a fellow at Baylor and was on call on the weekends before and after our trip to Berlin and thus had to be available in Houston, TX for the entire weekend).
United/Lufthansa/Swiss: When you have status, it's not half bad. I went to Spain in 2023 and there was some weird glitch that made online check-in unavailable to me, and I had to check-in at the airport to get my boarding passes (1-stopper in MUC). Because of those issues, they gave me lounge access when I was flying economy to Madrid from Boston, and a free upgrade to business class on my return flight from Madrid. To be clear, I don't think I would have gotten this result if I hadn't flown on Lufthansa or Swiss on every international trip I took since being a junior in college in 2018 (Roughly 3 round trips a year from 2018 to 2020). In 2022 I flew on United to London from Boston, bid for an upgrade to premium economy that was accepted both times for less than $200 more than the original ticket price in economy. I have a lot of food allergies that are very uncommon, so I never expect to eat on a flight if I don't bring my own food. And even when I do bring my own food, I recognize I'm on a plane, no one can go anywhere, I suck at smelling but still know things have smells, so I try to have really neutral things as snacks throughout the flight. All of that is to say that food never matters to me... except for on UA24 when they operated a 767-300 ER from BOS-LHR, to date after more than 78 flights in 2 years, was just the second time out of those 78 flights that I have been able to eat a meal on board a plane, it was breakfast on landing to LHR and it was scrumptious. Whenever I fly United internationally again, I'll book into Premium/Business class just in case I can have that meal again.
KLM: KLM was overpriced, and okay at best. Literally nothing to write home nor online about. other than if you aren't borderline bulimic, you might find the seats rather narrow. I couldn't imagine flying them any longer than 7 hours or so.
Delta: If I couldn't fly business class, premium economy or even economy on Delta could be the best bang for your buck available for very and ultra long-haul flights. There's no comparison from any other New World carrier imo.

when United was first rolling out Premium Plus, for close to a year you were able to book those seats on premium transcontinental routes as economy plus-which are free at booking for Gold and higher. I was pleasantly surprised the first time this happened on accident and was able to fly a bunch of premium plus back then (in 2019) for no additional cost. good times

For an international flight, I’ve flown premium economy on Air France 2x, on level 1x. Flown business class 1x on air Europa. Air France food was disappointing. Level was good, but seat selection was weird. They sent an email saying they chartered our flight out. Then our seats changed and my friend and I were split up on different rows. Then changed back to level but our seats didn’t go back to original ones we chose. Air Europa was my first business class experience and was awesome!! So for me, anything overseas will be premium economy or above.

I used to fly Delta but they got to expensive and I was getting better treatment with AA frequent flyer program. I am domestic flier only though. Suggestion: Put a chart/table at the end show the prices between all three airlines and the two classes of service. Makes it easier to pause and contemplate during your summary section at the end. Plus I a visual guy. Otherwise I love your channel and you two as a team. Cheers!

My move when booking flights for myself and friends with points on Delta has always been the opposite of what you mentioned at the end - Book economy and thug it out on the flight out there when we're still excited to get going, then book Premium Select and cash in my global upgrades for Delta One on the way back when weary from two weeks of wandering around wherever we were adventuring! Having the business class leg on the way back means that I can basically just go to work the next day without needed as much 'recovery' time back at home - which really just means to me that I'm getting the most out of my PTO haha

I don't remember the fares, but not being cramped in Econony for 10 to 20 hours was worth the price. Korean Air had flat seats, but BA and Qantas just had the larger seats. The food and service on all were phenomenal.

Great video. I really enjoy your reviews. I would love for you to expand your review measurements to include the clearance of seat trays from the back of the seat. As a larger person, I find a lot of variance in this measurement in Business Class depending on aircraft (at least in Canadian domestic travel with Air Canada). Ie - the A319 seat stow trays in business are more generous than the newer A220 (which some folks cannot deploy comfortably). Just a suggestion for a Jeb+ score. Keep up the good work.

And I haven't missed you a single time I needed a flight since in 2015, when you sold me a first class ticket from Seattle to Key West, with no notice about luggage restrictions, then your red-headed-fancy-pants-elf-from-hell check in agent informed me AT THE AIRPORT that only ONE bag was allowed, per passenger, to Key West, and proceeded to verbally, financially, and legally abuse and threaten me for the next 30 minutes. I will repeat this story any and everywhere for the rest of time! DON'T FLY DELTA UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE LIED TO, RIPPED OFF, THREATENED, AND ABUSED!!!
