Your stunning shot of the horizon at 12:35 was a part of United's battleship gray livery. Also, it's amazing to think that you're in the same country traveling for almost 9 hours. Thanks for sharing.

Defo should have a second meal on such a long flight. Having tried all three main carriers, Delta for me is the best, most reliable, great product and great staff!!
Taking off from the Reef Runway is a great thing, especially seated on the port side of the plane. It’s like the top of Diamond Head is waving you goodbye! Hope you enjoyed your trip and enjoy your trip to Europe! Also the fact that you don’t like Dole Whip is sad… once you get it from the Dole Plantation with fresh pineapple on it, let me know when you changed your mind.
Tell Suzanne to keep her eyes out for Hawaiian Bros., a newer fast-casual restaurant serving traditional Hawaiian plate lunches. They sell pineapple and strawberry Dole Whips, although I think they may have had some issues with Disney in being able to use the name "Dole Whip" for them. But regardless, it's nice to be able to get one without flying to Orlando, Anaheim, or Honolulu.
@@dr.donchristie7093 Hi, just randomly making comments. I sort of knew about it, but my first visit to Honolulu included making a visit to the crater, and I sort of had the same realization... except I sort of did know of course that the Hawaiian islands were all formed by volcanos. On the main island (Hawaii itself) it's really incredible how the landscape changes vis-a-vi the lava flows. Those are not at all active, but you can see how the island changes when you drive around the perimeter, as much as you are able. My favorite to visit was Kauai, though I only went there 3 times. They have the 'Grand Canyon' of the Pacific. Look that up, if you don't know it. It was beautiful. Go there if you have not done so, choose any island. You will enjoy it. I was so lucky. I'm really feeling that now at 65. Take care.
Most of those amenities, with the exception of the legroom and larger seats, used to be the standard in economy. First class had menus, an on-call bar, and for that long of a flight two to three meals. It is still that way on international flights such as Korean air and Lufthansa. American carriers really seem to be cutting costs and offering lower quality of service.
When you compare them during covid times to those other carriers who fly on the same time length it’s really a differential. The only lounge I’ve seen come back fully is the star alliance lounge at LAX but it’s for that big carriers who fly into LAX and I see why the service hasn’t been paired back as those airlines aren’t cutting as much as the US carriers. The onboard and lounge products are just not up to par with those airlines. Covid has made it worst and they blame the virus for the further cuts, while other airlines are scaling back up. Hopefully with European passengers coming back the JFK, Chicago lounges and dinning services will get back to pre-covid levels.
American air carriers are so cheap and stingy. You technically have to fly this long just to get a stinking meal. No wonder people are bringing pizza boxes on planes. It's very disparaging to fly from LA to say NY and you cannot get dinner. What joke!!!!
Thx for uploading. Brought back memories to my first flight 2005 to Honolulu, Frankfurt to Newark and than on to Honolulu all by then brand new continental B767-400 where I could enjoy the middle single seat in Business class. Due to the schedule I had a 21 hour stopover. The plane and the seats look the same than on your flight. On my flight I had access to the lounge also on the domestic part, since I traveled internationally. As far as I can recall they served a second lunch before landing in HNL. But again that was Continental and a long time ago.
absolutely, I hated it also when it came out because I couldnt stand the Continental globe that they copied, although I will say United's U shaped tulip livery with grey and blue along the fuselage was the best, the new one is pretty decent
I can’t wait to get back to Oahu. We went in 2018 and stayed at Disney’s resort, Aulani for our 10 year anniversary. Hoping to get back for our 15 year in 2023. Thanks for the island vibes! I’ve never come home from a vacation feeling so rejuvenated!
Hello Jeb! Firstly, I love your posts. They are in depth and capture every nuance of the travel experience in a very straightforward manner. I am from the luxury hotel industry. Of course United should serve a second meal service on a 9 hour flight! We were frequently on United and American to Hawaii, First Class, however we tried Hawaiian First Class and haven’t looked back😎! Please keep up the great sharing! I have logged hundreds of thousands of miles, mostly on long hauls, your insight is most enjoyable. Happy travels!
A 9 hour flight and no 2nd service!! The US Domestic flights are just simply disappointing. Yes, they should at least serve fresh fruits with joghurt and cereals or a sandwich.
Thanks for the video, brought back memories, went to Hawaii 20 yrs ago for Honeymoon, flew from Detroit to San Francisco,Oahu to Kaui spend a week there and a week in Maui, dont get me wrong, it was great but I was ready to come home
In my honest opinion it's a great thing for SWA to provide interisland travels, it gives travelers another option to fly interisland cheaper and breaks Hawaiian Airlines pricing monopoly.
Jeb, you are the sole reason I was so stoked about my flight getting moved from RDU to PTI during my days at Fort Bragg. Love all your content. Keep it up!
Great video, Jeb! I love the footage of Honolulu out the window. I flew HNL-SEA on Alaska Airlines in 2023 and scored some great photos of Honolulu out the window.
I spent 12 hours in the United lounge at the Honolulu airport in March 2020. We had done a redeye from Sydney to Honolulu, and we were scheduled for another redeye the next night to Denver. Your food offerings were much better than we had. Most of the shops and services at the airport had shut down, and a day later they were seriously shutting down the entire airport. I gladly paid the fee for a more private experience while we waited, enjoyed some scotch, and kind of weak meals - but we were just happy to have a safe space before we flew home and quarantined ourselves for 2 full weeks. The people were great, and we were all heading into the great unknown of Covid protocols. So far, we are surviving!
Hi there. Just found your channel. Would love to travel myself, but alas, cannot go anywhere. I've never been out of Australia. I really enjoy the fact that you talk in your videos. Others that I have watched do not. They've lost me, now that I've found you.....
Golly I was on one of those 764s back in 2017 from IAD to Zurich and return in Polaris. Incredible that this bird has not been updated to the new Polaris layout by now. No second meal or snack in J class is beyond the pale bad.
I really enjoyed your video. I live in Tahiti and United flies a 787 Dreamliner 3 to 5 times a week to San Francisco ! BTW i will be onboard tomorrow nite ! I agree with you about the lounge not included and the breakfast! Come on United yo can do it ! Nine hours flight and first class… you definitely desserve a complimentary lounge access and at least a pastry for breakfast !
Hopefully, in May of next year, I’ll be taking an even longer flight from Honolulu with my wife…to Tokyo! Ten hours on Hawaiian Airlines Business Class! By far the longest flight I will have taken in my entire 52 year life! Your vacation sounds like it was Heavenly!
Back in my youthful late 20's and 30's (late 1980's), I traveled extensively for both biz and pleasure out of Boston. Had memberships in Continental, Eastern, Northwest Orient, United, and a a handful of other lounges. The big Conti Lounge in Newark was like a second home for several years. My first flight was out of John Wayne Airport in SoCal, on a Western Air MD80 (if I recall). That took me to DFW for second flight on a Pan AM 707 back home to BOS. Haven't flown since 2004, but I sure do enjoy your reviews.
Man I really miss flying 😢. My last flight was January 4, 2020, and it was from AMS - IAD. I never flew during the pandemic, and although I’m fully vaccinated, this delta variant doesn’t seem to make it look any better. Jeb, love your videos. Thanks for continuing to make them during the pandemic. Please, You and Suzanne stay safe! 🤞
I flew for the first time from SFO to JFK 4 weeks ago, after averaging about 100k air miles a year for a couple of decades. With the following adjustments air travel is actually very safe. I brought Clorox wipes for screen, armrests, power and IFE ports, seat belt and tray table. I put the overhead air vent, also wiped down with a Clorox wipe, directly pointed at my head, creating positive pressure away from me. The flight was pleasant, on JetBlue’s Mint service, and uneventful.
@@JeffJacquesmd I do all that all if I were flying during a deadly pandemic or not. The airport is the most dangerous part out of the whole experience. The actual plane ride is fine. But I’m still not quite ready to get back into the air, as much as I’d like to.
Very good. Thanks. I miss the earlier years of jet travel. The people in "cattle class" ate as well as first class does today. I even flew on an American Airlines DC3 out of Washington National Airport (Reagan) once. Yes, I'm old. I'll be 70 early next year. My father worked for American and British Airways (BOAC), so I've been flying all my life. Once again. Excellent video and commentary.
Hi Jeb! I am one of your subscribers and I just sit back and watch all of your videos and they are so relaxing and I feel like that I’m just on a trip with you and Susanne just watching you and I’ve been watching you for 3 years
I think Jeb has flown domestic business class (same as your first, but better) domestic in Oz. I was surprised to see the foil sauce with the meal, there's a half star deduction! Should you get breakfast as it is a nine hour flight? Hell yeah! Anyway, nice to see you flying again.
This is the only video that I’ve seen involving aviation and Hawaii. Everything else on your channel is some other part of the world. It was very nice to see pictures of home. Thank you. Local people would have looked out the other side of the building at the green Koolau mountains. That’s a pretty view. There should be an option for first class. I limit it because the crew won’t have enough time to clear up after serving a meal. Customers should be reminded by their travel agents to bring something to eat.
On the second meal: YES.Unless they have an office-like pantry with a microwave where I can reheat my own meal! Eight hours is equivalent to two meals and one snack.
Took a United 767 from Honolulu to Newark the day after Xmas 2018 , 2-1-2 seating in First , got dinner , breakfast and a great nights rest in the lay flat seat :)
In a literal sense (to me at least), it makes perfect sense for southwest to fly within Hawaii. It’s geographically the most southwest state there is lol
Thanks I am looking to fly nonstop from my home in DC out of Dulles to Hawaii....and yes think they could give at least a danish with coffee....something light
I flew HNL-EWR in first, it drove me crazy that there was no pre-departure beverage service or second meal. I asked the FA for a bottle of water before departure and was scolded. Felt like I was bothering the FAs by asking for water and coffee before landing. United charges quite a premium for this service but treats it as a standard domestic flight.
pre-departure is useless when most pax don’t even finish their drinks and have to finish it before the door is closed. why rush a drink when you can fully enjoy your drink in like 20 minutes
Nice video.. i was a UA flight attendant back in the early 2000's. this is definitely an upgrade from the old 767-200's. your views on the left side taking off from the Reef Runway are good, but as a crewmember who had to sit on the flight deck on certain aircraft types, I always said the best views are sitting on the runway staring right at Waikiki on departure.
9:41 never seen that before! The 767-300 is painted in the new livery but they left the winglets untouched. You can still see the gold line at the bottom 😂
They were originally in the new colors when the plane was painted back in 2019, but looks like they were replaced earlier this year. Something must have happened.
Two of my places I used to live…Honolulu (HNL) and Loudoun County (IAD). Enjoy your videos! Love aviation! Flew a lot in my last 30 years. Sometimes ur video brings me right back to the places ur traveling to and from…such as the Last Frontier! And yea, UA needs to add a second service. At least a decent cup of coffee.
One full service meal with a continental-style breakfast would've been nice, such as a cream cheese bagel or something. Overall, looks like a great flight. It's too bad general leisure travel to Asia is off limits this year due to covid, but at least Europe is now open!! ! 🔓👍
the easterly climb out of HNL is always awesome. The pilot mustve known you were onboard so they turned on channel 9! Never flew United so I've never heard of that.. I wish all major airlines did that
Looks like an amazing trip especially with United! Cheers from here in Detroit {DTW} looked like fun! Shocked that {HNL-IAD} isn’t longer than the {HNL-BOS} route for the longest US domestic route!! Is the Honolulu to Washington Dulles route close to as long as the Honolulu to Boston route? Also I’ve mentioned it before Boeing never made a standard 767-400 only the 767-400ER model for future reference Jeb! 😎🥂👍🇺🇸
IAD-HNL is 4,806 mi, and BOS-HNL is 5095mi. But, factor aircraft, jet stream, and air traffic, etc, and neither is a easy "given". I remember the United Flight 1 many times from BOS-HNL some 35 years ago or more (747). I think I even took a Northwest Orient (OK, I dating myself) to HNL once.
I’m going on a United 767-400 with my family from Newark to Vancouver next year, I’m getting a Christmas present with 5 round trip first class tickets! It’s gonna be my first time on United! And a wide body! I cannot wait for those seats!!
I for one cannot understand why UA hasn’t retrofitted their 764s with the Polaris Suites. If I ever flew east coast to Hawaii, I’d prefer the suite, but since UA seems to insist on only using 764s on these flights, I’d probably be flying a connection via ORD or SFO/LAX, since they use aircraft with the suites on those routes.
Love the videos, your music choice and voice brings a real sense of calm and teacher like aspect to them! Keep up with the vlogs. Fan from Brighton, England!
--The last time I flew United Business-Class (SFO Washington National), I was stunned that I had to buy a "day pass" for the lounge. I'm even more stunned to learn that 1st Class has to pay, as well. --One meal in nine hours is ridiculous. And, I'm a little vague on what you said about your gin-and-tonic on the dinner tray. Did you say the have no separate drink service? For me, nine hours on a plane would require multiple glasses of wine. --Years ago, on a flight from Dulles to SFO, my seat mate was a Congressional Representative from Hawaii, who was changing planes in San Francisco. It had never occurred to me that Representatives from Hawaii AND Alaska, and their home-based staff members, have to face such incredible "commutes!" I'll bet they don't go home-for--the-weekend, as often as their "lower 48" colleagues do. --Love your reports.
If "breakfast" would be anything like Delta served on my flights from HNL to ATL, or ATL to MAD in the past few years you're better off with coffee and a Bischoff cookie. They were terrible. I think one was supposed to be an egg wrap or something. It was a real shame because the dinners were excellent. That being said, Delta's first class cabin layout is far superior with all seats having direct aisle access.
I'm glad more domestic US airlines are treating the coast to coast, and Hawaii flights as an international flight in regards to service and amenities. I remember seeing past reviews, not here, but in general and it felt like they were trying to take a typical 2-3 hour domestic flight and glorify it a bit for a 5-9 hour flight. It should be similar to flying to Europe from the US services wise in my view when it comes to flying to and from Hawaii. Sadly more still needs to be done like lounge access.
Channel 9 was my favorite thing about United! I used to fly mainland to HNL regularly. Listening to channel 9 chatter until Center cut us loose, then dozing, only to be interrupted by occasional talk between planes on the same route. My favorite part was finally hearing "Honolulu Center, United 123 with you at 36 Thousand with Tango". I always chose a window seat on the starboard side for the epic views of Mauna Kea peaking above the clouds. By the time you hit the Big Island, you're probably at 20,000 ft and seeing that is incredible.
@@bodyloverz30 My main point is that if you're gonna criticize United for omitting free longe from a domestic first ticket, then you may as well criticize AA and DL for the same thing
My wife and I just got back from Oahu and yes, it is so hard to leave the islands. This was our honeymoon that had been postponed for over 5 years due to 3 wildfires and then Covid. I managed to keep it under wraps that I had upgraded us to first class from SFO-HNL and back and the look on her face when I told her to stop walking at row 5 on the United 777-300ER was priceless. God, I love the Polaris cabin. Our return flight was a red eye and there was nothing better than having some Chicken Katsu dinner and then reclining the seat into a bed and getting some good sleep. I love United and flew them a lot for work and the cabin crew do such a good job. I woke up in the middle of the flight and noticed that the flight attendant had left me a Diet Coke and a cup of ice in case I wanted it. Touches like this make paying for a premium cabin worth it.
Always check eBay for passes. I bought 2 UA club passes for $30. They were cheap because they were expiring in 6 weeks. I’m in the UA club at IAH as I type this.
I recently used one of my two passes at ORD. Our flight to Anchorage was canceled due to weather. We were rebooked for the next day flight to Fairbanks (which continued on to ANC). I think it’s a pretty good value for United Club access, especially if you’re an infrequent flyer. The United Club isn’t mind blowing, however it’s a nice spot to disappear away from the noise & chaos of a busy hub/terminal.
I will walk before I buy a ticket on United. I personally cancelled United after that 2017 incident where they forcibly removed a passenger who we later found out was a doctor. That was one of the most reprehensible things I have ever seen. - - Maybe I have been looking @ too many first class cabin videos on Emirates and Etihad. This first class cabin on United was some weak sauce. I was looking for a private seat with a sliding door and pajamas. This looked like an upscale economy class. I had no idea that you could fly nonstop from Hawaii to DC. That was brand new information and quite informative considering I live in DC. Well done video!

That looks like a really nice Patek on your wrist!! Congrats!!
Glad to hear United still have Channel 9 - I first listened in back in the 1990s on a flight from Denver to Dulles on a 757.
Life always gives you choices: a Dairy Queen whip or a real Dole Whip. I'm going with Dole, thank you!
This was the first time I realized that the profile we know as "Diamond Head" is the most prominent portion of a volcanic crater. Great shots!
Take care.
Yes. A 9 hour flight a breakfast would be great! Even just breakfast bars would be nice!
Remember when you could have a checked bag for free?
American air carriers are so cheap and stingy. You technically have to fly this long just to get a stinking meal. No wonder people are bringing pizza boxes on planes. It's very disparaging to fly from LA to say NY and you cannot get dinner. What joke!!!!
@@Wixom2200 I wonder if Delta is any better.

This is the first new long-haul Jeb vid I've seen. A most welcome return!
Thanks!
Completely agree with your view on the new United livery. It's very clean, very modern and look fantastic on the planes!
absolutely, I hated it also when it came out because I couldnt stand the Continental globe that they copied, although I will say United's U shaped tulip livery with grey and blue along the fuselage was the best, the new one is pretty decent
YOU ARE SO RIGHT: "I can't be the only one who'd be happy just watching this all day"--TRUE!!!!!!!!
This is quickly becoming my favorite aircraft/train travel channel. Love it.
This series was probably my favorite from you guys. What a unique routing.....SN really liked the music in this one! Fantastic!
A 9 hour flight and no 2nd service!! The US Domestic flights are just simply disappointing.
Yes, they should at least serve fresh fruits with joghurt and cereals or a sandwich.
What is joghurt?
yogurt??
I flew that flight in economy. Its torture.
Especially since O’Hana is no longer servicing the smaller islands.
What about Mokulele? Are they still around?
@@BarnaliD they are i think
Hawaiian is cheaper than southwest lol
@@zachfetter5710 Hawaiian had no choice to compete with Southwest
I made that flight from Newark to Honolulu about 3 months ago but it was a 767-300 ♥ the best flight of my life!
Jeb, you are the sole reason I was so stoked about my flight getting moved from RDU to PTI during my days at Fort Bragg. Love all your content. Keep it up!
Flew to hawwai when I was 6. Absolutley LOVE the 767. Keep up the great work
Great video Jeb!
I hear JetBlue has started their London Heathrow route! I would like to watch a video of you covering it😁
Great video, Jeb! I love the footage of Honolulu out the window. I flew HNL-SEA on Alaska Airlines in 2023 and scored some great photos of Honolulu out the window.
The 767-400 looks so beautiful
You're from my home town. I love departing from PTI to connect to a bigger hub. Showing up 1 hour prior to departure has never let me down.
Definitely United MUST serve second meal with these long haul flights!!!
I've never been aboard a 400 series, but the 767 has always been my favorite airliner.
Very true!

@@GreenerGrass your welcome!
I'm stunned that they don't serve a second meal even if it's simple.
Me too. Surely they could at least offer cereal?
Normal for a domestic US airline.
I'm guessing the catering service was understaffed. But really, for a first class ticket, you can't just get a damn roll thrown at you. NOPE.
I think Jeb has flown domestic business class (same as your first, but better) domestic in Oz. I was surprised to see the foil sauce with the meal, there's a half star deduction! Should you get breakfast as it is a nine hour flight? Hell yeah! Anyway, nice to see you flying again.
This guys voice is just ✨wholesome✨
He'd be a good choice to read children's books 📚
Ha!! Great point!
You can still see the gold line at the bottom 😂
lol they were lazy half arse it
They were originally in the new colors when the plane was painted back in 2019, but looks like they were replaced earlier this year.

Your face when you tried the dole whip was priceless!😂
Haven't seen one of your videos in a while due to school, but this definitely looks like a great one to get back into your content!
9 hours flight but only one meal? That's not good..
Yep and that internet was also weak sauce lol. Come on UA get newer planes ffs and replace those dated seats
I used to be Emirates Cabin Crew and we would do 2 services in economy for a 5 hour flight haha

If I ever flew east coast to Hawaii, I’d prefer the suite, but since UA seems to insist on only using 764s on these flights, I’d probably be flying a connection via ORD or SFO/LAX, since they use aircraft with the suites on those routes.
and add high speed internet too :)
They have plans to retrofit each 767 over the next year. Covid delayed their schedule.
lol idk my home airport of dublin is served by it on the newark flight ua 22/23 i recently flew on it and the aircraft was so outdated
Too many mile redemption going on in Hawaii flights. It's a loss for UAL
I like the new Polaris but always thought the old seats were more comfortable for sleeping
Love the videos, your music choice and voice brings a real sense of calm and teacher like aspect to them! Keep up with the vlogs. Fan from Brighton, England!
"save their bread roll for something to eat just before landing." Christ I had forgotten how depressing flying in the USA was.
Really enjoying your channel, and yes breakfast should be served, makes me realize how spoiled I was on my air NZ flight from LA to Auckland
This is America so get used to paying for lounges on domestic flights. Basically all airlines do it.
It is my dream to fly the island hopper mentioned. Just can’t wait for the boarders to be open again.
Thanks Jeb for posting this video as I’ll be be on the HNL to EWR flight next week.
If AA and DL still require you to buy a day pass from Hawaii flights, then United requiring a day pass shouldn't be a dealbreaker.
Both Hawaiian & Alaska include it in the pricing!
@@bodyloverz30 My main point is that if you're gonna criticize United for omitting free longe from a domestic first ticket, then you may as well criticize AA and DL for the same thing
@@Blank00 I agree, good point.
wow, never heard of Channel 9 on United. Thank you both, will check it out the next time I fly the airline.
First Class passengers should get lounge access on this flight.
Thank you Jeb, I love your passion for flying and your videos are always so informative and helpful for us frequent flyers!
Meanwhile on the same route in economy, we eat cookies and soda. We also don’t get any blankets so we are freezing 😂
Jeb, the United Explorer card gives you two lounge passes a year for $95
Always check eBay for passes.
