@@jakobmatauschek7722 Time Away From Base. IOW, Time on the road. The hours that your car is in the crew lot. A high TAFB number means your wife and kids have no idea who you are. Your hobbies are on hold. You miss birthdays, anniversaries, weekend BBQs with your friends, etc. You seldom sleep in your own bed. You're AWOL. For most pilots, the goal is to minimize TAFB while maximizing your W2. Not to jam in as many trips through customs (and sleep-wrecking time zone changes) as possible.
Talk about "Complexities"!! Wow! It's GREAT that you're telling us the real "Nuts & Bolts" of being a commercial pilot. It's clearly somewhat of a strain on personal and social activities. ✈

He moved to San Francisco according to his Instragram 4 months ago. I don't think he would do that if he wasn't a pilot anymore. His medical looks intact according to the FAA. So I guess he's alright.

Part 117 rules define minimum rest and technically 10 hours of rest with 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep… But that would never really happen on a Europe trip. Most of our layovers are 24+ hours
The section where you spoke about the techniques to adjust to the time zone was interesting. I've never seen that addressed before. I might try to match the time in my time zone, but sleeping when tired would probably win out. Loved watching the recreational flights over the Alps. Thanks for sharing that.👍 Interesting video.

How can you go wrong going to Zurich. Switzerland is a very beautiful country my wife is from there. We used to fly into Zurich when we would go visit my mother-in-law. The chocolate is incredible if you get a chance to go to say Migros or Coop. Careful though some contains alcohol. Thanks for sharing.
You are truly loving the dream man, soak in every moment of it. I am currently a Delta airlines AMT, I truly love what I do but my ultimate dream was to be a commercial airline pilot, suffered multiple medical setbacks during my PPL phase and home life I decided to let it go. Keep climbing, cheer’s!

It would until you did it for a few years straight. Then, not so much. Once you get over the "glam", its all about the Benjamins and TAFB.
