I just wanted to share a few tips here in case I missed anyone that is wanting to try this craft project... since posting the video I've made a few more jars and have learned a few things... the first one was to lower the temperature in the oven. I've tried several temperatures, 250^F, 225 ^F , and 200^F.... Here in Texas it's been pretty humid. Humid days I let the jars air dry upside down about 45 minutes to an hour longer (so about 2 hours) before baking......Then I use the lowest temp in the oven 200^F... it's helped me get a lot less bubbles. Recycled Jars bubbled the most at the higher temperatures. Dropping the temp to 200 has made a huge difference. Just leave the jars in and check on them every 30 minutes, take them out when they are transparent. I hope that helps y'all get a better end result. Thanks again or watching!
Hi Rebecca your jars came out really pretty I love all the colors you use thank you for sharing how you did your jars I always enjoy watching you videos come up with the best ideas🤟🤟🤟🤩😍🥰👏👏👏👏
Rebecca, thank you not only for this tutorial but for always bringing us different and fun projects. I loved the way your jars turned out. You gave me confidence to try it myself. Thanks and hugs.
Very nice Rebecca! Isn't it great when you experiment with something new and it actually works! 😋 They all turned out very good! 💗 Love the colors. 💕 Thanks for sharing! 🥰
it really is... I think I'm going to try to make one that is multi-color using the paint brush technique. I think it will be a good way to control where the color goes and maybe just bake it so the first section hardens, then move up blending to the next color... If it looks like I hope it does maybe I can use it to make a pretty ornament or lantern for a Christmas video... I'm so glad you liked them, I had fun experimenting lol.
I had to lol remembering a few years ago, after I had made a rainbow set of mason jars using a similar technique...my very thorough cleaning gal hand washed them and was distraught when the color started to drip out. She was SO upset! I laughed and told her it was just glue and food coloring. Maybe I should have baked them! Great video!
oh my lol. I can imagine her washing the jars and thinking she ruined them lol. I'm late to the game I had no idea you could bake Mod Podge. I found some bottles at the store that were pre mixed orange that said you could bake it, so I thought I could just color my own. I've since looked up videos and am amazed how smooth some of them come out. I keep getting bubbles but I think it's just the humidity and my lack of patience to let them drip as long as they need to BEFORE I throw them in the oven lol.
Thank you. I'm still getting some bubbles in my finished jars, but I'm learning that it must be the humidity because on days it's not so humid here I get a much smoother finish after about an hour of air dry & letting the excess drip out. Not sure if that tip will help, but thought it was worth mentioning :) I hope your jars turn out really pretty!
They turned out beautiful I might have to try this method with jars and candle holders. Thanks for sharing with us !!!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend !!!!! ❤️❤️
Hi Brenda, I've made a few more jars and am sharing a tip with anyone who said they are thinking of trying the jars.... if its humid, increase the amount of time you let them sit and drip/air dry. I found I get a lot less bubbles in the end result. I hope that helps you get a nice finish on the jars if you try them :)
They are fun to make. My neighbor has this wire tree thing that people usually put fun colored wine bottles on and when the sun hits it, it shines really pretty, but instead she uses recycled jars and mod podge to make them all special colors and they are so pretty.
I like the bubbles too 🤷🏼♀️ They add an extra texture to the glass. Thanks for this. I’ve been bored lately with my crafting and looking for something different. I may have to try this. 💛 They turned out beautiful!
I am going to try to come up with an amber color for fall and I think the bubbles in the glass with that color would make a really pretty vintage look :) glad I'm not the only one who liked the bubbles lol. I have been trying to get some that have a smoother look. here's what I've learned.... I lowered the temp in the oven to 200 and leave them in until they are transparent all the way around, no set time as humidity seems to be part of it. It's helped give a smoother look. I think they were getting too hot too fast and causing the bubbles to form. They were bubble free when they went in, but had bubbles when they came out using the higher temperatures. Also If it's a high humidity day I let them air dry and drip the excess longer, that also has helped. (hope that helps you too) happy crafting :)
@@rebeccastuthecrew Thanks so much for the reply and the extra tips! I’d love to see more of what you’re accomplishing with this technique. It’s fascinating to me. 💛
Thank you so much for this DIY video! I love how the jars turned out, and you gave me some fantastic ideas on how to decorate them also! I will be trying this soon!!💙💜💚
I'm so glad! I'm learning on humid days let them air dry longer. I seem to get less bubbles. I also lowered the temp in the oven to 200 and just let them bake longer , I think it was getting too hot too fast and causing it to bubble up. I hope those tips help you get a better end result than I did my first try :)
I made more jars and have been sharing what I've learned.. I think my oven was too hot at the temp I was using, and was causing the bubbles to form. I dropped the temp to 200^F and it seems to have helped get a smoother finish. I hope that helps you too!
So really pretty. Some of them are just STUNNING, I love the depth of color you got too. I tried this several years ago, but used school glue instead of mod podge. They barely left a tint on the glass. I'll have to try again with mod podge next time.
They are! I'm still learning that I need to be more patient and let the excess drip out as much as possible before baking them... but I'm always so excited to see the end result with the colors I've tried that it makes it hard to wait lol.
I love Upcycling jars painted add some tih fabric and bows and dry Silk flowers and dried flowers adding various types of ribbons recently made several Grungy patriotic jars with different embellishments i love Grungy ❤️
I see a use in almost anything, especially for crafting lol. I bet your jars turned out really nice. From the sound of it you put a lot of work into them. Crafting is my calm relaxing place.
I found lowering the temperature in the oven has helped me get less bubbles. Just wanted to share this tip with you. Hope that helps your project turn out nice :) have fun!!
Hi thank you for very informative and beautiful video i had one question please that can these jars be used to store food such as spices please reply bck thank you
I was so worried they wouldn't work, but was surprised they turned out much better than I expected lol. Dollar Tree just started to carry ceramic paint that you set in the oven with heat. I bought some to try and will make a video to see how it works in the next few weeks. :) I hope it works it says it dries with no streaks, which is usually the issue with paint and glass. :)
I think that if you spay the jars with some hairspray,,that it will help set the decorations & glitter,,I use aqua-net 4 my projects,,but haven't tried this yet,,just an idea ❤
LOL about the glitter. You get the Patience of a Saint award for the year 🤣🤣 I bet your grandkids have the best memories making crafts with you. I've made more jars and have found if I lower the temperature in the oven to 200 and just leave them in longer ( until they are transparent all the way around) I get less bubbles. I hope that helps. Have fun with the grand kids and don't work too hard cleaning up all that glitter🥰

I’ve watched a lot of videos on how to do this, and yours were by far the prettiest decorated! They are just absolutely gorgeous!

Hi!. Do you think I can get the same results using soda plastic bottles without putting them in the oven?
I love the beautiful colors you made for your jars. I save all kinds of glass jars so I, wanting to try this. Thanks for sharing. TNJANRN
Beautiful!! Thanks so much! 😀💕
Thank you!
Hi Rebecca. Great your tip to us. Instead of baking the glass after coloring with Mod & Colour, can we use heater or kind of hair dryer.
I love them
