I think without it being blue people won’t know the electric version exists. It attracts attention and eventually they can go away from that once people recognize them as having electric options.
They have always used blue for their Eco modes. My 2012 1 series dash goes all blue when you put it in the (terrible) eco+ mode, so suppose it's consistent.
Effort has been placed into the cars design. Although not highlighted here, youll get very good ecconomy long term from the vehicle, under 20 kwh/100km. If you check out the specs, youll find that it weighs between 200-400 kg less than the EQC and etron. Easier said than done. The frunk may come later.
after having checked several reviews of the IX3, I have to say that this car is one of the most efficient EV' s on the market. I am very surprised you scored such a bad result. I believe that this car can really score the WLTP range of 460 km at a speed of 130 km/h on the highway. Even smaller cars use 4 to 5 kw/h more at this speed. Please consider also that the outside temperature has a major impact on the consumption. Otherwise the sound and the blue color do not need to be ordered, you can order the car without them.
I like those blue trim bits, it makes a clear difference from the normal x3 And because I don't like electric cars so much I'm happy that they made it this way so if I see one in real life I'd be able to differentiate it quicker from the standard x3 Either way those blue bits still look good in my opinion
Not my thing but I like that this is a just a car that happens to use electric. Unlike EQC etc. it doesn't look like it came from space. Just a regular x3
Surprised it didn't get shortlisted. It's a pretty great all rounder, efficient and fun to drive. The rear wheel drive is an advantage most of the time and actual buttons for main functions make it a great introduction to EVs.

Regarding the lack of 4x4... How many use their X3 for off-roading..? RWD is enough for 99% of all owners. Wouldn't mind a bit more power tho. Maybe just the 340hp motor from the i4 would do?
Not sure why its being compared to the Merc or Audi as they are based on a electric platform from the start, where as the BMW ix3 is based on a petrol variant (X3) like the Peugeot e2008 is a 2008 or MG eZS is a ZS.

The problem is taking a 20 mile average including several stand stills in the cold for calculating a range, that is necessary only on highway driving. I wonder, if more energy was needed to reheat the battery than for driving.
It's great that BMW hasn't ruined the looks of all its new cars. This actually looks very nice and the new M3 and M4 should have been similar as well, but it is what it is.
I want an X3 PHV, but they turned down the power of the gas engine, why? Why why would they take a 248hp motor and turn it down? I want the EV around town and HP for the open road that is exciting. They should stick with PHV until they have a battery that works for them. It would have been money better spent anding range and performance to the PHV. Maybe they need to look at a RAV4 Prime for ideas.
I agree. Just taking the engine out and putting an electric motor and batteries in, which you can see is what was done when he opened the bonnet, is not enough. Especially when you’re asking £60-70k. The performance is 1-2s to 60 adrift of the X3 M40i, which is cheaper, plus with the range that Mat was getting it looks like the iX3 will need quite a bit of recharging and end up costing similar to run. No 4WD either. It might be worth waiting for the designed-as-electric version to come out. Getting this model now I’d expect Maserati levels of depreciation as it’s not as good as last year’s competition, let alone next year’s...
That’s exactly the reason why I like it and dislike those futuristic EV models. I had the chance to drive a iX 3 last weekend and it was excellent. A joy to drive! Silent, quick, good radius, etc…

How difficult would it have been to fit a Frunk to the car? It seems like a missed opportunity to not have even bothered. If nothing else, it could have been a place to keep the charging cables without taking up any space in the boot area. Also, 3K for lumbar seats (inc in special edition)? Typical BMW.

If you configure it in blue it gets silver accents on the exterior, the same for red. You can resign from those anyway, no matter what colour you decide to choose. You can spec the car already on German BMW website for example.
Have one, normal driving averages 2.6 to 2.7 miles/kwh (summer time). With 74Kwh available that's about 200 realistically. If you really start trying up to 240 is possible in the summer time.
What might even had much more impact is, that the car had several longer stand stills on that day and had to reheat the battery after each. It seems like Mat doesn't really understand BEVs from a technical point of view.

Able to deal with potholes, speed bumps and long motorway journeys. Ie is a Discovery more comfy than a Range Rover? Is an X5 more comfy than the XC90? I’ve been thinking about switching my X3 (2018) to the IX3 when it arrives but this has just helped me realise that I’m not ready for the EV leap just yet. At least not to this anyway! The rear-wheel drive thing is really disappointing- what’s the point in having a decent size SUV without being able to use 4WD?!

In this car it's possible to have IC, EV an FC drivetrains. What will be in 2030 you simply don't know yet.
I’ve been thinking about switching my X3 (2018) to the IX3 when it arrives but this has just helped me realise that I’m not ready for the EV leap just yet. At least not to this anyway! The rear-wheel drive thing is really disappointing- what’s the point in having a decent size SUV without being able to use 4WD?!
I really wanna see some 'avoid it's cars. We've done enough shortlist, consider. Even 'buy it's we've seen :p
