    Hey Samurai, Canadian living in Australia here. I was in a pretty dark place when I started watching your content. Your exuberance and love of the craft pushed me to try my own hand at woodworking. Starting with a Stanley 4 1/2 smoothing plane and sand paper sharpened chisels, I very quickly fell in love with the craft.
    It’s been eight years since then. I made my own work bench, with joinery of course. Not to mention permanent fixtures of furniture we use in our daily lives. I’m not a huge commenter, but I wanted to tell you that you truly changed a life. Your passion got me into the craft and Paul Sellers, taught me how to accessible it was.
    I am, and always will be in your debt. From one Canuck to another, cheers eh!

    I've been hobby woodworking now for about 15 years. I genuinely believe I've become pretty good at the craft. However, every time I see one of your build videos, I realise I still have plenty of room for improvement. Another beautiful piece of craftsmanship mate. Thank you.

      Yeah, in my world I’m ‘that guy’. They’ve seen my slabs. They’ve seen my tools. I generally feel pretty good about myself….then I come to UA-cam and see these channels and I don’t like the way it makes me feel. Lol. It’s like, ‘Ok, I’ve got a decent set up. I just need to….ummm….get a dust collection system, get a much better band saw. My table saw game is looking pretty weak. Get me one of those, no wait, he’s got two of those. I guess I need a bigger bench and expand my ‘shop’(shed)…’. Then I start getting nauseous and cry just a little bit when I realize that their clamps alone is worth double my entire setup

      @jdthnt Рік тому

      @@u.sonomabeach6528I somewhat agree with this, but only bc I’m sure you’re probably pretty good at woodworking! Give yourself grace where you fall short. Production only continues to grow organically, not when it’s forced! I have so much to learn as well, but I make a couple extra hundred bucks a week doing entryway tables! It’s not joinery, or high end hardwood either!

    • @1milliondogs
      @1milliondogs Рік тому

      @@u.sonomabeach6528 I feel the pain! Though I've got to say, unlimited tooling does not make you a better wood worker. I really believe that learning and perfecting your skills with minimal tools is all part of the process. Most of us started with cheap or old chisels, a generic wooden mallet, a mass produced saw and a budget metal roofers square, but we upgraded as we improved.

    OK, admit it. You had fun on this one! Such a pleasure to see you back in the shop. I admire the tenacity and versatility on the cabin and remote property. But candidly, it's always your woodworking that really lights me up. (BTW, thanks again fir the wisdom on Odie's Oil. You really out on the right track last year. It's simply wonderful stuff, in every way. So much better than my previou, ,decades-long favorite, Watco Danish Oil.)

There's maybe only some truth to that, but regardless, your craftsmanship is extremely inspiring. Great work (again).

    Very nice design. I really like that thicker bottom rail. I love that finish and the Sapele is so beautiful. I had some heavy duty exterior doors made for a client from this wood for a soundproof room that had double pained laminated glass. Gorgeous wood, and super strong. They weighed a ton and I had to carry them up 4 flights of windy stairs in San Francisco.

    I've watched this one a few times now. We're getting ready for a kitchen remodel that will give us a bar, so barstools are on the project list and these are the most beautiful I've seen. You sort of skipped over the mortise cutting steps that require angled mortises (or angled tenons). Could you explain how you did that? It looked like maybe you cut a straight center section on the mortises with mortiser, then did complimentary angle work with chisels from each side. Right?
