Jimmy’s shop is so much like my dad’s shop growing up. You used a lot of metal tools when doing woodwork. Oh and he loved his 40s model Delta bandsaws. I love Jimmy’s take on the stool. It is very Diresta 👍
What a great build. I do like how you and the Samurai did different pressure fit pins on the center brace. My dads am old school wood worker and I’m trying to get him hip to UA-cam. Amd when I show him your vids amd other wood working videos he’s just blowin away on how far things have developed and all the new school technology. And I appreciate how much you cover both ends of the spectrum on all your build. Much love Jimmy!!🤜🏻⚡️🤛🏻
Hey Jimmy,Nice meeting you at the Milk run, came home today to jersey, stopped at the run for a coffee and watched this vid while there !,I knew the challenge would be childs ply for U ! Lol,wife luvs the sped up soundtrack !
I love the different takes on each others projects. There is a big difference between Diresta and Samarai style... diresta has the "get things done" mentality, Samarai has the "let it happen naturally" mentality. I love it!
Fabulous how 19th century tech makes something that is useful, aesthetically pleasing & durable. Sure 21st century stuff is low cost, but not so durable, and bereft of soul & beauty. Thank you for sharing!
Well done, Jimmy. A nice variation on the design Samurai did. More of a Diresta rustic look. Outstanding. I'm going to take up the challenge as well. Got nothing to do today or tomorrow. Cheers!!!
Nice job Jimmy. I like how you kept the milling saw marks so you can see how it was originally cut. I got some old window headers (2x12 lumber) from a job and I’ve been saving it to make a bench with the same joinery. This video came at a great time. Thanks DiResta and Samurai
Interesting, though I like the SC wedged through tenon, which requires 2 fewer mortises than jimmy's does and isn't a common wedged through tenon. LOVE the choice of wood. Beautiful!
jimmy i would love to see you build your verison of samurai woodworking workbench but with the direata touch....i am a huge fan and i watch most of if not all your videos i mean even before youtube its awesome to watch and i am huge fan of your brother to. keep up the good work.
Hey a chance to get the razor again! I had gifted the one I previously bought to a friend not knowing you no longer had them available…. I’m definitely getting this box!
Excelente proyecto muy bien desarrollado y mejor ejecutado , reto más que superado , gracias por compartir tanta creatividad , un saludo cordial y por supuesto un gran like desde Narón , Galicia ( España ) 🤓 😜
I made one of these in HS shop class back in the early 80s and have used it as a step into my bed ever since. I also use it while tying my boots every morning
"pro"tip: if you have two pieces where you have to cut a half circle, like the legs here, you can put them one against the other and use a hole saw to cut the hole fast and clean. I usually staple them to an MDF piece i have for that kind of stuff.
Now me? I woulda painted that step red, just for the laughs. "Its my red headed step stool, never knew my real stool" and to me? thats funny cause I AM a red headed step child.
Tips for calculating where the tenons need to be when doubling up on a single leg? I understand the 1/3 rule for single tenons, but what about the width apart for them now that you have two on each leg? Does it matter ?
You make everything look so simple.. and u always have a solution for the problem.. as always great stuff and I can't wait to get my stuff I ordered from you... hope you had a great Thanksgiving
I love watching all of your videos brother. Sometimes I rewatch them. Lol. I like that big razor you made. I don’t have one but I was wondering if it is sharp? I hope you and your family have great holidays.
ya, but i dont understand leaving the cup in the board just to preserve the mill marks so it looks 'rough' when it's not a rough product at all. nice joinery, thanks for sharing
I love it! Classic Jimmy Diresta. Loved the circle sawn scars on the benchtop. Such a perfect take on traditional Japanese meeting American functionality.
Hey all - Just a quick update to let you know that My Giant DiResta Razors are Now Live Here: imakeny.com/products/diresta-razor-blade
I watched Making Fun on Netflix. Such an awesome show.
That was a fun Project - Loved the way you went about it! :)
Thank you brother
Jimmy “The Band Saw Whisperer" DiResta! I love how you showed two ways of making those holes. You got a dril? Perfect! No drill? Use a Chisel!
Paul Sellers has a couple really good videos on cutting a mortise with a chisel like that. I’ve done it a bunch of times just because I can now.
You know, I was thinking the same thing through the video. He shows different methods. He just makes everything look so darn easy!
You made that look so easy. It's great! Every short person (me) needs a great looking, sturdy, lasts-forever stool! It's beautiful!
quick and dirty with the rough-cut-look, i love it! thanks Jimmy
Sand the joints, leave the dust in the gaps then varnish over it. Great vid.
"Samurai Jimmy" what a great looking piece! The rough sawn lumber and spalting look so good. I'd say you easily met the challenge! Jimmy rises again!
Jimmy’s shop is so much like my dad’s shop growing up. You used a lot of metal tools when doing woodwork. Oh and he loved his 40s model Delta bandsaws. I love Jimmy’s take on the stool. It is very Diresta 👍

Sempre tu Gimmy sei un grande uomo mi mancavano i tuoi video 👍⚡️⭐️❤️🔥
I love the different takes on each others projects. There is a big difference between Diresta and Samarai style... diresta has the "get things done" mentality, Samarai has the "let it happen naturally" mentality. I love it!
I agree both great makers.
THEY ARE BEST OF THE BEST MAKERS.
Again Jimmy shows more than one way to get results. Thanks for the inspiration and tips. Stay safe my friend.
I appreciate your sense of symmetry in wood scraps.
This man intelligent and professional and the first person make me learn handmade and I love ❤️ work because his video this man number one
Very inspiring for my first band saw that's arriving on Monday 👌♥️
Awesome hit me up if ya need anything
Great build Jimmy. I love how you have the same harbor freight pull saw I have. If it works, who cares where it's from!
Fabulous how 19th century tech makes something that is useful, aesthetically pleasing & durable. Sure 21st century stuff is low cost, but not so durable, and bereft of soul & beauty. Thank you for sharing!

oh Jimmy, you and your bandsaw. Every time I'm left crying for more
Nice job Jimmy. I like how you kept the milling saw marks so you can see how it was originally cut.
I got some old window headers (2x12 lumber) from a job and I’ve been saving it to make a bench with the same joinery. This video came at a great time. Thanks DiResta and Samurai
You definitely put your stamp on this design. 😁 Love the rustic look of it. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful, Jimmy! Great work! 😃
What a beautiful wood, hum? Fantastic!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I watch you both and love this challenge between you. I enjoy watching masters of their craft design and build unique pieces.
At 1:55 genius idea using the cut off from the opposite side to mirror it! :)
I was wondering how he was going to do it...simplest way is the best!
Cool. Has the DiResta trademark on the stool. Way to go!!
One day I hope to be a sawing and chiseling machine like you are in your video's. Thank you for the outstanding video's.
That disc sander is amazing. You have all the fun toys👍
Interesting, though I like the SC wedged through tenon, which requires 2 fewer mortises than jimmy's does and isn't a common wedged through tenon.
LOVE the choice of wood. Beautiful!
Watching you work never gets old.
When i look at the stuff that was made 200 years ago with just a chisel and a cross cut saw and some planes it blows my mind.
Very nice stool. Great tip if you free hand a curve to use the cut off to mirror it on other side.
Very nice. That shimming at the end to expand the leg join into the table top was mindblowing
I like the CA glue and sawdust trick. Dully noted.
jimmy i would love to see you build your verison of samurai woodworking workbench but with the direata touch....i am a huge fan and i watch most of if not all your videos i mean even before youtube its awesome to watch and i am huge fan of your brother to. keep up the good work.
Jimmy on his bandsaw is just magical.
Dude
Way to Really Step It Up!!!
Box o Jimmy!!!
Great Stuff
HAPPY Holidays!!
Love it. Cheers Jimmy (& Jesse). Have a great weekend ;)
I enjoyed the way you mixed hand tools and power tools in this one, Jimmy. The spalting on that wood is really interesting. Nice work.
Great content
Awsome simple build
Excelent design
Love all the hard work
Hey a chance to get the razor again! I had gifted the one I previously bought to a friend not knowing you no longer had them available…. I’m definitely getting this box!
Beautiful job Jimmy 😜😎
Good job Jimmy Diresta well done
Excelente proyecto muy bien desarrollado y mejor ejecutado , reto más que superado , gracias por compartir tanta creatividad , un saludo cordial y por supuesto un gran like desde Narón , Galicia ( España ) 🤓 😜
Samurai Carpenter: Jimmy you have been challenged!
Jimmy: not so much......
Jimmy - 14 minutes later, done!
There's just something very 'DiResta' about the sound of the random orbit sander. Makes me smile :)
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤️ 🎀 ❤️ 🎀 ❤️ 🎀
I made one of these in HS shop class back in the early 80s and have used it as a step into my bed ever since. I also use it while tying my boots

Yet another Diresta Built gem..! 👍
Love the old style videos!
Thanks Jimmy, a great way to start my day! 👍👍👍
Hey Jimmy, I'm still here, always!! Another great job Man! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
"pro"tip: if you have two pieces where you have to cut a half circle, like the legs here, you can put them one against the other and use a hole saw to cut the hole fast and clean. I usually staple them to an MDF piece i have for that kind of stuff.
I like your version of the stool. Nice work
O que mais me impressiona é a sua capacidade e principalmente talento em tornar um desafio em algo extremamente simples. Pega a madeira e algumas ferramentas e está pronto o projeto. I'll intercept that hug and wish you a great day brother.
Zabsolutely beautiful, Jimmy. 👍
The time lapse parts make Jimmy look like a human sawzall! 🪚🏁
One of my favorite builds!
A great video and a great bundle deal on the knife and razor blade! Can’t wait for the live chat!
Very good piece, it's nice to see you work
I need to up my coffee intake. Your work speed is phenomenal
Now me? I woulda painted that step red, just for the laughs. "Its my red headed step stool, never knew my real stool" and to me? thats funny cause I AM a red headed step child.

Wonderful job Jimmy!
Looks super cool. Nice work.
Nice old school craftsmanship.

Interesting choice leaving the saw marks in. I kinda like it!
The Diresta way of woodworking with metal powertools. Love this guy.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing those tips and the make!
DiResta is the man.
Well done. 😁
Jimmy' version of Cross Fit. Make those Tri's burn!!
Awesome! And the size of that disc sander!!!
Very nice. Thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍
Smashed it like a boss👌🏴
You sounded motorized! Nice spalted stool man! Wish I could see all the competition pieces in one place. I dig seeing all the variations!
I sure like your style!
“Now you wanna run around talkin’ bout shoulder planes like I ain’t got none, what, you think I sold’em all, cause I stay well off”
I want this stool. Great job
ya, but i dont understand leaving the cup in the board just to preserve the mill marks so it looks 'rough' when it's not a rough product at all. nice joinery, thanks for sharing
Amazing video as usual Jimmy
I love it! Classic Jimmy Diresta. Loved the circle sawn scars on the benchtop. Such a perfect take on traditional Japanese meeting American functionality.
Now the real question is whose do you like better? J.DiResta's or
The S.Carpenter's. Both are awesome makers and both look awesome!
I love the process .... I use chisel -> it's boring -> I Drill ^^
The maker himself 👍🏻
No weight restrictions with this stool. Solid as a rock!
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
The Boss.👍🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Awesome jimmy I like how you show more then one way to skin a cat. Nice job.
It's perfect Jimmy.
На фоне рогов - это шедевр!!!👍👍👍
Excellent. Love these challenges.
Beast mode activated!
put the bench in the shop ill buy 1 !
LOL, Jimmy does one leg hole with a chisel and you can tell he was like "Nope, not doing that again... where's the Forstner bit..."
❤️❤️❤️❤️ I wish I could someday accept your challenge …wonderful design ❤️❤️❤️❤️
