    American way:
    1) use automatc gearbox
    2) floor it
    3) stay at max rpm no matter how stuck you are
    4) "I'm offroading god!"

    Pretty awesome, don't know if I agree with only letting tyre pressures down on very soft ground though. I normally run no higher than 20 PSI off road, and down to about 15 on sand, but maybe that's just me.

      You're absolutely correct. I think some people just do it when they think it's necessary but I do it all the time even on the dirt road leading to the trail because it's usually so damn bumpy

      I know right! Haha and let's get these guys opinion on how to get a new Defender ready for off-roading. They were worried about that license plate barely sticking down on that steel bumper imagine all the plastic bumper covers hanging off of the new Defender with all the independent suspension and airbags. How funny. Sad thing is if you showed me a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon without a body on it back then and ask me what company I thought it might be in the future I would say oh it's a Land Rover wow solid axles articulating Factory front and rear lockers with electric sway bar disconnects how awesome or even a Grenadier but no you show me a new Defender and I'm like oh wow it's a Range Rover and it's a discovery with different body. Forget all these techniques you can just select it with a lever. How pathetic. They should have called the new Defender something else and came out with something like the Grenadier it really is a huge mistake but all they want to do is make money in a bunch of rich people just buy whatever is for sale. But I bet 20 years down the road you won't see a bunch of them going off-road the way you see a bunch of old disco's

    So amazed that thing didnt get stuck once with those skinny tires

    • @mickeydee3595
      @mickeydee3595 8 років тому +6

      skinny tires believe it or not are much better than fat tires.
      Skinny tyres will create a longer track when air down, similar to a excavator track whilst a fat tyre will creater and wider track which is not what you want.
      Also skinny tyres cut down to the grippy ground where fat tyres will sit ontop of the slippery stuff.
      Ever notice how military vehicles usually have skinny tires?
      Tis for a reason :)

    • @CoolArrow78233
      @CoolArrow78233 8 років тому +1

      There are advantages and disadvantages for both designs. Skinny tires cut, wide tires can achieve that 'floating' effect. Don't knock either side before truly knowing about both, yo.

    • @mickeydee3595
      @mickeydee3595 8 років тому +1

      Name me a situation where Floating is advantageous?

    • @CoolArrow78233
      @CoolArrow78233 8 років тому +2

      +JkandI when you got several feet of mud/snow to work with. Instead of cutting through and getting high centered, the wide foot print will help pack down and sit on top of the "mush" like the action that snowshoes provide

    Gosh I would love to see how this guy responds to an off-road Trail here in Arizona with totally off-camber rough Rocky steep sections that those open differentials couldn't even handle. I guess that's why when the traction control system came out a lot of the British people thought it was the end-all-be-all technology when they claim he don't need lockers if you know how to drive right while down in Australia or here in southern USA we have trails that prove otherwise

    when l have a failed hill climb, when l started descending in reverse gear is it better to turn off rear diff lock ?

    is the 3rd gear best for climbing a maddy hill?

    • @d1oftwins
      @d1oftwins 5 років тому +1

      I think the video said 3rd gear in *low.* It is suggested to not make the wheels slip due to high torque, keeping static friction to the ground prevents you from loosing grip on a steep hill.

    • @ronaldrrootiii6040
      @ronaldrrootiii6040 Рік тому

      I would say go out there and figure it out for yourself it all depends on how steep the hill is but definitely not first gear basically you want a torque reduction

    I'd like to see how much these instructors complained when all the new air suspension stuff came out especially on the new Defender LOL I wonder which ones sold out and which ones are looking at the Grenadier now. Yeah anyone can justify that the new stuff does well but will it last and isn't even necessary when Jeep Rubicon Wrangler can get away with solid axles and Lockers in a modern vehicle. They make it seem like as if they had to make everything all fancy and it was inevitable LOL yeah increase the Creature Comforts inside on certain trim levels if you want but look underneath a new Defender it's a Range Rover and it's a discovery they're all the same now how sad. What's even more sad is that a cheap company like Jeep makes all these Street models that can't even go off-road worth a crap and still make one of the best off-road vehicles while Land Rover makes only four by fours that are pretty good off-road and luxurious but way too expensive and definitely not tough or reliable for doing more than a short off-road trip if you'd like to go out for days or weeks at a time far from civilization. Take the name off the vehicles and I would expect the Grenadier or the Rubicon Wrangler to be a Land Rover if I had to predict from the time this vehicle was made until right now not knowing how I Land Rover would end up becoming
