Fantastic video Heath! I've always wondered how to rig a double hook ballyhoo, I will definitely give this a try. Thanks for the video!

Thanks a boat for watching and always being here to share and support the channel. Glad to hear you learned from this one. Double hooking a ballyhoo is usually a mystery until you see it, and then it makes perfect sense. Thanks again for everything and making this happen. Tight lines & take care ;)

I get the impression that several years of your life you were a mate on a charter fishing boat and/ or worked at a marina tackle shop. You've got too much practical rigging knowledge for just a weekend angler. Because I'm a weekend angler and I've been fishing nearly all of my 61 years but I almost always learn a new trick watching your videos. Thanks for sharing, from one old dog to another.

Thanks a million for watching and always being here to share and spread some positivity. I think it's a wonderful thing, seeing your comments to other people's. Being able to support each other as a fishing family makes the sense of community come to life. Can't thank you enough for that. As for me, yes, I've done a little bit of everything in the fishing industry, but I'm really just a regular guy who has a passion for fishing, and a knack for going the extra mile to try and explain things as simply as I can.... Not to mention a true commitment and pleasure for sharing what I've learned through my failures in life. Thanks again, for everything you do for the channel. Wouldn't be able to get this done without you. Tight lines & take care ;)

Thanks a boat load for watching and leaving some fantastic feedback. Rigging them this way, definitely helps get the fish in the boat, those double hooks are deadly. Just stay away from reef. The toothy critters like them just as much. Thanks again for always being here and supporting the channel. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi Chris, thanks a million for watching and always being here to share some positivity and support. I truly appreciate it and couldn't do this without you. Bummer about the wind, on your trip, you just couldn't seem to get cut a break. That's how it goes sometimes, one of the things we can't control... The weather. Glad you found the episode informational, and hopefully useful. Thanks again for everything you do. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi Heath, That was very interesting. There are very specific steps to get that double hook set into the Ballyhoo. The wire to close the mouth and how to place the hooks was very cool. I can see how that would be easy yo get wrong. Great job explaning how to do it right. I caught a 14 inch Large Mouth Bass in the pond today. There are a lot of fish there. I just need to learn the water to catch them. Hope the family's well. Take care and good luck, Mickey

Hi Mickey, thanks for watching. Avi and the girls say "Hi Mickey". Congrats on the nice bass. You'll figure it out soon enough, and then you'll be the king around there. Double hook rigging any bait always seems tricky, until you see it done, then it seems more like common sense than anything. But until you get shown the technique, it can be intimidating to even try. Thanks again for always being here. Hope all is well with you and the family. Talk to you Thursday. Take care :)

Hi Heath, "Hi" to Avi and the "Fishing Girls". I never would have thought about removing the digestive tract or breaking the back bone. These are the kind of details that make a big difference on the action of the bait. This is where your knowledge makes a big difference in catching or not. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Take care and "see" you on Thursday. Mickey

Another great video Heath!!! If you have to time, this is the way to go and saves you a ton of money. What’s really amazing is the difference in hook placement between a single verse double hook setup. The single, which is very easy to rig, holds the hook much more forward than the double. But as we know, many predator fish bite the back half of our lures to disable their prey. So the double hook setup is the winner by far with a higher hookup percentage in my opinion. Thanks again for all your hard work and I hope your family is well. Jay

Hi Jay, thanks a million for watching and sharing. Yes, the time thing and know--how issues are usually the selling points of pre-rigged bait. Honestly, I'm more of a lures angler, but I like to shake things up every now and then. Double hooks on bally's is definitely the way to go, you will cut down that short strike ratio greatly. Also, clearing the digestive tract, is a trick that people who are just getting into might not know about, it keeps your bait from spinning. Always great hearing from you and having your support for the channel. Sincerely, couldn't do this without you. My family is doing well, hope the same on your end. Thanks again. Tight lines & take care.

I have been looking to add this to my arsenal, this the video I have been looking for! I troll from my sailboat so hitting "proper" trolling speed can be challenging, I love that these can be trolled slowly as luck with standard lures is limited at 4-5kts. Great video, broken down step by step with nice close ups so even a bozo like me can figure it out! Question - once you have vaccum sealed them, where do you store them after that, and what's the shelf life? Thanks Captain, tight lines from Hawaii 🤙🏼

Wow I can't imagine trying to manage sails and trolling baits but I think you're right that this set-up would be a good choice. I'm going to go out in a limb here and say you would store them in the freezer or possibly the fridge if you were planning to use them in a day or two. Cheers from Bali 🌞🌊

@@pakde8002 It can be tricky! On a good day I can cover 60 miles working the 40 fathom line from dawn to dusk up and down the east coast of Oahu. It's nice to spend zero in fuel, and bringing in a pelagic on wind power is extremely rewarding. Ono season is about to begin, and I'm going to be deploying Heath's planer technique plus this double hook ballyhoo technique to better my chances.

Off the subject. The Island of Oahu, is where one of your target species, the Ono, got it's nickname "Wahoo" from. Just a little angler trivia. Thanks for everything. May your journeys be safe and exciting. Take care :)

Hi Heath awesome explanation. Love how you simplify your rigging. Can you pretty much use any sardine or other bait fish the same way? I’m going to Philippines and not sure if they have ballyhoos there!

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 роки тому +1

Works with mullet and mackerel.... if the sardines are fresh it'll work with them, once the are frozen and thawed, they're too mushy. I'm sure there's probably a different local bait that they'll advise you on.

Great to hear from you. Thanks a million for watching. Hope you holiday was joyful. Yes, I've been busy here too, so I completely understand. When it comes to rigging bait, yes, you can definitely use this method on other fish. However, if your using a sardine, I'd go with a single hook, and you're gonna have to trim off the tail, otherwise it'll spin when you are trolling. Can't thank you enough for you support of the channel and making this happen. Tight lines & take care ;)

Thanks a million for watching and putting in a great request. I will definitely put it on my "to do" list. Having a small boat with limited space, these types of teasers take up precious spots for having baits out, but there are ways around it, if you think outside the box. So you've given me a great idea to be able to show how to adapt and overcome this situation. Thanks again for always being here and supporting the channel. Tight lines & take care ;)
