  • This episode is an exciting hands-on, deep sea fishing seminar where I go over the basics & tactics of trolling and how to catch mahi mahi using only artificial lures. The tactics I go over are timeless, tried & true to the sport. I also have an extremely successful day getting into the bite and bringing home some fish for dinner. If you're getting into trolling with artificial lures and want to learn more about it, or you're a seasoned pro searching for some different perspective and insight on the subject, with some good old fashioned excitement involved... Then this episode's for you.
    Enjoy ;)

    Hi Heath. I agree!!! The mini turbo slammer is the bait of choice when Mahi fishing. Equally as good in my opinion is a 4in squid skirt and let’s not forget the trusty white buck tail which I know is your all around top contender. This season, I’ve really made a concerted effort to troll light tackle. At first it was for the kids to be able to reel in fish without having to hold a massive trolling rod. But now I wouldn’t go back. ‘m trolling with 4000 and 5000 spinning reel setups and catching everything I used to when I fished much bigger tackle. Except it’s gotten much more fun. Mahi and Tuna on light tackle makes for fantastic fishing. Kids think they are reeling in whales. Thanks for all your efforts as this was another great video. Stay well. Jay

      Hi Jay, thanks a boat load for watching and sharing. I'm right there with you on the light gear. I'll be giving that a work out here soon... Just got make sure the big guns are in working order too. Marlin season is right around the corner, so I gotta be ready. It's always good fun to watch the kids put a hurting on the fish with spinners. Honestly, if it was just dolphin out there that's all I'd use all the time. Can't thank you enough for always being here and sharing your experiences. Makes the journey come full circle to be able to share stories. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)

    heath another great video ,
    i notice you have a garmin , which seems to read depth very well , which is pretty important ,
    can you share what model garmin that is , what transducer
    and how the transducer is mounted , i know a lot of folks struggle reading depths over 200 ft , maybe a future video ??

I'm with you on the artificials, that's what I go with most of the time too. Good job, Heath. I know people who only run and gun and might not wet a line unless they see something. I have had some luck blind trolling where those people would not have stopped, but I agree that both have their place

      Hi Alex, thanks for watching and always being here to support the channel. Honestly, I never thought the channel would be what it is, growth is steady, which is awesome. I much more appreciate slow & steady with people genuinely interested in fishing, than fast growth distorted by bots, other folks looking to do sub-for-sub, or people who follow but never watch. Call me crazy, but I believe in the long term commitment. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)

    Hi Heath, Great video, as usual. Mahi for dinner tonight and tomorrow. You certainly know how and where to catch Mahi. The "Fish Slayer" should have been on board to help land those fish. Hi Mickey, thanks for watching. Yes, we had Mahi tacos for a couple of days. Avi has been running around on the weekends, going to the local waterparks, malls, museums, ect... He really likes going out in the afternoons during the week with me, if I go... He loves just starting out into the darkness when night falls. Also, I think it's quite a bit cooler. This summer is looking good so far, hopefully the fish stick around, and the hurricanes stay away. Avi and the girls say "Hi". Hope all is well with you and your family. Stay well & take care :)

    What hook size do you use on the mini turbo slammers? Also do you ever rig those with anything in front? Say a daisy chain etc?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks a million for watching and asking some great questions. The hooks I use for the Turbo slammers are size 5-O J-hooks the link to them is in the description, they are from Mustad. Yes, I do use the Turbo Slammer as a trail lure on a daisy chain. Here's a link to an episode where I go over how I make a daisy chain meant for smaller game fish like mahi & tuna.

    Hey Heath, how long is usually the time period between each Mahi catch?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. There is no real plausible guestimate oof how much time will lapse between mahi strikes. Sometimes it's immediate, other time it's hours... sometimes you'll only get one in a day... In this episode, they were hitting approximately once every 45 minutes, if I had to put a time stamp on it. It's really all about food availability. Hope this helps answer your question. Thanks again for your support of the channel. I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)
