I watch a lot of how-to videos, as I like to do all the work on my '08 Tahoe that I can (and I rarely leave comments, but I felt compelled to leave you one). I have to tell you that this is one of the most informative and helpful videos I've ever watch watched. The camera angles, your commentary, and the thoroughness of the subject were all top notch. Kudos, brother. Well done.
I appreciate it all the kind words brother, guess my experience taking these out & repairing them has shown. 🙏🏻
Exactly what he /\ said!!
Ditto Matt and Jeff, from me 07 Tahoe, doing all the work I can manage without a shop, until I must. ( 238k miles, towing 6,200 lbs of Travel Trailer about 30,000 miles per year w/new engine and trans. It's not driven for anything but towing camper to races and shows etc). Anyway, JJ you made it look easy or at least masterfully doable.
I agree, you most definetly know what you are doing. Excellent video very informative. Your doing everything right.
This is the best dash repair jobs that I have seen on the Tube. Looks very tedious, but we'll worth the effort. Thanks.
All the other youtube video makers ought to watch this video to learn how to make a great instructional video!
You make a difficult project look so easy!
I gotta tell you, this is an outstanding tutorial. 95% of the DIY videos out there are a bit hit or miss when it comes to showing the ENTIRE process. You covered every screw and bolt! Amazing! Not that you make it look easy, but you made me want to do this myself. Great job, keep those videos coming.
Appreciate it that. Comments like this is the reason why I do them for you guys.
Wish you lived in the Atlanta area, I could watch a professional in action. I'm certain I could learn a lot. Keep up the awesome videos!
I love watching a true pro at work, who takes pride in what he does. Thank You very much!
Thanks for the kind words! I’ve definitely have done a few of these in my time 😉
Man... not for the faint of heart. This is NOT a simple project. WELL DONE!
True it is a large task to take on. I’ve just been doing them for a while that it’s not hard at all.
Amazing. I'd never seen a plastic stapler like that and you did a fantastic job.
Mannnn your video is proably THE ONLY 1 that shows step by step how to remove the dash ... this video is raw this video is awesome...This video is Rawsome 😂
Appreciate that!!! 🍻
This is the first of any of your videos I've seen, and I rarely comment on any. Great job here... the speed was perfect, lighting, video coverage/distance/focus, talking through the detail and continuing to the last screw (for those who absolutely must have closure!), and then a close-up review of the result. Well done! (A+)
Appreciate the great comment. 🍻
Bro, that was the best how-to video I've seen and you've encouraged me to repair mine in my '11 Tahoe. Outstanding job!
By far the best tutorial on this kind of repair on UA-cam. THANK YOU!!!!!
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching & the kind words.
My 2009 Tahoe dash is cracked beyond repair, looks like a replacement job for me. That looks like I would have an extra screw or two left over. Good job.
Nice Job! Great video with all the details. Your voice is easy to listen to and understand. That was a work of art.
Good afternoon beforehand. My 09 sierra dashboard is cracked in all the same places as that one you fixed. Man, really appreciate this very informative video on how to fix it and demonstration of tools needed. Really give me the motivation and hope that i didn't have, to repair it myself. Thank you so much, and thank you for this step by step video. I wish i can give you 100 stars cause you really killed it. Dashboard looks brand new.
I must say, this video, commentary and professionalism as into how you throughly covered the task is ( A+ ) all the way. And especially how you explained from beginning to the end all the bolts and connections, how to exactly fix the damage, a job well done!
Appreciate it that! These comments definitely help me to keep making these video that much better for you guys!
You have obviously seen a bunch of bad videos on repairs, because you learned how not to do them. WELL DONE VIDEO!. Comments were spot on, detailed just enough to get the point across. THis will take most of use a few hours but you are well versed in this job. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, your right about watching so many bad videos. That definitely helped me make this video. Glad it came out good & hopefully it helps you guys repair your panels & save some money in the process.
Awesome video straight to the point and the editing was excellent man 👍🏼
Appreciate it that bro! Glad it was helpful
One of the best, most detailed and informative videos I’ve seen. Hats off to you brother. Wish you were local for you to replace the dash in my 08 Suburban.
Appreciate bro!
I wish I had seen your video when I started trying to repair my Dash your video simplified everything for me thank you so much
I felt compelled to subscribe after watching such a professional , no nonsense, strait to the task at hand video. You were thorough, informative, and easy to understand. Your editing was appropriate and made the watching experience enjoyable. I am confident I can remove and install a GM dash easily. Maybe not as fast. You had that dash out in 15 minutes! Impressive. Thank you.
Appreciate it that! I try to make my videos very informative without wasting people’s time. Glad this was helpful & beneficial. Thanks for the support! 👊🏼
Amazing informative practical video, thanks, man.
Great Video! Thanks JJ.
I had an unfortunate situation where I took my 2012 Silverado 2500HD to the dealer for a recall airbag replacement. They cracked the dash in the process and are denying it. I got them to pay for the new dash parts, but there is no way I'm letting them touch my truck again as I'm sure more would get broken.
Even though I am a trade pro (Plumbing/HVAC) I was reluctant to attempt this install myself. I was so relieved when I found your video! And you appear to be working on my exact truck!
I've watched countless "how to videos" on various topics and I have to say this is hands down the best one I've ever seen! Your thorough bolt by bolt, piece by piece explanation, and superb editing of time consuming repetitive stuff was perfect for watchability. I am now fully confident that I can do this job. Well Done Sir! I will be subscribing!....I may even take this opportunity to upgrade my radio to a modern info center!
Appreciate the great comment & support!
Wow very impressed you're very precise on explaining things step-by-step you did an awesome job highly appreciated. I will definitely be subscribing thanks again
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching
Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Very informative. Looks like you have done this many times before. Thank you !
Appreciate it that! Yes I have a few under my belt you can say 😁
Great video, took me a few hours but its fixed. Thank you!!
Awesome glad this video was helpful!
Great vid JJ. Perfect repair guide!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful
Very thorough. Very helpful. Well done
Thanks!
Wow! You guys did a great job with this video! Probably the best I've seen! Very informative thanks!
Appreciate the great comment! 👍🏻
@@JJBanuelos Well deserved sir!
Outstanding video, VERY informative, Thank You!!
Glad it was helpful!
Very nice video. You answered every question. Thanks.
Thanks! 🙏🏻
i plan on taking out the dash to paint it soon this looks a whole lot easier than i expected thanks for the detailed tutorial
No problem. Yes it’s not that bad just a ton of 7mm screws
I was thinking the same. Not as bad as I thought, just a lot of screws
Excellent Video!!! Exactly what I was looking for!!
Thanks, glad this was helpful
@@JJBanuelos For sure!
Best tutorial bro 👌
Very well put together video!
Thanks!
Fantastic video! I was thinking I'd have to replace mine, but this process looks doable!
Glad it helped!
I was literally about to order a new top part of my dash, not now... Thanks for the idea brother 🤝🤝🤝
Any time! 🍻
Thank you for this video 💪🏾🔥
No problem!! 👊🏼
Nice job!
Great job.
Awesome patience. I'll just use super glue. 🙂 You have it together. Keep it up.
😂, appreciate it!
You do really good work REALLY GOOD
Appreciate it! I guess over 15yrs of experience shows.
Pretty amazing work.
Thank you!
Helpful to get at the cig lighters for a USB port swap. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome job. These all crack in the same places and often cracks develop in sequential order. Great repairs but I think they will crack again in the next summer heat. I sprayed sound deadening on the underside of the panel. Stopped squeaks. Looks factory accept that the only thing holding it down is the sensor.
Very nicely done, excellent, l need to repair my dash, has a lot of cracks, hopefully it comes out good, thanks for putting up such a informative video
Thanks, just take your time especially coming out not causing any more cracks that your don’t already have
perfect video. im going from this LT style dash to LTZ swap in my single cab . i just pulled the LTZ dash from a Yukon to put in my Silverado . nice to know there is a couple different things to go over when removing this style dash vs the other thanks
This is great bro. My dash is pretty borked from a heater core and sound system install I had done a few years ago. I always wanted to fix it, but it seemed so intimidating. Now I feel lie I can do this myself as it doesn't seem that difficult to do
That’s awesome glad this video was helpful
Thanks! Awesome Video.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Excellent production in every way.
I’d suggest anyone interested in producing a quality informative and to the point video of an auto repair first review and take notes of this video.
Appreciate it bro! Making a video like this definitely adds time to the repair but also benefits the viewer.
👍👍👍 a real pro and a good one
Appreciate that 👊🏼
I have a 2007 Suburban with 325,000 miles. The dash had the same cracks. I repaired them with a similar plastic repair tool. 2 years later, more cracks. Didn't feel like messing with taking the dash out so I used some epoxy and paint. When it cracks again, new dash or skin. It's so brittle now it's like handling an egg shell.
Yeah unfortunately when they get that brittle it’s best just to replace it.
@Matthew Kerhin they are not any better, still made from the same material.
After watching many videos about this type of repair, this is the best of all. You have made this job look easy and the details that you have provided are fantastic. Hats off to you sir. One question though, do you happen to know the part number for this dash?
It is a pleasure to watch a professional work. This video I will save for future reference . Thank you sir for your time. You obviously have learned well.
Thanks for sir!
“You”
Gracias!! Has hecho un tutorial detallado, claro, fácil de entender sin palabras demás. Muy buen trabajo.
Felicitaciones !!
Saludos desde Guayaquil
Gracias 🙏🏻
thank you for doing this video. I was going to order a new dash but they are becoming scarce, plus the cost is astronomical. I've decided to keep my tahoe for the foreseeable future and will be using your video to help repair mine the same way
That’s great to hear, I’m glad this video gave you the confidence to try it yourself. Let me know how it comes out for you.
Awesome video
Thanks man!
This dude is awesome
Appreciate it that bro!
Dude! You are the fricken MAN! I don't know if you are a factory mechanic or if you've done this before but this is the only video I found online that shows step by step how to remove a 2008 silverado dash. I have the exact same truck and the heater core went out and you have to pull the dash to replace it. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
great video
Glad you enjoyed it
great video!
Thanks!
I like the heat stapler…. Unfortunately on the Dodge dashes when they get to the cracked state, the rest is also brittle. I have had some success with epoxy glassing the whole assembly. Had to use an 80 grit to get the surface to take the epoxy resin and not pop loose.
Good work brother. The one thing I would do different is, I would put in a new dash, cause we all know that is going to crack again (somewhere else) the JB will hold well but it's so brittle the next cracks will be right next to old cracks or around passenger air bag. Might as well install new stereo while your there 😃. (I recognized that you were cognoscent of that by not putting in that bolt)
That’s true but this was for a customer I always recommend a new one if it’s in their budget. Thanks for watching
The Tahoe dash is a bit different, but I am sure these hits most of the important parts anyway. Thank you!
Yes Tahoe dash are a little different but basically come out the same way.
Nice job sir. I am not able to to do a project like this myself because of poor eyesight. Wondering if you have time to work on my 2011 Suburban. Don’t have much confidence in the Chevy dealership here in Atlanta. Will like to follow up if this is possible. Best video I have seen on You Tube. Thanks.
hey man great video. quick question, under the steering wheel, where the trailer brake controls are (25:35) , do you think there is enough space to add an auxiliary button right above it? I'm installing some rock lights and want to add the button right above the trailer brake controls but not sure if there is anything behind that won't give me enough room to install that. Hope I'm making sense. Thanks man!
Are you able to switch from the “Luxury” dash to the one with two gloveboxes?
Dude your Awesome
Thanks! 👊🏼
they certainly like their 7mm & 10mm bolts... holy moly that was a lot of them!
Right but at least it makes it simple & not have to bring out the toolbox lol
@@JJBanuelos true!
This I'd very awesome video wished you would have showed how good the dash looked when you finished it on the table but great job I would have never had tried this before watching this I have a gmc sierra 2008 has a couple cracks no missing parts might just pop her out fix it n do this but a bit slower I'm sure
Awesome video! Great technique and instruction. Where would you get replacement dash parts if chunks have completely fallen off?
If it’s missing chunks they don’t make pieces for that you have to replace the whole dash unfortunately.
Outstanding! I'm just wondering, how many of these trucks have you done?
Amazing
Thanks!
I have a 2011Avalanche and I just used your video to replace the dash. Why doesn't my upper (small back) panel snap back in place like yours did? I bought a new one of those as well.
First, the dashskin looks great on my 2008 Suburban LTZ formerly with a very cracked dash. Second what do you do when you need to remove the entire dash to repair the heater box? The dash has to come out and the new dashskin has it glued in place? I think I will destroy the new dashskin if I try this removal? Any advice??? One more FYI: on install plan to have at least twice the amount of silicone available to properly glue it down.
excelente trabajo
Dam!! BRO !! EASY AS SUNDAY MORNING 🌄
Thanks bro!! Yes not too bad once you get a couple under your belt. Hope it was helpful!
@@JJBanuelos Its very helpful. I'm just going to get a new one...
@@barrymonroy7138 awesome, yeah if your not going to repair it replacing it is just as simple.
Awesome. Thank you. /John
🍻
You are a rock star dude. That was great! May try it myself but I'm thinking of bringing it to you since you make it look so easy. I'm in DFW but we come to Houston somewhat frequently to see some friends of ours. What is your shop name?
Thanks! I actually just work out of my garage no shop. Give me a heads up if you do decide you want me to fix it I’ll see if I have time when your coming into town.
I’m about to put a complete new dash in my 2009 Sierra. I was trying to think of a way to reinforce and brace the new dash to help prevent cracking again. Possibly a heavy duty construction silicone on the bottom side of the dash? Input is appreciated!!!
Hey I had this dashboard that turned out to be broken far worse then it looked, would you know where I can get a replacement?
Yeah that actual looks pretty good considering GM is asking $1000 for a 11-18 year old truck dash.
$1000!!!!! For just that one part. No trim, no sensors, no screws, just 3lb of plastic.
If you haven’t lost chunks of the dash this is your best options.
Great instructions. I’m planning to take mine out and get it wrapped in vinyl. Is it possible I can still connect the speedometer and the passenger airbag so it’s still drivable and won’t have any lights come on?
Yeah you should have any issues connecting any accessories back up since the vinyl is thin & wont keep them from going back in.
AWSOME video man. Do you guys provide this service. I have a 08 yukon that needs this type of help….
Awesome video! Any idea if this application would work to repair cracks in the dashboard of a 2006 Silverado? Are you in the Houston area by chance? If not, suggestions on going about finding a place that performs a repair like this, rather than simply applying a plastic overlay?
Unfortunately the 2006 model is a little different but the concept of the repair is the same. I am in Houston, send me a email with some pics of the dash & I’ll see what I can do. JJbanuelos84@gmail.com
Obvious this guy knows what he's doing, and the work looks good. I do have two questions... do you guarantee no dash rattles? And how did the dash crack up like that?
Definitely guarantee there won’t be any rattles & as far as the dash cracking it’s due to stress on those points from the manufacture & the plastic they use.
Thanks for the video, very good! My dashboard was replaced some years ago due to recall. Now it’s cracked again, I’m wondering if the dealership replaced it or repaired it!
That’s a good question but I doubt they would cover it
It’s known that GMC/Chevy make cheap plastic parts. Is there anything you can recommend to layer on top of the dash once you have replaced it, to be able to extend the life of it? Any type of acrylic coating or perhaps a vinyl over-lay?
Did you glue before stapling the long cracks? (seems like there was a light blue line).
No the light blue line was the marker I used to highlight the crack. Once you insert a couple staples if you line the cracks up really good it’s hard to see we’re it is so I use a marker to highlight them.
Where can you buy that part for the dash?
Thank you for the video. I have a 1995 silverado/c1500 that the bezel/instrument cover doesn't stay on anymore because the clip receiving pieces on the dashboard are all busted. so the clips on the bezel are fine, but have nothing to go into. Have you encountered this on vehicles you work on? are there universal kits available? I've looked everywhere. Thanks again for this.
Yeah usually when those break there’s not much you can do to make new mounting spots. If this is the case after I repair the cracks I epoxy the 2 panels together. If that doesn’t work they will have to be replaced unfortunately
Incredible ease of which you handled this repair. How much should i expect to pay for this repair by a professional. How do you compare this to a dash board skin?
Thanks, a professional will usually charge by how much the job pays to remove & install the dash which is 4hrs times the time for the repair so it may vary. I usually just charge a flat rate which can vary on the number or cracks. The dash board skins are ugly & don’t make it look any better, just my opinion.
I have a big chuck that broke off but I still have the piece. Can that be stapled back just like the crack one you repair in the video?
Yeah for sure, if you have the piece & there’s nothing else missing you can definitely staple it back together
Can you get to the heater core this way? Or do you have to remove the whole dash?
Unfortunately no you can’t you still need to remove the lower half
Nice repair and nice camera angles!
First bump on the road and 5 more cracks will form. GM fix your crappy dash design AO`s!
Appreciate it!
U did a good job I have the same truck even the same color my dash is also crack where r u located so u can fix my dash!
What prevented the air bag from going off while you were shaking it around?!!!
Removed negative batt terminal, then by the time I reached to get the airbag out it had discharged itself. Typically you wait around 10min before you mess with it once it’s main power source has been removed.
just curious, what state are you located in?
I just wanna know where your shop's at
What was the BLUE sealant you used before the epoxy when you was using the staple tool? Going to order one for sure!
That was just a blue market I used to high light the crack so I can tell where it was. It gets hard to see once you get the lines matched up really good.
@@JJBanuelos Ah gotcha was wonderin on that GREAT video and goin to order the tool! I thought the BLUE was some sort of 'pre-sealer' or something.
@@mt1885 no sir just a marker. Thanks for watching let me know how it works out for you.
@@JJBanuelos Can use on other plastics got motocross bikes.
