  • For over ten years, I’ve specialized in Nasal Breath Meditations that activate the vagus nerve, leading to profound states of Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR). Recently, Dr. Andrew Huberman has highlighted the critical role of NSDR practices, such as Yoga Nidra, in supporting nervous system balance, enhancing concentration, and promoting better sleep. My clients often see a marked improvement in their sleep quality, confirmed by their Whoop and Oura data, after these sessions. With millions of views, my NSDR techniques have positioned me, Justin Caffrey, as a leading figure in this powerful and restorative practice.
Hi everyone, I hope this week's video finds you well.
This is a 15 minute guided meditation I want to share for free with my UA-cam community. I recorded this 20 minutes before I had to sit a major exam. I am sharing with you how I calm my mind in the face stress and adversity. How connecting to the power of nasal breathing and meditation, I can turn down the stress (fight-flight) response.
I am a certified Buteyko Clinic trainer, and this simple breathing technique is something I use with my clients. We focus on the simplicity of reducing the inhale to four breaths and the exhale to six breaths, always keeping the focus on nasal breathing only.
Polyvagal Theory teaches us how to access the Parasympathetic State, but Nasal Breathing is the key to unlocking this. It allows you to tap into the Vagus Nerve and shift your nervous system out of the Sympathetic State. This slows down the rate of breathing.
Many people who are stressed or anxious are typically over breathing. Moving the respiratory system to circa 6-7 breaths a minute induces the Rest & Recovery (Parasympathetic) system. You may notice you yawn or salivate after 2-3 minutes. It is vital to keep the breath subtle. Imagine a piece of tissue under the nose and trying not to move it with either the inhale or exhale.
Minimising that movement of the breath and not taking big or deep inhales, just simply breathing slow and allowing the breath to move low. This video will give insight into why some of the world's leading business people, professional athletes, actors and artists seek out the support and guidance of Justin. A simple technique from the Buteyko Clinic.
Justin is a qualified Buteyko Clinic practitioner and a Mayo Clinic Health and Wellness Coach. He holds a Master's in Mindfulness Based Interventions & Neuroscience, and is the coach to global leadership teams and sports professionals.

Life will pass you by unless you pay attention.
Living in a prolonged state of Fight-Flight will lead to a dysregulated nervous system. Often known as low vagal tone, this can lead to feeling anxious, stressed, fearful, vulnerable, worrying and in a constant state of uncertainty and questioning yourself and being overly concerned by the opinions of others. It does not have to be like this. You have an incredible chemical factory within your body that can help balance your nervous system and restore harmony to your mind and body.
We have a vast amount of free content on UA-cam that we invite you to try. Including multiple guided practices.
We also have an excellent 21-day course that you can access at www.justincaffrey.com. The course was $389, and we have discounted it to $79, so everyone can access it! If you want to know more you can email justin@yourbottomline.com.

Thank you. I was amazed that you could do a teaching video right before an exam. Talk about practising what you preach! I hope the exam went well. You said we lose 60% of our cognitive something when we're in the fight/flight mode. (I forget the word, but I translate it to "brain power".) Thank you! No wonder I've had such severe mental fog and fatigue for the last umpteen years. So fab to have a tool to overcome that.

This was lovely, thank you! ❤ I was lying on a spike-mat, almost fell asleep. 😂 Sometimes I enjoy meditations without music more. But sometimes, especially at night, with soft background music.

Since discovering this video, I have added breath work daily. I have experienced a massive improvement in my anxiety symptoms. Anytime I feel myself starting to get tense, I just breathe the way you coach here. It works so well that it feels like magic. Thanks so much!

Thanks Justin. Hope your exam was easy and over quickly. I did this breathing in a church (I am not religious, but spiritual) before my first uni exam.I got a High Distinction.I was chuffed.

Thanks so much. Loved the guidance about not moving the tissue paper. That shifted the breath even more deeply. Hope you had successful test/exams!

This was wonderful. Very helpful at just the right time. I do practice breathing as you say, with a tissue or feather on the nose and not moving it as I breathe. What a difference that makes! Than you for your vids and generosity 🙏😊.

I really felt this session was wonderful. Thank you Justin 🙏. I have one question and would be very happy if you could comment. You have a previous meditation called "15-Minute Guided Nasal Breath Meditation for Vagus Nerve". These 2 meditations seem quite alike. Is there any difference? I practice the older one every day but if there is no problems, I would like to continue with this one. Please advice 🙏

This is a lovely guidance I would suggest you ditch mid video ads as they are very distracting & disruptive in the process. I didn’t even get 5 minutes into the video & some ad popped up selling me on another diet plan. I appreciate your videos & support your channel

Thank you Justin. This was just what I needed after a few incidents that were triggering my amygdala. I liked the advice on quiet breathwork. I did not know that we lose 60% of our mental cognition when in’Fight, flight, freeze’. I would like to know what resarch uncovered that to share with my high school students. I hope your exam went well. 😊

Thank you Justin...hope your exam went well...is it okay to do this lying down as well? I am following a few of your vagus nerve videos for anxiety which are so helpful especially as anxiety affects my appetite and makes me feel a bit nauseaus so the thought of going out to a restaurant can be unnerving so I really am so glad I came across this particular one...thank you so much 🙂

Why adverts during the video :S really interrupts what is a good meditation and is frustrating. Maybe put them at the beginning and end so you can still make money but not interrupt the session

@@JustinCaffreyUnfortunately the adverts are still there. After the 2nd one, I just stopped the meditation as it was counterproductive 😕
