Take your finger nail and scratch the frame anywhere on it. You will find it as dipped in a black wax and over the next couple of years you will see it less and less. Then you will see rust The first thing to rust through is the back cross member. I don’t drive my truck in salt but they all rust after the wax is gone. I spray my frame with fluid film which has to be applied every two years. Frame coating is what they need to address being that they cost half of a house.
I’m about to pick up a new truck in a few days. With winter just around the corner, Fluid Film will be done soon. I’m glad that Eric O on South Main Auto turned me onto it. Last fall I applied FF to my wife’s Jeep.
Tbh the wax is still the best of the bunch. Working in the rust belt, I always prefer a 10 year old gm to similarly aged ram or Ford. GM seems to use a higher grade fastener. Yeah, the wax is semi permanent. The frames on the 2500hds tend to outlast the body even when the coating is gone. You can always reapply it, or apply undercoating, fluid film, nh oil etc
The one small feature that I really like on my 22 High Country 3500 SRW LB, if you are towing with the Tow Haul turned on, and shut down for fuel, to eat or whatever, if you start up within 4 hours, the Tow Haul is still active. I had a 2006 SLT 3500, I pulled a 5th wheel to Alaska and back to Florida, and was stopping for fuel 5 and 6 times a day (you don't want to pass an open fuel stop), and a couple times I forgot to turn the Tow Haul back on and the transmission temp would climb. I had an 18 Denali Dually and you had to turn it back on also. The 2022 High Country 3500 SRW is the best by far of the 3 Duramax trucks that I've owned. All were LB, the Dually was good for towing but not very good for shopping trips etc. I really liked your review
Just an FYI, I have a GMC Sierra AT4 3500, and it came with a tiny fuel tank. You can drop on a Titan fuel tank for much greater range. My 36-gallon fuel tank was anemic when pulling my 42-foot fifth wheel, so I dropped in a 56 gallon. You can go larger with your 8 foot bed...
Funny you should mention the Tow/Haul mode. My F150 tells me every time I start it that I have a trailer attached but I have to manually change drive modes. Quite a small but rather annoying technology gap.
Fog lights are designed for foggy conditions and bright lights in fog are counter active for visibility. It is actually a smart feature. If you have fog lights on it assumes it is foggy and thus prevent the high beams from automatically coming on and making it harder to see (if it was foggy)
I just bought a 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 hd ltz and I have to say that they must have watched your video. 98% of all your negative features have been corrected. ( LOL). That being said, they still haven’t added inside lighting and the sunroof. But everything else seems to be corrected. If you’re ready to upgrade… find a GM employee or retiree to get a “friends and family “ discount. It definitely helps to get the price down on a truck with a lot of options. Great job on the UA-cam videos. I was considering the same 5th wheel camper.
After I wash my 2020 2500HD I just raise the hood to get rid of the water because I'm to lazy to drill a hole where the water collects, but there are UA-cam videos on how and where to do it. If you read the owners manual (which you obviously have not) you'll see how to get the outside temp on the instrument cluster. It's in a sub menu using the selector switch on the right side of the steering wheel. You can select time, outside temp, or direction (North, South, East or West) if memory serves. I will have 100,000 miles on my High Country by the end of the week and aside from normal maintenance I've only had to replace the coolant overflow bottle due to a bad sensor. Best truck I've ever owned by far. Take care of it and you'll be happy for many years to come. The one thing I wish I would have gotten sooner is the Banks Derringer with the Idash. Check it out when you get a chance. Happy Truckin.
I have an LTZ. I see in the submenu where I can check and uncheck the box for the compass on the driver information center. It is the only option, in that submenu. There is no option for temp (only compass) which is already displayed on the HUD and on all 3 navigation apps (GM, Apple Maps and Waze). So, I can get the compass displayed in 3 locations but the temp is only displayed by exiting out of CarPlay. With that said, another commenter says there is a new software update that among other things addresses the AutoHigh Beams and Driving Light issue. I've yet to take it in for that but maybe they've added the temp function into the LTZ trim submenu as you describe. And FYI, I read the manual cover to cover when i got the truck and have since reviewed the specific section you reference based on your comments. It's just not in there on my model! I'm an electrical automation programmer/specialist and work with PLC's and VFD's everyday....I know how to get thru menus. Have begun the research on the Banks products but life is VERY busy. Will probably be a while before I get around to it. Thanks for the comments!
21:38 The heads-up display does work with Polarized sunglasses. I have two pairs (Oakley & Ray-Ban) and both work with the heads-up display on our 2020 2500HD High Country.
I have a High country. It came with Upfitter Switches mounted on the lower dash panel. The wiring harness for the switches comes on the floor of the back seat. Turns out installation is not included. Some Assemble Required.
Awesome review of the truck! I have a 2021 3500 High Country and I am very happy with it other than the brakes, they flat out suck and had a recall on the rear pads which still didnt resolve it! But I am surprised you do not like the LED lights, I think they are great! Especially when you need forward light or rear light when parked in a field. Also, with that big of a truck, add a train horn like I did, people will know you are coming and get out of the way! The bluetooth in this truck is awesome, even has a microphone above the passenger side which can be helpful at times. Im at 35k and still learning little tricks on the software side and having a ton of fun driving this truck. I prefer it over my Ram 3500 Dually which I work out of most of the time! Keep on rolling and let us know what else you find as you go!
I have a 2021 and i absolutely HATE the lights. I am so sick off playing the flash game with aholes in little cars. I would take the old school bulbs just so im not annoyed anymore😡 95k on it
@@ips7125 I always roll around with my fog lights on as well, you would think that these people would know that 99% of the vehicles out there cannot use the fog lights when the bright lites are on! Just flash em back, I get a kick out of it!!! Thinking about adding the old floor mounted step on bright light button out of my 68 Chevy for quicker response time! 🤣
A lot of what you discussed is why I bought a 2018 Ram 2500 Cummins 6.7. I could not be happier but there are a few things that must be done to get the full life out of the truck. That goes for any recent diesel pickup.
2017 ram 2500 diesel is literally the best vehicle I've ever owned. Was a fool to sell it and upgrade to the new body style. Like the new truck but I absolutely loved that 17 model.
Thanks for the video. I was going to buy one of these trucks but just couldn’t put my head around buying some thing I couldn’t see or test drive. After watching this video I am so happy that I didn’t order one and wait six months to a year for it.
They're on the lots now and actually starting to offer some rebates and discounts off of MSRP. Might wait another couple of months to see what Joe's latest moves are but I bet inventory will be up even more!
@@oldguyobservations8724 Since this video I’ve done some homework and I have seen that. I’m actually gonna wait to buy a new truck. Maybe even a year or two. You never know what the future is going to bring??? 😁
Thank you for talking about the Chevy Silverado. I just got a 12000 mile 2021 3500 Z-71 HD ( none duel rear) i had to have 8 foot bed. I have always bought Ford pickups. Very happy with this 1 Ton. Like you said with Duramax Allison the freeway milage none towing blows me away. I have the best mileage recorded on the dash. My wife got 31.7 MPG on down hill of a mountain pass. The big trackson tires on it, I will buy those tires again. The nouse is so small inside. We got a big Dog seat cover for back. The clip on straps to headrest is wonderful for keeping it coving all the back seat. And the cable leash snaps into seatbelts. The small back window is just perfect for his head to stick out. The great bed steps use them every time i get in bed, great idea Chevy. Ford just started doing bed steps in 2023. The camera down angle to hitch is great, with the two other backup camera controls for backing.
Love the video, it’s crazy to see the comments about the brake recalls. I am a production supervisor for the rear axle assembly plant and GM will only use one supplier for their brakes. They buy them and send them to us when we assemble them.
Just purchased my 2500HD Duramax Chevy yesterday. A lot of time researching about getting the gasser or diesel. I figured I have a RV trailer now, if I get diesel, I will no longer struggle going uphill with my 18 1500 at 4MPG at 45 MPH with the little 5.3 screaming. Awesome truck, LT w/z-71 package, although I was not wanting Z-71, but its what they had in stock. This motor is a beast. Mine is the Blue with black interior. Lots of features for LT, (basically ALL-Star package). Plenty of what I want. Dealership was awesome. I know its not the best time to buy, but, I wanted/needed a 2500 that can pull an RV.
I owned a 2020 2500 one issue I had was when I traveled behind like a garbage truck the smell would make its way into the truck. I double checked to ensure the vent was closed and even had the operation checked. everything was functional and operating correctly. My 2007 chevy suburban kept out smells but he the 2020 2500HD could not keep the smell out. One other time a car was stepping on the gas and the hight performance of the car expelled excessive exhaust smell and yes you guessed it the smell made its way into the truck and the vents was set to circulate interior air. There was an area where there was a control burn same situation and the smell made it's way into the truck. The smell of diesel fumes from other trucks would make its way into the cab of the truck as well. This was one of my major gripes. It became such an issue I had thought about trading it in and getting the 2023 - 2024 model in hopes that they indirectly fixed it. no one has complained about this and Chevy did not have nothing on record about this complaint either. Once while travelling from North Carolina to Arizona my Map kept having me make Uturns on the high way. I had to take my phone out to verify my location and direction. Only happened once. I enjoyed my truck like you. I added a gun safe, bed cap from Leer, brighter light bulbs for high beam and low beams. I was going to add, under seat storage in the back seat, and decked storage system for the truck bed.
my 2020 been at the dealer for 3 months with 15 ,000 miles heater in def tank went bad and none availible no loaner and no way to pull my trailer nice job gm
Gary, my son uses a term..."super sucks". That's all I can say about that!! I sure hope they get it back on the road, pronto for you. I've honestly never heard of that issue before. I'd be losing my mind and probably calling Mary Barra (GM chairman). Good luck to you!!
Mine did the same it was actually a corroded contact on the plug to the heater close to the tank . Dealer tech took it apart cleaned it and is working fine now while I’m also waiting for a replacement tank . 2020 2500HD with 40 K here in Canada
I know you said how much you like your new Chevy, that said it sure seems to me you should have bought a Ram with the Cummins engine since most of your comparisons are of your wife's Ram? Great video, very well done sir.
Are you married Patriot? If you are, you know you can't have a nicer vehicle than your wife! Ironically, we have a '22 Tahoe High Country on order with 3.0 diesel on order now...
@youtubecantsaveallthesnowflakes 238,000 on my 2007. Just don’t like belt driven oil pump. Especially having to pull transmission to inspect it at 150k.
I had a 1999 GMC 3/4 ton Suburban with a 454. Loved it but the brakes and steering sucked. Scary driving wife and kids on roads in West Virginia. Did they make that better in 2022?
This vehicle is EXTREMELY competent. So much so that I tend to forget I'm in an 8200lb vehicle. Great vehicle. I think these will be remembered as the glory days of diesel trucks!
Add the boost mobile car charger to the center console, also Banks has a lot out for these trucks now and they make the truck Soooo much better, derringer, pedal monster, and idash really wake these trucks up. The banks rear diff cover with amsoil is a must as well. I'm up to 17 mpg with a 12k toy hauler behind me. Go bilstein for the shocks when the ranchos bleed out at 25k. And add aire ride suspension in the back for squat and then it will pull like a dream. Agree on the interiors GM interiors are not great like you said a 98 although I think that's generous I would say 75% for 70k n up come on. Anyway great review. Thanks keep on trucking God bless TX.
I just don’t think I could buy a modern diesel truck these days. Aside from the increase in diesel costs as of late, all of the upkeep when parts start breaking just isn’t worth it to me. Not to mention all of the emissions crap that just restricts these engines, I’ll take the naturally aspirated 6.2L.
Leaving power on to the 110volt power supply could potentially cause charging issue to the battery particularly during short drives. It’s just good energy management. Have you tried adjusting the headlights angle for better illumination of the road. That can change depending on your load. Perhaps with an empty bed your lights are adjusted too high?
Well, y’all gonna hate me but I picked up the new refreshed 2022 Silverado with the 2.7L. It’s been pretty good. I plan on keeping it for a bit, then getting the 6.2L Trail Boss. I’ll leave the 4 banger to the wife. However, the 430 torque is nice.
I am a GM person but you should research lifter failure with the 5.3 and the 6.2. They have similar problems as Ram has with the 5.7 and especially the 6.4. The multi-displacement issue is causing people to lose engines. I would look for a V8 that doesn’t have MDS
@@Greg-s5v if they(new gm)are all missing chips to disable cylinders? Wouldn’t it be best to just leave this out? & see how it runs (as a motor should) on all cylinders?
@@brentm7213 I’m not the expert but I would think yes, it would be better. Manufacturers are being forced to chase MPGs and I feel it’s creating design flaws on otherwise good engines.
I agree that the temperature display is annoying, there is plenty of room for them to put it on the display, but I've grown used to hitting the home button and back to apple carplay after i see the temp, at least it doesn't turn off the apple carplay
You are spot on. I traded a 2018 Tundra for this truck and was used to the Adaptive Cruise Control and figured by 2022 everyone would know the wonders of Adaptive Cruise Control. I was extremely disappointed when I found out it did not have ACC. 6.6 L turbo diesel 450 HP 910 LB FT of torque. Got to 100 M.P.H. in a flash and the accelerator went dead. WTH!
Love my truck but how could not mention the extremely large hood that you can't see over. I'm 6'4" and bump things in parking lots because they were so hidden by the large front end.
I just ordered a 2023 High Country 2500HD. It is supposed to have adaptive cruise, we shall see. I was hoping for a refresh, but I don’t believe it will happen, maybe 23.4 definitely 2024. Coming up on 150k in my 2011 F250 which is in pristine condition on the outside and interior, but showing her age under the hood. Little stuff, so it’s time. Sadly Ford wants MSRP+. The Chevy with fleet discount is under MSRP. So Chevy it is at least for a couple of years. Won’t see the truck til August.
I’m wanting LTZ Z71 2500 but trying to wait for the refresh. I’ve heard end of 22 but I’ve also heard 2024. May get a refreshed 1500 LTZ Z71 until then
The external temperature displaying on the screen with CarPlay is an issue with Apple. I use Android Auto and by default that is disabled as well. You have to go into the Android Auto settings and enable that option... The auto starting of the last audio selection should work just fine. This is my 5th silverado and they all performed that function just fine from the factory. I just got my 2022 3500 LTZ and this truck works just fine with whatever the last selection was.
Thanks Matt, you're saying your music plays after you've done a remote start? You've actually tried that cuz my dealer told me I have the most current software in my truck.
@@oldguyobservations8724 yes it does, but also I use Android auto and those are all settings that I cane enable/disable via Android auto. So maybe apple carplay either doesn't support it or there is a setting you need to adjust
The android auto temperature readout doesn't come from the truck but rather weather data based on location. My audio plays just fine after a remote start.
I have a 2022 High Country. Totally agree with your comments about the issues. No adaptive cruise control, frustrating about the windshield wipers and no sunroof close for rain detection. It also really frustrates me the Navigation cancels if AirPlay directions pop on. Also, why can’t heads up display show airplay turn by turn directions. Overall the truck is great, lots of power and fun to drive for the size.
I was thinking the same thing. Just bought a 2023 Denali 2500 Ultimate today. Don’t even possession yet. My 1500 AT4 diesel 3.0L I6 and it is optioned like a Denali and has adaptive cruise. Soon as I saw this tonight, I went and looked up the window sticker on the new Denali, and sure enough has all the other safety tech , but says it has that distance monitor, but no mention of adaptive cruise. All I can say is wow, never even thought to look for it. It been on about all my vehicles built in the past 4-5 years . This has been a great review. Lots of info not see/heard anywhere else. Well done!
Great review. I just picked up a 2500 High Country down here in south FL. Buying experience was lame. When I asked the twenty something sales guy if it had adaptive cruise he said yes this truck has everything accept a sun roof. I Figured out it didn’t have adaptive cruise before I stroked the check. Time will tell. Thanks for the heads up!
@@itsshadowuser9536 Well always a tough question. If you’re towing during that 100 mile commute, then I’d say it’s a no-brainer….go diesel. If it’s just a commute, then find a gasser.
@@oldguyobservations8724 it’d be a mix going into the snow plowing buisness during winter so idk if the weight of the plowing head would be considered towing bc it’d be attached to the front
Sunroof may be a structural issue of a 2500hd truck - the bigger the hole, the less structural it is, especially off road. 120V - it's not a house and out in the weather - if water was to enter into the outlet then.....
Hi again handsome. The quiteness. Nice job. The diesel fuel cost is $4800.00 per 10,000 Miles. Not bad. I want a big vechile, I want that Cadillac floating feeling plus the Lexus super quite cabin.
I have a 2012 Chevy LML 2500 with 210K miles. The day after i bought it, i stripped off the exhaust and tuned it with and H&S tuner. This truck has been the best vehicle i have ever owned. I get about 20 mpg on the highway so I couldn't ask for more. Plus mine makes about twice amount the horsepower as yours.
That’s the point. My truck is 10 years old and should last another 10 with upkeep in the interior. How can EVs be better for the environment? They won’t last as long, they need minerals that are mined and the power comes from coal. My diesel truck only costs like 10k max per year. That’s peanuts to me. EVs are just the next governmental scam. The future of vehicles lies in either hydrogen or nuclear. EVs are just a scam to payoff China and you are falling for it.
You just confirmed to me to move from my old GMC to a F250 yes a Ford Lariat vs the 2500 they have just cut to many corners along with the Navigation is not available on many of them
So, I really can't remember exactly anymore but I think I mentioned, when trying to build an "apples to apples" truck between Ford and Chevy, the Ford was a bit more than $6,000 higher than the Chevy. It's not exactly apples to apples because of package content but it was pretty darn close. Point is that the Chevy was a lot less expensive for the same basic truck with options. Yes, Ford has more power but not really a factor for me. I think the best "value" is the Chevy (over Ford and Ram) but some of the little to no cost areas that they cut seems pointless to me (software changes cost essentially nothing and other areas).
Mirrors look like T-Rex arms coming out of the door. I prefer the previous style of being mounted above the door near the window vs below the window on the door. The new lower mounting design does eliminate a blind spot which is nice.
Great review..interesting what you said about the heads up display, I wear Costa polarized lenses and have no problem seeing the display, do you have the brightness turned up? Also your rearview camera zoom/brightness is adjustable. Thanks for the video!
Great review - from another old dood. On my 5th Duramax, have a 2020 High Country. Ordering a 2024 as soon as the order will be accepted. - had to order non-polarized Oakley's - dislike the rearview tech pkg. Old style mirror is fine. Video screen mirror is just weird. - Adaptive cruise / Sun Roof / Speed sensitive wipers / footwell lights - no need for me at all. - Floor mats, get the new style GM fitted mats. They are perfect & don't budge. Exceptional truck with spectacular towing & load capabilities. Which ultimately what it is used for... Tech stuff in vehicles is getting stoopid. We all need to return to analog. My2cents. Horn is ridiculous.
Yep! The 2024's are gonna be awesome and address the chintzy interior issues. I will say, I'm 99% sure I've bought my last vehicle and I'm very happy with it.
Had a L5P with over 115k miles and never turned a bolt, other than maintenance. Started out with coolant leak which took 4 trips to fix and after that, which started at 100 miles new, nothing wrong. I did change to a cool air intake and it improved it a lot. I have several videos on being in extreme cold (South Dakota)and living in Florida hot. I loved my truck. But moved back to Yukon. After I changed to cold air intake my mileage went up to 22mpg.
I heard that too. Mine came off the line in late September which is SUPPOSEDLY before the problems. My VIN is not part of the repair/replace going on. We will see!
@@brettjohnson1393 mine is the 5.3 hers is the 6.0 and both gas i got the 5.3 cuz I wanted e85 but both of these trucks have been crap since day one so either buy a 2022 cuz chevy stopped with the V8 V4 fuel saver crap so the engines won't have that problem anymore.
First off let me start by thanking you for taking the time to make this video. I’ve owned a very large amount of land cruisers, Range Rovers, Yukons and multiple heavy duty diesels and the one thing I’d have to say right off the bat is that you’ll NEVER get out of a decked out heavy duty what you’ll get out of a loaded out SUV or Sedan. My last GM Diesel was a 2018 LTZ and loved it but as usual I’m spoiled and switch vehicles to often due to gotta have the next best thing. Point is, I’ve never come across a heavy duty offering identical passenger suv/sedan like options BUT that being said, the 2023 heavy duty’s will be coming out with new and much more powerful diesels and the (I believe) 2023-2024’s with have newly updated interiors as well with more features that you’d be looking for. The 2023 1500 diesels will be completely upgraded with more power too which I’d recommend switching to unless of course you’re pulling or hauling a large Trailer/RV. Btw, no matter how loaded out my vehicles have been there’s always going to be “wish it had this or that” moment. Good luck and God Bless!
If I don't tow, I get 19.5mpg. When towing both my bumper pull landscaping trailer or surprisingly our 5000lb 5th wheel I'm at about 14mpg. I use the "trip 2" function as my oil trip monitor. I've got about 4600 miles on my current oil change and it's reading 18.4 right now with about 600-650 miles of towing during that 4600 miles....just an FYI
I think it was a great review and learned a few things that no one else has mentioned like the rear view mirror. I would now drop that from the option list because of my glasses. I had considered a half ton but when pricing it the HD’s are only a few thousand more and the trucks are so much more capable.
Yep. I would not order technology package again. And, that gets you even closer to the 1500 price. It all helps justify the price for the 2500 in my head....ha ha.
I ordered the tech package for the heads up display. The camera mirror is just a bonus. But I don't expect to be able to use it with my quad in my bed since the camera is on the cab. But I'll have to wait and see.
So on your 120v inverter power - here's why they shut that off. Inverters are inefficient, they draw about 30w of power in standby (nothing plugged in). At 12v (battery voltage) that's a decent drain for more than a couple of hours. 30w @ 12v is about 3amps draw per hour at 12v battery voltage. After 10 hours that's 30A of draw. Most of these trucks only have a "Group 48" battery with a total of 60-70A of capacity. So if you were to leave your inverter on full-time, that 3A per-hour draw could drain your battery in a day. I had to install a second battery in my Tahoe to accommodate some of my tech (including an inverter) because of that.
@@oldguyobservations8724 happy to help. Thanks for the honest reviews! I’m searching for an L5P Duramax 2500 myself. I’ve got a new 22’ Winnebago and the Tahoe does just “ok”. I think I’m ready to upgrade to a 3/4 ton. So every bit of information helps me too. 👍🏻
I operate a wrecker and came here to get information on this truck for servicing,(towing). After listening to this guy whine about his 80k truck that simply transports people from point “a” to “b”, similar to a base model work truck for half of what he paid, my stomach is queasy. Who are we? I wish him only peace and happiness. He is us. Who are we?
I sure get a kick out of people talking about their New Way Overpriced Chevrolet Trucks. I have a 2008 1500 Silverado Work Truck. Single Cab with the 4.8 litre V8. Automatic Transmission Cruise Control and Air Conditioning. This Truck only has 61,000 on it. It is only used for towing my 16ft Jon Boat or moving furniture or awkward sized loads. It has no surface Rust on it and it is 14 and a half years old. When it had 5,000 miles on it during a road trip into upper MN. At highway speeds it was getting 20.66 miles per gallon. New trucks cannot touch that kind of fuel Milage with out all kinds of Fancy Tech. If I was in charge of any of the Big Three Turck Makers I would be embarrassed to Tout anything about my New Vehicle's. Wake Up People!!!! $45,000 to $80,000 for a Pickup Truck. That is INSANE!!!!!!! But to each his own I guess.
You know, you're probably right. I didn't do a great job with that but my point was that I believe most people would expect a 1/2 ton truck to get better mileage than the 3/4 ton. In my specific case, the Ram 1/2 ton weighs 1900lbs less, has the eTorque mild hybrid system and has multi-cylinder displacement and gets 15mpg versus the Chevy's almost 20mpg. The 3/4 ton gets about 30% better mileage.
For sure! I'm just not usually concerned about the rain blow-back after the truck is already dirty. I think this will probably get addressed in a refresh.
Side view mirrors block significant side field of view. Thanks for an informative video. The side view mirrors on my 2016 Silverado Duramax are good as mirrors however, in my opinion, they are the worst feature of the truck because at intersection or parking areas when I need to see through the side window, a big portion of the view is obstructed by the mirrors. I adjusted the driver's seat all the up till my head was at the ceiling but it's impossible to see over the giant mirrors. I wish they would rotate to landscape as I need to see pedestrians and cross traffic, not the sky.
I thought he would surely mention the fact that the visibility out of these trucks is absolutely horrendous. They’re great for going down the highway but terrible for maneuvering around things.
Thanks for your observations. I agree with most as an owner of a 2020 2500 Gas 6.6L version, lots to love with this new design and brother-in-law who just purchased a 3500 gas unit and loves his too, especially the noticeable increased power over his 2015 6.0L gas. Yes, if GM could simply add a few dollars or use those more wisely it would be towards seat comfort. One gripe for me (and my wife) are the seats; dam hard seats. No where as comfortable as our former Ram truck seats in which we could drive for 5 hours straight without butt fatigue or soreness. Now after two hours, they’re truly uncomfortable especially when you dial in the fact that an HD truck is stiffer in many ways. I’ve purchased a gel pad for each front seat to help with this. But hey, I’ve found GM vehicle seats from way back into the ‘80’s to be of “poor” comfort, support and reliability. Take care from Edmonton (Oilers country LOL). Robert
I just returned from a test drive, first thing I noticed were the uncomfortable seats! Second was the steering wheel didnt have as much adjustment as my Ram 1500 Tradesman. Interior on the 2500 Silverado LT was real nice. The 6.6L with Allison trans is what I'm most interested in; haven't owned a Chevy in 20 years but Ram and Ford HD trucks are priced outta sight :(
@@quicktoevil what I can say speaking for myself is I wouldn’t disqualify a vehicle simply because of one feature that I wished was easily better and speaking of GM seats, maybe one simply has to contact an upholsterer who can make life all the better as one sits on new cushion material while behind the windshield. At least seats are something fairly simple to optimize compared to other things. As an update on operation of my gas engine version, the engine with its 6 spd. runs and sounds buttery smooth. Happy thus far.
@@nhlcfl7733 ... this 2024 had the 10spd Allison otherwise not much has changed? I need to drive it again; salesman and I added gas then a trip around the block; ten minutes behind the wheel at most. Brakes felt a little soft. Quiet cabin and really well done. I'm not a big guy and no plans to take long road trips so the seats aren't a deal breaker but I noticed them almost immediately. Asking $56k for a regular cab 8' bed Silverado LT but I expect that to come down.
If you took the time to actually educate yourself on function of the truck which is pretty standard on all gm lines. There is a console organizer from, gm. There are better floor mats, your biggest pet peeve is the wipers? You havent figured out how to hit the audio button so your full screen shows the xm artist and song? PS you can adjust the mirror so its view is closer or further away. And the radio should play from a remote start. C mon man
Honestly, im not a fan of adaptive cruise control. You're correct. It is made to keep a food distance. People get in that zone, and the vehicle slows down drastically. I have it kn my toyota. I never use it for that reason. I think it's the nature of adoptive cruise control on any vehicle.
My 2022 Ford Lariat Diesel has the same short comings. It doesn't even automatically adjust the headlight depending on load on the rear axle. One has to manually adjust the headlights with a screwdriver or otherwise blind upcoming traffic when towing. This on a vehicle that is designed to tow!
Have to get a 1500 my 2021 hybrid has projector headlights that turn and self level. Don't know why Ford doesn't give super duties these great options.
We've got a lightweight fiberglass 5th wheel (5500gvwr- Escape 5.0). If memory serves me, the tongue weight is about 625lbs and with some other junk, I think we are probably under 850 in the bed with that. I know lots of people go to aftermarket airbags and if I consistently towed heavy loads at night, I would probably go that route. As of now, my landscaping material (heavy stuff) has all been during the day.
This might be a loaded question but I am about to buy a predawn 2021 0r 2022 denial HD. Does anybody know what type of concerns you might have with the truck going to 200 to 250K miles. Im thinking to keep it a long time.
just bought a 2022 HD2500 and the passenger foot well drives me nuts, since my 2018 HD2500 didn't have them either. The floor mats slide all over the place. I'm still getting to know all the new interior tech compared to my 2018.
Did you consider an F-250 at all? I’m in the market for a super duty at the moment and am pretty dead set on an F-250 6.7L Diesel. I play around with the thought of getting a GMC/Chevy 2500 or a Ram 2500 but I can’t get myself over the interior of the GM trucks as they seem very dated. Biggest gripe with RAM is the sloppy steering they have.
In a similar boat as you but ill be hauling cross country. 2500 lt duramax or ford f250 super duty. 4 doors. 4x4. Looking for bare bones around 62k for either truck ive built. Just wondering if you've gotten any further with your purchase.
I am 100% NOT a GM or Ford guy. I knew with eyes wide open about the chintzy interior. I guess you've got to ask if the cost difference is worth it to you . For me, the touch points (seats and steering wheel) were fine and I actually think the Chevy steering wheel and overall steering feel/feedback is the best among the 3. Just my 2 cents. Buy the Ford if your heart is set on it!!
Also Your dealer took it out when it got delivered, LTZ come with the console organizer insert buddy . They tried to pull a fast one with my high country
I usually watch tfl truck, and mr truck but it seems all they do is show you how much their truck can tow almost had me sold on the f250 7.3 gas. Im waiting on the gmc sierra
Well thanks! TFL is a big comparison but I agree with you that they are a great data point for towing info. I just tried to state things that I was not aware of despite watching many, many youtube videos. It just seemed to me that "real world" info was not readily available. Good luck on the upcoming Sierra. My brother is also waiting for one!
My issue w/many YT reviews are by owner who “like to be seen in a truck” but have no need for a truck therefore they don’t report what I expect. I want a review from owners who always had a truck & can’t live w/o a truck. So IMO e.g., TFL in reality only provide limited impressions.
@@danniecurlett8702 I am not brand loyal in any way. I did my honest and best effort to compare apples to apples between the big 3. Basically, I tried to choose similar trim and then add in features to make them as "equal" in terms of content as possible. The Ford was basically $6K more and the Ram was just under $4K more. Yes, I know both the Ford and Ram have more BHP and TQ but 445 and 910 is enough for me. So, despite my whining about the $76K sticker, it was actually less than the competition (in my eyes!).
Hmmm....it is heavy and pulls like a freight train. By that I mean a seamless pull of power as opposed to a peak and valley pull from a gas engine. Hope your happy with your truck now!!
One of you guys let me know when you find that absolutely perfect anything will you? Hard seats for one person is not for another. If GM had made them softer, then someone would be complaining they're too soft. In one sentence he's complaining about not having adaptive cruise control and in the next sentence he's complaining about adaptive cruise control leaving to big a gap between him and the next car, and putting on the brakes too much. NO VEHICLE IS PERFECT.
Well, that is really a tough one. I really like the Rams. I think 2 things really pushed me to the Chevy. 1) I just couldn't get over the 6-speed and yes, I know it's a diesel with ton's of torque but 10 gears is really more modern. 2) was pricing. I did my best to build apples to apples trucks (which is tough due to different options being included as standards or in packages on each truck) but I really kept coming back to the Ram being about $4K more. The Ram clearly has more torque if that's important to you but 910ft. lbs. is and always will be enough for me. Can't go wrong with either one!
@@oldguyobservations8724 I haven’t got to text drive a Chevy or gmc but I do like the ram and the ford is just meh to me I like the chevys body but I’ve heard that they’ve had some problems later on in their life’s
Ok, Like your review is good but the high beam and fog lights is a safety feature. In fog your supposed turn off you high beams because they reflect the light making it harder to see. Your fog lights are faced downward to prevent that but get you more lighting. of course they would keep both from happening!!!!
You missed his point. When you have low beams on with fogs and manually turn on the high beams and then back to low beams, the dogs come back on. This will NOT work when the auto-high beams are engaged. Basically, you can dogs on OR auto-high beam engaged but NOT both. I’m frustrated by the same issue!
Adaptive cruise control should be in your truck if your salesperson clicked the box with the other safety alarms etc. If you're not happy with it you can probably get what you paid for it and a little bit more. Sadly even smaller suppliers had to shut down during COVID-19 and mostly at different times. and that's from software to hardware items including cable ties, washers, shrink tubing and even lights and yes all lights don't come from the same place
@@sgbradley Well, GM must’ve stopped the production line and added it just for you. You should consider selling yours, because you have a VERY special and unique, 1-off!!!
@@hughjardon5952 I just looked up my dealer and last year it's said chips were hard to get for the 2500 that's why you probably don't have heated rear seats or USB sockets in the backseat. Heads-up display is the only way to tell if you have it or not in Canada

Hello Frank, Glad you liked it! Pretty rough on my first attempt...ha! I actually purchased it at John Elway Chevrolet. When I originally placed the order in 2021 they were still part of the Costco Auto program. By the time the truck came in, they had not renewed their 2022 membership but they made good on it. They took $2,500 off of sticker and gave my me the Blue Book trade on my Ford Fusion which had actually increased from early 2020 of $10.4 to $15.5 by October of 2021....go figure and crazy times!!
So smart that its dumb. I agree with all your observations and its kind of sad really. Finally a useful review rather than basing everything on 3 seconds difference on the ike gauntlet.
Yep! I will never push my truck or any of my equipment to their extreme ratings. I figure if you're bumping up against a piece of equipments limits, you should have bought the next size up. Just my personal thoughts and opinion.
Wow. I wish I could afford a 76000 diesel. The little things you complain about is amazing . Trivial things I would buy a Chevy or gmc over ram any day . I learned my lesson on the ram pickup . I will never own another one
Great info in video. I have a 2021 Chevy 2500HD LT with the duramax. Love this truck. So strong and fun to drive. I hadn't noticed the absence of the floor lights until you mentioned it. I will get me some LED Rock lights and hook them up to the dome light fuse in panel and mount them under the dash. Should be easy fix. Mine came with the Halogen headlights and I plan on replacing with LED's. There is a youtube video on how the get your fog lights to stay on with high beams that I saw a while back. A company makes a plug and play harness that will let it do this. Can't remember the company, but it is in the video.
Well, thanks for the feedback. I think I was just trying to make the point that these "fixes" should not have to be done on a $76K truck. All that said, I was and still am extremely happy with the truck!
I have a 2022 High Country K3500 and mine absolutely does have adaptive cruise control. I actually turned it off because it would slow me down in the right lane. But it definitely does have it.
Larry, I don't know what to say. If you say it does then it does. Maybe it was available for a period of time on High Country's but there are several comments here about people being frustrated that they thought it would or should have it and then theirs did not. Glad you've got it and I really only find it useful in bumper to bumper and slow congestion. Thanks for the comment!

10% of a house here in ca
Some cost as much as our houses lol

I’m sure he meant Driving Lights which ARE intended to be used to help light the road under ALL conditions.
@@hughjardon5952 No it's high beams. I have the same truck
Yes I love vehicles that you can run just thebfog lights. A lot of them make you run the low beams at the same time..

Thanks West. Hope you're still happy with the Denali!
I have a High country. It came with Upfitter Switches mounted on the lower dash panel. The wiring harness for the switches comes on the floor of the back seat. Turns out installation is not included. Some Assemble Required.
Yep. I was aware of that during the ordering process. I agree that the harness should be installed and cable tied up behind the dash somehow.

Great screen name.
to power the 110v outlet you need a converter, and a converter draws power if left on.
I wouldn’t have thought to expect any of those features in a truck. I think I’m living in the past a bit.
I’m curious to see all of the new features. My trade is a 2012 WT, so it’s as basic as they come. It even still has crank windows.

Good luck with lifter failures then.
6.0 or 6.6 gas engines are a better choice than the 6.2L

My audio plays just fine after a remote start.
im sure theirs after market wire harness to use fog lights with running lights and high beams my camaro has it so all work at same time
Rear view has angle adjust and zoom feature with higher trim.
Well done!
The thing that is still surprising to me is that virtually every salesperson says it has it. Amazing!
I'm still pretty darn happy with mine.
My only problem is the mirrors are so large they can obstruct your vision outside. Especially at intersections.
Good luck to you! I'm very happy with mine. Hope I offered some useful info.
i would think that with the towing capacity of these bigs trucks the cruise control u speak about could be a bad thing
I have a 2015.5 duramax. It’s deleted and tuned and I get 24 mpg. Great truck.
Gonna be buying one of these used for the winter I drive 100miles round trip should I stick with gas or go diesel which one would be cheaper long term
Very glad to hear you've had a great experience! Hope there's another 210K miles in front of you!!
Hm why I don’t get 19mpg ?
So far 12 mpg at 8.3k miles first oil change at6k
- had to order non-polarized Oakley's
- dislike the rearview tech pkg.
Ours at work is super plush but all kinds of stuff in the cab is starting shake and rattle, super annoying.
Well at 12,000 miles (now). Mine is still pretty tight. Fingers crossed.
I thought I heard the new GM trucks were having engine and transmission problems?
I heard that too. Mine came off the line in late September which is SUPPOSEDLY before the problems. My VIN is not part of the repair/replace going on. We will see!
Yes I have one and so does my wife. My wife is on her 2nd engine at 20k miles and my lifters have been rebuilt once already at 30k.

It's because you don't buy ram. Rams come loaded like a Mercedes or BMW.
Tough to talk to Ram guys....ha ha ha
My 2019 High Country Serius radio screen shows Artist as well as the name of the song.
Never had that issue with the audio following a remote start.
19 mpg? I have a 1/2 ton with the 6.2 and am lucky if I get 15.5, and that is driving at 70 mph on flat straight roads in south TX.
Hey, are you doing another review on this truck. I mean, I have been waiting.
Split mirrors are great for a dozen reasons blindspots idiots charging you etc
You can turn that feature off and just use it as a regular rear view mirror. That’s what I have done with mine.
I ordered the tech package for the heads up display. The camera mirror is just a bonus. But I don't expect to be able to use it with my quad in my bed since the camera is on the cab. But I'll have to wait and see.
I Love the rearview mirror camera, one of my favorite features in the truck, game changer
Enjoyed the review. As I've always said, the fancier the gadgetry, the more there is to go wrong! I really like the very basic trucks!
Thanks for the comment, Patrick. I think they have 5 trim levels. Basic to loaded.
Hey, thanks for the explanation! That actually makes sense. Lowers my level of frustration...ha.
Can the tailgate lower when the the truck loses power? Disconnect the negative power cable to see if it can.
I operate a wrecker and came here to get information on this truck for servicing,(towing). After listening to this guy whine about his 80k truck that simply transports people from point “a” to “b”, similar to a base model work truck for half of what he paid, my stomach is queasy. Who are we?

Yep. I still very happy with mine as well.
I love listening to people crying about their old little trucks😂😂
Did they fix the transmission gear indicator so that you can see it in all display modes? All other Chevy I could only see it when in mph mode
Light in the glove box? Light under the hood? Gas tank door plastic or metal?
Great review. Thank you!!!!
How can you compare a new diesel truck to a older Hemi gas truck. My 2003 Cummins gets 23.6 on the highway. 8800 pnds crewcab dually.
Z/71 is more than off road tires... The biggest benefit is the limited slip rear end.
I’m sure he’s aware, he was commenting specifically about the road noise he expected from the more aggressive tires that come with the Z/71 pkg
I have a 2500 custom on order, and I looked really closely at what was included. Almost positive these HDs all come with limited slip standard now.
How does it tow trailers and is it really comfortable on long trips thanks
Great review. One of the more useful videos I’ve stumbled upon regarding the topic
Thank you, Nathan! I've got some more stuff to share if life ever slows down.
the HUD on my 2023 ltz works fine with polarized glasses. I fish a lot and have grade A polarized glasses, no issues at all.
Well, if you tilt your head or move it side to side, it will fade in and out.
Not just after car wash. After any rainfall you get the splash or two from the hood scoop.
For sure! I'm just not usually concerned about the rain blow-back after the truck is already dirty. I think this will probably get addressed in a refresh.
Yes..wipe your truck down and then rewash it all over..what a dumb design
Side view mirrors block significant side field of view. Thanks for an informative video. The side view mirrors on my 2016 Silverado Duramax are good as mirrors however, in my opinion, they are the worst feature of the truck because at intersection or parking areas when I need to see through the side window, a big portion of the view is obstructed by the mirrors. I adjusted the driver's seat all the up till my head was at the ceiling but it's impossible to see over the giant mirrors. I wish they would rotate to landscape as I need to see pedestrians and cross traffic, not the sky.
Thanks for the comment. As discussed, I knew a lot of folks had some strong (and justified) opinions.
Very informative in helping me finalize my order, thank you and nice work!
Robert
Thanks Robert! I probably have more of my own padding!!
@@oldguyobservations8724 LOL, yes some of us have more padding and yes it does have its benefits.
C mon man
Are you ever gonna be in Colorado? I could sure use a personal lesson. Have another cold one.

@@mikebryant594 Yeah I’ve used the Velcro in the past but you would think Chevrolet wouldn’t be so tight as to not put them on the passenger side

@@WyLEE08 I just don’t like them prices right now. I was looking at a f250 whew it almost 80k
Thank you I am getting one today. I was wondering about break in period? It feels heavy and slow, does it get better? Thank you

One of you guys let me know when you find that absolutely perfect anything will you?
Hard seats for one person is not for another. If GM had made them softer, then someone would be complaining they're too soft.
In one sentence he's complaining about not having adaptive cruise control and in the next sentence he's complaining about adaptive
cruise control leaving to big a gap between him and the next car, and putting on the brakes too much.
NO VEHICLE IS PERFECT.
You’re completely right
I’m really debating between this and a ram 2500 to haul my camper and ironically I’ll be pulling it to Colorado Springs for work
Well, that is really a tough one.
Adaptive Cruise Control is NOT an option in 2500’s. There is no “box to check”!!

Hello Frank,
Glad you liked it!

I've got a 2020 Chevy regular cab 2500 W/T, I got some cheap LED strip from AutoZone and stuck under dash, they are subtle and useful.
