I didn’t like your video at first because of the camera you used and the angle but I’ve got to tell you that it helped me greatly because I found no other video on the matter at this moment. You saved me a lot of time and work. Thanks.

AllData shows 2.9 hours to replace PCV on a 2013 RAV4 W/2.5 (2AR-FE) engine. With your video and on a hoist, it took maybe 30 minutes. I used a pair of long angle needle nose pliers for hose and a 3/8" drive 24" long extension W/deep 19mm socket. A little electrical tape on the swivel made it just rigid enough to reinstall valve. Thanks for the video!!!

Very informative video, thanks. Might I suggest using a 5" piece of hose placed on the tip of your replacement PCV, as a tool to then spin the PCV into it's threads in the engine. Working blind this is a good method from the bottom of your Rav4 with plenty of lighting. I was successful this way getting my new part attached to the vehicle. I had earlier dropped a PVC behind the intake manifold where I can't retrieve it using a 19 mm socket to put it back on the vehicle. oops

I've been looking for this pcv valve since I bought the car and could never find it or a video that showed me how to do it. Thanks a lot. Today my 2011 scion tc 2.5l will have a new pcv valve and a catch can/oil separator.

Good information on this video. I've got some doubts about my PCV valve but It's a simple device and unless I have some evidence that it's bad I won't change it. And yes, it seems to me that this valve should be on top of the block.

As it turned out, my PCV was fine, just like yours!
I was getting a lot of pressure from the oil filter cap and I thought the PCV was blocked. Guess the previous owner really did take good care of his car and did the oil changes on a regular basis to avoid sludge fouling the PCV.

My 2009 rav4 has over 200k and is burning quite a bit of oil, so I decided to change the pcv to make sure it’s good. Video was helpful, but the hose broke when trying to remove. Thought I was in trouble, didn’t want to deal with the intake. I took some strong string and was able to catch it around the clamp and pulled it off. The hose broke at the end of the pcv, so I was lucky to fit the 19mm socket over the broken hose got it out, whew. Bought some 3/8 hose (about 13 inches long) and was able to get it back together. The clamp is reachable if it’s facing the front of the car. Wasn’t easy but got it done. No thanks on removing the intake…..

I also have a 2009 rav4 with nearly 180k and for the first time I noticed how much oil it burning ..around 2 quarts for about 1000 miles. Did chaining the PCV help your oil consumption to go down?? Thinking I may need to do this job too.

@@kevinquito7947 I would suggest trying to replace it or having it done. My RAV4 does still go thru oil but it does seem to have improved. The old PCV moved around when shaking, but was a little clunky unlike the new one. Good luck.

Thanks for showing how a DIY guy can do this job. The camera angles made me dizzy, but this PCV valve is in such a bad place, you can't help it. Based on comments from other viewers, I'd get a pair of long reach hose piers, deep dish sockets, and a new PCV hose just in case.

Great video. It is same engine as 2014 Camry V4. I have succeed replace a new one. The only difficult thing that is removing the hose wire champ because next the PVC valve area really not much room for my hand. I suggest to move the wire champ all the way to the PCV valve side first then remove the hose. Thanks for your video.

When I put my hose back on, I'm not entirely certain I could push it all the way up to where the hex part begins on the PCV valve. I got the clamp on, but what is the right way to perfectly seat the hose? Am I in trouble if it wasn't able to get high up enough past the barb? Worried, but I won't do this valve replacement again. Way way too much stress threading back on a valve In a spot you can only feel around without sight.

    • @tylersosnowski463
      @tylersosnowski463 3 роки тому

Yes, it went well. Although the PCV valve wasn’t the issue. I found out it’s the throttle body causing my rolling idle. I still haven’t replaced it. Toyota refuses to unless the code pops up. Also it hasn’t gotten worse so I’m not to concerned. Thanks for the video this helped me get the job done in a faster time.

  • @loden888

I just did this job in my driveway with hand tools in 1.5 hours. It's not possible to see what you're doing. You have to do this by hand and feel as "Car Care Nut" said in another video. The clamps are not tight and you can carefully pull the hose off the PCV. I was able to reuse my old hose and the added bonus of it being hardened is that it clips back on the new valve with both sound and feel. Be sure to dab the hose end with a little oil to make it go on easier with the hose clamp in place. Then put the other end of the hose on.

  • @RB-re5es

The valve is much easier to start IF you put a short piece of hose on it. I do the same when replacing spark plugs to prevent cross threading.

Never ever buy generic Pcv valves because oem Pcv valves are calibrated and those Chinese non factory garbage valves will cause a lot of problems in the future like oil leaks because of over pressure in the crankcase especially if you have those gdi engines

Not possible, I’m literally in the process of doing it as I’m typing this, intake manifold MUST BE LOOSENED, you don’t have to pull it out but might as well cus it’s just hanging on the side towards the driver now for me to have room to get the pcv valve, it’s a 19 mm socket, I used a ratchet wreck cus not much space

Oh man this sucks, I thought we have the same engine. My 2010 Camry SE is also a 2ARFE but turns out the damn PCV isn't at the passenger side as shown even if I remove the power steering pump which I wouldn't touch. It looks like the Hayes auto manual is right, the freaking thing is tucked behind the big plastic intake manifold. To remove the fkn manifold, it's going to be bitch cuz I would have to either remove the fuel rail (to lift the manifold out) or cv half shaft (to drop the manifold) through the passenger side then I would have no way of refill my ATF. F toyota!
