      Scotty, I have a 2007 Pontiac Torrent that burns a lot of oil, so I decided to replace the PCV valve, but on this vehicle, the PCV valve doesn't just pull out, there is some kind of bracket holding it in. I've seen some videos on youtube where the bracket holding the pcv is actually riveted to the valve cover. Does that mean that these pcv valves aren't meant to be replaced?

    Daaaaaang Scotty! My 1994 Silverado started burning oil. I love this truck, bought it new and have babied this thing. I grudgingly decided to put her out to pasture.....only has 190k miles but I watched your vid here on pcv valves. I said heck, why not give it a try. Bought a 3 dollar pcv at auto zone and VOILA! No more burning oil!

    Over 6 months, 5 different mechanics, new plugs, coils, MAF, random catalytic efficiency codes, etc. And they kept telling me my car must be burning oil (though no signs) and I shouldn't bother. Last night got flashing engine light and massive misfires. Plug 3 was all gummed up. Again, engine must be burning oil and has to be piston rings. I'm done for they said. Found THIS video. Bought a valve and brought it back to the guy and told him to check. Original valve was SHOT. Probably hasn't been changed in 7 years (freaking Nissan!) Changed the valve. Changed the hose. Changed the 2 plugs. It's been only 12 hours, but it's running like a new car. No misfires. No stuttering. No codes! Thanks for the video! Probably saved me thousands of dollars and a crap ton of stress!!!!

    My Sentra was smoking horribly. I found this video and was sooooo skeptical. Nothing I try for car repairs is ever an easy, cheap fix. However, I found a pcv valve for $2 and put it on. BAM!! My Sentra used to smoke really bad too. Like, two packs a day. Finally I was like 'look bitch, I ain't buying your cigarettes no more. You need to get on the patch or something.' Then it started taking Chantix and like three days later I went out in the garage and it was dead. Committed suicide.

    I really enjoy your videos. We are about the same age. I'm 66. I've been a gear head since before I started driving. I never was a mechanic by trade but worked in Dealerships in the sales end. People ask me if I am a mechanic and I tell them, no but I'm a decent parts changer and have some common sense. As badly as I don't want to say anything that can be read as profiling, I think that the people in my generation were and still are much more in tune with their car. This sin't everyone, by a long shot. I tell people that when I started driving, I bought my own car, paid my own insurance and had the money by the time I was 16. Naturally that is next to impossible today but my point is this. My first car was a 1953,. It had a 6 volt electric system, no seat belts, an AM tube type radio that took 5 minutes to warm up. It had vacuum wipers. I won't try and explain vacuum to them but just that the more you pushed on the gas, the less they worked. It had a three speed transmission on the column with overdrive. It didn't have power steering or disk brakes or power anything. We had to learn to drive, not just point. Almost all highways were 2 lane. You were forced to pay attention because you knew it was serious stuff. To get a license you had to do all the things you do today, plus know how to give hand signals. My second car was a 62 Nova. It was 5 years old and I was a senior in high school. It didn't have seat belts either, same radio. My point is this. We learned how to keep cars running because our parents were raised in the depression and feared it happening again. Cars were a lot simpler back then, but even today, if people take a personal interest in their car and learn the things that they can do themselves, it can save a lot of money. My dad owned a sling of service stations and taught me two things about cars. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, but little problems turn into really big ones. You have to have your car, so when something needs to be done, know what is important, but keep it maintained. It is always cheaper to keep a car running than to get one running. Sorry for rambling.

    Hey Scotty! Thank you for this video. I was worried about my car burning oil and thanks to you I inspected my Hyundai Santro's engine and located the PCV valve. It was all clogged. I cleaned it up myself and I was still able to hear the noise it makes which proved that it was working. Once I placed it back and did an oil change. Its been ten days and my car hasn't lost oil yet. I have ordered a new replacement and will change it once its received. You just saved me a fortune too.

    I like your style. When I was a mechanic I made a lot of good business just helping people out. I know a few who would say bring it by the shop but I would rather keep a car on the road and save them money than let them down. The shop I worked at had good enough business doing heavier repairs and if you think of the shop as an emergency room, how many people clog the halls of an WE because of a common cold compared to actual emergencies. My mother was an RN but did a little wrenching and compared it that way.

    Whether your videos are new or old they are always highly educational and equally as entertaining! P.S. I know how you feel about Chevy's but I have 2 Silverado's (a 93' standard transmission and a 00' automatic transmission) and I've taken great care of them and they both run absolutely tip top. The 93' is rusted to all hell (I live in Minnesota) and leaks a little oil but ALWAYS starts and runs with no problems. The 00' is actually in really good shape and is only just now starting to get the classic rust around the wheel wells. They seem to just want to last forever and I have no reason to get rid of them unless I want to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. But why upgrade if they work perfectly fine right?

    I got an 1976 F100 6 cyl a long time ago. It was running bad and had no power. The PCV valve in the top of the valve cover and the entire hose from it to the intake was clogged with oil deposits. I cleaned the valve (I was on the road) and used a stick to remove the clogged gunk from the pipe. It ran much better and got me home.
    I had a 1966 Ford Falcon that quit running in the middle of nowhere. After checking a few things I knew I wasn't getting fire to the plugs. I popped off the distributor cap and the very end of the metal on the rotor cap was gone, broke clean off! From the rivet to the center (coil wire contact) was fine but there wasn't anything on the end to send the spark to the distributor ends of the plug wires. Luckily my dad taught me to ALWAYS put the old tune-up parts in the trunk when I did a tune-up, that saved the day! I put the old rotor cap on and went on my way! Saved me a tow truck call, especially since cellphones hadn't been invented yet.

    Hey Scotty. Thanks for all the wisdom I've gleaned from watching your videos. I changed out pcv valve and grommet ( it was cracked upon inspection) how soon after the swap should I see smoke output either greatly reduce or cease. It's cold out so I know I'll see some but hasn't changed as drastically as I'd imagine. Thanks in advance.

    • @scottykilmer
      @scottykilmer  7 років тому +1
