Hello!! Can I alternate between salicylic acid 2% and this mandelic acid since they're both exfoliants. I’d use SA 2% one night a week and mandelic acid the other night the same week?
Hi! I was wondering if I can use this mandelic acid with clindamycin? I use it twice a week, and I use clindamycin as daily as prescribed. If I can use it with the clinda, how do I layer and pair it
Are you using clindamycin in the morning and evening? 🤔 But overall, this is so gentle that it should not cause any issues. But at the same time, it is not needed.
@@wowoei So, use Mandelic Acid only in the evening. Either before applying Clindamycin or whenever you want to use Mandelic Acid, leave out Clindamycin that night. Test it and see how it goes :)

Really enjoyed this video :) my current routine is: -La roche posay hydrating cleanser -Ordinary Retinol 0.5%(use 2-3 times a week but I take breaks sometimes) -Ordinary niacinamice10% zinc 1% -Simple Kind to Skin Replenishing Rich Moisturizer. I really want to try out the mandelic acid but I'm not sure where to put it in my routine or how I could alternate with the product I'm using.

I use the same Neutrogena cleanser you use! Then I apply rose water I put on a spray bottle (rose water is a natural toner and has multiple benefits), as a mosturizer I use the marine hyaluronics because of their watery texture and then if it's the day and I'm leaving the house (this is both am routine and pm) I apply 30spf on my face and neck. I'm gonna introduce the mandelic acid after the marine hyaluronics on my nighttime routine :)
What if i have a toner too??After cleaning my face, should i apply toner first? The sequence goes like so, toner>the ordinary hyaluronic acid>the ordinary mandelic acis 10% + HA
Hey I’m currently using Ascorbic Acid 8%+Alpha Arbutin 2% for PM Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA for AM. Using natural moisturising factors + HA as moisturiser as I have dry skin. Also I have been using caffeine solutions. However I bought Mandelic acid 10%+ HA. But I’m a bit sceptical about how to use it as I never peel my skin. And I have a brown Tan skin tone ( no acne )
I am not sure what your question was, but Mandelic Acid does not physically peel your skin. It is an exfoliant, but it is very gentle, so technically you can experience some flaking because of the increased cell turnover, but it won't be that much, and it comes off when washing your face :) And you can use it in the evening before Ascorbic Acid 8%+Alpha Arbutin 2%.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you so much for responding. My question was besides using above mentioned products can I use Mandelic acid 10%? What are the actual benefits? Will it make my skin sensitive?
Well, what are your skin concerns? Do you suffer from hyperpigmentation? If so, yes it can be beneficial since it exfoliates the skin, meaning it can help to achieve a more even skin tone and smoothes the skin texture! :)
Hey, can I use Caudalie vinoperfect anti dark spot radiance serum & the Mandelic acid together in my skincare routine? If yes, which should come first..? Also which Mandelic acid is better the ordinary Mandelic acid or face theory ? Thank you!
Yes, it was 😀 No, you aren't; the soap bars nowadays are just as good as the liquid cleansers. But it's a bit old school, and I love the Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing bar 😀
Does this cause any irritation and does it dry out your skin I have a lot of texture dry flaky skin on my cheeks that I would like to remove is this a nice gentle exfoliation
I could use it daily without any concerns. It is quite gentle. Still, if you are new to an exfoliant, start with 2-3 times per week and increase the frequency over time and as tolerated.
Hi Melissa, please after cleansing my face should I wait for 20mins before I apply the ordinary mandelic acid or I can apply immediately after patting my face dry?
Alright thank you. Please my skincare night routine are; - Isntree hyaluronic acid toner - Corsx snail mucin - Dark spot correcting glow serum 1. How do I incorporate mandelic acid in my routine? 2. Please can you recommend an affordable skincare product for removal of dark spot?
@@divahuda Do you still experience the same dark spots as you did two months ago? Because Mandelic Acid helps exfoliate the skin, it should aid in lightening them faster. Alternatively, you could add a low-strength Retinol, such as the one from Good Molecules, to your routine! 😊 Do you feel the need to use both the toner and the essence, or is one of them sufficient for you? If one is enough, consider using just one of them, or use one in the morning and the other in the evening to simplify your routine! 😊 Apply Mandelic Acid after the toner, the essence, or after both of these have been applied. 😊
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 1. I still experience those dark spot. Axis-Y serum didn't do anything for me. But I want to educate myself properly before I start using it again but I am kind of scared that is why I asked for alternative that can deliver like Mandelic acid and will suitable for my skin colour. 2. I don't feel the need to use my toner and essence at the same time since I don't have a dry skin so I will alternate like you suggested. 3. Thank you so much. May God bless you for your kind and genuine help.
@@divahuda Oh, okay! Over-the-counter exfoliating acids like Glycolic, Lactic, or Mandelic Acid can be used on any skin color due to their low strength. However, when getting a chemical peel by a professional, they tend to use much higher strengths, and this is where it may (or may not) become an issue. Okay, you can use Mandelic Acid in the evening after your hydrating toner or essence. Start with 2-3 times per week, and then increase the frequency if needed and tolerated!

Hi i just ran across your channel.I purchase mandelic acid powder. Can i mix it with water. If not what to mix it with for my face .And you are so pretty.
Hello, you are saying not to mix azelaic acid with mandelic acid. Why is that? Can I use them altogether everyday? Thank you so much for your answer. Take care.
It's because it isn't recommended to use multiple acids in the same routine. But Mandelic Acid and Azelaic Acid may work since both are very gentle. Still, my recommendation would be to use Azelaic Acid in the morning and Mandelic Acid in the evening.
An exfoliant and/or brightening treatment should help fade it. So, yes, technically, yes :) However, the effectiveness also depends on the ingredient and strength that your skin responds to best.

Nice video but I see a lot of youtubers making this mistake when it comes to apply serums. By applying the the serum direct to your hand and then you rub your hands together, you wasting the serum and so by the time you put it on your face you are using the minimum amount of product. The best way is to put in your face directly and use your fingers to spread it along your face. This cause no wastage.

Do I have to dilute if I’m new to using it? Or can I also just apply it how you did in this video? Because the packaging said to dilute but I don’t know how to.
Mandelic Acid is generally pretty gentle compared to Lactic or Glycolic Acid, so diluting it is probably not necessary. Just make sure to start with 2-3 times per week for some time before using it more often, as this depends on your skin tolerance. Hello melissa and Thankyou for the informative video. Plz clear the confusion. I want to use vitC , ferulic acid , lactic acid and mandelic acid in my skin care routine . Can you sort out a plan for it.. ? Or are these way too much products already? Thanks in advance
It depends on what you want to target. And you are using 2 AHAs (Lactic Acid and Mandelic Acid) which is generally not needed because they have similar benefits. What Lactic Acid do you use, and which Vitamin C do you have? The serum or a suspension/cream?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thankyou so much fir replying .. i am using vit C suspension in 30 % silicone. And currently fighting with dullness, grumpiness, uneven skin tone and pigmentation issues . And lactic acid that i have is 5% with HA.

Hard to tell since there is no comparison available. Glycolic Acid shows likely quicker results but is more irritating. And therefore you can also use it less often. On the other hand, mandelic acid is gentle, and you can use it daily and likely for much longer.

I cannot find an answer to this anywhere!! Since this serum has hyalauronic acid, I cleanse, apply thermal water spray, then apply this serum and follow up with moisturizer and end my routine. Can this be used on wet skin and is it recommended to apply on damp skin? I don’t want to use a hyalauronic acid on dry skin
That's misinformation. Hyaluronic Acid is saturated (in the formulation itself), meaning it has already absorbed all the water it can, so you do not need to worry about it. However, in this case, it's essential to use it on dry skin since it is an exfoliating acid which may irritate the skin when it's wet because of increased absorption.

I recommend figuring out what's causing your acne in the first place...like checking the skincare products that you are using, hygiene in general but most importantly, reducing stress (if you have some) and changing your diet like; cutting out sugar and dairy and you may even want to pay attention to fruits and or meat because some of them can be treated with some toxins to make it last longer..
What's the % of your Retinol? For how long have you been using it? This combination can work because Mandelic Acid is fairly gentle. But depending on the % of your Retinol and what your skin can tolerate, it may lead to sensitivity. If that should occur, keep them separate/alternate between them.

Hey :) What else are you using along with it? Have you used/changed anything else since using Mandelic Acid? Also, do you usually get breakouts? Mandelic Acid = AHA, so you are basically adding other AHA's to it, which is not recommended. It's best to use them at alternate times. Not entirely sure about closed comedones. I would say Salicylic Acid works much better for that or even Benzoyl Peroxide or a Retinoid (Adapalene)

According to the Ordinary, it's not recommended to use two strong acids in the same routine. What Vitamin C cream are you using? Because it may be OK to use it in the same routine since most creams are only pure marketing and do not contain high amounts of vitamin c ;) And yes, Mandelic Acid can help you to lighten sun spots :)
I have a question abt my skincare order? I am using Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Caffeine solution, and my new product the Mandelic Acid, what order would I put those in?
Technically, Mandelic Acid has larger molecules, and therefore it should be used after the other three products you have. However, there are also some benefits in using it right after cleanser, so that it can shed off the dead skin cells so that the products can penetrate better into the skin. So try it and see what works best for you.

Hey! :)
Overall your routine sounds great! :)
Yes you can use it in the PM after Marine Hyaluronics :)

Yes :)
Hey
I’m currently using Ascorbic Acid 8%+Alpha Arbutin 2% for PM
Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA for AM.
It is an exfoliant, but it is very gentle, so technically you can experience some flaking because of the increased cell turnover, but it won't be that much, and it comes off when washing your face :)
And you can use it in the evening before Ascorbic Acid 8%+Alpha Arbutin 2%.

@@divahuda Do you still experience the same dark spots as you did two months ago? Because Mandelic Acid helps exfoliate the skin, it should aid in lightening them faster. Alternatively, you could add a low-strength Retinol, such as the one from Good Molecules, to your routine! 😊

Hey Melissa!! I don't if you'll see this 😅 but i just wanted to know does this serum helpe with PIH ?? ❤

However, in this case, it's essential to use it on dry skin since it is an exfoliating acid which may irritate the skin when it's wet because of increased absorption.

so do if i’m using aloe vera gel do i apply it before or after the mandelic acid ?
If it is a pure gel, I recommend using it before. But if it is a moisturizer, use it after.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you 🤍
Hi. Can I use this after I use my cerave acne foaming cream cleanser wash. It contains 4% benzoyl peroxide.
Yes you can! But it may be beneficial to add a mositurizer along with it, or at least something hydrating.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thanks for your response. So hydrating toner, HA serum, mandelic acid then moisturizer ? Also do I need to wait for the HA serum to dry before applying the mandelic acid or it’s fine on damp skin? :)
Correct! :) Just wait 30sec to a minute in between each product so that it has a bit of time to sink into the skin :)
Thank you for this video, it is really helpful. I have only ever washed my skin with a cleanser and never really applied anything to it. Is this good to begin with? I have freckles that I’m quite fond of, could this in any way “ruin” them or have a negative impact on my skin? : )
Glad it was helpful! :)
Yeah, Mandelic Acid is an excellent acid to start with because it penetrates slower into the skin due to the larger molecules which makes it a gentle exfoliating acid :)
You can use it daily but don't have to! See what works the best for you! I used it daily and had no problems with it :)
Okay thank you! I am thinking about starting to use it 2-3 times a week and then see how I react to it and then increase with time :)
Hi Melissa i use for my face both mendelic acid as well as lactic acid 5% is it okay ? Please reply.
Yes, if you use them on alternate days and not together.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Oh Boy! I did use together many times and I have sensitive face. Thank you so very much.
Did you experience irritation?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet not that much because i dont use frequantly just for sometimes but toghter. I only notice little peeling at the sides of the cheekes.
So, I recommend keeping them in separate routines and find a nice balance between the two :)
Hello. Can I use this product with the amino acids + B5 serum ? I bought them together but im not sure if I can use them at the same time.
Plus if I can use it together, whitch one should go first? I use just the CeraVe hydrating cleanser and hydrating lotion. In the evening I use hydrating cream instead of the lotion.
Hey! :)
Yes, that's fine! Use the Amino Acid serum at first after cleansing and then follow with Mandelic Acid. Use Mandelic Acid only in the PM.
Thank you so much. I'll make sure to do it just how you said. Btw thank you so much for replying sooo fast. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hello, I'd like to make a toner out of this Mandelic Acid. Do you have any idea how I'd do this? What portion would I add to 4 ounces for a moderate toner? Thank you!
I'm not sure about this, but generally, the serum is already very gentle, and I think the easiest way is to mix it with another serum or lotion/cream. So it would be similar to this and effortless to do.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet So appreciate your time in responding, Melisssa. 🌼🌺 I was thinking it'd be effortless to do as well, rather than take the time to make my own.
@@josie4peace Yeah, well, you can also just experiment :) 😊 I often do that, but I do not share it because I am unsure what effects it will have on other people.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I understand. I'm wanting to make a toner to use on my body but less potent and cost-effective.
@@josie4peace yes, I know. But for that, it may be best to look for some DIY guides online. Or yeah, just as I said, experiment but be careful :)
Can I use this with cerave sa cleanser ?? And beginners to acid.
Hey :)
What skin type do you have? And what are your skin concerns?
Depending on your skin, you may be able to use them together or alternate between them because the Cerave SA cleanser can be a bit drying sometimes, and Mandelic Acid exfoliates the skin.
I have oily skin..!! My skin concern is acne spot, blackheads, sebaceous filaments, pigmentation,;closed comodones .
@@sadiaruhi1687 Usually Salicylic Acid works best for oily skin. Sometimes AHAs (like Glycolic, Lactic or Mandelic Acid) can make oily skin oilier. However, you can try it and see what works best for you! :)
How about The ordinary azelaic acid?
@@sadiaruhi1687 That one can work! :) I prefer Paula's Choice Azelaic Acid a bit more than the one from the Ordinary! :)
Can I use oil with mandelic acid? The order would be mandelic acid, moisturizer, and facial oil.
What oil do you have? Because if you use a plant oil, it's best to use it before your moisturizer since that one probably contains silicon or other mineral oils? 🤔
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet argan oil.
@@nombreapellido7223 So, Mandelic Acid, Oil and then Moisturiser :)

The list of conflicts doesn't include vitamin c
Does that mean that this can be used with ascorbic acid ? Thanks.
I haven't tried the combination yet, as I don't have it. But yes, there aren't any conflicts. I tried it with the Vitamin C Suspension in Silicon and Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F, and there aren't any issues. But as I mentioned in my last video, always try a small area and see how it goes.
Also, The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA will not physically peel your skin. This is a form of chemical exfoliator to be used as a treatment overnight. These are often described as peeling solutions.
It works great with the Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% like the routine that I had in my before and after video: ua-cam.com/video/s3PX-PavgFo/v-deo.html
Can I use the ordinary azelaic acid cream with mandelic acid? If yes, please tell me the order in which I should apply. Thank you.
Yes. Use Mandelic Acid at first and then follow with Azelaic Acid.
Thank you so much for this video. How often can we use it ? Can I use vitamin C cream on top of it ? Will mandelic acid lighten my sun spots on my décolleté ? Thanks again
According to the Ordinary, it's not recommended to use two strong acids in the same routine.
What Vitamin C cream are you using? Because it may be OK to use it in the same routine since most creams are only pure marketing and do not contain high amounts of vitamin c ;)
And yes, Mandelic Acid can help you to lighten sun spots :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I have a serum vitamin c
If i use the manelic acid only at night so there is no need to use sunscreen at morning right ?
Do you have a lot of sun exposure? If yes, it's still best to use sunscreen during the day
I have a question abt my skincare order? I am using Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Caffeine solution, and my new product the Mandelic Acid, what order would I put those in?
Technically, Mandelic Acid has larger molecules, and therefore it should be used after the other three products you have. However, there are also some benefits in using it right after cleanser, so that it can shed off the dead skin cells so that the products can penetrate better into the skin. So try it and see what works best for you.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet ok thank you so much!
Hi Melissa
Thank you for the info.
Can I use Mandelic Acid in the evening with my 0.2% retinol?
I use Azelaic acid in the morning. Niacianmide am & pm, retinol 0.2% pm.
I don’t think I’ll buy azelaic any more as I don’t think it has done anything for my skin.
Also please in what order should I apply the mandelic acid in the pm.
Thank you.
Since you are still getting used to your Retinol, I recommend alternating between Mandelic Acid and Retinol in your evening routine to reduce the likelihood of experiencing irritation.
So:
AM:
- Cleanser
- Niacinamide
- (Optional) Moisturiser
- Azelaic Acid (skip this step when not using it anymore)
- SPF
PM 1:
- Cleanser
- Niacinamide
- Mandelic Acid
- (Optional) Moisturiser
PM 2:
- Cleanser
- Niacinamide
- Retinol
- (Optional) Moisturiser
Advanced Routine:
- Cleanser
- Niacinamide
- Mandelic Acid
- Retinol
- (Optional) Moisturiser
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you 😊
I’ll give that a go
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet hi Melissa, so 3 months on, I have been using the advanced routine as per your recommendation. I don’t think the Mandelic acid is doing what it’s meant to, Maybe I have a thicker skin? The only peeling that I have noticed is around my mouth and my cheeks don’t look anywhere near as glowy as I want them to. At the moment I do am: cleanser, caffeine eye cream, Niacinamide, sunscreen. PM: cleanser, caffeine eye cream, mandelic acid, retinol 0.2. My skin has adjusted and doesn’t burn or anything at all but it has hit a plateau.
@@cameliakavousi1249 Hello Camelia,
Yes, so what you now can do is use another AHA that has smaller molecules that penetrate the skin better to see a better result. Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid. Glycolic Acid is the strongest and will show fast results; however, from my experience, it can also easily irritate the skin if you overuse it. So the frequency is important. So that would be an option. Paula's Choice Daily Smoothing 5% AHA Treatment is a more gentle formulation. I wouldn't change the other products yet, since your skin needs to adjust to them. However, as the next step, you could go higher with the retinol or use a Retinoid such as Adapalene (Differin 0,1%). Just be careful with the frequency and do not use them together but on different days!
For example, a great routine could look like this.
Monday:
PM:
Cleanser
Paula’s Choice Daily Smoothing 5% AHA Treatment or The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution (only use 2-3 times a week in the beginning!)
Caffeine Solution
NIOD Hydration Vaccine (
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you
I’ll give that a go.
Confirming, I should stop using Mandelic acid when I start Glycolic acid?
I am using a salicylic acid cleanser everyday. I just wanted to know if I can use this acid after I wash my face with that cleanser
Usually, there shouldn't be an issue since this acid is very gentle; however, if you feel dryness reduce the frequency or space them further apart.
