How you are applying retinol? Mixing retinol or moisturizer together ? Or first moisturizer then retinol? And how many days are you using this? Am or pm?
@@tayyabajamil8619 Hey :) What Retinol do you use? Also, what strength (%) do you use? And are you new to Retinol, or have you already use Retinol products? Using your Retinol first and then Moisturizer or Moisturizer and then your Retinol depends on what your skin can tolerate. If you do not have sensitive skin and you introduce it correctly to your skin, you can use your Retinol first and then Moisturizer on top. However, if you have a bit more sensitive skin, using it the other way around may be best :) I recommend following the steps in the video :) Also, use your Retinol in the PM :)

Hello again, Retinol is a potent skincare ingredient that should be used only once a day to prevent skin irritation and dryness. Applying it more frequently won't necessarily improve results, but it could cause harm. It's best to use it at night since it can increase skin sensitivity to sun exposure and to maximize its benefits, as sunlight can degrade its efficacy.
I love your videos. They are very informative. I bought the .5 retinol, the Buffet and caffeine solution for my eyes. I Wasn't sure what step is what. So thank you for all your instructions! I didn't know i had to put all these things in the fridge.
Love how informative your videos are. I've been using that La Roche Posay sunscreen as well and I find it to be the best for skin and under make up. Yhanks so much for this video!!
@@TheSushiQueen100 Yes, I think that this is just the beginning it will get much worse 😞It's promoted in the "Dermatologist" community, it works really well. But La Roche Posay works well too. I just like to try new stuff to show people if it's worth trying. 😉
Firstly, thank you for al these videos! 😍 I would just like to confirm if this is okay? Cleanser 2% salicylic acid toner niacinamide serum Retinol in squalene 0.2% I've never really look after my skin properly because I haven't known how too 😔 so grateful for your videos 💓 thank you for showing me how easy it is xxxx
Hi Melissa! I'm 19 and just recently found your channel because I recently got hooked to starting my own stable skincare routine and you are one of the very few people on UA-cam that helped me A LOT to determine what actives I need. I have some closed and open comedones and a very open pores around my T zone and C zone area so right now, I bought (through online) The Ordinary Retinol in 0.2% because it's my very first time using it and also the Quickfx Pimple Eraser Recovery Concentrate Serum which has 10% Niacinamide and 1% Salicylic Acid (which I wished they lessen the percentage of the Niacinamide 😭). I have used Salicylic Acid before but since I'm starting off with a new product, I want to start it slow and also with Retinol by using it both of these at least 2 to 3 times a week. I watched your other video where you told us that I can used any product with Salicylic acid on it in the morning and the Retinol in the evening or even used both of these alternately at night. I decided that I will do the latter where I alternate these each evening. Anyway, my question is should I and can I still used my moisturizer AFTER if I already dilute it with the retinol? Or should I make this as my last step since technically I already have moisturizer in my face partner up with retinol when doing the diluted method? For moisturizer, I am using the Hada Labo Hydrating Water Gel since it's lightweight and my skin type is sometimes in between of being a combination and sometimes oily.
Hey! :) Overall the way you want to get started and what you want to do later on sounds great! As for your Retinol and diluting it with your moisturizer, it does not reduce the strength of your Retinol; your Retinol just needs much longer to penetrate the skin, which reduces sensitivity. If you plan on mixing your Retinol with your moisturizer, that's enough. You do not need to reapply your moisturizer on its own again. Also, if you can, I recommend not using a moisturizer in the evening when using your Retinol. Instead, use it during the day (if you should feel the need).
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Omg, you noticed my comment! 🧡 I really need this. Thank you so much! I'll be sure to do your suggestion. I hope with this I can finally clear my skin concern because this really is testing my self-esteem😭
Hello, please do not use The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid when using Tretinoin. Tretinoin is also a Retinoid, which has similar effects. Did you mean Belgium? If so, yes, I am from Luxembourg. 🇱🇺
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet okay,Yes Belgium, i live in Antwerpen. I dit 1 time tretinoin but stil have open retinoid , so i was thinking to finish my retinol emultion too.
Hi Melissa! First of all, I want to thank u for all the information you share about the ordinary’s products, it’s so helpful 🥺 just a quick question: in the PM I use: - Hyaluronic acid - niacinamide - Granactive Retinoid - cerave mosturiser Is it ok? I follow this PM routine everyday, in this order. Idk, in the video you said that it is best to keep it simple, so should I avoid niacinamide and use only Hyaluronic acid, Granactive Retinoid and a mosturiser? Also, is it bad to use granactive retinoid daily in the PM? Thanks a lot🥺💖
Hey :) Your PM routine looks great! You can use it daily in the evening if your skin can tolerate (meaning not getting any irritation like redness, pilling, or dryness), which can sometimes occur. Still, it is more likely to happen with the Ordinary Retinols and not so much with their Granactive Retinoids.
Hi Melissa! You are a skincare game-changer.. thank you for selflessly putting these videos up for us. I have one question - can we use cerave sa cleanser + ordinary lactic acid + retinol on skin in this order? Or should I use alpha arbutin in stead of lactic acid.. I know cerave already has niacinamide so not sure we can use both cerave sa cleanser + ordinary niacinamide before retinol?
Hey :) If you are new to Retinol and are still going through the 'build-up tolerance' process. I do not recommend using the Cerave SA cleanser nor Lactic Acid in that specific routine since it can lead to irritation. I recommend using a gentle cleanser when using Lactic Acid and Retinol for the first time. For example, you could use your SA cleanser in the AM but use a gentle one in the PM. Also, alternate between Lactic Acid and Retinol or use Lactic Acid in the AM followed by SPF and Retinol in the PM. That's possible too. You may be able to use them together once your skin has fully adjusted to your Retinol, but I do not recommend it in the beginning.
Thanks for the informative video and for being super responsive! I actually started right on 1% and use 1 drop every 2-3 times per week. I've gotten more pimples than usual a bit less than 2 weeks in; is this the general time frame in which the purging takes place? Should I go down to .2%/.5%, or just stick it out? I haven't gotten any other kinds of irritation aside from that and some flakiness.
Yes, generally, you can get irritation or an increase in acne during the first weeks. However, I have had many subscribers/viewers telling me that it did not work out for them and that it lasted for months, so they stopped using the product and switched to a different formulation/brand. I do feel that sometimes the Squalane is causing the issue. (not sure) So you need to give it some time , but if it does not stop, I recommend changing the brand/formulation and see if that helps :)
The order of application is correct! However, it may feel a bit too oily since the Retinol in Squalane has already an oily feel that you may not need the Vitamin e oil, but see how it feels on the skin! :)
Hi! A couple years ago I used roaccutane for about 8 months. But now I want to use retinol to get rid of my acne scars. But i dont know which one to choose, the 0.2/0.5 or 1... Thanks!

Hey! Yes, that's fine. Just make sure that your skin is able to tolerate it when using the 2% BHA exfoliant in the AM and Retinol or Mandelic Acid in the PM. And the order of application is correct! :) If your skin should become sensitive/irritated, reduce the frequency either of the exfoliating acids or the Retinol serum :)
Hi Melissa! Thank you so much for such a detailed review. I have a question. Surprisingly my skin didn’t irritate at all to retinol 0.5 in squalane although I have very sensitive skin prone to rosacea in summer and dermatitis in winter. Does this mean that I can apply it around eyes? I am very concerned about the appearing wrinkle/mimic lines. I’m turning 25 soon.
Hello, 😀 You always can apply it to the eye contour; however, depending on the thickness of the skin, it quickly leads to burning and/or stinging. People tend to use it daily and end up with irritation. If you do tolerate it well, you can, of course, use it on the eye contour. :)
Yes, that would be a good option. You can also try to use it a couple of times on the other days and just adjust it. Use them together see how this works, wait a few days if everything is OK to do it again etc. Just do not use them too quickly too often, even if you think that everything is fine, it will most likely lead to irritation! YOu will get a feeling for it after a while 🙂

And do not overdo it with both in the beginning. My advice would be to use only one for a few weeks and after that add the other, but not together :)
Hello. Please tell me what to do. Due to not very pleasant and long circumstances, I received 1% retinol in squalane instead of 2% squalane retinoids. I know that retinol is not as gentle as retinoid, which is why I am afraid, because I will use it for the first time. Is it possible to take a regular cream with collagen, add 1-2 drops there, thereby reducing the power of the drug so as not to use such a high percentage? Thank you
Hey :) Yes, that would be an option; you could also just start using it every few days without diluting it. So give the skin 3-4 days in between and do that for some time before increasing the frequency.

So, have you used it only once so far? You don't have to experience any side effects, this depends on your skin and the % of Retinol, you've chosen! :) However, the side effects can also appear over the next days or when using it too often in a row :)

Hey! :) As I mentioned in the video, if you are new to Retinol/Granactive Retinoid, start with the lowest %. So, either use their 0,2% Retinol or 2% Granactive Retinoid.
@@mariyumshah7782 Well, that depends on how well your skin can convert it. But generally, it should show improvements after some time, yes. It is not making them disappear for that you need surgery ;), And it is in Squalane oil, so it is moisturizing. Still, you could use a hydrating serum before, such as Marine Hyaluronics. Niacinamide can be used daily in the AM and/or PM. If you use the Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2%, you may want to use it every other day for a while before using it more often and see how your skin is going to respond.
Hi Melissa, can I still use my phone after applying retinol? I heard that you should turn off all the lights and avoid sunlight in order to let the ingredients to do their job.
No, you do not need to turn off the room lights after applying retinol to your skin. I'm planning to record a video about this tomorrow since I receive this question quite often.
I've gotten to the point where I don't have any more bumps but I still have a lot of old scars I haven't been able to get rid of. I'm kinda nervous to try a new product though because I don't want to have a bad reaction and bring back the bumps/ acne.
Have a look at either the Ordinary Ascorbic Acid + Alpha Arbutin or single Alpha Arbutin serum, and a Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid serum), which I recommend since the texture of the Ordinary Ascorbic Acid + Alpha Arbutin is a bit weird :)

Hi, Melissa! This is great video! You're a life saver ❤️ I have a question. My concern is acne, so I started using retinol with adapalene 0.1 8 months ago. No iritation or whatsoever, but still got acne. After finished 1 tube in 6 months, I am using Cerave Resurfacing Retinol. As far as I searched, Cerave contains about 0.3% retinol. After this I want to use The Ordinary, but I'm confused which % I can start with? Can I go to 0.5% or start from 0.2%?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet yes, now I am using Cerave. But next month it will be finished, so I am thinking to change to The Ordinary instead. What do you think?
If you are happy with Cerave's Resurfacing Retinol serum, stick to it. Or change to The Ordinary 0,2% or 0,5% in Squalane. However, if you still get active acne, have a look at the video below: How to use Retinol and Benzoyl Peroxide for Acne: ua-cam.com/video/3a_hej0kEeg/v-deo.html
Hm, well technically, they do not conflict. But I think that is too much. Wouldn't apply it this way. Maybe like this: AM: Cleanser Buffet Niacinamide (Spf) PM: Cleanser Retinol 0,5% But make sure to introduce the Retinol properly into your routine. Also, you are OK to use the routine as you wrote. However, I think it's too much for the skin in one routine. But it's individual so try it and see how you go :)
I recommend looking into a 4%-5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser (for active acne)/ and a gentle cleanser for oily skin and Differin Gel (Adapalane). The Ordinary Retinols are too oily for oily skin types.
Hi Melissa! I’m a 33 year old man. I just got some the ordinary products and your videos have been super helpful! I was planning on this kind of routine: AM Cleanser Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Moisturizer with SPF PM Cleanser Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone Moisturizer What do you think and is the order ok? Should I use retinol or other products? My goal is go have a hydrated and youthful (glowing) looking skin. I would like to have smaller pores on my face and prevent wrinkles. Now I only have fine lines on my forehead and some around my eyes but nothing drastic. Thank you so much! 🙏
Hello Henri, The order is correct. The only issue that I have is the Hyaluronic Acid 2% and after that using the Vitamin C Suspension. That often leads to pilling (flaky little bits), And the product tends to sit on top. But if you have dry skin, it may work well. You need to test it. You can use retinol a few times a week that may be very beneficial. For that, I recommend creating a second evening routine. PM 2 (2-3 times a week) Cleanser Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Retinol (0,2% or 0,5%) Moisturizer (Optional) If you have very oily skin, I recommend trying it without a moisturizer, especially in the evening. It tends to work better for most people. Try to give the skin only what it needs and experiment to find the right frequency.
You may want to combine it with your moisturizer to make it less irritating :) And do not use it too often when using it for the first time. Keep an eye on your skin! :)
It is generally safe to use coconut oil as a moisturizer after applying Retinol Serum 0.5%. However, it is important to note that coconut oil may not provide enough hydration for some people, particularly if they have dry or dehydrated skin. Retinol can be quite drying and irritating to the skin, so it's important to follow up with a moisturizer to help hydrate and soothe the skin. Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer that can help to keep the skin soft and supple. If you do decide to use coconut oil as a moisturizer, make sure to apply a small amount and massage it gently into your skin. You can also consider mixing the coconut oil with a more hydrating moisturizer to boost its moisturizing effects.
I'm a new user of retinol, and have been using it everyday for 2 weeks now. I use the 1% solution, and apply it every night. I use it with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid as well. And surprisingly, I experience no irritation at all, aside from a very slight stinging effect that last for just a few minutes. Obviously I was quite uninformed prior watching this vid, and now i'm suspicious why my skin seem to tolerate retinol pretty well. I'm wondering if this is considered normal? Thank you for the very informative vid, as always!
Hello, do you have oily skin 🤔? Well, this is just the recommendation, but I experienced flaking around my mouth as well, but my cheeks and mouth area are very dry especially during the winter. So I assume that if the skin is oilier, or if you have resistant skin it may be possible to use it on a daily base right away without any irritation. But since a lot of people struggle with the application, I am somewhat cautious and telling people how they can introduce it properly to avoid skin irritation. Generally speaking, there are many different skin types, and the once that have oily resistant skin are the once that can apply basically anything without concerns. However, they are unlikely to see huge improvements, or it takes them longer. It seems to be very individual, and I am happy for you that it worked right away :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I see now, thanks for the explanation! I do have an oily skin, or perhaps a combination type as my cheeks tend to get dry at times, but still oily nontheless. Having known this, should I prioritize reducing the oiliness to improve my skin's ability to absorb formulations? Thank you so much! I'm learning a lot from you 🙂
Well, if you like the texture and feeling of the Retinol in Squalane, I recommend continue using it!😊 Otherwise, you may want to look into the Granactive Retinoid 2% in Emulsion or Paula's Choice Retinol products or the La Roche Posay Redermic Retinol Cream instead😊
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I am actually looking into PC's retinol! Though I might do the switch after 3 months (which is TO retinol's period after opening shelf life, i believe?) During which I'll observe it's efficacy. Thank you so much, Melissa!
@@dearestjillian Here is some general information from The Ordinary: Patch testing - We recommend avoiding unprotected solar exposure, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. For more information on how to do a test patch, please visit our Patch Test Guide on The Ordinary website. Order of Application - We suggest using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. Generally, we recommend applying water-based solutions first, followed by oil formulations, and finally cream/suspension formulas. If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Acne - Just as a note - none of our products can be considered medical treatments for acne, so we suggest consulting with your physician to see what may work best for your skin. :-) Pregnancy - While each ingredient has been tested and is considered safe for topical application, DECIEM products have not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding people. When pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid any skincare products containing retinoids such as formulations with Granactive Retinoid or Retinol.

Did you use the Retinol serum after the peeling solution? Well, you don't have to come across any side effects, this depends on your skin type and tolerance and how you introduce Retinol to your skin! :) If nothing happened, that's good! :)

Hi there Melissa, you are really helping me create the perfect routine :) I'm so grateful for your videos! I have a doubt regarding the Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane and vit C (the Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%). Can I use them both in the night routine applying first the vit C and then the retinoid? Since them both are best to be applied in the evening. Thank you!
Hey! :) Technically, yes. However, I recommend alternating between them in your PM routine since both feel oilier on the skin, which when using them in the same routine may not feel that good on the skin.
RETINOL:
* Can reverse signs of aging,
* Works by speeding skin turnover up
* !!! Retinol can make skin dry !! !!
* Squalene is good at hydrating skin. Squalene is an antioxidant.
USE RETINOL ONLY IN THE EVENING ( 3x/week)
Always start with the lowest percentage 0,2% and then you can move to higher! (0,2% 0,5%, 1,0 %)
* 1st step - Always use cleanser!!!
* 2nd step - Optional is Toner ( AHA or BHA should be not included)
* 3rd step (should be not included at the beginning) - LEAVE ON EXFOLIANT GLYCOLIC ACID (AHA OR BHA)
* 4th step - Water-based serums Hyaluronic acid and Niacinamide CAN USE BEFORE APPLYING RETINOL, but maybe better use it in the morning routine
* Retinol should be applied AFTER water-based solutions
* Use only 2 drops. Avoid eyes or lip area.
* Use can mix moisturize with retinol and then apply it.
* RETINOL SHOULD BE PUT IN THE FRIDGE!!!!
Thank you! I just pined your comment!🥰
They can layer buffet before retinol in night. The basic thing is any exfoliate product is no with retinol

@@tayyabajamil8619 Hey :)
What Retinol do you use? Also, what strength (%) do you use? And are you new to Retinol, or have you already use Retinol products?
Using your Retinol first and then Moisturizer or Moisturizer and then your Retinol depends on what your skin can tolerate. If you do not have sensitive skin and you introduce it correctly to your skin, you can use your Retinol first and then Moisturizer on top. However, if you have a bit more sensitive skin, using it the other way around may be best :)

Hi Meslisa can u help me I’m just wondering do people who use retinol use it everyday if yes 2 times a day or at night only
Hello again,
Retinol is a potent skincare ingredient that should be used only once a day to prevent skin irritation and dryness. Applying it more frequently won't necessarily improve results, but it could cause harm. It's best to use it at night since it can increase skin sensitivity to sun exposure and to maximize its benefits, as sunlight can degrade its efficacy.
This is such a great video. I was really nervous about using retinol, but after this video I am confident I know what to do. Thank you so much.

Hey! :)
Overall the way you want to get started and what you want to do later on sounds great!

Hi Melissa! First of all, I want to thank u for all the information you share about the ordinary’s products, it’s so helpful 🥺 just a quick question: in the PM I use:
- Hyaluronic acid
- niacinamide
- Granactive Retinoid
- cerave mosturiser
Is it ok? I follow this PM routine everyday, in this order. Idk, in the video you said that it is best to keep it simple, so should I avoid niacinamide and use only Hyaluronic acid, Granactive Retinoid and a mosturiser? Also, is it bad to use granactive retinoid daily in the PM? Thanks a lot🥺💖
Hey :)
Your PM routine looks great! You can use it daily in the evening if your skin can tolerate (meaning not getting any irritation like redness, pilling, or dryness), which can sometimes occur. Still, it is more likely to happen with the Ordinary Retinols and not so much with their Granactive Retinoids.
Very informative, love the way u share the information about how to use the retinol(the Ordinary)
Glad it was helpful!🤗
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you so much! May you be blessed with all things you desire! Take care my friend.. you are a gem! :)
Thanks🥰! You're video is verry helpfull to me 🥰🥰🥰

Can i use it this way?
1. Cleanse

Yes, that's fine. Just make sure that your skin is able to tolerate it when using the 2% BHA exfoliant in the AM and Retinol or Mandelic Acid in the PM. And the order of application is correct! :)
If your skin should become sensitive/irritated, reduce the frequency either of the exfoliating acids or the Retinol serum :)

Damn!
I just used this ordinary squalane retinol right after cleaning my face . Only after putting on did i search in yt and got ur channel
I hope that you'll enjoy it! :)
So you’d say now in the beginning to use the 0.2% retinol 2-3 times a week and then in like a month I can use lactic acid before the retinol?
Yes, that would be a good option. You can also try to use it a couple of times on the other days and just adjust it. Use them together see how this works, wait a few days if everything is OK to do it again etc. Just do not use them too quickly too often, even if you think that everything is fine, it will most likely lead to irritation!
YOu will get a feeling for it after a while 🙂

Thank you

I would use them on alternate days. (in your evening skincare routine) You will still get the benefits of both.
I realized that I've been using too much of the product huhuhu
Lovely video. Learning a lot from you, thank you 🙂
Glad to hear that you enjoyed it! :)
Beautiful videos. I can use on the eye contour "caffeine solution 5% + EGCG" with "retinol 0.2%"?
Yes, that's fine :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thanks a lot for the reply ❤.
In which order would you recommend me to put them on the eye contour? Is better caffeine or retinol first?
@@johnb4112 Start with the caffeine solution and apply it on the eye contour and use your retinol second for the rest of your face.
thanks so much for a very imformative video. i am using mine for a bout a week now. can feel the dryness now and peeling. moisturizer must be before or after? tia.
Hey! :)
Use a moisturiser afterwards :)
is it normal that i’m not having any sort of reaction or irritation after using the retinol? i’m using it for the first time and i’m only using moisturiser after
So, have you used it only once so far? You don't have to experience any side effects, this depends on your skin and the % of Retinol, you've chosen! :)
However, the side effects can also appear over the next days or when using it too often in a row :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet i’ve been using it for about 3 days now at 0.2%
@@kkuaiii6012 Well, if nothing happens, keep on using it :)

Hey! :)
As I mentioned in the video, if you are new to Retinol/Granactive Retinoid, start with the lowest %. So, either use their 0,2% Retinol or 2% Granactive Retinoid.
Will it reduces my wrinkles, how much time will it take as my skin dry.its my so bad habit I am not comfortable with heavy moisturizer
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you so much for your timely response
@@mariyumshah7782 Well, that depends on how well your skin can convert it. But generally, it should show improvements after some time, yes. It is not making them disappear for that you need surgery ;), And it is in Squalane oil, so it is moisturizing. Still, you could use a hydrating serum before, such as Marine Hyaluronics.
PM:
Cleanser
Marine Hyaluronics (5-8drops for your face and neck)
Retinol
Hi dear I bought my ordinary retinol in squalane 1% . I wanna ask u can I use alpha arbutin alternative day . I'm confused help me plz dear
You can use it in the same routine and use it before applying your Retinol serum :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thanks u always help me❤ love u more
can you make routines for people who work at night and sleep in the morning. 😍🙏
Hmm, generally, you can use the same routines, just vice versa. Meaning you skip the sunscreen. But it's not a bad idea, and I will look into that 😃Thank you.
I'm new to retinol and I'm getting the .2% concentration but im also getting the 10% niacididemide + zinc. Should I start retinol once a week? How often can i use the niacidmide?
Niacinamide can be used daily in the AM and/or PM. If you use the Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2%, you may want to use it every other day for a while before using it more often and see how your skin is going to respond.
My mom is 40 above. She want to start using retinol. Can she start with the ordinary Granactive retionoid 2% ?
Is it good for aging spots?
Hi Melissa, can I still use my phone after applying retinol? I heard that you should turn off all the lights and avoid sunlight in order to let the ingredients to do their job.
No, you do not need to turn off the room lights after applying retinol to your skin. I'm planning to record a video about this tomorrow since I receive this question quite often.
I'm 25 y/o. Can I start using this as early as now?
Yes, I am also 25 :)
Thank you for this!! Very helpful
You're so welcome!
Hi Melissa just watched your video for the first time and fell in love with you and the way you explain im new to use retinol 0.2 my eye areas are more wrinkled you said to avoid from going closer to eye areas im confused guide me please 🙏❤️
Hey! :)
Glad to hear that you enjoy my videos!
Does your eye area feel drier too?
What else do you use?
Best and memorable day of my life that i got a reply from you melissa.
There are wrinkles around my eye area and its dry the skin around my eyes is loose too especially the upper eyelid.i never used anything for this.for the first time i have bought ordinary retinol 0.2 but i have not used it yet as im scared of side effects.
@@chitralgilgitviews You may be able to use The Ordinary Retinol on the eye contour, however, I do not recommend using it on the eyelids as this is a very delicate area where it can easily lead to irritation.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you and love ❤️ you Melissa
I graduated to the retinol .5%. I started with the emulsion first, and i like the squalane better. I have combo skin, kinda leaning towards more dry. Love the oily texture in this one😊❤
Hey Christine!
I'm happy to hear that you enjoy the Ordinary Retinol in Squalane! :) The texture is personal preference and works well on dry skin! :)
Thank you very much Melissa 💌
You are welcome! 🙃
Hi, Melissa! This is great video! You're a life saver ❤️
I have a question.
Hello Djayeng,
I am a bit confused, so what are you currently using? 🤔 CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet yes, now I am using Cerave. But next month it will be finished, so I am thinking to change to The Ordinary instead. What do you think?
If you are happy with Cerave's Resurfacing Retinol serum, stick to it. Or change to The Ordinary 0,2% or 0,5% in Squalane. However, if you still get active acne, have a look at the video below:
How to use Retinol and Benzoyl Peroxide for Acne: ua-cam.com/video/3a_hej0kEeg/v-deo.html
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you Melissa! I 'll check it out ❤️
Wow thanks for making this video I didn't know about leaving it in I've been washing it off after 10 minutes I thought that's what I had to do
No worries, I am happy to help :)
hi Melissa i bought TO products and im planning to use this routine
cleanser
niacinamide toner
buffet
retinol .5% in squalene
Hm, well technically, they do not conflict. But I think that is too much. Wouldn't apply it this way.
Maybe like this:
AM:
Cleanser
Buffet
Niacinamide
(Spf)
PM:
Cleanser
Retinol 0,5%
But make sure to introduce the Retinol properly into your routine.
Also, you are OK to use the routine as you wrote. However, I think it's too much for the skin in one routine. But it's individual so try it and see how you go :)
Hey dr thanks for u r guides this serum suitable for my oily acne prone skin?? Can u plz tell me
I recommend looking into a 4%-5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser (for active acne)/ and a gentle cleanser for oily skin and Differin Gel (Adapalane).
The Ordinary Retinols are too oily for oily skin types.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank u
Well my next step after toner is essence then, hyaluronic acid serum, then retinol and finally moisturizer. Sometimes night mask.
Cleanse, retinol, hyaluronic, moisturizer is my pm routine
Why would you use your Hyaluronic Acid serum before your Retinol?
See here: ua-cam.com/video/S0SnEzWLBrU/v-deo.htmlsi=-ma0f12anUAOIUGI
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I didn't write that
@@ownagebox Based on what you have listed above, it looks like this.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet idk but as I'm reading it, it's still retinol before hyaluron. Idk what you mean
@@ownagebox Yes, that's my point, why do you do that? What Hyaluronic Acid and Retinol product do you use?
Hi Melissa! I’m a 33 year old man. I just got some the ordinary products and your videos have been super helpful! I was planning on this kind of routine:
AM
Cleanser
Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Moisturizer with SPF
PM
Cleanser
Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone
Moisturizer
What do you think and is the order ok? Should I use retinol or other products? My goal is go have a hydrated and youthful (glowing) looking skin. I would like to have smaller pores on my face and prevent wrinkles. Now I only have fine lines on my forehead and some around my eyes but nothing drastic. Thank you so much! 🙏
Hello Henri,
The order is correct.
PM 2 (2-3 times a week)
Cleanser
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Retinol (0,2% or 0,5%)
Moisturizer (Optional)
If you have very oily skin, I recommend trying it without a moisturizer, especially in the evening. It tends to work better for most people. Try to give the skin only what it needs and experiment to find the right frequency.

Thank you for these videos, very insightful. Can I use a coconut oil after the Retinol Serum 0.5% as a moisturizer?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you💕
I'm a new user of retinol, and have been using it everyday for 2 weeks now.
I'm learning a lot from you 🙂
Well, if you like the texture and feeling of the Retinol in Squalane, I recommend continue using it!😊
Otherwise, you may want to look into the Granactive Retinoid 2% in Emulsion or Paula's Choice Retinol products or the La Roche Posay Redermic Retinol Cream instead😊
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I am actually looking into PC's retinol! Though I might do the switch after 3 months (which is TO retinol's period after opening shelf life, i believe?) During which I'll observe it's efficacy.
Thank you so much, Melissa!
Yeah, it's a great option but just more expensive 😀 No worries, happy skincaring :)

@@dearestjillian Here is some general information from The Ordinary:
Patch testing - We recommend avoiding unprotected solar exposure, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin.
Pregnancy - While each ingredient has been tested and is considered safe for topical application, DECIEM products have not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding people. When pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid any skincare products containing retinoids such as formulations with Granactive Retinoid or Retinol.
