It shows that creators of Gothic 2 were fully capable of creating something a bit different which is still really good (in the light of what Gothic 3 was it seems to be an important point). There is a spell in the game called something like "destroy undead" , which is basically a fast missle type spell that instantly kills anything it hits as long as it is undead. They patched it in later versions of the game, but it used to work on the undead dragon. It was a bit anticlimactic that the end boss could be one-shotted with a scroll you could buy for cheap at various vendors and probably had already in your inventory since you picked it up somewhere and forgot about it .

They were obvious fanatics and believed for sacred help that never arrived.
Magic ore was more needed for weapons. Someone (in the valley of mines i think) tells you that elite orc warriors are armored and almost impossible to defeat without swords made of magic ore that pierce even hardest armors with ease.
Great point pal! You just answered that big question from the conversation with the undead dragon and filled the gap of lore! I never understood that he was the reincarnation of the Sleeper, it makes sense! Thanks!
I seem to remember the expansion content as being a bit more substantial. There were different climate zones and enemies all over the place. Very enjoyable.

Thanks, i watched all of your gothic "reviews" and it has truly been a trip in nostalgia land :) I wish devs could take a page out of these old games, for the modern games...
Great review man! I also love this game. The first time I played I became paladin of course, later on, maybe chapter 5, you get this busted rune as a paladin, banish evil I think it's called and u basically one shot everything that bows to Beliar, including the orcs. I remember returning to the valley of mines and killing all the orcs from a safe distance one by one with this rune. I played also as a dragon hunter because I loved big ass weapons but it was by far the most difficult way at later chapters, in the isle of Beliar mostly because you had to fight packs of orcs and lizard people. Finally I tried my luck as a fire mage and I had a blast! It was so fun doing the novice quests, I loved the feeling of being a monk. Chapter one is the longest as a novice but you become fire mage in the same chapter so it pays out a lot. You enter valley of mines having fireball spell which you can kill orcs one by one quite easily but you need a crap load of mana potions. At later chapters you become weapon of mass destruction, with the combination of two spells, aoe freeze and rain of fire, you obliterate everything that moves. It was so easy at chapter 6 killing 20 orcs in two seconds! Anyway Gothic 2 is my favorite game by far because no other game sucked you in its world as this does, making you part of it. Too bad Gothic 3 was such a disappointment...
Remember chills I got when you return from colony and all those seekers just invaded every place in the khorinos...best game, with G1 it got me to RPG genre
I just stumbled upon your video by accident while googling "Witcher 3 ideal gothic 3" (Or as I call it, 70 percent ideal Gothic 3) and I absolutely loved your take on reviewing it. Thanks multi much!
Interestingly in my last playthrough as a Paladin I smacked the Seekers easily. Paladins are pretty OP. Also: Ranged builds. Awesome. Great review all the way, can't wait for your take on Gothic 3. Just re-installed it but couldn't pull myself together long enough to get started again... For your review playthrough I suggest an Assassin-Beliar-build, the most fun way to play this game IMO because of the endgame...
It is interesting that the Gothic devs did recognize that the player had full autonomy and control over their adventures and choices, that which the villains too had after all.
7:20 They never did that in my playthroughs.... Then again, I always saved some Rain of Fire scrolls for them so they never got a chance to kill each other.
Oh dang, the English translation is SO bad!!! As a German, I gotta tell you, a lot of things make much more sense in the Original language. Basically anytime you point out weird inconsistencies where dialogue doesn't make any sense, it's a weird translation issue. Also the voice acting is actually really good in German.
I do like after every episode the game threw new challenges and changes to the world that even after you get good weapon and armor you still have moments you could do nothing but run and figure things out through your wits rather than just hack and slash.
nice walktrough, unique, just like the Gothic series :) you highlighted the main reasons why it is a good game. before TNotR you could "easily" melee kill the seekers and dragons, then they tried to rebalance the game because of the new water mage staff and the claws of Beliar and, well you see what happened. i remember playing G3 (with the 0day patch) and that i couldnt pass the first wild hog because of the stunlocks it used. fuckin wildhogs. and the broken quests, and the broken main quest that you could solve only via console. i played through the game at least 10 times before an almost bug free (community project) version was available.
For the whole endboss you just need 2 scrolls of destroy undead. Still, one of the best RPGs out there and I usually play through 1 and 2 every year once.
Btw, the voice thingy is the same in German. All Dragons, some mages and Xardas share the same actor. As do a LOT of the side characters, Diego and Lares for example.
One dragon for each element my ass! There are 2 earth-themed dragons, 2 fire dragons, 1 water-themed dragon and one darkness dragon. --- And that paladin leader in the Colony. "Oh, sorry, can't help you, go kill Satan yourself!" For fuck's sake.
Found out that they actually explain the LP cost increase for 1h and 2h. If you ask the trainer for the militia (stands in the fort at Lord Andre) if you should start with 1h or 2h, he tells you, that you'll get better automatically with the other one.. in time.
+Jake Belyea i've always skipped it cause in every single playthrough of G2 i've had i've came to a conclusion that it's impossible to kill them with the gear you have at that point, unless you've cleared every single damn mob available before that point lol
The only way I managed to beat Gothic 2 with the addon was playing as a Mercenary dex based using bows. The game became so easy it was even a Joke. Before the addon, I beat the game as a pure mage, as a one handed mercenary an as a two handed paladin and It was awesome. (The experience of becoming a fire mage felt very special... I dunno why, maybe it was because the monastery sound theme). When I first played the game with the addon I tried my favorite build: pure mage. My ass got kicked so hard that it wasnot funny. It felt impossible to play as a mage at the moment. Then I tried as a two handed mercenary... not luck either. Almost every fucking two handed sword required so much strenght that I had to drop the idea. Then I started as a dex based mercenary with bows and one handed dex based swords (remember betty? from the bandits camp?) With that build, I beat the game easly :) (I even cleared the valley of mine by myself in chapter two using only a bow...)
13:14: The dragon fights are indeed awful. But fret not, I have discovered a surefire way to defeat them. Run towards them at all times while tapping the CTRL key. This way you dish out attacks that are so brief they don't make you stop. Bonus points if you put the Initial D soundtrack on while doing that.
Is there a way to enable screenshots in Gothic 2? Like in Settings or in some directory .ini document or something? Something which would enable quick screenshots(as in not PrintScreen and then Paste into Paint, that takes too much time) and which would save screenshots automatically in the game directory or some other folder?
Gothic 1 and 2 have mods for Manaregeneration and in general playing a mage is easy mode in gothic in special when you have your first AoE, I managed to clear out the orc town in G1 and almost everything in new Khorinis in G2, and clear out the orc camps in chapter 2. can be done and as mage dragon killing is extremely easy just get the lightning strike
Your "citation" of Michael Hoge is out of context. Hoge was talking about how they were prototyping Gothic 3 and looked at opinions about Gothic 2 that were posted at internet forums. He goes on and explains that an exemplary posts were "I felt the dragons were shit" and "I liked fighting against the orks" ua-cam.com/video/kBSJ3_m64lU/v-deo.html
The eye doesn't only force the dragons, it is actually one of the best defensive amulets in the game. The only alternative is Inos's Light amulet, which i am not sure you are able to get in Nights of The Raven, so Inos's eye is pretty much your best amulet through out the whole game.
But it loses all this power in the middle of dialogue so you have to put another amulet on actual fight... It gets wierder when you play as mage because in the end Pyrokar gives you even more powerful amulet so you could compare with paladin and Dragon Hunter armors.
Ah thats why. I thought that you were a bit too weak against Seekers and Orcs because i remember i was able to take them on without too much trouble by the time i went to Minental. Problem is that you first went there then to Jharkendar, but i always first go to Jharkerndar, then to the Minental, plus Jharkendar is actually better suited to go to first because enemies there are easier and you get a lot stronger after it.
+Trash Lounge I was thinking about Neverwinter Nights aswell, i played it when it came out though, and i don't remember a thing about it. Got to check if it's worth reviewing first.
+JustCrumbz Arcania is not longer considered to be a sequel to Gothic, or even a part of Gothic series at all. There's just no point. It's just a terrible game overall and everyone knows it by this point
@@durminparadox I guess probably changed to not Ah I don't blame you I wouldn't want to play a shit game just so i can make a video about how shit it is either
Your whole G2 review is great! One question remains, though... why do you sound like you have an Indian accent sometimes when we can clearly see that you're not? :D
Wait did you do the addon before coming back to the colony? If not then you are fu... in not so good situation, because normally you would 3-hit the seeker.
As a mage it's very benificial. You can learn the second magic circle for 5 LP less from Milten (reducing the cost from 10 to 5). The other benefit is that, like in Khorinis, Jarkhendar as well gets new monster spawns every chapter, so entering later nets you more xp, that's the reason I go never go there in the 2nd chapter anymore.
Wow, I never knew that you could actually open the gates for the orcs! After all these years and this game keep surprising me! What happens when you do it? Is it like a game over afterwards or what?
+James Sarvan Yes, there will be orcs inside the castle fighting against the paladins. If you talk to Parcival during this event he will attack you for opening the gate.
@@jamessarvan7692 No, the game simply spawns in new orks. The orks outside the castle stay outside the castle. Also, these orks spawn even if you kill all of the beasts besieging the castle.
Actually the end dialogue does make sense if you try to focus enough on it (and its a foreshadowing of Gothic III), at first i was confused as hell as well, but after some replays i got it right (since you do need to see the ending once to understand that the dragon wasn't just smoking crack, or better said that there was something behind the crack), by being without name he refers that you are unbound by fate, something which applies to all avatars, the protagonist gets confused by the dragon because Xardas told him he was simply an avatar of Inos, Xardas not explaining the full implication of his existence, that he was unbound by fate and having the possibility to be an avatar for any god. The whole dialogue is made in a way where it implies that the protagonist feels a disruption in the "force" (for the lack of a better term) and the weave of fate upon meeting the dragon, at least that's what it was supposed to be if the delivery wasn't so bad/mechanical... it ended up more like two stoners trying to have a conversation. That said, this was a nice wrap up, loved your commentary and again had lots of fun, now onward to the Gothic 3 videos.
I haven't played it because, console, but I've heard from non-stupid people that Dragon's Dogma has a pretty robust and enjoyable magic system for a single-player aRPG.
Durmin Paradox Yep, Dragon's Dogma: Arisen with Steam support, 60fps, optional KB+M control scheme and a retail price of $29.99 / € 29.99 / £ 24.99. Not bad, I say.
to say the story is weak is moronic [to be polite ] do you know mass efect , elder shit scrools , souls , kotor , ripped of gothic and to a less degree the witcher be objective ps you are the best reviewer
+Max Payne you are right , i wasnt very specific about what i ment. -it is clear that he didnt get the story since you need to play it at least 3 times and pay atention to many little details and piece them together [ like in a souls game] -i said that he is the best becouse unlike the other reviewers [american mostly ] were clearly based on the opinion of amateurs who only praised its open world [clearly elder shit scrools fans ] -this guy got it that gothic is about overcoming obstacles through character progresion and player skill [and much more]

Dragon's Dogma probably has the best dragon fights.
I cant believe I threw beliars claw in the sea. I was trying to play all holy-like but now i regret giving the claw away
Your "citation" of Michael Hoge is out of context.
Hoge was talking about how they were prototyping Gothic 3 and looked at opinions about Gothic 2 that were posted at internet forums. He goes on and explains that an exemplary posts were "I felt the dragons were shit" and "I liked fighting against the orks"

Run away! ^^
+Durmin Paradox do you have the source of the scene from 13:33 ? or is this on youtube? i'd like to see the whole interview
+Durmin Paradox Let's not forget the deeds of our legendary friend Angar!

Problem is that you first went there then to Jharkendar, but i always first go to Jharkerndar, then to the Minental, plus Jharkendar is actually better suited to go to first because enemies there are easier and you get a lot stronger after it.
well, what about the turnips?!
you remind me of nostalgia critic
1:00 The seeker can be defetead, actually, he is quite easy :)
Yep, if you get close enough they can fire like 1-2 spells before dying. It's worse if you fight twi at the same time.
You gonna drop more videos bro? good luck!
5:42 Use scrolls to test spells.
If I remember right, the end boss is excessively easy with a melee character, you only need like 4 hits.
Pretty sure you're playing as Tiber Septim in Gothic.
well I don tquite get whose the avatar of beliar is it xardas the sleeper the undead dragon or raven?
Great video! Are there any other RPGs you might consider covering? Personally I'd love to see a proper Neverwinter Nights video.
+Trash Lounge I was thinking about Neverwinter Nights aswell, i played it when it came out though, and i don't remember a thing about it. Got to check if it's worth reviewing first.
have you ever played hype the time quest?
so whens the g3 part coming out ?:D
and will you do a arcania one?
+JustCrumbz Soon and probably
+JustCrumbz Arcania is not longer considered to be a sequel to Gothic, or even a part of Gothic series at all. There's just no point.
It's just a terrible game overall and everyone knows it by this point
+Durmin Paradox Dude pls dont waste your time on ArcaniA. Just move on to Risen
Risen could have been such a nice game if the gameplay wasnt shit
@@durminparadox I guess probably changed to not
Ah I don't blame you I wouldn't want to play a shit game just so i can make a video about how shit it is either
A suggestion: mark spoiler parts for people who might want to give it a go.
Darksouls really is the Gothic of Action RPGs....wait...
The english synchro kinda kills the atmosphere.
4:35 you cheater!
Who tf goes to the Mine Valley before completing Jharkendar? It's a nightmare.
+James Sarvan
you have to open the gates if you want to make torlof your captain in chapter 5.
Cake Porter Really? But what happens after you open the gates then? Do the orcs get in? I don't get it!
+James Sarvan Yes, there will be orcs inside the castle fighting against the paladins. If you talk to Parcival during this event he will attack you for opening the gate.
@@jamessarvan7692 No, the game simply spawns in new orks. The orks outside the castle stay outside the castle. Also, these orks spawn even if you kill all of the beasts besieging the castle.
bell of awakening? what game is that from?
Huh. The opening of the main gate cutscene always crashed for me so I had to skip it. Worked for you though. Weird.
4:10 what does he say there? has to see magic system that is not based on...?
So are you playing Dragon's Dogma? :D
The main trouble is the English voiceover, both German and Russian are waaay better
please make a review of the remake teaser
As a german, I have to say: "Die Drachen waren scheiße"
I haven't played it because, console, but I've heard from non-stupid people that Dragon's Dogma has a pretty robust and enjoyable magic system for a single-player aRPG.
+urbium Non-stupid people lol. Same here never played, heard is good from people i trust.
Durmin Paradox And it's coming to PC this January!
WHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!
Durmin Paradox Yep, Dragon's Dogma: Arisen with Steam support, 60fps, optional KB+M control scheme and a retail price of $29.99 / € 29.99 / £ 24.99. Not bad, I say.
whoa, that's fucking awesome! and only 30 money! i'll cover it for sure thanks for the info man you're awesome!
to say the story is weak is moronic [to be polite ] do you know mass efect , elder shit scrools , souls , kotor , ripped of gothic and to a less degree the witcher
be objective
ps you are the best reviewer
+PIV "to say the story is weak is moronic... you are the best reviewer" WTF?
+Max Payne you are right , i wasnt very specific about what i ment.
-it is clear that he didnt get the story since you need to play it at least 3 times and pay atention to many little details and piece them together [ like in a souls game]
-i said that he is the best becouse unlike the other reviewers [american mostly ] were clearly based on the opinion of amateurs
who only praised its open world [clearly elder shit scrools fans ]
-this guy got it that gothic is about overcoming obstacles through character progresion and player skill [and much more]
All I can say about Gothic 3 is throw that shit out.
where dafaq Have u got uriziel
