    Remember when Cor Angar was known for being a disciplined warrior of purpose and suffered from headaches from the influence of the sleeper? And near the end of Gothic 2 he said he was tired of all the violence and wanted to seek out a peaceful life as a farmer? Then in Gothic3 he became some blowhard former shell of what he once was and was nonchalantly fighting in the arena for money and didn't bring up how he came to grips with his past... but was just like "hey! I'm making good money fighting now. have a drink on me, hahaha!" - After this moment, and the uneventful, uninteresting dealings with Xardas and the freeing of the capital city that I quit this game and never looked back. Gothic 1 & 2 are some of my favorite games, and Gothic 3 will always be the poster boy of disappointment until the day I die.

    Main DIfference in G1 + G2 to G3:
    in G1 and G2 they actually made dialogue based on how people would act, if they really lived there!
    In G3 they wrote dialogue based on a videogame.

    I am convinced that Gothic 3 was still considerd a Alpha when Jowood gave PB the deadline for the release. Kinda sad to think about what this game could have been. Anyway, thank you for all the work you put into the Vids and if you ever decide to make new ones i will be watching ;)

    • @VPortho
      @VPortho 3 роки тому +7

      They just wrapped up the plot to whatever they could pull off the quickest and the game was left to this alpha or whatever state during that time. If they had several more years to develop the game, they could've created one of the best games ever... Pity, the series had a lot of potential.

    Gothic 3 was my first open world RPG. When I was 13 - shiet, this game was the reason why I started missing school lol. Now when I played 1 and 2 I get why people don't like the 3. Still it's a lovely damn game, I mean the world feels very alive, the immersion is great!

    I seriously hated how they changed the orcs in part 3. The whole "the orcs on Khorinis were primitive savages separate from the orcs on the mainland" The orcs always felt mysterious and scary. In part 3, they felt pretty much like humans with gruff voices. All mystery and fear of the orcs was gone since now they talk and can actually align with you...

    Lee wanted to kill the king, because he declared Lees guilt in assassinating the Kings wife... even though he was inocente.
    Lee tells this story in gothic 1 :)

    • @roadent217
      @roadent217 7 років тому +30

      Lee's speech in Gothic 1, and I quote:
      "But the nobles didn't like me, because the king listened to my advice. And they knew I posed a threat to their dirty business. I hadn't counted on their insidiousness. They used the king's wife to get me. I was blamed for her murder. King Rhobar had no other choice. The services I had rendered my country saved me from the gallows. But they robbed me of my freedom. One day I'll be free again. Then I'll return and take revenge. *I shall have my revenge* ."
      So, Lee himself admits that king Rhobar II was played by the nobles, and even then the king managed to save Lee from an execution for a perceived murder. Doesn't look like Lee hates the king much. The rest of the nobles? Sure, the former general might slaughter the entire court. But not necessarily the king.

    Um, we actually know what happened to Lee and the King since gothic 1... There was a scene where lee was standing in front of the water dam in the New Camp, (where homer used to wait until you kill the lurker). He says something about the king's wife trying to seduce him, and him staying loyal, but the next day the king turned against him cause his wife told him stuff,
    10/10 would describe a story from 7 years back out of memory...

    • @TheSorrel
      @TheSorrel 8 років тому +14

      No, he actually tells you that he was framed for the murder of the queen by the court. And the King had no choice but to imprison him because he would have been otherwise executed. Lee himself told you that the King wasn't to blame and that he wants to take revenge on the court. And yet, in G3, he just wants to kill the King.

    I almost chocked with laughter, lol! Unfortunately, my experience with Gothic started with G3FG, then G3 and now I'm moving on to G2 and NoTR expansions (complete reverse, I know). But I admit, I kinda loved the whole open world concept.
    And here I am, after watching the review! G3FG is not a game, it's a corpse of a game. But now, even G3 feels like a toygame, lol.
    An excellent review, I must say. :-)

  • @GodmyX
    @GodmyX 8 років тому +2

    Perfect! That part with Bilbo had me rolling on the floor :D
    But you didn't pay attention in the Gothic I to the Lee's story, because it was explained there what happened to him (I think it was written in one if the books or some scroll)... he basically wanted to report some kind of corruption but the lords conspired against him and managed to persuade the king that he Lee had an affair with his wife. (I learnt this from G1, I think)

    • @4Astaroth
      @4Astaroth 8 років тому +4

      +GodmyX Yes this is true and a lot of people forget this point or dialog. Lee said, in the first game, that the king had no choice but to put him into the prison. Since the second game he is just seeking revenge for that but he knows that the king couldn't help him. It is a little bit strange that he who knows the corruption weakened the king now only wants to kill this king. The dialog with Lee where he told his story plays on the bridge of the new colony in the first Gothic.

    hm, people give this game alot of hate. But as an non serious gamer, this is actually the best rpg i've ever played (for me). If you just avoid some broken mechanics like finding the fire sword in the beginning of the game. it becomes major fun. also with the patches it really does help. I played gothic 2 notr and while it is really fun, I dont really like the early realization that no matter how strong you are for the first 75% of the game, some random npc will 1 or 2 shot you because every npc has like 70% critical hit chance. while in gothic 3, you do really start off as a wimp but the progression of strength is really satisfying. also Fuck wild boars, those things are a plague.

      I am not sure about that.
      Björn Pankratz sad that, he and his team want to build this new ip up and dont like the idea of going back to Gothic and Myrtana... and to be honest...
      I would not want them to got back to it either.
      The IP was raped by other developers and Jowood and the World Myrtana is not that interessting.
      And they would have to take Arcania in to account when they would want to continue the Story... but that would be hard and i guess the payoff would be underwhelming.
      The idea of a Gothic 1 remake with new visuals and a few more sidequest and stuff like that would seem mutch more reasonable to me...
      And as long as they wont call it just "Gothic" without a suptitel or something that makes it obvious that its a remake

    Actually that Paladin Sword is part of a quest, you need to retrieve it for a paladin. Also the thing is that there are a few very well hidden caves with treasures and there is some good loot. I also found it ridiculous on how good the orcs treated you, i mean they freaking treated you better then most human factions in Gothic 3 lol. I get that they respect strength but to some extent they felt more like the good guys then the good guys lol. As for the ending, i need to point back at my comment that i made during your part 2 of the Gothic II review, Xardas is bound to be an avatar, although he thought that by becoming an avatar he might brake free of the chains of fate it didn't happen, while he did get Beliar's power he didn't get the freedom of the Undead Dragon (he was not bound by fate as well), leaving your character to be the only one not bound by fate and the gods. That's why you can pick any side you want and learn from them all. That said the game is a mess, the main fun i had was with liberating the cities and walking around and exploring the beautiful world it had. One more video remains, and that one i couldn't even finish it or play it more then 1-2 hours... Hope its an hilarious video as well :p.

    That was a very lucid analysis. And summarizes why I dislike, in general, sandbox games. Also, I have the impression the game "failed" already in the planning phase with the setting and the plot theme of chaos-order- balance (for that part, the gods have been changed every game, starting in gothic 1 with plain zoroastrianism).
    I still like the game, and survived the bugfest before the patches. There are enjoyable things; the demigod state at high level, the exploration, the different climates and cultures -barely exposed-. From which, I liked Nordmar the most. It had kind of a gothic 1 feel.
    I always imagined Gothic 3 would start with your typical sinking before arriving in Myrtana (a part of it, not the whole continent) -so the hero conveniently starts weak again- by some strange forces related to Xardas, and the settlements would be hideouts of loyalists, convicts and new camp-like guys, and maybe some crazy faction.

    OH No! No, No, No, NO! Forsaken Gods! Why did you have to remind of of that awful game. May all the Gods be with you on that one. Jokes aside, i really did forget about that game. I dont know what your plans are when you finish the Gothic series but you could take a look at the "Star Wars - Knights of the old Republic" games.

    What can i say? Although i can relate to most of the Things said in the Video, i still had great fun with Gothic 3. Maybe it was because i didnt exploit the weaknesses in the Combat, or actually roleplayed as a faction, didnt really notice Bugs etc. ? In the end i still seemed to enjoy the normal quests and Gameplay although both are supposed to be repetititive. Its weird, i know.

      Yeah, me too. I was 20 years old when it came out. I had crappy computer that I played gothic 1 and 2 on but knew wouldn't be able to play part 3. So I got a better job, saved up 1000 dollars, bought a new computer and then on Gothic 3's release day I got the game. I loved 1 and 2 and never played anything as immersive as those games. I loved the story too and couldn't wait to see how the series would conclude. To say I was disappointed with what I got is an understatement. I didn't understand how a series with so much substance could have such a soulless and uninspired game in it. It almost felt like Gothic 3 was made by a different developer. It was really sad

    If you want that Gothic 1-2 feel try Content mod...it enchances the gothic feel but does nothing to combat system and adds little quests, new items and I cant even imagine G3 without it, and also you can download new textures for orcs and beasts that look like from g1-2 so for me as a nostalgia player of gothic series I am glad just for that atmosphere :)...but still Gothic 2 NotR rocks! :)

    10:52 If I remember correctly, there was this one talking Ork in Gothic I, who told you about the Orks of the main land (Myrtana). He mentioned that they were much more civilized than the Orks of the island Khorinis. I think he even said that they had a language and could speak.
    I agree that it's strange to have the Orks be like animals in the first two games, and then make them into humanoids in the third. But the devs foreshadowed this transition in the first game... So you can't really brush that off as an inconsistency...

The last metal gear game i've played was MGS1, i don't consider myself to be enough of an expert of the franchise to be able to say anything interesting. Also Superbunnyhop and Matthew Mathosis already did such an amazing job in covering the saga that there really is no point in even trying. And on Mad Max, again i only watched the first movie quite a long time ago, i don't think i'd have much to say either. Thanks for the suggestions though!

    I always say, if you can't make your core game mechanics work. Then don't do the f*cking game in the first place!
    1. Game Mechanics 2. World/Level Design, and never the other way around! Or you get a Gothic 3.
    Every simpleton can do static Levels and door triggers. But animations and especially complicated stuff like a combat system. Need to be done by people who now what they are doing. And they have to be prioritized.
    This may change by puzzle heavy games like Portal, with level morphing. But a Portal doesn't have much interaction, aside from shooting two colored bubbles and listening to sweet talking sentry bots.
    Gothic series, Rune, Blade of Darkness etc. what do you do all the time? You fight. Does the world change multiple times, or morphs constantly? No. You open simple doors with simple triggers.
    Focus on what matters most. And that is what the player is doing all the damn time. Developers Fix & get Yo'$hit together!!!

    Durmin Paradox has a talent of oration and persuasion. I am now convinced that Gothic 3 was fucking shit, even though I do remember enjoying it immensely in it's fully patched up content modded state. However, If Gothic 3 is a vast souless collection of fetch and kill quests, then what does that make Skyrim, which DP has stated that he enjoyed? At least with Gothic 3, the action actually takes place 'on the land', as opposed to 90% of it being restricted to cordoned off 'dungeons'. So if Gothic 3 is shit, why then is Skyrim great?
