Really appreciate your tutorials. This was very timely for me. I'm looking to use Affinity for making stencil designs. Is there a way to make any font into a stencil type format so i can export it as a svg. I would then use it with a CAD program to use with in it?
Hi @Imercor1, thanks for watching! When you say 'stencil font', do you mean making the font so that it has no floating empty spaces like the middle of an "O"? I'm not sure of an automatic way to do it. But you could convert the font to curves and then use rectangles cut into the empty spaces. I saw this video here which uses the technique in another program: ua-cam.com/video/OE6thnZYYRQ/v-deo.html I assume doing it in Affinity Designer would be pretty similar. You could use the Boolean "subtract" function. Let me know how it goes!
I'm watching the replay of today's video, and I'm just curious. You mentioned you chose a low resolution brush for the clipping mask on the lettering. How can you tell the difference between the resolution of the brushes in the brush studio?
Hi @GR-xf8vj! The resolution of the brush will depend on it's current size. You can see the size in the top-left menu bar when the brush is selected. You can change the size of the brush and make it a maximum of 4096 pixels I believe (that will be VERY slow, though, so use with caution). In the livestream, I just didn't take the time to make sure the brush was bigger. If you want to use the brush at a high-resolution, you'll also need the canvas to have a high resolution to see the full effect.
Thanks for the breakdown. I learned a lot.
Appreciate the response to my questions last week
