As someone commented out, I will repeat them: Just straight to the point. No bullshit to keep us engaged to your video. Thanks for valuing your viewers more than the views you got.
I know that I pronounced this word like 'leading experts say...' for years, until I read a book font electronic publishing that explained what you just said. And I went 'Ahhh!' Now this term actually made sense!
Also, it refers to the property of the font, not to how it is set. The minimal distance between the baselines, as you physically cannot move them closer together. You can always add spacers between the lines, but you can't make two pieces of metal overlap.
I've been writing frontend websites for fun for 5 years now, but every time I feel like something is wrong with my design. This video basically points out those mistakes! Thanks for sharing such a useful information.
Great video. A handy starter for newbies. One correction… in the print world, there are 72 points to an inch. (12 points to a pica and six picas to an inch.) Also, a small thing… the word leading is pronounced "led-ing." Rhymes with "heading."
thanks so much for this it was so helpful. I'm studying graphic design at uni and feel that some of the lecturers are so unhelpful with this kind of stuff, so thank you. It helped give a bit of a better understanding
Extremely good video. I'm not formally trained but have read oh so many books over the years and have been doing a lot of things right. Some things I've been doing wrong, but since I never knew what error I was making I've spent way too much time using a "trial and nah-don't-like-that-try-again" approach. Saved this one in my Watch Again playlist and immediately subscribed.
Hadn't imagined that a video with so less views would be so informative, to the point, and straight up absolutely beautiful in delivery. Kudos to you, you have earned a lifelong subscriber! Hope you grow more!
I have been interested in typography for years but never stumbled upon any good resources. This was more than I was hoping for. Thank you for sharing! Also on the next video I watched I thought that charity water is a great cause… subscribed 😊
Now I know why I love Courier New so much :) I was going to take a typography class but I would bet money this video covers most of what happens there. Thank you for this video
I come from the other (read older) side of the house; a rare bird these days, letterpress. This was a lot of information, succinctly put. I will say, my biggest peeve is ill-considered kerning. Irrational, perhaps, but it drives me to boundary of rage (I'm seeking help for this). Good work.
4:43 ahh monospace my beloved. Also the Open Type Font specifications are a thing of beauty. Its amazing how much work needs to go into such a necessary feature as rendering text
fun fact: in persian calligraphy (nastaliq) the measurement is "dong" (دنگ) which is 1 sixth of a dot (dots are cubical in persian and arabic calligraphy)
Great video however, I think that you will find that the point size of a typeface relates to the height of the block (oldie world hot metal) rather than the actual height of the character.
Wed, 11/09/24 I watched this vid after 2 weeks of delaying. I will take notes from this vid on sunday For the time being i an adding this in my playlist of useful resources.
Maybe it's just me, but I keep hearing these stomps or heavy bass sounds in the background that are throwing me off. I had to rewind a bunch of times to double check!!!Other than that, awesome video thanks!
I wrote sooo much more than what ended up on the final script. I wanted to include slab-serifs, neo-grotesque typefaces, and so much more. Had to cut a lot to make a more comprehensible video but I might revisit this at a later date to go into more depth
12 points isn't one inch, lol. 72 points is one inch. A sheet of US Letter size paper is 8½x11 inches, lol. You'd only be able to fit 6 lines of text on a page if 12pt were 1 inch. 😂
Ah, nevermind. The entire video is riddled with seemingly minor mistakes and misconceptions. Which would be fine if the the video wasn't titled the way it is.
0:00 "Typography is . . . . " - that's a rare thing on UA-cam nowdays. I just subcribed. 🙂
Thank you, I try to keep my intros as short as possible for exactly this reason.
0:00 is unclickable

Viewer > views indeed
In typography, “leading” rhymes with “wedding”, because it derives from how much lead-the metal-was inserted between lines in metal type.
:o
I know that I pronounced this word like 'leading experts say...' for years, until I read a book font electronic publishing that explained what you just said. And I went 'Ahhh!' Now this term actually made sense!
That's what I'd thought, too. So that jarred a little, but the rest of this video filled in so many gaps in my understanding.
Yeah, I came down here to say that. Really useful video, though, I learned a lot from it
Also, it refers to the property of the font, not to how it is set. The minimal distance between the baselines, as you physically cannot move them closer together. You can always add spacers between the lines, but you can't make two pieces of metal overlap.
Straight to the point no bs. Learned a lot. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!

So glad I could be of help, this means a lot!
Need a whole series on typography

I've been looking for something exactly like this for a while. Thanks for the extremely informative and well-explained content

Such a good video. Was constantly waiting for an ad, and was even gonna be happy about it, but no ad (pos) and still such quality!

Now this. This is fabulous video writing.
this video gets better the closer to the end you get. There's lotta great advice there
Dude, thank you so much, you have no idea how helpful this video is. I've been having a lot of trouble understanding typography and color theory.
Man I learned more in this 13min video than I did in my semester of graphic design
I started the video ready to fast forward and the dude was like "Typography is ... "
Great video!
I am a simple guy, DesignSpo uploads a video, I watch it!

Loved it.
Already took a mooc about typography and DAM your video is awesome !

That is also called points (pt) in CSS, it's 1/72 of an inch
Such a great video !
Very useful!
Perfect introduction into typography, thank You!
Damn, good video! I learned a lot :DD
Love the video but also the song!! Whats the name of the song?

0:21 I see what you did there
Good video but disagree about sans serif being more legible that serif fonts. The vast majority of books, especially novels are serif.
0:29 which font is this????
Hello, does anyone know whats the name of the very first font please, thanks
10:08 what the figma
Great video but anyone notice how he reffered to inches whilst showing a cm based ruler 😂
what site do i use
I'm quite confused at 5:49 ; is 1 inch really equals to 16px?
emmm point isn't 1/12 of an inch. it's 1/12 of a pica, which makes point 1/72 of an inch.
🔥
bro it's called leading (leding) like pencil lead
Maybe it's just me, but I keep hearing these stomps or heavy bass sounds in the background that are throwing me off. I had to rewind a bunch of times to double check!!!Other than that, awesome video thanks!
Does anyone know the font program he was using @ 3:19?
i have zero idea why this got on my recomendations
NO SLAB SERIFFFF? I mean kinda but you should have named it

Fix the video thumbnail. Misleading arrow to baseline.
