@@SG-nd9bf So basically they were at this point in their tour smoking crack, alot apparently. Crack and Heroin are our two players in this story PERFORMANCE WISE - but the story behind the end of this is actually completely drugless and a real sad story. The Nu-metal crowd of some nearby band meshed into their crowd, being super fucking rowdy (if i'm not mistaken I think Mudvayne just got done playing) - They didnt want anyone moshing because it was getting super violent because of the meathead ass nu-metal kids that wandered into their crowd/set. Apparently a cracked out Cedric saw some shit he did not like in the crowd, and just ended the show by calling everyone sheep after their next song. Theres an interview with him explaining this better than I probably just did haha but thats the jist. After this song it went tits up. The reason I typed the entire lore out for ya is because some teenage girl ended up dying in the pit (RIP) at this exact festival - from Limp Bizkit's crowd - only days later after this video.
Fuck i wish i seen these dudes live, i did have relation ship of command in 2000 when i was 15. I went to 4 BDO's at Gold Coast but missed when at the drive in went
I believe Cosmonaut is the song just before At The Drive-In walk off stage at the Big Day Out 2001 ten minutes in when the crowd refuse to comply with the rules of the event that the band in fact reinforced repediatly. Later on 16 year old Jessica Anna Michalik was severely crushed during the performance by Limp Bizkit and later that day died in hospital of asphyxiation. Limp Bizkit in fact worked the crowd up and even publicly insulted the crowd control staff trying to help those in danger.
A friend limewired this ten years ago and it got me into The Fall. Thanks Cedric. They are the best band ever. At The Drive-In are definitely up there aswell.
omg thats gotta be one of the greatest intros i've ever heard in my entire freakin life...i want the tabs for it but this video is the only place i've ever heard it
Kelvin Lee Dong think so im on methadone and 7 years heroin on the streets and i Dont just see it ..always energetic performances no songs of nodding and no Crappy shows.
I just read an article about how they were smoking crack and shooting dope constantly around this latter part of the band. Surprised me really. But then i watched this performance. Cedric is fucking TWEAKING. And shit, Australia is known for its good speed lol
@seniorclapshishands thats great, which record did u get? I got into atd-i and the mars volta, and later discovered via interviews with cedric and omar that they were also fans of all the things that I'm really into myself like: doctor who, the fall, pink floyd and drugs!
So this is what happened and atd were at the time the biggest band in Australia's anticipation we were standing 3/4 back from the stage in a tin shed built for the ag show it was 40 degrees and a bunch of guys in front of us decided to put their girlfriends on their shoulders as they couldn't see the guys behind us started throwing bottles of water at them as they couldn't see more than one bypassed them and one hit the band they lost it and pulled up stumps I will never forget it as I waited 17 years to see them again Deano
@HaydenFromHell They're both very polar. Same artist but very different sound which I think demonstrates their depth and ability as artists. Your post made me decide to give TMV a third chance. But how do TMV feel about sparta?
@HaydenFromHell Right on... That's exactly how I've felt. Cedric and Omar weren't feeling ATDI anymore. Big deal. Just be happy for all the awesome music they made, and the fact that they are happy with the music they are currently making. Both bands are amazing for their own reasons.
I wish I lived in El Paso and was born 10 years earlier. I missed out on so much. Although, I don't think they should get back together, because their best creative energetic years are behind them, and if they put out a new record, it wouldn't sound near as good or the same.
I love ATDI, but that "if you don't know who The Fall is you're listening to too much hip hop and heavy metal" comment is easily one of the douchiest things I've heard.
the intro I can listen to all day.
"Will you guys stop crowd surfing? You're fucking hurting him."
I love you jim lmao
I love this man. So much lore behind this show. And god DAMN they were on some GOOD Australian speed or something haha
What’s the lore

@@basedsouljah do you have the link for that interview? I'd love to listen to it.
RIP Mark E Smith
At the drive in are the best band I have discovered this year.

actually most TMV fans are also ATDI fans. it's about 50-50. i personally love 'em both. and Sparta too, for that matter.
earth is better because of this
A friend limewired this ten years ago and it got me into The Fall.
Thanks Cedric. They are the best band ever.
At The Drive-In are definitely up there aswell.
The drummer held this band together 😂❤
Jim Ward and Paul did too
omg thats gotta be one of the greatest intros i've ever heard in my entire freakin life...i want the tabs for it but this video is the only place i've ever heard it
Agreed , it’s so beautiful
omar can unplug his guitar and play around with the plug... wouldve been the same
Ehh, better in some parts, worse in others
Hahaha i love how he talks about the fall.
This was one of my favorite songs before I knew it was dedicated to my favorite artist, Mark Smith.
"If you dont know who The Fall is, youre listening to too much Hip Hop and Heavy Metal."
Righteous in the extreme
Those harmonies!
The intro gets me every single time
Acid or not, this is a fiiiine group at their height both as a creative force and as performers, you can't do better than this
he isnt a bad guitarrist, he is on drugs lol
I come back to this video every few months or so. I get a huge, energetic pickup every time. :)
Big Day Out, ya!
I never expected to here Omar call out the Fall! I feel so hip now, my eyes are watering...
Love it!
PTxS
i used to listen to this all the time in highschool!!
Never gets old
Oi Oi. There’s nothing wrong with listening to hip hop and At The Drive In.
"Too much" is the takeaway...;)
Hell of a performance, ATDI have always gigged like this live. I kinda love it haha
werent they heavy into opiates at this time? that would explain the crazy guitar playing by omar
Kelvin Lee Dong think so im on methadone and 7 years heroin on the streets and i Dont just see it ..always energetic performances no songs of nodding and no Crappy shows.

it reminds of noise rock, so awesome.
The intro's soooo nice!

They are back!!!!
Yeahhh!!!
Love The Opening To This.
=]
I remember trying to D/L this video back in the dial-up days and watching whatever bit that was downloaded.
I think they walked off after this track due to the crowd surfing ...... best 15 minute gig in history....
Every so often i rewatch this vid to remember how sic live Atdi was...
YEAH!!! AT-THE-ONE-OF-MY-FAVS!!!
most awesome live band ever
iconic.
The fall brillent intro and mark e smith one of the great music stars and at the drive in my day mars volta is good but we need more at the drve in
mmmm. heard this at Benicassim! favorite band of all time
@seniorclapshishands thats great, which record did u get? I got into atd-i and the mars volta, and later discovered via interviews with cedric and omar that they were also fans of all the things that I'm really into myself like: doctor who, the fall, pink floyd and drugs!
this is great shit! now im big fan atdi ...reunion 2010 !
ATDI ♥ The Fall
So this is what happened and atd were at the time the biggest band in Australia's anticipation we were standing 3/4 back from the stage in a tin shed built for the ag show it was 40 degrees and a bunch of guys in front of us decided to put their girlfriends on their shoulders as they couldn't see the guys behind us started throwing bottles of water at them as they couldn't see more than one bypassed them and one hit the band they lost it and pulled up stumps I will never forget it as I waited 17 years to see them again Deano
da boys kick ass
Vuelveeen!!
dude...I Love The Fall!
@HaydenFromHell They're both very polar. Same artist but very different sound which I think demonstrates their depth and ability as artists. Your post made me decide to give TMV a third chance. But how do TMV feel about sparta?
God I loved the intro.:)
I have to see this band live before I die
i wish they toured to more places this year :/
missed the boat likewise, knew of Invalid Letter Dep't from JJJ airplay. Shame they r no more .Live performances are frenzied and flippin awsesome
Back then he was young, inexperienced and on dope. Check him out live nowadays.
@HaydenFromHell
same man, they are both some of my favourite bands.
wasnt this when cedric bleated like sheep?
well said
the wiggles in the stage floor just noticed that.
CARALHO QUE BANDA
Seriously where you been at?
lol the introduction was great.
reunion please!!! maybe 2010 they had a good 9 years apart right? i want them back.
🤳🏹💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Exactly. =)
They're so fucking good live
This show was fucking legendary...
escola demais
yo what head is omar using?
@44eelz ...two are mexican-american, one is puerto rican, one is from lebanon and one is anglo
@Saintgutfree524 I concur. I adore The Mars Volta, they're the reason I began listening to ADTI.
the fall is great, ATDI was enormous
nice :D
Reunion in 2012!!
@HaydenFromHell Right on... That's exactly how I've felt. Cedric and Omar weren't feeling ATDI anymore. Big deal. Just be happy for all the awesome music they made, and the fact that they are happy with the music they are currently making. Both bands are amazing for their own reasons.
Only true atdi fans understand Omar was trying to transcend time and space
I hope ATDI announce a reunion at midnight tonight Soundgarden-style.
1:46 I love how Omar replaced the flag
orange head an marshall cab?
lawl that stage is a wiggles stage
ATDI are like the drug fkd equivalent of Fugazi 🤘😁
@Zadan Well I didn't know the context. I understand that, but they do this all the time, not just in remembrance of a recent tragedy.
I wish I lived in El Paso and was born 10 years earlier. I missed out on so much. Although, I don't think they should get back together, because their best creative energetic years are behind them, and if they put out a new record, it wouldn't sound near as good or the same.
@raiders545 I didn't really think about it that way, thanks. As for the album, yeah, I'd probably be the same.
@mikemai123 ... are they all mexican except for the rhythm guitarist?
If only we could somehow get Bear Vs. Shark back together..
dam It's sad they only played like 4 songs that day they loooked like they were on fire tat day
haahahahaah thank makes me chuckle lol
Jim said it.
why are you advertising your friends band or your band on ATDI vids?
@isoleamebuthappysoul True.
I love ATDI, but that "if you don't know who The Fall is you're listening to too much hip hop and heavy metal" comment is easily one of the douchiest things I've heard.
And the 'please stop crowd surfing' thing.
J. Deiss Why? It is about safety...
Arian hmn Yeah but it seems kind of douchey.
Just a little.
+J. Deiss Maybe, but it is not inappropriate.. and fuck it there is such a thing as too much hip hop and heavy metal.
+Cletus Starfish He's right though.
They have reformed.
@rochoa11 I am hoping so hard for that reunion that it hurts!
Haha "If you don't know who The Fall is, you're listening to too much Hip Hop and Heavy Metal"
Sucks they cut their set so short xD listen to the music and look at them on stage, this music MAKES you wanna let loose
Is it just me or does the stage have half of The Wiggles' logo on it?
anyone catch cedric nearly throwing the micstand into the photographers at 2:35...OUTRAGEOUS!
@HaydenFromHell As do I. I got into TMV first but I've been stuck on listening to ATDI so much lately.
3:30 Off the funking chain!
