At the Drive-In - Pattern Against User live on Channel V

- At the Drive-In performing "Pattern Against User" for Channel V in Australia. This was one of their last shows before they went on hiatus, and eventually broke up.
Cedric and Jim's voices always sound great together.
Actually the Coldplay "shout out" is not sarcastic at all. If you recall, Coldplay were not treated with the same disdain back then. The two bands became friendly at the Big Day Out Festival in Sydney. There were actually talks in 2001 of a Jim Ward/Guy Berryman (Coldplay bass player) alt-country project that never really got off the ground. Ward's alt-country prowess can currently be seen in the band Sleepercar. Really good stuff.
love that this comment is now 15 years old
Apparently, ATDI (Jim in particular) and Coldplay did become friends at one point. Quick google search:
"We end up spending a lot of time together and the big joke on that tour was that I just wanted to hang out with the pale guys since I was the only white guy [in the band],” Ward continues with a laugh. The friendships blossomed to hospitality, with Ward recalling that when At the Drive-In cancelled the last dates of their 2001 European tour, they stayed with members of Coldplay in England."
I love this performance, one of the best bands ever in my opinion.
"Hyperdermic people poking fun at the living"
Just came to listen to one of my favourite songs as a child, I didn't come to be insulted......this video was uploaded 16 years ago
I think this is one of the best vocal performances by Cedric.
Breathtaking...
I don't usually use that word describing a song section.
But the bridge of this song... It's breath taking. A perfect contrast to the chaos of the verse and chorus.
I've been an ATDI fan for about 5 years now... and I just wanted to say that they changed my life, musically, and emotionally. They were the begining of everything I am now, and I don't know where I'd be without this band. Everyone wants a reunion, but if they ever did have a reunion, the demand wouldn't be as high...it's kind of like if Kurt Cobain hadn't killed himself, and Nirvana were still a band, and playing shows, the public wouldn't crave so much of either band.
Wow... "this is for our boys in Coldplay"!
Coldplay!
There isn't a single band like this out there right now. Fucking tragic.
this is the best live performance i've watched on youtube of ATDI!! Great song!! damn too bad they broke up!
simply love this!!
love it so much
this is amazing :D
This makes me happy at the possibilities!
This is an amazing performance...though you can feel the intensity within the band watching it...
Demasiado Buenos..! eran esta banda..
ojala se reunan de nuevo y saquen aunque sea otro disco mas..
At the drive in Rules..!
Glorious chaos.
awesome
Fuck this goes hard.
Great song ATDI is awesome, have really high energy i don t know why i found some MC5 stage vibe with these guys
amazin
Shoutout to Omars guitar change midsong
i want to see the interview after the performance!!
best live performance ever
just be happy u actually saw them
At the drive in reuniting is what my dreams are made of, they had my heart since I first heard relationship of command, after that I dove in head first and Ive never gotten enough.
Guess your dream came true
Best Song Ever
dude they were TOP form for this fucking song. brilliant live performance.
At the drive In!!! are back!!
Best band of all time!! Just one of a kind!
wormed our way through distant earth
fuuuuucking glorious!
you're right.. wish i could have seen um. still have tmv though
He changed guitars. When you see the last shot of him playing the Supersonic you hear him stop playing (left speaker) at the beginning of the second verse, then you hear him plug into the white Mustang :P
jim and chris martin wrote material for a project that will never be released. it's pretty well known fact, in el paso, that atdi and coldplay were good friends.
Yes Yes Yes!!! At the drive-in reunited :) best news ever
Cedric and Omar took the experimental, alternative, and Latin side of At the Drive In with them to The Mars Volta while the rest took the catchy riffs, punk sound, and more controlled parts with them to Sparta.
Darn it! Why wasn't I born earlier to hear these two great combinations shoved into one kick butt band with that most raw power jump around kind of feeling that made you just want to go nuts and wake up your neighborhood and get arrested?!
Gah...we need moar ATDI
this might as well be the official music video for this song if it was in high quality
You slightly incorrect, as well. Eva was the original bassist for The Mars Volta, and it was when her father passed away (I believe,) that she left the band. That's when they had the revolving door of bass players until they found Juan.
this song is f ing awsome just like the band
..true!
Hi, by this time I think Jim was getting into fernandes guitars. I think its a Monterey model, he's a featured artist on their company website.
my favourite on relationship album
THEY'RE COMING BACK!!
same here :(
i m 16 and i love it :D
true true.
Best Music EVER EVER EVER had
i have no idea how many times ive watched this video and i setill cant get tired of it..anywho..Im trying to find an atdi coverband or a band that sounds like them ..it would be really nice if someone helped me out..
aaah qué tema tan severines
Love the shoutout to Coldplay. Very different bands, both equally cool. Imagine if they toured together......
imo this is one of their best live performances. gotta love it.
if anyone knows where i could get a higher quality version of this video, please send me a message :)
i love it! WHAT HAPPENED TO LIVE BANDS?
love the part that starts at 2:04
Greatest drummer ever.
PS does anyone know what guitar jim uses i know its a copy of a les paul juniot but its gt different logo on the headstock +/
does anybody know what jim screams at the beggining of the chorus (BLABLABLA, pattern against user, dilated...)? it is not in the booklet lyrics...
Heh-heh.
I never would've guessed.
That's wild, man
to grox, actually they never broke up, technically they're still on hiatus, and cedrix recently said that they may actually be coming back sometime soon.
"Fifteen thousand two hundred and eleven pedals at last count"
Love that :]
best band ever
as this clock keeps tickin away
will time be hesitated?
@lengrandband He's a fairly renowned guitarist, this is earlier in his career but look at The Mars Volta or his solo stuff. I wouldn't say he's hitting random notes, He knows what hes doing, but I would agree that he gets quite self-indulgent with his playing.
cedric and jims voice together at 0:59 is just awsome and perfect.
I love atdi, tmv and glassjaw!!!
actually, omar plays both the super sonic and the mustang in this performance, unless his guitar magically turns white. you can hear him not playing and switching right after the first short solo.
but thats why we love him lol
man!!
ATDI rules!
thats all
good music for good people
take care
T'was the 90's. He was pretty sweet as far as hosts went in Australia back then.
Holy shit, Omar with a mustang!
hahha they look so enthusiastic about talking to that guy
gimmie a link to this interview and i will gladly read it.
@ArtTheAmo ¿?what did he say about Coldplay??
AT THE DRIVE IN FUCKING ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
What does he say about coldplay in the beggining?
hmm dunno dude, had a quick look on gibson's website but i cant find the juniors apart from billie joe's sig one. might be discontinued - i've heard jim is a collector
"This station is non-operational" would imply that the station is not going to be operational in the future.
I noticed that too John371
@bostonjoemattson The comment is at this video in particular.
I seriously think that, if these guys got back together, it wouldn't be a shitty reunion at all. It would probably be just as powerful as it was before.
Omar went tho the volta too he writes all the music
damn, they were ace right before they broke up.
@deafcon4 Is Omar EVER in tune?
Is the Video of the following Interview also on youtube? :)
@ChonnyChimole Definitely dude! Soon as that part starts at 0:23 i can start to hear similarities to fugazi. Fugazi and ATDI are both awesome so its also not a bad thing haha
I don't know what that host was on, but I want some of that shit
They Say Runaway.
"cut away" is what he yells in one armed scissor
man, i wish they were better live.
still a great band!
Paul's in Mars Volta too.
I like how they give a shout out to coldplay in the beginning.
@canesrule96 they already have dude. omar and cedric mentioned that all the members of atd-i met at omars house about a year ago... yeah.
Where exactly did he say this
I,m new to atdi and all I can say is wow.I tried on some mars volta , still waitng for it to grab me.I have to agree with Cedric's view point, they have advanced so much that I can't comprehend it , way to take the average listener out of the equation.look foward to an ATDI REUNION
i think they were doing what they usually do when they start thier set, cedric dedicates a song to a pop band or he says he's a different band. "we're mudvayne" TMV fans will recognize.
Is it just the weird color at the beginning, or did Omar change guitars? In the first bit he's playing his black SuperSonic, and than towards the middle it looks like he's playing a white, Mustang maybe, maybe a duoSonic? I've never seen him play anything other than his SuperSonic during At The Drive-In.
Relationship of Command is up there with Pet Sounds!
repost with better sound quality please>>?? LOVE THE DRIVE IN
@kevinsomnia thats so true but still TMV and sparta are so different. but still everyone will find something great in those 3 amazing bands
