Cool factoid: the guitarist and also backing vocalist, Jim Ward, now in Sparta, said that this song was conceived by accident, by the band trying to rehearse "Unsung" by the band Helmet. They then started writing a song and original music content, based on a poem that Cedric had written about after watching the 80s movie Alien.
I can definitely hear Unsung in this song, at some portions. Especially the drumming and bass stop-and-go.

I remember the first time I saw this video on MTV2, back when MTV2 had just arrived and only played videos. It seems crazy to think about that this was 2000, I was only 14, yet the memories of this video still seem so vivid because it was so different from everything else they played. I can't believe how much time has gone by, and it makes me wonder how many others were influenced by this video thanks to MTV2. MTV gets a lot of hate but at least they got some things right over the years.

    Yes this is the campaign
    Slithered entrails
    In the cargo bay
    A neutered is the vastness
    Hallow vacuum check the
    Oxygen tanks
    They hibernate
But have they kissed the ground
Pucker up and kiss the asphalt now
    Tease this amputation
    Splintered larynx
    It has access now
    Cut away, cut away
    Send transmission from
    The one armed scissor
    [x3]
    Cut away, cut away
    Banked on memory
    Mummified circuitry
    Skin graft machinery
Sputnik sickles found in the seats
    Self-destruct sequence
    This station is non-operational
    Species growing
    Bubbles in an IV loitering
    Unknown origin
Is this the comfort of being afraid
    Solar eclipsed
    Black out the vultures
    As they wait
    Unknown, unknown
    Unknown, unknown, yeah
    Cut away, cut away
    Send transmission from
    The one armed scissor
    [x3]
    Cut away, cut away
    Dissect a trillion sighs away
    Will you get this letter
Jagged pulp sliced in my veins
    I write to remember
Cause I'm a million miles away
    Will you get this letter
Jagged pulp sliced in my veins
    I write to remember [x3]
    Cut away, cut away
    Send transmission from
    The one armed scissor
    [x3]
    Cut away, cut away
    Cut away, cut away [x2]

I was fortunate enough to see "At The Drive In" back in '98 at the Troubadour in Hollywood. I believe it was right before their EP "Vaya" came out. The Icarus Line opened for them and the entire show was an amazing experience. I had never heard of them prior to this show, and after hearing their unique sound, they've been one of my favorites ever since. They get so into the music on stage, and are constantly moving....Awesome group!!!

I found a different version of this video in higher quality on an old VHS tape of mine. It was recorded off of BlueTorch TV, an old skateboard, BMX, snowboard TV program. If anyone's interested I could upload it onto a different channel than the one I'm using to comment.

Is that the one where there's a couple clips kind of showing the back of a boat motoring through the water? Cuz I seem to remember this video just something about a boat going through the water I don't know I could be mistaken

    • @AnklepantsSkateZine
      @AnklepantsSkateZine 9 років тому +1

Hanky Cuntpunt Yes, that's the one! It's got a bunch of random artsy shots of things mixed with shots of the band. The boat clip (filmed from inside, facing backwards) stands out to me, too.
