  • Timi Yuro described Larry Bright's singing style, "...everyone thought he was black. He was incredible". This is Bright's 1963 My Hands Are Tied (b/w Surfin' Queen) release on the Del-Fi label. Billboard magazine listed it in an Apr-63 issue. A release of My Hands Are Tied by Peter James (who some collectors believe is PJ Proby) was listed the following month in a Billboard May-63 issue. No recording date is available for either version. The Peter James version can be found on UA-cam as well. My Hands Are Tied was written by Joy Byers.
Larry Bright and PJ Proby (known as Jett Powers then) were at one time members of a house band at the Sea Witch, an Eddie Cochran and Sharon Sheeley hangout on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

I first heard Larry Bright doing "I Saw Her Standing There" on his 1971 recording and thought he was black! This is really good swamp rock - and yes, he still sounded as thought he could have been black - and it doesn't sound like he's "putting it on," either.
