@@schrisdellopoulos9244 Same reason Phil Hartman put up with his abusive wife. Far too many kind, gentle individuals fall victim to overbearing narcissists.
When you're husband has just been murdered and your first statement is, "I don't care about who shot him" and then you ask the police to write a letter saying you definitely didn't do it, you certainly are not doing yourself any favors toward looking particularly innocent....
That cop interviewing her must have left that room laughing at how easy that was. She blew it the moment she opened her mouth. “ I don’t even care who killed him I just want him back” and the Oscar for worst adapted screenplay goes to…
I don't think they had the perfect marriage as everyone thought. I think Nancy was fed up with Dan's growing collections of 'junk' as she called it but then corrects herself to say that everything he picked up had a purpose for a future project or somebody would need it. The amount of $ it cost to toss, give away or put into storage all of Dan's cooking and gardening tools. I wonder why he let the blackberry bushes overgrow v harvesting and cutting back

I have been an aspiring writer my whole life but never felt it was good enough to get published. Nancy gives me hope that even I can publish books. Thanks for inspiring me with her dribble.
A true artist never completes a work, they simply abandon it. I forget who said those words, but perhaps you should take heed. A writer will always believe their work can be improved; that “one more pass should do it” Eventually you need to step away and send it out into the world as is. If it is rejected, you can always take another crack at it, but you need to just close your eyes and leap or you will only ever be “aspiring”.
I came down to the comments to write literally this exact comment. If faced with the prospect of murdering someone - and my conscience doesn't kick in - my fear of a scathing review on That Chapter will.
I hope he does something similar for musicians. For whatever reason, there seem to be a lot of would-be songwriters and rappers who end up killing someone and being featured in Mike's videos.
Outstanding Mike! We got Captain Mike back, the life insurance dance and a new book review segment. Thanks for all of the hard work you put into your videos and also for taking one for the team and reading those terrible books! We love ya too 💙
I've been "writing" a book for over a decade now. A whole lot of my procrastination is "It's just not good enough". If this woman could publish that many books when they are written THAT badly....I think I'll be ok.
LOL - "It's just not good enough" - that is the comment of a TRUE WRITER! While we're on the subject of writers (authors) - there was another case that Mike covered where the husband was the murderer (I think he posted pictures of her deceased on social media) and he was also a TERRIBLE author (and a huge narcissist) .... I wonder if there's a connection between writing shitty books and murder....... 😋
The Freudian slip, "defend myself from the truth" is classic. The cackle, then condescending "sorry" while on the stand is just mind boggling. She truly thought she could outwit the world. Why not divorce him and get half, like most greedy narcissistic spouses would opt for?
Please please please, for the love of all things holy and righteous, continue letting your personality shine through your work and letting your creative side do its thing. I absolutely adore the little things that lighten the mood of the case and make these horrific events more palatable. I love true crime but I have a special place in my heart for the way you present things. I’ll admit that a few years ago I watched a video and for whatever reason it didn’t really knock my socks off, but later I gave it a second try and it’s really your personality and YOU that makes these videos so good. I know these parasocial interactions are strange, as the viewer/audience feels a sense of “knowing” creators who have literally never even heard of them, but in this day and age where isolation is more prevalent than ever, your charm can brighten my day, and that little bit at the end where you tell people to take care of themselves and others, “because I love ya” can be the only time someone hears something like that in their day to day life, and it’s very comforting and heartwarming. Thanks for what you do, you’re great at it, and you’re appreciated. I hope you take your own advice and also make sure to take care of yourself Mike, because I love ya.
"A very male look of supreme satisfaction played across his face." 😅 As someone who is writing a novel in my off time, I laughed out loud at this l passage.
I also want to become a writer someday and have been working really hard on this one fanfiction story for something. I constantly worry that my writing is bad, but GEEZ. That’s just, that’s just horrible! 😂 Also good luck with your story as well!! If it’s alright to ask, what’s it about? 😄
The fact that you subjected yourself to her books and all of that self-abuse, just for our benefit, really proves your love. An extra gold star for you, Mike. We love you too.
Holy SCHEISSE! I live for the _"let's give it a goo",_ but my day was delivered _transcendent_ by the *CAPITAN* hat and *life insurance* montage. All in single video. _Thank you!_ You're an absolute legend, Mike 💕💋
I had to dig deep to find this comment! Yes! I’m glad to see the old “Capitan” hat back. I live for the life insurance/ inheritance montage music and dances. It give a much needed reprieve while discussing such a dark topic. Thank you Mike!
I've put off giving this one a goo for a couple of weeks simply because I live here in Portland and we were completely Brophy overloaded! I'm glad you did this one Mike because Chef was a wonderful human who deserved so much better than Nancy.
Watching her start to contradict herself on the stand and then look at her lawyers all worried was the most satisfying part of her trial. Besides the verdict. She really did think she'd get away with it.
@@MirandaSinistra Right? Her arrogance is so off-putting! Even when the cops were telling her about Dan's death, sure she just couldn't help herself with her "yes I know, I deduced it cuz I'm smart, I didn't need you to tell me" schtick.
I just don’t understand how that is second degree murder. Pretty premeditated to me. You drove to the mans job and killed him in cold blood. In his happy place no less. No heat of the moment no passionate trigger. She had plenty of time to think about your decision from the time you left the house. Another Great Video Mike, love ya.
Just a guess but maybe the prosecution felt that trying prove premeditation wasn't worth going into when they knew 2nd degree murder would essentially put her away for life.
Yeah just a prosecutorial compromise to ensure conviction, either way she’s set for life and isn’t going to kill again. You don’t always charge them what they’re actually guilty of, you charge them with what you can get a conviction for.
@@Big_Tex Boy premeditation sounds like an easy one here. I guess you never know. She could have said she wanted to confront him over something (but that early? and with a gun?) but it turned violent. Ah, whatever. She'll be 97 when she gets out. My mom is 90 and there's an outside chance (or better) she will see 97. She's not ill. But she's 90!!!! So she needs help with with things and that need will only increase. Mom has me and my family. Who would this woman have?
I've noticed that every video about Daniel Brophy has comments from former students or friends, talking about what a great teacher and friend he was, and how much they miss him. It really speaks volumes to the kind of person he was. His wife, on the other hand, clearly couldn't handle being such a mediocre person with a failing writing career, a shopping addiction, and a dull life (as she saw it.) Instead of being thankful for having a husband like Daniel, she killed him in order to have a more exciting life. I think she wanted the attention and sympathy, and was jealous of Daniel's achievements. She couldn't face up to how mediocre she was. She was a failed writer and blew through their savings, and was too much of a coward to take responsibility for what she had done. Absolutely pathetic. Rest in Peace, Daniel. You deserved so much better ❤️

As a former cashier, the "boob sweat covered debit card" is the most horrifying thing about this story. It gave me flashbacks of being handed soggy bills that were fished out of wet bras. Not as bad as the time a guy reached down the front of his shorts, into his undies, pulled out a bill, and handed it to me.
I have been subjected to that. True story: My sister-in-law is a nurse who used to work in an ER. A drug dealer came to the ER. I forget what was wrong with him. He was HUGE, very obese. He hid his money and drugs under his fat folds. Disgusting.
27:23 The word "GROSS" just casually rolling across the screen as Nan Bro says, "I'm not wearing a bra, so I didn't have my credit card" 😂😂😂 Made me literally lol. It's those quick, subtle little splashes of humor that keep me coming back for more.👍
I'm really impressed with this episode. I knew Dan Brophy, and I've watched a lot of true crime channels cover this case. You did the best I've seen so far. The footage that you used of the school is unique, and it really helps set the scene. You also really captured Dan's personality. I've seen too many channels pull the "he was so kind he was so beloved gone too soon TOO SOON" routine. Yes, he could be very kind. He was also a grumpy old goblin man, and that's a huge part of why people loved him, thank you for making that clear. There's another thing going on here that I really admire, and I didn't realize it was missing from the other productions I saw on this case. This blew up because she wrote mystery books, and I haven't seen anyone else cover her books. WOW they are bad. I kept pausing to read what you put up, and there was a paragraph I had to read three times before I could start to interpret it. That's just been missing from all of the videos I've seen on Dan and Nancy. Can you imagine loving someone enough to read that and tell them it's good? It makes the betrayal sting that much worse. Edit: Nancy is super lucky. In Oregon, we tend to clothe lady prisoners in sort of hospital scrubs in a drab denim blue. No orange jumpsuit for you, Nan!
Thanks so much for your insight, Hailey. I love the thought of this big ol' Grumpy Bear, a lovable curmudgeon who pushed his students to excel. I get the impression he was tough on his students, but only because he saw amazing potential within them.
I watched her trial. She was so full of herself, it's incredible! She was patronizing, arrogant, and she talked as if everybody was just there to marvel in her stories. I loved the point where she realized she completely destroyed her story with the discrepancies about how she researched a topic for her book, while at the same time knowing nothing about it in order to fake incompetence.
This is my favorite video you've done so far, and I've watched literally all of them. The book reviews were fantastic. "This is a load of shite" lol. I do love how you put humor in the videos where it's fitting, and it was definitely fitting here. Thanks, Mike.
I think - when he says, “let’s give it a goo” - Mikey sounds like a broken record….but a favoured broken record, that ya just can’t seem to see let go to the trash.
She can write more books now, "The Wrong Corrections Officer"or "The Wrong Cell Mate". Or maybe she'll write the "Right" series, who knows. All I know is she's right where she belongs.
Willing to bet "The Wrong Corrections Officer" is actually a pretty likely thing she would write and the plot would be: ex-Navy seal who failed to become a cop and is now a prison guard falls in love with a totally wrongfully convicted woman, and they escape together.
I just want to thank you for the hard work and dedication you put into every story you cover. I know nothing can compensate you for torture you endured having to read these "novels". Take care of yourself because, we love ya 😉
Mike’s iconic saying is now my alarm sound to wake up for work. When my alarm goes off it plays Mike saying “Let’s give it a go!”. I should probably msg him and ask if that’s ok or pay a licensing fee now that I’m thinking about it. I’ll do that now lol.
This video did two things: showcased how awesome that chef was and how much people admired him. It also made me laugh out loud multiple times, you absolutely nailed this video

I never met this man, but Dreading did this case a few months back and the comments had some of students in it. I felt like I knew this man who could be a bit cranky at first but that was his version of tough love and was a sweet ol’ man who love to teach ppl how to cook. Rest In Peace, Dan.
It's creepy to think that Dan was in a relationship with this fraud for years who ended up being a person who would just kill him over money without a care. How many years was she pretending to care about him? Dan probably slowly learned over time that she wasn't what she portrayed on the outside, except he probably never expected her to be this evil. How sad that these people are out there!
Mike, you are truly the hero we didn't know we needed: that deep dive into Nancy's "novels" in order to give us the back story... wow. Truly a man of strength and integrity. Thanks for a great video!
Omg, the entire montage about her books. I had to pause it I was laughing so hard! Thanks for always inserting the appropriate humor when telling these stories…it’s why we love ya, Mike!
As much as Mike states how bad her books are, I think he's still overselling them. They are truly godawful. The two I tried to read were The Room in literary form.
I had to stop during the review of these books because I'm laughing so hard I have tears running down my face. Mike is always funny . I absolutely love this channel.. But this book review is freaking epic!!
I can't tell you how much I am enjoying listening/watching all your episodes. I'm thoroughly impressed that you actually sat and read her books. That had to be very painful. :)
I was immediately hoping for the Clerks "Navy Seals" quote and Mike, my man, you didn't let me down. The "lobotomized minority" was the icing on the burn cake. Well done, lad.
Mike you out did yourself on this one! Was cracking up constantly. What is it with spouses killing spouses? Christian Longo is another one who did that, too.
I’ve seen a lot of videos about Dan. His students loved him and described him as having a very dry sense of humor. He seemed like a very cool guy. How Dan married such a narcissist is beyond me. Listening to that woman actually makes me mad! I’m mad for Dan’s family, his students and anybody that had the honor of knowing him. She is right where she belongs!
The fact she thought about swapping parts out on the gun was good. In all the crime cases ive been hooked into on this channel and the many more out there. Thats a first. Its actually brilliant.
Yes, I thought the same. Unfortunately for her, she did it very publicly and very hastily......if she had bought the parts slowly, over time, she might have gotten away with it - EXCEPT for her fake story to the police where she was fishing to see if she was a suspect.......that was the dumbest move ever 😂
Exactly what i meant. If her execution would've been more on point, not too many people would've thought about that. I agree with your point also, the call about the( insurance suspect paper), was a dead give away. If she did a better job with the Glock parts and then shut up and grieved. I think she would've got away with it. Good thing its difficult to think of everything!
I love where you're channel is going and how you've added so much throughout the years!! I love the life insurance policy dance and now the 80s theme background during this talk. You are amazing Mike!! True crime is an interesting topic and you've always gone about it the best way. Love from Colorado USA!
Omg, this is one of the best ones I’ve seen. I love the part where you are giving us commentary on her books and collaborated them in a collage of commentary and none of them really matter because it’s all garbage!!! Love it 😍.
I spent my career as a police officer, and the thing we looked forward to the most were criminals who were both arrogant and stupid. Nancy certainly fits that description. Thanks for the videos, Mike.
She's pretty darn arrogant and ignorant as all hell. Although I will say her idea of swapping gun parts was MAYBE KIND OF SORT OF her brightest of ideas.... still so obvious and stupid on multiple levels tho
I really appreciate the even higher than usual production quality and book review tidbit for this video. It tickled a part of my brain more than the "life insurance" bit that has been the ongoing inside joke of this channel. Saw a video about Nancy Brophy not too long go from another great true crime channel, and love how your iteration has its own flare. This applies to all the other "popular" cases you've done, too. Thanks so much for another great, very hard-worked and well researched video, Mike!
The Life Insurance Montage is my FAVORITE part of every video. I'm always impressed by your expert editing skills, the transitions you add, and all of the extra "add-ons" (like the book review) that makes every one of your videos a banger. Thanks for this one, Mike! I'd not heard of it before.
OMG, you outdid yourself on this one, Mike!! I'm from Portland and a little burnt out on this story so almost skipped this one, but that would have been a terrible mistake. Sorry you had to read those things but you made the most of it!!🤣

A true artist never completes a work, they simply abandon it.
I forget who said those words, but perhaps you should take heed. A writer will always believe their work can be improved; that “one more pass should do it”
Eventually you need to step away and send it out into the world as is. If it is rejected, you can always take another crack at it, but you need to just close your eyes and leap or you will only ever be “aspiring”.
How is it even ok to publish an article called "How to murder your husband"? Imagine if a guy wrote an article called "How to murder your wife".
As a writer, I now have one more reason to never kill anyone. Mike's Power Hour is straight-up SAVAGE (and I love it).
I came down to the comments to write literally this exact comment. If faced with the prospect of murdering someone - and my conscience doesn't kick in - my fear of a scathing review on That Chapter will.

Just a guess but maybe the prosecution felt that trying prove premeditation wasn't worth going into when they knew 2nd degree murder would essentially put her away for life.

I've noticed that every video about Daniel Brophy has comments from former students or friends, talking about what a great teacher and friend he was, and how much they miss him.
It really speaks volumes to the kind of person he was.
His wife, on the other hand, clearly couldn't handle being such a mediocre person with a failing writing career, a shopping addiction, and a dull life (as she saw it.)
Instead of being thankful for having a husband like Daniel, she killed him in order to have a more exciting life. I think she wanted the attention and sympathy, and was jealous of Daniel's achievements.
She couldn't face up to how mediocre she was. She was a failed writer and blew through their savings, and was too much of a coward to take responsibility for what she had done.
Absolutely pathetic.

Disgusting.

I'm not sure which is worse, that an octogenarian went braless or that she used her bra for a purse. I guess the murder part overwhelms my revulsion.

The fact she thought about swapping parts out on the gun was good. In all the crime cases ive been hooked into on this channel and the many more out there. Thats a first. Its actually brilliant.
Yes, I thought the same. Unfortunately for her, she did it very publicly and very hastily......if she had bought the parts slowly, over time, she might have gotten away with it - EXCEPT for her fake story to the police where she was fishing to see if she was a suspect.......that was the dumbest move ever 😂
it wasnt THAT brilliant, considering its one of the biggest reasons she was caught.
Exactly what i meant. If her execution would've been more on point, not too many people would've thought about that. I agree with your point also, the call about the( insurance suspect paper), was a dead give away. If she did a better job with the Glock parts and then shut up and grieved. I feel you bro, stay safe 🙏♥️
I've fallen on some hard times recently too. I'm sorry you are going through some things as well 😔 I hope you're ok and know people care about you.
Stay strong ❤️
Truly wish it all gets better for everyone 🤍 Virtual Hugs
A living breathing example of Dunning-Kruger. I watched some of her testimony in her trial and I felt really sorry for everyone in that court room that had to listen to that childish drivel.
Usually I watch Mikes shows the day he drops them but had to talk myself into this one. I have read about it an tried to watch other versions but could not stand her so had to shut them down.
Well Mike….. kudos my friend kudos. Bloody well done !! Watched the entire thing and it was fabulous. Condolences to you for enduring all that crap for us!
Your channel is 100% my favorite channel on the net‼️💕 Thank you so much Mike‼️ You rock‼️🥰💖❣
Man, I laughed so loud when you dipped off screen saying “down here” 😂😂😂
Same haha
It's like the opposite of a Vsauce intro! 😁🍍
I watch alot of True Crime videos and several cover the same stories. I have seen this case before but I never turn down watching one of your videos. You are hilarious and I love That Chapter ❤️ Thank you for providing my two favorite things: covering true crime stories and cracking me up through your humor!
Thank you for taking one for the team Mike regarding the trash writing, it is much appreciated. Your book reviews were hilarious. It is absolutely awful what Nancy did to Dan. He seemed like such a sweet man who was loved by so many. Long may she rot for what she did.
I love how the reason she thinks murder is hard is bc of the mess on the wall, not morals or conscience
