What a pitty, three years of ownership and only 3.000 miles. I am lucky to own a Spyder since july 2023, and I have driven already 15.000 miles! It’s a joy that should be lived😊
You would be MAD to sell the 718 Spyder. Keep it unless the cash runs out! I’m a 718 spyder owner and also my daily driver is a 997.2 Cab. That is a perfect combination- you have the Macan. Hold onto these cars as porsche are heading for hard times ahead due to EV sales. There’s nothing like this on the horizon in the future. Once it’s gone it’s gone
The value of that car will rise because they aren't being made anymore. I guarantee that you be sorry you sold it once it's gone. That car is now a collectable because it can only get more rare. Think of it as an investment for the future. You can always sell it in the future, and the longer you wait the more valuable it will become, specifically because it's not being made anymore.
Wohoo, another 5 points :) I still have the first car I bought when I was 16, a 1971 Thunderbird 4 door Landau. I've owned it 37 years and put it up for sale a couple months ago. It'll be hard to part with it if someone wants it. My dream car since I was 7 years old was a 1969 Dodge Charger to make in to a General Lee (Dukes of Hazzard tv show). I acquired a numbers matching 440 R/T, made a General Lee and was in heaven! After 4 years I ebayed it and it was bought and shipped from the US to Italy. I loved having it, an absolute dream come true. I used those funds and bought my first Corvette. After having the Vette (and now on my 2nd one), I don't miss The Charger at all. Thus, I don't think I'd miss my T-bird either. I made and have my memories in those cars, but the older I get the more I realize 'they're just a car'. I wish I still had the 1982 Camrao Z-28 I had in high school, that was my 'forever car'. It was stolen and found a week later parted out in a bad part of town. The tow truck destroyed it by pulling it on the bed as it didn't have tires/wheel on it. The car was ruined :( I'll never get over that. Based on my experience and feelings towards my cars, I'd part with the 718 and not look back. Unless the market will change and they will appreciate in value, its only gonna cost to keep it. With slow depreciation though as you mentioned, your cost of ownership may be worth the joy you get from having it. Its a tough decision! However, since you're even considering it, I think that answers your question. You don't seem emotionally attached to the 718 as you are the 911. I like my Corvettes (my mom and brother each have one as well), but my Camaro is the one I actually miss.
You know why to keep the Spyder, but you can’t explain why the 911 is “forever”. The 911 is a status symbol. The Spyder is superior and puts more smiles in your face.
I’ve sold three 911s in the past few years including a GT3 Touring but I will never sell my Spyder. In fact I bought a Boxster 4.0 manual GTS to add to my garage. These mid engine cars are much more fun on a road in my opinion.
I think he’s been misinformed here - either looking at values from 2023 or looking at advertised dealer retail prices not trade values. It’ll have lost something closer to £20,000 not £3,000
Cars like that don’t make money sense, but give it a few years and that could become a future classic, seeing how 993s and certain 997s have gone up in value is bonkers, with that kind of mileage it’s a collectors dream. For now until something else comes along I’d keep it, especially until no more petrol Boxsters are in production or being sold in the UK.
I'm about to take delivery of my 718 GTS (manual) Boxster here in Aus next month (August). If it were me I'd keep the Spyder and sell the 911. Having owned a 986s Manual and 981s PDK I can tell you that these Boxster's are vastly underrated as drivers cars.. And the 718 being the last ICE Boxster it's sure to become a future classic. The GTS is probably a better road cat than the Spyder
I daily my 911 and have put 15k miles on it since October last year when I got it. Your conundrum is a good one to have, as I can only have one car due to parking restrictions!
IMO, your Spyder is an "investment quality" asset. As you mentioned the current value has negligible depreciation with possible appreciation in the near future. The only wildcard IMO is the anti-ICE movement in the UK/Euro. ??? BTW, that is a wonderfully shot video! Mad skills man! I'm on a short waitlist for a Cayman GTS 4.0 myself. Crazy spendy but a a nice dream. Never stop dreaming!
Not sure where you live but if you’re expecting a new GTS it can’t be in Europe? Just be aware that contrary to the filmmaker, UK depreciation has been enormous on Spiders and GT4s in 2024. Trade values have fallen 20% from around £75k/£80k to around £65k as they’re now sticking around on dealers forecourts losing money so dealers are paying far less. Ironically GTS have held up better as they’re much rarer than GT4/Spider (about 1/3 as many in UK) but I noticed the trade value in my 2022 Boxster 4.0 has still fallen from £65k in 2023 to £55k now
I am STILL a proud owner of a 2004 Cayenne S. It runs well after all the issues and saves me numerous times over the past 2 decades every time I go up and down my steep driveway - in the snow. 718 Spyder is a great car and you will miss the open top - but more importantly, it can last because so much of it is mechanical and simple (e.g. mechanical roof). Great footage too!
Keep it. Yes, a car is a depreciating asset. However, a 718 Spyder touched by the GT department with low miles/km has a shot at being worth more at some point. In the end, it’s your decision.
I have watched your videos sporadically, going right back to your 987 days. I had an RS60 Spyder 987, so that's what got me interested. Also, I am originally from Cheshire, so your content is more relatable than most, as I know you're from that area too. I recently watched your Europe road trip video. As regards, this video that 718 Spyder for me is by far the best looking Porsche. I prefer it over your 911, but you know better having driven them both. I know the Llyn Clywedog area very well and have been many many times when going over to west Wales. So, the 718 Spyder in mid-Wales is nirvana for me. I think you maybe are working too hard and not appreciating what you've achieved and got enough. If I were you, I'd take a step back, sell the 911 and enjoy the 718 more. No one ever said on their death bed, I wish I'd worked more. We are not getting any younger. Appreciate the 718 and more importantly make more time to enjoy it.
@@eSysmanTech Not crazy....smart. For me the 911 has always been too common, too obvious. A mainstream analogy I could use is the 911 is like the common but flagship Levi's 501s red tab jeans. but I always preferred the less common and equally good white tab or orange tab. You're getting 90% of the 911 for a LOT less than a 911 and also being mid-engined the 718 is arguably better handling. The 718 for me is more desirable than your 911 as it is rarer and has more character and probably better looking too.
If you don’t need the cash urgently I would keep the Spyder next year once the RS production is over and the EV is rolled out, your car will appreciate in value .. so I see no negative financial impact for keeping the car for a longer period of time ..
Ur lucky to be in this position. I loved this car from when it was introduced bit sadly i can not afford to have one. Its a shame also to have 3000miles on it in 3 years so maybe selling makes senses but yeah keeping it would be nice too
For a drop top experience with a lot of fun for a fraction of the price you should have look at an 2019+ MX5. I have one now and love it! But thinking I need to own a Porsche at some point and have been looking into a GTS 4.0. With that said the cost/fun ratio of an MX5 is crazy good
6:14 I felt the exact same way about my 2001 Boxster S also in triple black! Every time I drove it, I fell in love with it again. I bet I said that phrase 100 times to people over the years. Now have a 2010 GT3, my forever Porsche, as well as a Macan S. Can really relate to your situation. I’ve actually been looking for over a year for just the right spec Spyder. 😂 Same dilemma though - would I drive it or the GT3 on dry weekends? Want to put the GT3 on a lift in the garage and keep it for special occasions only, but that’s a lot to tie up in rarely used cars if I also now add a Spyder. Certain I would miss the GT3 as you would definitely miss the visceral and angry GT2RS if you sold it. I would keep both and buy a lift… and then start looking for a 1998 Carrera S manual coupe in some shade of Blue. Sorry if this doesn’t help. Your videos are awesome! Keep it coming
Spyder is a special car that will be looked back on even more fondly than it is now. If is arguably the best all around sports car ever made. Sell it and you will come to regret it .
If you sold the Spyder, would you actually drive the 911 the way you drive the Spyder? You mentioned possibly getting another "sporty" car - what would that be? You have the best fun car you could have right now. Try to be cautious but not freaky worried about it and just drive it and have fun. If it gets a door ding shake off the worry and get it fixed. You may not be a rich as the folks you work for, but if sounds like you can afford to enjoy the cars you love. Just do it!
Unless the costs are crippling then life is too short to NOT enjoy both of these cars for the very different experiences they bring you. The usage means you will continue to lose little on either and possibly over time see a little growth in value. However despite saying all that, we/re talking an emotional decision and therefore only you can make that call. Still there are worse things to be having to decide! Kevin
I have a similar problem - third world and all that... a daily Cayenne and a Turbo S cab and a GT3 Touring. In the end the GT3 is going as the TTS covers so many bases. No, it doesn't have the NA engine which is extraordinary, nor the crispness of turn in that the GT3 has. But on a sunny day, or on a Euro tour, the Turbo cab wins more often. And there's a lot of money tied up. I understand your reasoning, and the GT2 is a beast!
Just bought a spyder pdk sold my gt3 offered a spyder rs but as previous owner of a spyder it’s good enough for me .Fortunately I have also an option on the next gen gt3 but may just keep the spyder.Previous spyder Manuel gearing too long to really enjoy on uk roads .Think you may regret selling
You spend long periods in Italy. Sure you work hard and long hours, but you must get some downtime. Could you keep the Spider in Italy for fun, the 911 in the UK for fun and the Macan as the daily and for commuting between the UK & Italy. Given how much you’ve just spent on the Macan (and fully baselined the maintenance) it’s definitely a keeper for a few years!
Thanks for the review, although i do not understand as the 718 Spyder is my fav car to drive but living in Marbella makes it easier. My second car is a Macan Diesel S for longer journeys not near the fun.
If you can afford to keep two cars, keep it. I live in Thailand. I have two cars; a daily drive Mercedes C250 coupe and a 2023 992.1 c2s. The latter is in gt silver with black/mojave beige interior. Just beautiful. I drive it every other day to keep it in good condition. I bought the car mostly to look at it. I paid about 302,000 British Pound late last year for it. Crazy? Import duty is so high in Thailand.
i think that you are not 100% coherent in your argumentation: the market is full of 911 , but the spyder is rare, so its value will be much more stable. I think that the spyder is actually a modern ..."oldtimer", it is classical looking but it is also perfect. I am convinced that there will not be many more cars like this in the future. If you can afford it, than keep it ! I work in China and the few times I come back to Europe I stick my b... on my Spyder (2021) and I have done already over 15T Km....what a joy !!!!
We did the B4518 last week..great road. No !!!... Don't sell the Spyder. I'll never sell mine...unless its for the RS. Spyder's are such a special car.
I just can’t seem to own a forever car….too many to sample and enjoy…interestingly this hobby doesn’t have to be a losing proposition as the prices lately have remained steady
Keeper, it's a convertible, and gt2rs will be your hardtop car.. I got a syper manual and a 911 pdk. 911 is my daily and spyder is ny weekend RACE CAR !
I looked at ALL the comments. I don’t see anyone mention the 911. You so casually mention the 911, you really have a GT2RS, the holy grail of all 911s! Dump the spider, who cares! You have a GT2RS!!!
So I wanted to buy a Spyder as well, but in manual form for that open top driving experience. However I rarely get to drive the 911 anyways. For me personally the solution could be 992 Turbo S. But I doubt it will be for you as I know how much you love your 997 GT2RS after all that work that went into creating it. That Spyder by the looks of it is 90k gbp, actually much more than I was expecting. There are not making any more, and it's pretty special, with the perfect spec you got. In real terms, with inflation an running costs you'll of course loose money, but I'd rather find a way to make extra to afford it than sell and look at that money sitting in a bank. Tough choice!
Beautiful car your Spyder. I recently traded my 2022 Macan GTS for and Audi RS3 both cars retain there value well. Like you said I worry about parking expensive cars. I still have a FVD Cayman 981 for my flat six addictions.
I sold my Boxster GTS 4.0L and got an allocation for a 2025 911 GTS t-hybrid. I also had 3K miles on it in 2 1/2 years of fun, but I wanted a 911 that was capable of being a daily driver, track car and touring. It took me 2 years to get an allocation and finally placed a deposit on a my new 911. The 718 GTS depreciated 10% from new, and I sold it privately. I would get rid of the Spyder and the 911 and order a new class of car, a t-hybrid. The depreciation will continue and the fun you would have with the t-hybrid will be worth it. The t-hybrid is for performance, not saving petrol. It will have better specs than either of your Porsches. BTW the Spyder won’t go full electric in my opinion for many years.
Chris Harris does some terrific videos. Parting with a loved Porsche is soooo hard. My ‘86…I’ve gotten so close to listing it but, no. When you have the 915 transmission, the last of the linkage, when I change gears, not only do I feel the metal gates, with windows up and top on, I can hear the click as it goes into gear. So darn satisfying. All this to say, yep, sooooo hard to sell a Porsche. Although, with the GT2RS in the garage? It makes selling the Spyder easier, I guess. JK
Man I pick keep them both and drive them when able. It may start going up in price when they stop making them. so think of it as an investment vs a car you don't drive a lot. Another 5 points woo hoo
Well, my car is NOT your car and my needs aren't your needs. My 911 is my forever car and it's a cabriolet so I don't need a Boxster. Okay sometimes I think I need a second 911 but you need the 911, the Spyder and your daily Macan.
In the beginning of your video, you laughed and exhibited joy as you started to drive the Spyder. The question is, which car gives you that feeling more. I’m biased because I own a 981 Cayman S and love the mid engine platform. Sell the 911. The Spyder drives better. It’s a convertible GT3. You can always find another 911. Not true the other way around.
You should find a way to keep that car. Chances are in a few years you won't see them on the road any more. They'll all be in a collectors garage. And the only time you'll see one is at auction. And they won't be selling it cheep. KEEP IT
It’s a special car but will depreciate as they all do. Be interested in an in depth review of the Macan which I don’t think that there has been. Looking at one myself but they are so expensive compared to a Q5 which is similar ish
5 points in the bag!! Won't you have the same thoughts again with the 718's potential replacement?? If/when Porsche stop making them with ICEs, won't there come a point when they stop depreciating and begin appreciating in value, especially ones with '1 owner'?? Are they still available with such low mileage for your 718's year?? You'll regret selling it the moment the 'new owner' drives it away and you watch it go.. Keep it.. 😉
I have always had 911’s including g gt3’s but switched to a gts Boxster 4.0 alongside an m3 touring as a daily. The gts is fun but doesn’t feel special enough as a weekend car so currekty considering a Spyder rs second hand but think prices may come off a little. Or considering a gt3 touring. Any thoughts given your experiences
Take the Spyder to Monaco for work! So much trunk space that you can bring all your kit for work and problem solved. ( I drive a 981 Boxster S and it will NEVER be sold in my lifetime)
If I were you I would just keep it. I have a feeling that any car you replace it with will also be competing with the 911 for drive time. But that car wouldn't be a fun or special.
It’s fairly simple in my view. If you can find a better use for the money you have invested in the Spyder, then sell it. On the other hand, if you don’t actually need the money back out of the car, then keep it. Many of us would love a car like that but will never be in the financial position to own one.
Pity that you can't enjoy that car to its fullest potential. As it's one of the all time great Porsches - of any model, it would be sad to see it go, especially on your first sunny day off after the Spyder has moved on. Good luck with your conundrum.
Blimey! I did 3k miles in my 1st 3 months, and that was this winter. Once your thinking of selling the seed is sown. Sell it and try something else. I won't keep mine long term either.
What sort of money do you expect it to fetch. I'm a bit out of touch on the spyder..... your 911 however 🤤 I would love to see that in person one day if you are at any events
You're thinking about this all wrong … you need to buy another garage.
The spyder is the one to keep. The 911 is one in a seemingly endless procession of them. The spyder is far better looking, and imo, far more special.
What a pitty, three years of ownership and only 3.000 miles. I am lucky to own a Spyder since july 2023, and I have driven already 15.000 miles! It’s a joy that should be lived😊
If it makes you happy. Keep it
Can't take money to after life
Keep them both, you won’t regret it. Whereas if you sell the Spyder you will regret it instantly.
Build a bigger Garage and keep them ALL! In the end, the Man with the most Toys Wins.
Keep your spyder and the RS , you found the perfect two car solution .
PS Keep both (and stop thinking so much)
The value of that car will rise because they aren't being made anymore. I guarantee that you be sorry you sold it once it's gone. That car is now a collectable because it can only get more rare. Think of it as an investment for the future. You can always sell it in the future, and the longer you wait the more valuable it will become, specifically because it's not being made anymore.
The mix of in-car, drone as well as arrival/departure shots really make this footage. Nice job. Bit of a conundrum though…..
Wohoo, another 5 points :)

Your car (Spyder) only lost 3000 pounds in three years! Unbelievable deal!
I think he’s been misinformed here - either looking at values from 2023 or looking at advertised dealer retail prices not trade values. It’ll have lost something closer to £20,000 not £3,000

Too many magnificent cars. Thank God I don’t need to deal with such problems. I just carry on with my Fiesta 🙃
I can’t speak to your finances. But, you are right, you’ll never get that thing again if you let it go.
If you can afford to keep it then you should. I think ICE vehicles like your Spider could become very rare in 5-10 years.
Snazzy one man filming and editing mate.

If you don’t need the money and can afford to keep it insured, serviced, MOTd then keep it.
Considering the current market it would make sense since they are fast dropping in price
Get the Spyder RS, best of both worlds!
Thanks for the review, although i do not understand as the 718 Spyder is my fav car to drive but living in Marbella makes it easier. My second car is a Macan Diesel S for longer journeys not near the fun.
You'll miss it once its sold, and it'll be very hard and expensive to find another with that mileage. Id say keep it.
Keep it! All new will be electric…..
What a nice conundrum to have! Good luck with your decision 🤞🏼
Keep them all.
Nice problem to have ! keep it !
Don't sell.keep it, it will go up in value.
Yep
i think that you are not 100% coherent in your argumentation: the market is full of 911 , but the spyder is rare, so its value will be much more stable.
Its funny, we have similar tastes, I have a macan gts and a 718 gts 4.0 (both in chalk). Both are great cars.
If you had bought a manual Spyder I think you'd be holding on to it.
I love the PDK in that car. The gears are too long on the manual, in the PDK it’s a bit better.
Keep both. It will be rocket in value. Drive the 911 less.
Keep it as a daily.
Can you have it secured parking in Italy
Beautiful car your Spyder. I recently traded my 2022 Macan GTS for and Audi RS3 both cars retain there value well. Like you said I worry about parking expensive cars. I still have a FVD Cayman 981 for my flat six addictions.
Thanks for asking...but IMHO do what makes you the happiest. Build a bigger garage!
JK
See this type of description is what EV owners don’t seem to understand about why we love ICE cars.
Man I pick keep them both and drive them when able. It may start going up in price when they stop making them. so think of it as an investment vs a car you don't drive a lot. Another 5 points woo hoo
30 days from 365 days it is sunny in the UK. Great buy 😅
KEEP IT
If you decide to sell. I’d be interested in buying.
It’s a special car but will depreciate as they all do. Be interested in an in depth review of the Macan which I don’t think that there has been. Looking at one myself but they are so expensive compared to a Q5 which is similar ish
Hey up sysman good vid liked your thought process but I'd say get rid or change that seatbelt colour at the least
Difficult when you have multiple cars filling the same role, to keep them utilized.
Keep it.. 😉
If money isn't an issue, keep the 718 Spyder. After Porsche discontinues ICE 718s, you will be happy. This from a guy that owns a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0.
Never sell unless you need the money.
Take the Spyder to Monaco for work! So much trunk space that you can bring all your kit for work and problem solved. ( I drive a 981 Boxster S and it will NEVER be sold in my lifetime)
981 is a great car.
5 points! 🙂 Thanks for the awesome views of England.
Well it was Wales but you’re welcome!
Bigger Garage!!!
With this latest roof design, it should be.
Such a beautiful 🚗 car
Pity that you can't enjoy that car to its fullest potential. As it's one of the all time great Porsches - of any model, it would be sad to see it go, especially on your first sunny day off after the Spyder has moved on. Good luck with your conundrum.
Cars to die for but German auto 'sportswear' underwhelms
M3 touring ... Sorted !
Blimey! I did 3k miles in my 1st 3 months, and that was this winter. Once your thinking of selling the seed is sown. Sell it and try something else. I won't keep mine long term either.
So great World und so few time. Don`t sell !!!
The closing shot shows you forgot your drone, while driving off. You better check weather forecast and spyder back there before Chris Harris finds it.
3k miles in 3 years. 😢
I got an Atom 4 new in May. 1k miles done so far! 😂
Nice video, beautiful car.
Why not wait for a while, enjoy the car a little more and see what the market does? Cars like this will extinct. This is peak Porsche.
If you sell it I’m quite sure you’ll get something else, then you might regret selling it.
What sort of money do you expect it to fetch. I'm a bit out of touch on the spyder..... your 911 however 🤤 I would love to see that in person one day if you are at any events
quick look at autotrader and looks like a 90k gbp car
