Minorin will always be my favorite character because she did something many people can't do. She made a sacrifice so that two people she loved could be happy. She could have easily accepted Takasu's love confession but she didn't. She knew how much Taiga needed him. Of course this is unfair to Takasu because he only loves Minorin but MInorin decided it's better to not take something away from Taiga. The amount of hurt this brought to her doesn't even show. Because she is mature enough to stay happy no matter what. I can't even imagine her pain.
while yes she is strong, i think the message that OP made in this video applies to Ryuuji's fondness for Minori, because Ryuuji is more attracted to what Minori represents, rather what Minori shows she is, and not who she actually is, Because Ryuuji is attracted to Minori because she is essentially what Ryuuji wants to be, but as the show goes on Ryuuji realizes that Minori's true personality causes her to put on a half-facade and "be fake" , a good example for this is the scene where they are trapped in the shed and Minori's hand is shaking, but she tries not to show this. That's just my opinion tho
There was actually a time when the amount of hurt this brought onto her did show...when she was near the doorway with Ami after Taiga and Ryuuji left and broke down crying and said, “When you trip in the hallway, your nose bleeds. When you trip in life, your eyes can also nosebleed.” 😢
What i love about Ryuuji’s and Taiga’s relationship is how their feelings sneak up on them, which i feel is very realistic when you fall in love with your best friend. They both only realize their feelings once they think they’re losing each other and it’s beautifully heartbreaking how they suddenly realize they can’t live without each other. I also think people fail to see what Ryuuji takes from their relationship, since Taiga is the one who’s more dependent. But Ryuuji needs someone to take care of, that’s how he feels useful. He enjoys making food for the people he loves (as you can see in the OVA), taking care of the house, etc. And Taiga needs him, and he likes taking care of her. But he also has these moments where he feels hopeless and useless and he doesn’t show that side to ANYONE except Taiga, because she knows exactly how he feels everytime. She brings him comfort and security, and she makes him feel needed and useful. That’s why i think they compliment each other so well

The anime shows the difference between the affection that many confused for love - towards someone you don´t know and perhaps you barely talk to, but you project actually into them something and picture them as perfect - as both characters in the beginning thinks that this is love., and between love from actually knowing someone very well - as you described, that "sneak up on them"
Ami is my favorite character. Even with her bratty side, the first second I saw her I felt a spark. She was so different and it felt like she was the perfect character I wanted in this anime. Actually ever since I saw her I wanted her to be with Ryuuji, but we all know that's not gonna happen. Ami's chatacter development and just everything about her made the series more interesting.

Things between Ryuji, Taiga, and Minorin could have went through a bitter cycle had she not forced them to confront their feelings.
I love how you broke down Minori and Ami's views on the relationship between Taiga and Ryuuji. I definitely agree and disagree with Ami. She's right that Minori shouldn't just walk away and essentially just box Ryuuji in with Taiga, because what if he could be happier with someone else? But on the other hand Minori knows what Ryuuji means to Taiga. Her self-sacrifice is completely justified (at least in her view). She knows she can live without Ryuuji. But Taiga? She's not so sure. That, and the whole "They were basically made for each other" thing...

I just finished toradora yesterday and man I'm just depressed going around watching toradora stuff to fill the void. But watching the show made me realize how sad I just actually am.
My personal favorite character of Toradora is Minorin, because at the end she seems to be aware of everything she feels, unlike the others, but still lies to herself for things to go the way she wants to, or the way she thinks she wants them to go. I think she's one of the most complex and compelling characters I've ever seen in anime (maybe in any medium), but in Toradora, any character could be anyone's favorite: They're all fully realized characters and they're the most strong aspect of Toradora!. Great Analysis, man :)
Damn we are opposite. Thats why I disliked her as a character. The fact that she knew but still chose to lie and not face them made me see her as the video says as *fake*.
She's not that deep. She got fucked over, though, by her so-called "friends". She needed help, yet she was always just used to further Ryuuji and Taiga's relationship. Her storyline really ruined my immersion by the constant realization that everything in it is happening because the author is trying to write a specific couple, not tell the story of five friends. What? Can you repeat the question? Oh, yeah, you're correct, she is indeed my favourite Toradora character.
Upon second viewing I started noticing that too but something that really got me thinking their might be some unaddressed issues under that cheery person was after the Xmas tree accident I'm no psychologist but it seems like she might have some sort of guilt or inferiority complex though the mask may have slipped earlier than that when She and Ryu got locked in that shed

I've heard other fans denounce their relationship and compare it to brother-sister or father-daughter, but I don't think that's true and you did such a great job of explaining why its not. Most people don't realize that the husband is the succesor of the father, protecting and providing for the girl is their main duty. And no I understand that sexuality is not in the fathers domain, duh. This is why a "he isn't her father" is a sufficiant answer.

Spoilers Alert: Although Minori views the twos relationship in a way where they shouldn't get in the way of them at the start and Ami is the opposite, in the end Minori is the one that gets in the way and Ami lets them be together without getting in the way even though she also has feelings for Ryuji. I also think that Ami is my favourite character. When she is first introduced she acts like a pampered princess with a side of her that looks down on everyone else. But after the halfway mark, she becomes a much nicer character, even while still scrutinized for her past behavior she starts doubting her actions and questioning her emotions that she neglected and became more mature. I also feel that her love for Ryuji feels more real than the others, seeing as he helped her out with her emotions, and even after falling for Ryuji, she starts to understand her own feelings slowly but because she knows how she is viewed by everyone else she would rather be more realistic and bottle up her love and help with Ryujis love life from the shadows.

Wow someone who actually caught and understood the nuance of the characters in Toradora! Most people I talk to about the series miss a lot of it, since that depth isn't being hand-fed to them, but the character depth is part of the reason why I love the show! That and the fact that I've never seen a more pure love expressed in an anime before, Storge was a very smart way to put it, though I feel it's an incomplete analysis...

Holy shit. I saw the title and was ready to come in here and tear some bitches apart. Toradora! is my favourite show of all time mostly due to how well the characters are put together. I cringe when characters do something that doesn't feel like it makes sense on a psychological level and Toradora! has the most consistent and deep characters I've seen in any anime, the closest I've seen might be Lain, but that's more abstract and easier to do. One of my favorite parts about the post-Toradora journey I've been taking is how a lot of people seemingly have something really deep and philosophical to take away from this series. I think that speaks volumes of the sheer quality of this series. It's a show that gets you to think, and I love that.
This is a pretty good analysis of the characters Honestly I watched Toradora when i was much younger, and looking back on it it’s still one of my favorites. It showcases the difference between crushes and true love. Both main characters not realizing what they’re doing for for one another is through love. If I watch the kiss scene I still cry haha. Thank you for the video. This has become my favorite love story and as a psychology major glad to see others looking into the little details. What I liked with the 2 leads is how through the show they are just always together, always thinking of how to help the other and most of it is more subconscious. It oddly never felt that awkword to me with these 2. But when they interacted with their "crushes" there was no chemistry. They liked aspects of the crush but greatly missed the comfort. Yet as soon as they opened up to each other they just became adorable together like it took little to no effort. Anyways just thanks again Ps, can I make a request? A discussion on harem anime. Not just about the pros and cons of them, but more of the emotions it fulfills. Like in this video how you refer to the fact that none of them actually understand love. Most harems seem to not just follow the fantasy of having many people you find attractive like you. But also the extreme immaturity and lack of experience. I'm mainly curious your thoughts since this genera is So massive right now and influences a lot of anime watcher's opinions.

I absolutely agree with Ami about the father-daughter dynamic- that is what they have. They are not particularly friends who enjoy mutual interests and have enjoyable interactions. Ryuji takes care of her because she shows she can't take care of herself- just like his own mother. If he is already being the adult of the household for his own home, he might as well take in the stray cat next door and maybe if he's lucky she'll stop clawing and hissing- not that she ever does. Taiga on the other hand craves her ideal of 'normal', and while her crush on Yusaku seems to stem from how normal he seems, she obviously enjoys the quiet and peace that happens in Ryuji's house- abnormal as it is with a loud bird and an alcoholic dependent mom. Ryuji and Yusako are like perfect replacement parents in Taiga's traumatized mind- Ryuji takes care of her and is responsible, and Yusako loves having her around and says nice things to and about her. At no point during the entire series do they seem like they are forming a romantic bond, they just confide in their secrets to each other. They are just too young, emotionally damaged, and poorly psychologically educated to understand that what they are pursuing and experiencing are kinds of love different from romantic love. If they had both been open with Minori about what their dynamic was and their goals in pursuit of romance, Ryuji and Minori could have had a healthy romantic relationship as equals, they both could have helped take care of Taiga until she could stand on her own as their equal, and half the drama of the series would have just been solved by like a 10 minute conversation where everyone comes out happy.
I know I am late to this party here with this reply, but I think you are spot on with this. Never once did this feel like a healthy "romantic" relationship and was most definitely like a passive father / spoiled daughter type bond. He took care of her, took all the crap she dished out like a parent would (physically and mentally) because they have no choice they are family right, though he was too timid and passive to actually discipline her so she could just do whatever she wanted and not learn about the world or how to treat people... and in the end the romantic stuff just felt very wrong to me. i think your analogy of the stray cat is an interesting and spot on comment as well, I had never thought of it like that. At the beach house all of this should have been solved. Minori, yes or no. If yes then that is done, if no then no reason to try and continue being nice to the stray cat since she literally treated him like a dog and tried to kill him in his house and showed "zero" appreciation whatsoever up to that point (episode 9 I think)...no reason to take care of her since he no longer needed her help with Minori. Ryuuji had shown absolutely zero romantic interest in her also up until that point

Maybe it's because getting older has made me more sentimental or something lol (24 atm & I think I was 17 when I first watched it). Although regardless of that, even after all these years it's still very unique & well-written compared to the vast majority of school romances found in anime.

Great video on my absolute favorite romantic anime. Really appreciate your application of C.S. Lewis' essay, The Four Loves, as well! I read that book quite a few years back when I was around the age of the characters in Toradora! and it helped me form a deeper understanding of the nuances of love. I only had a vague idea through having crushes, all of them unrequited at that point. It really resonated with me.

I watched Toradora for the first time last month... What a roller-coaster of emotions. I had to watch everything in like 3 days because of how enticing the characters are. I got upset some times. But it probably is because of how much I cared about the characters. 9/10

This really is the best toradora analysis video out there. Explaining the psychology behind the characters and giving evidence to prove it. Well done, really. I really liked the idea of the father dynamic its definitely intentional but not so clear. It's what makes toradora so amazing, you have to look further into it to find the answers.

Hey, loved the video analysus On one note I'd like to add that I agree with you on love not needing to be a burning blaze, but the dependency the characters have on one another is, what I think at least, the problem(at least realistically and in the long term). Taiga needs to be nurtured by a father figure and Ryuuji need to be a father signal personal issues which neither party are actually fixing by playing said roles as father and daughter. Its the equivalent of putting duck-tape on a broken pipe and leaving it at that. Eventually, something is going to give and its not going to be a good day. Which is why I don't think(once again I say realistically) it would work out for them, at least in the long run. Though its likely I may just a bit cynical on this topic. Would love to hear some thoughts on this.
I think that ultimately, Ryuji and Taiga realize this. They're drastically different by the end of the show, and Taiga's experience with her father causes her to reevaluate her thoughts on the matter. You can see this by the fact that she goes to repair her broken relationship with her mother before reuniting with him. She's learned that these kind of relationships matter, and seeks to be a more whole, well-rounded person before committing to him.
I think that the fact that both ryuuji and taiga solve their problems before meeting again demonstrates that they will have a very, very lasting relationship.
Haven't watched this show since I was 12-13 years old. Now I'm 19 and I have changed quite a bit, enough that looking back on myself, There is no familiarity with the me from 7 years ago, how I thought, who my friends were, how I treated people. can't relate to them, or even understand them. I have a lot of regret, and sometimes I feel lost. Almost everything in me has changed, except one thing, anime. Anime has stayed the same to me. While I don't remember anything that happened in Toradora I do remember one thing, I fucking love the shit out of that show. All of the anime that I liked, I still do, and all of the anime that I hated, I still do. Even if I forget, I'll eventually come across videos like this that will remind me that somethings will always stay the same. Thank you, Kamimashita.
I think the drama was very heavy, and the ending didn't properly lift the weight off the viewer. Pretty sure this was due to the circumstances of the time, the last novel wasn't out bevor the last episodes were made.

Toradora! Is a classic and still the best romcom anime of all time and one of the best romantic pieces of media. I can't get enough of talking about it.
i think kushieda and kawashima belong together, like kushieda has her bouts with her sexuality and gender, and i think they’re personalities match, they both give off facades (kushieda showing herself as happy and carefree and kawashima as kind), i think kawashimas bold and upfront personality perfectly contrasts kushiedas hidden, afraid personality. idk that’s my cup of tea, and i think around the end with the way that they gravitate towards each other as a way to cope w losing ryuuji can work as them coming together
I liked it. The referencing felt a little superficial and jumpy (with the latter being reflected in other comments), but overall it was a nice watch. It felt more like a reflective piece rather than an argument however, with the inclusion of your own reflection/s, coupled with 1st person pronouns lol

I was 6 when this anime came out. I really wish there was a second season to show their life after highschool. It would be good instead of leaving it off with her chewing him out for saying he loves her at the wrong time. Even tho that is one of the greatest ways to end it

Quality Video! I have a complicated feeling toward the resolution of this show, because my favorite character is Minori. To see her left in sorrow at the end hurt. In many ways it made it a bitter ending to a show I really liked a lot. In a way I wanted her to be with Ryuji to avoid heart break, but at the same time I didn’t necessarily love the idea of her and Riyuji together. I like to think that with her charm, winning personality, and awesome outlook on life she went on to find happiness.
People say Minori was hurt the most but imagine being able to see this whole thing unfold wanting to get into it but you can't because you value everyone's feelings towards this boy which feelings you also value so you don't make a move but the girls that like the boy are tiptoeing and feigning ignorance of their feelings for the boy making you pissed mainly at that one girl who shouldn't be guilty for taking that boy but instead that girl lets the other girl take him from both of you while you watch realizing "I helped make this happened without even saying my piece". That's basically Ami God her character is just so good yet tragic.
My disliking of the anime revolves only on taiga's character: needy tsundere (god how much I hate it). But given how much attention Ryugi gives to her, almost subconsciously, you could say that in love he needs someone to take care; so in the end I'm kind of fine with the outcome. Amy-Ryu was never going to happen, Mino-Ryu I was rooting for but she was too selfless... God I hate needy tsunderes...
She isn't a Tsundere, or else she would've treated her crush in the beginning of the show terribly. She's just stand-offish because of her needing to defend herself.

I’m kinda late to the party but I just finished ToraDora and It made me remember how awkward high school was. Like at the time I thought I was doing everything right and looking back on it it’s mostly just a huge mess of awkwardness.
Just seemed like a mishmash video of random quotes, subjects, ideas about Toradora... There is no concrete focus to what the video is about. Like he goes on about topics from maslow's theory to quoting Lewis. The way he used his 'evidence' to prove his point was also really lacking because it then skips to the next random thought the creator had instead of expanding on his reasoning.
yes the video's ideas are kind of random but there all tide to each other, and also, in the end, he explained why people generally act fake and why these specific characters act fake also their misconceptions about love (sorry for my bad english)

I'm sorry you thought the video was disjointed. This piece is more of a self-reflection on Toradora now that I've rewatched it rather than an in-depth analysis. I thought Maslow's hierachy of needs was a quick and easy way to establish my initial point (high school is a time where you are "fake" as a response to new feelings), and transitioned into Lewis as reasoning to why Ryuuji and Taiga eventually overcome their fakeness (new understanding of their feelings) and achieve the next level. I'll strive to better my writing in the future.

I touched on it a little with the "palmtop tiger of happiness" thing, but it's pretty obvious everyone is fake in Toradora. Minori being the biggest offender, but Ami starts off hiding her true self, Kitamura asks Taiga out for no real reason, Ryuuji pushes his own father issues onto Taiga, etc. etc. Sorry I wasn't more clear! It's fine. It was entertaining nonetheless. I still don't get how these examples necessarily convey fakeness though, they rather seem to show inexperience, fear to open up and naivity. Humans adapt to different social situations, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the past was a deliberate fake when they change to a new approach (for instance open up). Faking means deliberately deceiving from what you are already, but it seems more like their actual identity is up for great change as young teens even if they are rigidly stereotyped as "scary dragon" and "lucky tiger" by others, thus conforming to peer dynamics. It is more a story of overcoming/escaping those stigmas (together?). For instance i started my first job this week and didn't joke around on the first day, but did so more on the last day of the week. The change in behavior doesn't mean i was a fake on the first day, it just means i behaved akin to my perceived environment. Maslow is funny either way, i learned about him early in my BA studies on the topic of Ubermensch. Don't think one can take it too seriously though.

while yes she is strong, i think the message that OP made in this video applies to Ryuuji's fondness for Minori, because Ryuuji is more attracted to what Minori represents, rather what Minori shows she is, and not who she actually is, Because Ryuuji is attracted to Minori because she is essentially what Ryuuji wants to be, but as the show goes on Ryuuji realizes that Minori's true personality causes her to put on a half-facade and "be fake" , a good example for this is the scene where they are trapped in the shed and Minori's hand is shaking, but she tries not to show this. What i love about Ryuuji’s and Taiga’s relationship is how their feelings sneak up on them, which i feel is very realistic when you fall in love with your best friend. They both only realize their feelings once they think they’re losing each other and it’s beautifully heartbreaking how they suddenly realize they can’t live without each other. I also think people fail to see what Ryuuji takes from their relationship, since Taiga is the one who’s more dependent. But Ryuuji needs someone to take care of, that’s how he feels useful. He enjoys making food for the people he loves (as you can see in the OVA), taking care of the house, etc. And Taiga needs him, and he likes taking care of her. But he also has these moments where he feels hopeless and useless and he doesn’t show that side to ANYONE except Taiga, because she knows exactly how he feels everytime. She brings him comfort and security, and she makes him feel needed and useful. That’s why i think they compliment each other so well

Ami is my favorite character. Even with her bratty side, the first second I saw her I felt a spark. She was so different and it felt like she was the perfect character I wanted in this anime.
Actually ever since I saw her I wanted her to be with Ryuuji, but we all know that's not gonna happen. Ami's chatacter development and just everything about her made the series more interesting.

She's right that Minori shouldn't just walk away and essentially just box Ryuuji in with Taiga, because what if he could be happier with someone else? But on the other hand Minori knows what Ryuuji means to Taiga. Her self-sacrifice is completely justified (at least in her view). She knows she can live without Ryuuji. But Taiga? She's not so sure. That, and the whole "They were basically made for each other" thing...

My personal favorite character of Toradora is Minorin, because at the end she seems to be aware of everything she feels, unlike the others, but still lies to herself for things to go the way she wants to, or the way she thinks she wants them to go. I think she's one of the most complex and compelling characters I've ever seen in anime (maybe in any medium), but in Toradora, any character could be anyone's favorite: They're all fully realized characters and they're the most strong aspect of Toradora!. Great Analysis, man :)

She's not that deep. She got fucked over, though, by her so-called "friends". She needed help, yet she was always just used to further Ryuuji and Taiga's relationship. Her storyline really ruined my immersion by the constant realization that everything in it is happening because the author is trying to write a specific couple, not tell the story of five friends.

Spoilers Alert: Although Minori views the twos relationship in a way where they shouldn't get in the way of them at the start and Ami is the opposite, in the end Minori is the one that gets in the way and Ami lets them be together without getting in the way even though she also has feelings for Ryuji.
I also think that Ami is my favourite character. When she is first introduced she acts like a pampered princess with a side of her that looks down on everyone else. But after the halfway mark, she becomes a much nicer character, even while still scrutinized for her past behavior she starts doubting her actions and questioning her emotions that she neglected and became more mature. I also feel that her love for Ryuji feels more real than the others, seeing as he helped her out with her emotions, and even after falling for Ryuji, she starts to understand her own feelings slowly but because she knows how she is viewed by everyone else she would rather be more realistic and bottle up her love and help with Ryujis love life from the shadows.

Most people I talk to about the series miss a lot of it, since that depth isn't being hand-fed to them, but the character depth is part of the reason why I love the show! One of my favorite parts about the post-Toradora journey I've been taking is how a lot of people seemingly have something really deep and philosophical to take away from this series. I think that speaks volumes of the sheer quality of this series. It's a show that gets you to think, and I love that.

Honestly I watched Toradora when i was much younger, and looking back on it it’s still one of my favorites. It showcases the difference between crushes and true love. What I liked with the 2 leads is how through the show they are just always together, always thinking of how to help the other and most of it is more subconscious.
It oddly never felt that awkword to me with these 2. But when they interacted with their "crushes" there was no chemistry. They liked aspects of the crush but greatly missed the comfort. Yet as soon as they opened up to each other they just became adorable together like it took little to no effort.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that understands this.
I absolutely agree with Ami about the father-daughter dynamic- that is what they have. They are not particularly friends who enjoy mutual interests and have enjoyable interactions. Ryuji takes care of her because she shows she can't take care of herself- just like his own mother. If he is already being the adult of the household for his own home, he might as well take in the stray cat next door and maybe if he's lucky she'll stop clawing and hissing- not that she ever does. Taiga on the other hand craves her ideal of 'normal', and while her crush on Yusaku seems to stem from how normal he seems, she obviously enjoys the quiet and peace that happens in Ryuji's house- abnormal as it is with a loud bird and an alcoholic dependent mom. Ryuji and Yusako are like perfect replacement parents in Taiga's traumatized mind- Ryuji takes care of her and is responsible, and Yusako loves having her around and says nice things to and about her. At no point during the entire series do they seem like they are forming a romantic bond, they just confide in their secrets to each other. They are just too young, emotionally damaged, and poorly psychologically educated to understand that what they are pursuing and experiencing are kinds of love different from romantic love.
If they had both been open with Minori about what their dynamic was and their goals in pursuit of romance, Ryuji and Minori could have had a healthy romantic relationship as equals, they both could have helped take care of Taiga until she could stand on her own as their equal, and half the drama of the series would have just been solved by like a 10 minute conversation where everyone comes out happy.
I know I am late to this party here with this reply, but I think you are spot on with this. Never once did this feel like a healthy "romantic" relationship and was most definitely like a passive father / spoiled daughter type bond. He took care of her, took all the crap she dished out like a parent would (physically and mentally) because they have no choice they are family right, though he was too timid and passive to actually discipline her so she could just do whatever she wanted and not learn about the world or how to treat people... and in the end the romantic stuff just felt very wrong to me. i think your analogy of the stray cat is an interesting and spot on comment as well, I had never thought of it like that.
At the beach house all of this should have been solved. Minori, yes or no. If yes then that is done, if no then no reason to try and continue being nice to the stray cat since she literally treated him like a dog and tried to kill him in his house and showed "zero" appreciation whatsoever up to that point (episode 9 I think)...no reason to take care of her since he no longer needed her help with Minori. Ryuuji had shown absolutely zero romantic interest in her also up until that point

On one note I'd like to add that I agree with you on love not needing to be a burning blaze, but the dependency the characters have on one another is, what I think at least, the problem(at least realistically and in the long term).
Taiga needs to be nurtured by a father figure and Ryuuji need to be a father signal personal issues which neither party are actually fixing by playing said roles as father and daughter. Its the equivalent of putting duck-tape on a broken pipe and leaving it at that. Eventually, something is going to give and its not going to be a good day. Which is why I don't think(once again I say realistically) it would work out for them, at least in the long run.
Though its likely I may just a bit cynical on this topic. Would love to hear some thoughts on this.
I think that ultimately, Ryuji and Taiga realize this. They're drastically different by the end of the show, and Taiga's experience with her father causes her to reevaluate her thoughts on the matter. You can see this by the fact that she goes to repair her broken relationship with her mother before reuniting with him. She's learned that these kind of relationships matter, and seeks to be a more whole, well-rounded person before committing to him.
I think that the fact that both ryuuji and taiga solve their problems before meeting again demonstrates that they will have a very, very lasting relationship.
Haven't watched this show since I was 12-13 years old. Now I'm 19 and I have changed quite a bit, enough that looking back on myself, There is no familiarity with the me from 7 years ago, how I thought, who my friends were, how I treated people. can't relate to them, or even understand them. I have a lot of regret, and sometimes I feel lost. Almost everything in me has changed, except one thing, anime.
Anime has stayed the same to me. While I don't remember anything that happened in Toradora I do remember one thing,
I fucking love the shit out of that show. All of the anime that I liked, I still do, and all of the anime that I hated, I still do.
Even if I forget, I'll eventually come across videos like this that will remind me that somethings will always stay the same.

I think the drama was very heavy, and the ending didn't properly lift the weight off the viewer.
Pretty sure this was due to the circumstances of the time, the last novel wasn't out bevor the last episodes were made.

I liked it. The referencing felt a little superficial and jumpy (with the latter being reflected in other comments), but overall it was a nice watch. It felt more like a reflective piece rather than an argument however, with the inclusion of your own reflection/s, coupled with 1st person pronouns lol

I was 6 when this anime came out. I really wish there was a second season to show their life after highschool. It would be good instead of leaving it off with her chewing him out for saying he loves her at the wrong time. Even tho that is one of the greatest ways to end it

I have a complicated feeling toward the resolution of this show, because my favorite character is Minori. To see her left in sorrow at the end hurt. In many ways it made it a bitter ending to a show I really liked a lot. In a way I wanted her to be with Ryuji to avoid heart break, but at the same time I didn’t necessarily love the idea of her and Riyuji together. I like to think that with her charm, winning personality, and awesome outlook on life she went on to find happiness.
People say Minori was hurt the most but imagine being able to see this whole thing unfold wanting to get into it but you can't because you value everyone's feelings towards this boy which feelings you also value so you don't make a move but the girls that like the boy are tiptoeing and feigning ignorance of their feelings for the boy making you pissed mainly at that one girl who shouldn't be guilty for taking that boy but instead that girl lets the other girl take him from both of you while you watch realizing "I helped make this happened without even saying my piece". That's basically Ami
God her character is just so good yet tragic.

My disliking of the anime revolves only on taiga's character: needy tsundere (god how much I hate it). But given how much attention Ryugi gives to her, almost subconsciously, you could say that in love he needs someone to take care; so in the end I'm kind of fine with the outcome.
Amy-Ryu was never going to happen, Mino-Ryu I was rooting for but she was too selfless... God I hate needy tsunderes...
She isn't a Tsundere, or else she would've treated her crush in the beginning of the show terribly. She's just stand-offish because of her needing to defend herself.

Pretty rare to see videos about Toradora, like its been ten years, but still my favourite and first anime.
Whether you agree or disagree with a characters point of view does not make them a bad character. Not implying you are saying this but i see people harbour this line of thinking all the time

I’m kinda late to the party but I just finished ToraDora and It made me remember how awkward high school was. Like at the time I thought I was doing everything right and looking back on it it’s mostly just a huge mess of awkwardness.

A Toradora analysis video nearly a decade after the anime. Was not expecting that but I have to tell you I loved it.
Just seemed like a mishmash video of random quotes, subjects, ideas about Toradora... There is no concrete focus to what the video is about. Like he goes on about topics from maslow's theory to quoting Lewis. The way he used his 'evidence' to prove his point was also really lacking because it then skips to the next random thought the creator had instead of expanding on his reasoning.
yes the video's ideas are kind of random but there all tide to each other, and also, in the end, he explained why people generally act fake and why these specific characters act fake also their misconceptions about love (sorry for my bad english)
yeah it wasn't really all that coherent. i thought its because im tired but i had a hard time following while knowing the concepts that were brought up. Especially i didn't see any examples to show the "fakeness" or "masks", just heard that the characters have certain needs and different views on matters.
I'm sorry you thought the video was disjointed. This piece is more of a self-reflection on Toradora now that I've rewatched it rather than an in-depth analysis. I thought Maslow's hierachy of needs was a quick and easy way to establish my initial point (high school is a time where you are "fake" as a response to new feelings), and transitioned into Lewis as reasoning to why Ryuuji and Taiga eventually overcome their fakeness (new understanding of their feelings) and achieve the next level. I'll strive to better my writing in the future.
Hey there! Sorry you thought it was incoherent. While writing fresh off of rewatching the show, I tend to assume people know what I mean and write based off of that, and it's a fault of mine. I touched on it a little with the "palmtop tiger of happiness" thing, but it's pretty obvious everyone is fake in Toradora. Minori being the biggest offender, but Ami starts off hiding her true self, Kitamura asks Taiga out for no real reason, Ryuuji pushes his own father issues onto Taiga, etc. etc. Sorry I wasn't more clear! I'll do better next time
It's fine. It was entertaining nonetheless. I still don't get how these examples necessarily convey fakeness though, they rather seem to show inexperience, fear to open up and naivity. Humans adapt to different social situations, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the past was a deliberate fake when they change to a new approach (for instance open up). Faking means deliberately deceiving from what you are already, but it seems more like their actual identity is up for great change as young teens even if they are rigidly stereotyped as "scary dragon" and "lucky tiger" by others, thus conforming to peer dynamics. It is more a story of overcoming/escaping those stigmas (together?). For instance i started my first job this week and didn't joke around on the first day, but did so more on the last day of the week. The change in behavior doesn't mean i was a fake on the first day, it just means i behaved akin to my perceived environment.
Maslow is funny either way, i learned about him early in my BA studies on the topic of Ubermensch. Don't think one can take it too seriously though.
I always have a mini heart attack when I see a new Toradora video around. I'm happy that this show still gets attention.
