Your sketches are so beautiful! I want to teach myself to paint as boldly as you. Your paintings look so confident. Even unfinished sketches look great 😍
All your sketchbook tours are total gems. It’s so interesting to see how much space you leave to let your pieces breathe. Although you don’t show much figure work your use of continuous line is very impressive ❤
I just love your work. I think sometimes sketchbook artists have imposter syndrome, thinking "well, I work small. They're not big paintings in galleries". But the artistry is just as valid. Your pics are so colorful. The river at Nantes was luminous and I thought the bridge by the station really sophisticated. Thankyou for sharing.
Great to see your finished book. I didn’t see the drawing of the Nantes railway station yet, but 😍. You really made a big trip and these drawings and the writing is the best souvenir. Loved it!
Hello Lis, wow, your sketchbook is looking so great! I love your style and the compostions on the pages. I'm so excited that I found your channel, and subscribed:) Looking forward to watch your other videos. Have a nice day. Wish you all the best from Germany:)
Your drawings are really beautiful. Glad to see my birth place in such beautiful colors. I think it was not the back of the cathedral that you sketched in Nantes, but the back of Eglise Saint Nicolas in the rue du Calvaire.
You have a very unique style which I find very refreshing and expressive. You have certainly mastered the use of negative space, and it impacts your art work perfectly. All the time I was watching this video with your art work showing, I couldn't help but be reminded of something from my childhood, but I can't for the life of me think what it can be. I just get this strong feeling that I have seen either the style, or the specific colour combinations, or just ..... something before ! It's gonna drive me crazy until I work it out, but anyway, it's still beautiful work.
I admire your minimal use of color in each subject. Really enhances and allows it to hold it's own. One question, do you pencil sketch first or just start laying your colors down?
Hello, I sometimes go straight with direct watercolour and sometimes I start with a few pencil lines, getting down the basic composition. If I do use pencil, I try not to spend more than five minutes on that part. 🙂
Hi Lis, thanks so much for sharing your art! I enjoy it so much 🙂 How do you decide what to paint and what to draw in ink or watercolor in your sketches? Love the combo ❤
That’s a good question! I tend to start by painting the big areas or shapes to ‘anchor’ the image. I use a fineliner to draw the bits that I can’t paint well as I am not very adept with a brush. I also go over areas of watercolour with black or white fine liners to add decoration. Hope that helps 🙂
I love your great use of negative space!
Thank you! I like to call it positive space 😊
What a lovely sketchbook, far nicer than a photo album in a way, as it more personal and the memories of your trip are as you experienced them.
Lovely of you to say, thank you 😊

Thank you so much! I’m meant to be concentrating on drawing people this summer as that’s an area where I need a lot of improvement.

It's very nice to go travel and roam as an artist would roam, stop and really look, none of this tour bus stuff. Look left click, click!

I'm Belgian myself, and stayed at the youth hostel in Gent with my girlfriends last December. I recognized the view immediately!
That’s great that you recognise it! It was a lovely building in such a great location.

Do you draw/paint directly in watercolor or use pencil drawing first?
With these two, I put down a little pencil to get the composition and then used watercolour directly 🙂
