- What is it like to take a sketchbook with you on your travels? In this video, come with me as I travel and draw in Ghent, Paris and finally in Nantes at the Annual French Urban Sketchers meet up. I share some of the sketch process and clips of things that I found interesting along the way. I hope you enjoy it!
I just can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video. Every sketch was just lovely. Your artistic eye carries over into your photography as well. Much of it just feels like stepping back into a quieter more beautiful time. Looking forward to your next one .
That’s lovely of you to say, thank you!
I love the painting of the bell at 3:58 it's just enchanting.
Thank you 😊
OMG - I was born in Ghent, and lived there for about 35 years! How did I not know there was an USK walk there...? 😞 Amazing sketches you made there! Well done!
Thank you 😊 It wasn't an official event, just some of us from the UK drawing together. Ghent is such a lovely place to sketch!

thanks Lis for the nice video 🧡 I love it so much when you show your process, it's so interesting to see how you start a sketch and how it develops. Thank you so much!

Dear Lis, what a charming video you’ve made from your trip! So inspiring. Loved drawing with you so much! Nice to be mentionned 😉. Hope to meet you again one day in London. Kindest regards from France, Margot.
It was lovely to draw with you in Nantes, Margot. I really enjoyed the USk event. Hope to see you one day in London 😊
Loved this Lis…thankyou so much …must have taken ages to edit..and I didn’t even notice you filming. And you are NOT grumpy!
Thank you, Anne!
Thoroughly enjoyed this, very relaxing and your art is gorgeous!
Lovely of you to say, thank you 🙂
Just loving this vlog. What a fabulous urban sketcher you are. What ink pen are you using. I love your thin line work. I also like how you edit the scenes… something I need to learn . Thank you so much. I was at Galleries Lafayette just before Christmas a few years ago and they had a beautiful upside down Christmas tree.
Thank you 😊 The pen is a 'Tikky' pen from Rotring ✒️
Love your minimalistic style! I hope to one day be able to "omit" as well as you do
I try to just put down the essential information, leaving the viewers eyes to make up the rest.
The way you mastered simplicity in your paintings is just awesome! Thank you for sharing 💕
Thank you so much 😀
Nice one! Love your "without outline", sketches. Where are the French USK going in 2025?
Thank you 👍 I don't think the venue for next year's meet up has been published yet.
I see parallels and similarities with many of the buidings in Leeds and Ghent- both merchant cities i guess.
Apparently the reason so many of the old buildings survived in Ghent was because it went into decline and wasn't a popular area for a while.
Lovely video and great sketching. Shame about the music.
Glad you enjoyed the sketches if not the music. Could you give me feedback regarding the music? Is it any music or the particular tracks? Would you prefer silence between the speaking segments? I'm interested to find out opinions for future videos. Thank you!
@@LisWatkins Music too loud and obtrusive. Would like more commentary. Your pictures are excellent and interesting, and deserve to command attention rather than compete with inappropriate music.
