  • Arcadia of My Youth (わが青春のアルカディア Waga Seishun no Arukadia) is an anime film depicting the origin of Leiji Matsumoto's seminal character Captain Harlock. At one time, it was considered to be the central hub of the so-called Leijiverse with the events depicted in other works such as Galaxy Express 999 and 1978's Space Pirate Captain Harlock television series occurring sometime after

My all time favorite animated film right there. The anguish of the opening scene..the music..it's all so dramatic. The scoring of Albinoni's "Adagio" with spaceships is absolutely beautiful. The post-apocalyptic feel of the free voice of Arcadia. This movie sort of made me depressed, as a 5 year old Swedish boy, but it was so worth it. Hail to the king of space, Captain Harlock!

grew up with the 78 series, harlock is my favourite anime character of all time, but funny enough i only watched this movie for the first time 3 years ago, it blew me away, of all my harlock discs this is the one i’ll never get rid off😄

Svensk jag med. Den är underbar denna. Fullkomligt otrolig faktiskt. Men en film för djupingar. Som med all annan Matsumoto egentligen. Den har stannat med mig sen 80talet. Ser den iaf en gång om året.

You should do more of this, where you go back to older movies both that you are discovering now and that you feel nostalgic about.

I suggested before (and do so again) you do a review of the Transformers movie from 1986.

Be gentle. There is copious amounts of cheese, but some great lines of dialogue that are still kick ass today.

The sounds, the music, the voice acting in the dubbed version are what make this a timeless classic. Those late 70s, early 80s sounds are now a haunting reminder of times before everything fell apart with 4 decades of continuous Reaganomics and hollowing-out of our landscapes and cities.

Wasn't there a CGI Harlock movie. I saw it I think last year and it was pretty epic.

from Japan. I'm happy. I was surprised that some people loved Japanese animation. Moreover, I am honored to be my beloved Professor Leiji Matsumoto. We look forward to your continued support of Japanese animation. (⌒-⌒)

I love Galaxy Express 999 and was introduced because of your top 10 anime video, I will defienetly check out Arcadia of My Youth. Although I'm not sure if you know but there is a direct sequel movie to Galaxy Express 999 called Adieu Galaxy Express 999. Its so epic, seeing Tetsuro go for another journey on the train

I know I'm very late here, but I wanted to say that this video, in part, inspired me to create the world's largest English-speaking fan community for Leiji Matsumoto. After I watched it, I reached out to Johnny and asked him to talk about more Leijiverse content, and he told me to do it myself! Instead of getting pissy about it, I just did it! A great look back at a classic anime.

How did I miss this?!?! Great work, Johnny! This is one of my all-time faves. So indicative of 1970's era anime, from the music to the visuals. Very nostalgic film for me. :)

We get it, it came out in the 80s, please stop telling us every 20 seconds, you already have it plastered on the bottom of the screen.
