- Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw movie review (also known simply as Hobbs & Shaw) is a 2019 American action film directed by David Leitch and written by Chris Morgan and Drew Pearce, from a story by Morgan. It is a spin-off of The Fast and the Furious franchise centered around the titular Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, characters introduced in the main series. Starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, the film follows the unlikely allies who are forced to team up against a greater threat. Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Cliff Curtis and Helen Mirren also star.
Series star and producer Vin Diesel first said in 2015 that possible spin-offs were in early development, and Hobbs & Shaw was officially announced in October 2017. Leitch signed on to direct in April 2018, and Kirby and Elba both joined the cast that July. Filming began in September and lasted through January 2019, mostly taking place in London and Glasgow.
Hobbs & Shaw premiered at the Dolby Theatre on July 13, 2019 and is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on August 2, 2019, in 2D, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX. It received mostly positive reviews from critics, who praised the chemistry of Johnson, Statham and Kirby, as well as the film's visual style and action choreography, although the convoluted plot received some criticism.

Bit of an unpopular opinion here, but I don't like how The Rock has essentially hijacked this franchise. I've been a fan of Fast and Furious since the first film, and I'll be honest, I think they have gotten progressively dumber since The Rock joined the cast. Yes I'm aware part 2 was pretty dumb, and 3... happened. Part 4 and 5 really brought things back on track though, prioritizing the characters and plot, but now it's just another generic action franchise. I'm a fan of The Rock don't get me wrong, but this was Paul Walker and Vin Diesel's series, and yet The Rock gets introduced as an antagonist in part 5, has been a protagonist since, and now has his own side film? Who asked for this?
I'm with you there. The first time I saw The Rock on FAST FIVE I was like "Are you serious? Great. FNF IS RUINED". But I blame whoever had the idea to include him in the franchise in the 1st place. If It ain't Broke, Don't Fix It. On top of all that, The Rock is in 80% of new films which I completely refuse to watch any movie with him in it as I'm sick of seeing him in almost every new movie that I want to see that gets released as the movie gets completely ruined for me personally.

I love all the fast and furious movies but this is the only one myself and my dad didn't like. It had little to nothing do with Fast and Furious, Im telling if you watch any of Fast and Furious movies 1 - 8 you will have a much better time, they are dumb but there is a sense a realism in the situations and characters. Also there is some sort of character and development which is entertaining to watch, how Vin Diesel starts off as a street racer and by Fast 8 he is getting roped in the crazy stuff with the military, its entertaining to see this street thugs go from racing cars to this crazy stuff over the course of 8 movies. Where this was just a big ego trip for the rock making a generic action movie using the Fast and Furious name to sell more

Dwayne Johnson doesn't get along with Vin Diesel because the complaint was that he doesn't have very good work ethic and he's kinda' a diva. Shows up when he wants, isn't very professional, etc. Granted, that's just what I've heard.

So it's basically what one would expect from a Fast & Furious movie, switch off the brain and enjoy the visuals. Like I honestly wasn't expecting much out of it, I'd watch it just to see the chemistry between Johnson and Statham as I liked their little squabbling's found in the last two? movies.

Why are people so against fun over the top action? I love theses kinds of movies. Mindless action is grea. Everything doesnt have to be so serious.
