I find myself searching Harlock on YT to see if anything new pops up and just randomly scroll about. I came across your video on my lunch so I couldn't finish it all but what I saw, got you a like. I just finish your video now and my like was well placed. I started my journey in the world of Harlock with the 3D movie. I thought it was perfect in the story but a friend of mine, much older than me (like a older brother) scoffed at my praise. I thought it was odd as he grew up with Harlock, why wouldn't he like a nice pretty movie...? I finally sat down and watched Arcadia of my Youth. At first I wasn't sure but I soon found myself enthralled in the story, the animation was everything I wanted (I'm a sucker for older animation). I started to see why my friend was against the 3D movie. Every moment of Arcadia of my Youth was a moment I wanted to savor. After that I went ahead and started the '78 series. I was hooked by the first episode. I remember watching one episode after another and when I was at work I would wonder just what would happen next. A week of my life was gone thanks to Harlock and I am forever thankful for it. Thanks to taking a chance on Arcadia of my Youth years ago I've been a Harlock fan. I've watched every version of Harlock made but I still find myself coming back to Arcadia of my Youth and the '78 series. The animation and story from Arcadia pulls at me and I found myself loving the characters in the '78 series (Daiba in particularly. I found him annoying at first but came to adore him the more I watched. The other Tadashis in the other versions just didn't come close imo) I'm curious if you read the Captain Harlock: Dimensional Voyage. Even watching as many versions of Harlock as I did, I was still a little lost but I enjoyed it (I'm guilty for not watching Galaxy Express 999 thou I did watch Maetel Legend which has my favorite woman Emeraldas. A huge rare thing for me as most animes I focus on the men as females are just fanservice fodder. Not her. Even though most of Leiji's women are always silly or beautiful. The way he manages to keep them strong amazes me. I have seen Queen Emeraldas as of yet so I could be wrong but from what I've seen he does a great job with handling female characters.) Or the new comic coming out later this month. I fangirl so loud on the phone with a friend and she knew it was because of Harlock (I only make a certain noise for that man/series she swears..! XD) This wasn't suppose to be this lengthy but I always find myself excited at seeing other Harlock fans and your praise to the '78 series just made my day. Thank you for giving this series so much love. You get a sub out of me good sir! 8D
Thanks! I would love to be able to see Arcadia of my Youth someday. I've heard nothing but good things about it and now I have your praise to add to the pile! I haven't read Dimensional Voyage yet but you've certainly piqued my interest now. How similar is it to the anime out of curiosity? If I've watched the series, is it still worth collecting? Thanks for commenting and sharing your Harlock story (which I found quite fascinating as you basically went in a reverse production order!)
@@Immortallium Arcadia of my Youth is real eye opener for those that don't know Harlock. I've suggested it to a few of my friends that wanted to understand the character without sitting through a series (which I feel is a shame as the '78 series is just that amazing to me but I understand its not for everyone.) I believe its on Prime (free with ads though its dubbed) or even Crunchyroll (I know SSX was at one point. That's where I watched it) As for Dimensional Voyage...it takes a lot of characters from the Leijiverse. I found adding Zero from Cosmo Warrior Zero was a nice touch. Its decent. I found some parts odd but at the end? It was fitting in its own way (no spoilers but Daiba definitely stole the show for me. Harlock was that extra support boost he needed at times though...but its Harlock so he's OP regardless what he does.) But at the end...its more of a reboot of the '78 series with a few different twists in it. You have a threat. You have Harlock taking Daiba aboard but hey, Zero and...Tetsuro..? Sure why not. It also solves a little nitpick of mine when it comes to the '78 series to the newer ones. I adore, and I mean I LOVE the '78 design of the Arcadia for just being this ship in space but I also love the standard green, giant skull on front ship as well. The manga solves that mystery in a way (still no spoilers. I'm trying my best to be good here. 💦 ) So yes, I think its a good manga to read. Something new of Harlock, and the art is very well done. I'm sure the artist was feeling a pressure to do his best but I think he did wonderfully. I know. 🤣 I cursed my past self for all the praises I gave the 3D movie once I learn who Harlock really is. I'm trying tomake that up by watching/reading all things Harlock over the years. Have you played Super Robot Wars T? I lost my mind when I found out Harlock was in it. Forget every other series in it. Arcadia be mine ( *ahem* please share Harlock. I'm maxing the damn thing out. .__. ) It was also Makio Inoue last role I believe. The fact they got him back once more as Captain Harlock made me want it even more. I've listen to many different versions of Harlock but Makio Inoue is and will always be Harlock to me (there are some good runner ups though.) You are very welcome! I found your video to be exactly what I needed to show my other friends on why Harlock is a need in their lives. They don't understand the greatness of the series or character. Plus you kept it short 'n sweet. Something they will easily understand and accept (I'm not trying to convert my friends into the world of Harloc- actually yes I am. The series needs more love and more fans.😂💦 )
@@Immortallium You are very welcome! SRW games are lengthy be forewarned. 😂 I've had the game for 6 months now and just got to chapter 21 (there is 54 chapters). I enjoy it but I have to pace myself as the game makes me sleepy UNLESS something attacks the Arcadia. I'm awake and something is going to die. 😂 They use Harlock from SSX so Tochiro is with him. It's nice. I really didn't mind it as SSX was a good series even if the Tadashi in it wasn't my favorite. It has other series in it like Cowboy Bebop as well. I'm not a fan of the series but it was awesome to see Spike try to capture Harlock (you really shouldn't do that Spike... 😂) All in all, I recommend it if you like strategy games and lots of text. Also Gundam. Kamille is in it so that is something. I'm curious over the Crossbone Gundam and pilot because of it (he keeps lingering in Harlock's cabin. Oi. Explain yourself mister..!) So the game might get you to check out something new. Just get the Asian version as it has English text. The Japanese version doesn't. I got it for the Switch since I need more games for it but it's for the PS4 as well. I really need to shorten my fangirling 😂 sorry for the long reply. 💦
Im so glad that you loved it that much. Now if you love it as an adult, imagine me who grew up with this, watching all episodes so many times from 5 years old to today! I just finished the manga for this. It seems as though the anime might have expanded upon it heavily as there's so many unanswered questions in the manga and a generally really unsatisfying ending. I don't know who Maya is, as she wasn't in the manga at all, and none of the characters were developed at all. The anime sounds promising and I'm regretful that I didn't watch it first before reading the manga
This was the first Japanesee anime seires I saw that was unedited back in 1978 or 79 when it aired on channel 47 when it use to switch over from spanish programs to Japanesee on Saturday and Sunday evenings back then. I missed the end because the family went on vacation and when I came back they started showing Cyborg 009 . But later I did see the full series. Even NOW I catch it on Pluto TV. I also like the sound track for the series and was able to get the CD soundtrack. I just wish that this series would be restored and released on Bul-ray Disc.
