God when i heard Simon Viklund I immediately just froze and just thought of all the payday songs I've raved to. Its surreal hearing the guy who made the legendary music of the payday games make this soothing music.
Yeah that's what popped in my head as soon as i saw the title, specifically, Break The Rules. I imagind he shedded unholy amounts of sweat onto it to create such a fine piece of music that could be, infact, considered a masterpiece of song composition.
@@WildNoobThe2nd He uploaded a video of "behind the scenes of Break the Rules" on his YT. He sure poured in a lot of work. The video is like 20 to 30 mins long.
His voice always puts me in the space to learn, and the information is always wonderfully packed and succeeds to always make a great experience. Honestly I don't know what I would do without this channel.
I have finals today, and this really helped me relax. Everytime you upload, you make my day much better. Thank you for your amazing quality, it is noticed and appreciated
amazing comments from Simon Viklund! a lot of careful thought went into marrying the compositions and implementation, but when i played Pan-Pan it felt seamless, effortless and natural. reminds me of a saying i remember from some jazz musician, something like "anyone can take something simple and make it seem complex, but it takes a master to take something complex and make it appear simple". i love Pan-Pan and glad to see such a caring look at its soundtrack, it's not the most accessible of games but it's really good at being what it is.
Awesome vid! I'm an aspiring Game Dev, and have been learning a lot about sound design and music from you, so thank you a ton for these amazing resources
I bought Pan-Pan as one of my first games on my Nintendo Switch, I sometimes come back for more of this neat little adventure that is quite short but always a good, relaxing ride. I love this game and you just made me realize about how more complex it is than it seems looking at the sound design !
thank you for not spoiling. this game has been on my wish list for a while now, and this video made me want to play it even more. it looks incredibly charming and i think i would enjoy it a lot :)
I've just discovered your channel and I've been loving it so far. A unique style and great content, you really stand out. I hope to see more from you in the future.
I played this game earlier this year and I can't tell you how calming it is. It really takes you on a short journey, a journey that you're not aware that you'll miss later.
Simon Viklund doing the music for this is sick! Back when he made the music for Payday he knew how to get your heart racing with the audio first and the visual of police second. When you turn off the music it's a completely different game and that seems to be the case for Pan-Pan as well.
Adaptive systems in music for games is my favorite adding a little bear to transfer the music to a bit different but it was slide into the next part it’s just beautiful and the screen change never feels broken like as if you just “walked into a room unchanged”
Dude, I am eager for each and everyone one of your videos!! Especially the ones part of the "What I love" series! Listening to you talk about your favorite things and "what you love" is so much fun! You're awesome!!!
Seeing more interest in those smaller indies is always great. Picked this one up when my switch was fairly new, and I fell in love with it. Glad you did an analysis of the game's sound design, it's really neat to see how you connect everything! ^^
Wasn't engaging as i'd like, and VERY short. But it was front page and dead cheap at one point on Switch, and it looked great. I had a good time- and it's even better to see Scruffy bring out the best of it like this!
thank you for these videos. they're helping inspire and motivate me as i struggle to work on sound-related things, and they're very sweet and entertaining and educational. :)
Honestly, I never even heard of this game, but it certainly looks fun! And the way Scruffy explains stuff about it make it really awesome to watch! Here's a suggestion for a possible future video, Scruffy: if you can and, of course, if you're interested, it would be fun if you made a video about Paper Mario: The Origami King! You love talking about musics in games, and that game not only has such a banger of a soundtrack, but it also has the adaptive audio we love to hear you explain so much. Someone already made a video about some examples of the music, but I feel like you could go into details on some pieces of the soundtrack not fully explored yet. Of course, I will be happy with any video that comes out, because your videos are that awesome, but TOK could be a fun idea for a video too! Think about it, OK?
Simon, doing a soundtrack WITHOUT sirens and beat drops? Dear god. (No harshing on the man whatsoever, I just associate his name with the Payday soundtrack. Which is all bangers that I can think of.)
I just bought this game because of this videi. I trust your judgement in good games (even though i cant play puzzle games lol) and I can not wait to revisit this video when I finish the game!!!!
Dear Scruffy, In Other Waters is very good, the sound design and world building are it's strongest points. I think you would enjoy it. Please at least play it. With much love,
There's a game that I'd like to see get more attention, a game called Fe. It's similar in its storytelling being told through cutscenes and environment. Its a 3d platformer with unique visuals, and it's main mechanic is learning different launuages to communicate with the plants and animals in the environment.
Got this game on the switch a while back. It's pretty charming, if a tad short. I always like puzzle games that are more light on dialogue and story but aren't just flat levels of nothing interesting.
Scruffy’s recommendations have much more power than the Game Awards.
Beyond a doubt, yes.
agreed
I swear, that “hello” at the start is always so welcoming
I agree. The intro music has a similar effect.
It’s soothing and soft. I love it
"hello! i'm scruffy, and today..."
me: :)
It's adorable.
Very genuine and unstaged feeling!

Give this man an award for making an *in depth* analysis on a game we never heard of, but never knew we needed.
*claps*
I actually own the game but haven't really taken the time to play it (yet).
@@GumPlecks if you still haven't, I'd recommend it. It's fairly short, so it wouldn't use up much time.
"I caught interest on a new game!"
"New game, or Pikmin again?"
"Pikmin again..."
After playing Payday 2 I'm certain that anything Simon Viklund is phenomenally crafted
I love that scruffy doesn't just look at music from big games like Mario but also small indie games that hardly anyone has heard of like this one
If I wanted anyone to make the music for my game or show, Simon would be a first pick hands down.
I wish Scruffy was my music teacher
Lol
His voice always puts me in the space to learn, and the information is always wonderfully packed and succeeds to always make a great experience. Honestly I don't know what I would do without this channel.
This actually sounds like a pretty good game -- I'm thinking more about that than the music right now.
It's really short but is an absolutely fantastic puzzle game. Easily worth the $5 admission price
@chubasco So worth
This looks oddly like monument valley
I love monument valley!
@@MP-iy4oi Me too!
i was thinking that too!! i wonder if pan-pan is partially inspired by it
@@magohlore1123 by its art style, probably

This game is really good and deserves more recognition. It’s a perfect puzzle game that starts slow and ramps up as the pieces fit into place.
I played Pan-Pan back when I first got my Switch, and man it was an adorable game. Thank you Scruffy for this little review, I enjoyed it a lot
