The soundtrack to this video is now available on BandCamp! It was too much fun to make for me not to share it with everyone. scruffymusic.bandcamp.com/album/soundtrack-behind-the-scenes-of-scruffy-videos
He composed a soundtrack. FOR A QNA VIDEO! ARE YOU *KIDDING ME??* The DEDICATION, it’s AMAZING. And on top of that, this video lets us as see and appreciate just how much love and effort and care goes into each video. He even created the little “What I Love” jingle that he creates VARIATIONS OF for EVERY VIDEO! Scruffy’s gotta be one of the most hard-working and dedicated people, just ever.
Not to mention the delicate pacing of every video allows the resolution brought by the "What I Love" jingle to resonate with everything you just watched, truly bringing the video to an end. The video satisfying every step of the way and wrapped up with the little bow on top that is the jingle.
I always thought the "hello" at the beginning of every video seemed so exceedingly inviting and friendly, and you pointing it out made me realize that it was a minor third, which is the most common/important interval in nursery rhymes and the like. The first word you say is already so carefully crafted, that's dedication man!
Just watch the beginning of _Language Nursery._ Even though the video’s intended for infants, Julie Aigner-Clark’s introduction is inviting to everyone!
I'd also like to point out that your visual/audio balance is perfect for my ADHD. A little bit of movement over verbal information, and fun visuals over little verbal information. Neither distracts from the other. It's perfect.
As someone who is about to graduate from undergrad with a B.A. in music education, your videos are a joy to watch. I hadn’t found many creators that have been able to create videos that blend educating viewers on musical topics intertwined with a love for video games done at such a high level of production until I came across your channel (the videos about Splatoon and Animal Crossing are my favorites, so far). They are always so well made, and hearing more about all of the work that goes into each video has made me appreciate the final product even more. Keep up the great work!! 😁
14:12 I can’t tell if it’s intentional or not but the music in the back sounds super similar to your song “robots”, just wanted to say intentional or not, I love this little nod to what I can say is the most influential song that I’ve heard and it’s amazing
Who on God's green earth disliked this video? Scruffy is (in my eyes) the most underrated content creator here on UA-cam and pretty much anywhere else. And this video only goes to show his hard work and dedication to sharing what he's passionate about. And Scruffy? If you see this, I want to say that I finally realized why your videos are so enjoyable to watch (aside from the smooth-talking and the complex, yet understandable information). It's because you DO structure your videos so similarly to kid's shows. Thank you for sharing with me what you love
The part about children's shows really brings to light how your videos always feel comfy and nostalgic, despite possibly having never seen them before.
I'm quite a bit late, but oh my goodness! I've never heard anyone talk about DeBlob 2's change in sound when painting in a different color. It certainly isn't a masterpiece of a game or anything, but that little secret is just *chef's kiss* Also, I knew you covered music, but to write new songs for your videos?? That's so cool, dude. The amount of dedication you put into your content is admirable to say the least.
The amount of effort you put in your videos us recognized and appreciated. Thank you for not only entertaining me but also teaching me and inspiring me to continue doing music
For the last minute or so of the video, I couldn’t pay attention to what you were saying because I was having so much fun enjoying the music! That was such a cool orchestration you made for your tag theme and I was just jamming out :)
For some reason, I just KNEW you were gonna say De Blob 2. Good taste, my man! I would always be orange in that game whenever possible since I play the trombone and wanted to hear all the funky licks the game had to offer. Edit: Ooh also if you cover Kirby music, I would love to hear your take on how the most modern game Kirby: Star Allies reworks the classic Green Greens motif. I know pretty much every modern Kirby final boss theme quotes Green Greens at some point, but Void Termina's does so in some really cool ways, and becomes a whole lot more interesting when you dive into the lore connections between Kirby and Void Termina. Sorry for ranting there, I'm somewhat of a Kirby Lore Historian. Best of luck, can't wait to hear what you do next!
De Blob is my favorite Wii game mainly for the adaptive audio! I haven’t played the second game, but I’m glad to hear that it keeps the solo instrumentation. I could talk about so many things regarding De Blob’s music, but I think that’s best saved for my raffle entry!
personally i adore each and every one of your videos and compositions, vgm or otherwise! on a more common interest level, video game music is wonderful and it's amazing to see someone with the experience you've gained over the years analyze and teach all of us about its intricacies. thank you for crafting all these videos with *love* and care, and i can't wait for the next one!
I've wanted to get into creating my own "educational" channel for a long time, and obviously I would create the soundtrack and animations and everything for it myself. This is inspiring me more and more to just do it, even if I don't have a whole lot of time between my job and other obligations. Personally, I would want it to be a full time gig where I just get to rant about all of the nerdy things that I think are cool like music, science, math, linguistics, cryptography, computer programming, and more. Perhaps one day I'll get to fulfill that dream of mine, and I think it will start with me just doing it. Thank you for the push!
I was just listening to Bill Evans when you posted this :D thank you scruffy, you, along with others, have encouraged me to minor in musical studies when I go to college in a year or so! You are a big inspiration to me
I can’t help but smile while watching this video. The amount of effort and love he’s put in this and every video he’s made is incredible!! I’ve learnt so much from his videos and thanks to him I’ve also been motivated to research on my own as well. Thank you for inspiring me and I hope you can continue doing what you love!
It's so nice to see such a clear and concise description on how your videos are made, they're some of my favorite vids to watch on youtube. On another note, de blob was such an awesome game! Only now do I realize there was adaptive audio there, it made it so much better
Your point about making music being about discovery, really strikes with me. Because in TV shows, movies, and games The background music is what I'd like to listen to the most. Take adventure time for example, the BGM in there is all over the place and crazy. Your videos along with my interests in BGM make me want to make my own music. But I do not know anything about music composition or a lot of music history. I wonder what I can make and how different it will sound from everything else since I have no background in it. (which is a half truth because I did band but I did not pay attention)
Since you said you do accept requests, you should try do dive into "A Short Hike" music. And besides that it's really short and sweet so you'll have fun playing it too.
Hearing that you're inspired by Mr. Rogers of all things REALLY makes just _too much sense._ Thank you for the wonderful, friendly videos. They're always a blast to watch.
12:04 this section unlocked some long-forgotten memories, wow i recognized the Blue's Clues theme (the bass in particular) despite not having watched it in ages lol this video was an absolute delight, thank you
honestly, how do you do everything? it's always inspiring seeing someone who has woven so many interests into their process. Just goes to show you that the best designers pursue many different passions and are always willing to learn new things.
God this is so interesting, I knew these videos must, of course, be a lot of work but to see you lay it out like that is crazy -- your talent and dedication is so inspiring!
What I LOVE about your videos is, exactly, I can feel that you are creating what you love. I see and hear the passion and I respect you very much as a creator! Sorry, can't express it any better but whatever you do, I will keep watching it
There's such an easy, relaxed mood to every Scruffy video, I had no clue the process was so precise and involved. It takes a true master to make it all look so effortless. Thanks for all you've given us so far!
watching this for the first time just now, and maybe it's a small thing but: this has been such a cool and informative video and to see that blue's clues is an inspiration already made me so happy, but then hearing a little arrangement of blue's clues music underneath it as well was truly the icing on an already magnificent cake
Even though I am an artist and found your Visuals segment very entertaining, I was blown away and captivated by the Music segment. I forget you make your own music for these videos (the Blues Clues theme was very well performed). It's incredible. Stay humble, Scruffy.
I realise this video is 2 years old and this comment will very unlikely be read but I wanted to say your channel is a blessing, each and every one of your videos is so carefully crafted, the result is just amazing and you make it all look so simple yet so interesting. Your content is educational but not discourageing. You honour the video games and developers and allow us to enjoy even more the details that make the video games we play. Your voice and tone are soothing and I could watch your videos all day. I discovered What I love a couple months ago and am so glad you are still writing and posting videos. Thank you !!
It's wonderful to see all the effort you put in your videos. With just the simple yet beautiful visuals which help to transport the incredible sound design, which is just perfect. Thanks to your videos I appreciate the sounds in games so much more than ever before.
It may be because I had a bad day, but I cried a lot during this video, because you are genuinely such a wonderful person! You have such a wonderful, relaxing voice, your visuals always amaze me and your music is just chefs kiss 💕 I'm literally in tears and so looking forward to everything you will do in the future! You are so wholesome 😭
This video made me realize that you're currently my favorite content creator in term of videos, in particular educationnal videos thanks for making me so enthousiast about sounds and music !
Hey, if you ever wanted to make a video about De Blob- either game- I'd love to see that! It's been years since I played them, but I know they have a lot to offer when it comes to adaptive audio and just having an interesting, unique style. There's surely a lot to learn there!
You're the Master, of all media elements. First when I saw your video, I knew this guy was a genius, but with more and more video I saw in your channel, I realize that you are a master, in music, visual, and art. Its a honor to have your music from bootcamp, cheers!
Once again you show off your amazing ability at both verbal and visual communication. You do wonders with your animated infographics to really hammer in the points you're trying to me. It reminds me of Understanding Comics and the rest of that series by Scott McCloud, like he does, you leverage the particular strengths of the medium you're communicating in to emphasize your points. It makes understanding your points all the clearer, it's like having hand gestures but they perfectly convey and emphasize the right parts of what is being said. It's important that you do this because otherwise the only context we would have is your voice, which can leave some information lost without seeing any visual cues. All that to say that I love your visual communication, it's got style and I want to emphasize that the work and effort you do to put it in your videos is absolutely worth it! These details definitely matter, in case you were ever wondering if anyone notices. (Example when you mention that your introduction on some games is on the "lighter side" and for the rest of that "paragraph" segment, the screen is gray instead of black, fantastic visual communication!)
What I love about your videos is how entertaining and educational they can be, no wonder your inspirations are what they are; It's astounding the work you put into these, can't wait for the next one.

I think he should do an analysis of music from video games based on Cartoons.

Agreed he has just so much hard work in each video and you can tell he loves making these videos and is very interested in what he is talking about.
And the best thing is he loves what he does and it definitly shows in his videos. He's one of my favourite UA-camrs ever and I'm so glad I found him.
Not to mention the delicate pacing of every video allows the resolution brought by the "What I Love" jingle to resonate with everything you just watched, truly bringing the video to an end. The video satisfying every step of the way and wrapped up with the little bow on top that is the jingle.
