just because steve nexus gamers posted a video about that doesn't suddenly make it a _deal breaker not-under-any-circumstances-whatsoever prohibited_ layout. sure it's not recommended but things are not gonna blow up because of it.
I feel like a different aio should have been chosen given the mounting orientation. There's a few with pumps in the rad or at the tubes to prevent any air getting to the pump. Pull also may have looked better but given that it's a 5800x in that case, debatabley better performance with push fans is probably better (just built with the same cpu and a 3070 in the same case and temps were... high).
@@virtuosocs4760 to be fair, they are usually filled to the brim so it would take a good amount of time for it to burn out (and pumps are better at pulling fluid up as opposed to pushing), but it just feels like corsair was used because... corsair. Also, that 5800x is gonna get really hot with a 240. My corsair 280 in the same case doesn't do a great job of cooling the 5800x even while just gaming and I have full depth intake and exhaust fans on top and bottom. At the end of the day it's a free pc that he's giving away on a charity stream so that's what matters. It's going to make someone happy so props to Kyle for that.
Considering the aio couldve been mounted on the side, there was no point in swapping the board, as side mounting the rad would elinated gpu temp issues, pump failure(which is now guaranteed) and also would eliminated the fact of needing to swap the board because of clearance as there wouldve then been a few mm of clearance left over between the rad and the dimm.2 He was going for looks though, so I get what he was doing, but imo giving a system away that is looks over function and has a guaranteed failure point, pretty much defeats the purpose of a pc.
@@deadly_mir I don't know that the dtx board would have actually allowed the gpu to be mounted horizontally (required for side mounted aio) unless those wimpy gpu fans were the only source of intake from the bottom so swapping the board was absolutely the right choice. I also don't think the dimm.2 clearance would have allowed a rad and full depth fans on the side. Having built in this case, it's a tight fit in general with a side mounted aio. And to be clear, failure would be guaranteed over time, not right away with this AIO, but it really does just feel like he needed a reason to use specifically the corsair.
@@thomoose1388 The temps still wouldve been better than with TG a few mm away from the gpu. In this situation my points are, the AIO WILL fail, which is a no beauno for giving someone else something that could be prevented, also the gpu temps will suffer regardless because the heat from the gpu is only being pulled out from the top by 1 120mm fan otherwise it's own cooler is it's only source of airflow and if the winner of it uses the TG panel, the temps will skyrocket because of there being literally no intake for the gpu. It almost feels like he NEEDED to use that specific aio and based the whole build around it and the case, which doesnt make sense to me.
That AIO pump is going to die early due to being at the highest point in its closed loop. This might be fixable if the tubes have enough length. Just need to push them behind the GPU and hope that they round out high enough towards the top of the case that it is the new highest point in the closed loop.
I asked myself why he put the radiator on the bottom and the GPU vertical. I would have done the radiator on the top and the GPU just normal. The case looks like it would have fit this way.
Gunna have to agree. Bottom mounted aios are fine, but you have to be very specific on make and model to make sure u get one with proper pump placement. For example the msi mag coolers which houses the pump in the rad.
@@TheTrueSmile I 100% agree. 2 intake bottom with 2 intake top is always a powerful way of cooling any computer. Then the ventilated panel wouldn't even be as necessary for the GPU to get plenty of air to breath if you're into TG panels.
