Yes. Even more so in a recording session when you have to play consistently. Right down to how you hit the drums. The ability to stay "in the moment" is absolutely a talent that very few people have.
RIP Taylor Hawkins. I will always miss your tight stop-go beats, cymbal catches, copeland/peart bell patterns, and watching you flail those elbows of yours.
Black heart with a gaping wound, put back together by a troubled groove. Is now shattered into a million pieces. My thoughts and prayers go out to Taylor's wife, kids, band mates and of course my fellow Foo Fans. Gods added another percussionist to his All star band. Neil Peart, Keith Moon and now Taylor Hawkins. Long Live Rock, be it dead or alive!
3:36 - every drummer knows the feeling of going into a triplet fill and then realizing you're not sure which hand is gonna hit the one - and it's always the wrong one lololol
Chris kinda stays in the backround, but every now and then, he gets riffs or lead sections that really stand out and blow you away. Grohl doesn't waste talent, he lets it shine in Foo Fighters.
the whiskey song at the end?? bahaha I was on the floor in a fit of laughter!!! I swear my love for him grows every day because of things like this!!!!
3:33 look how methodic they are, Taylor realized that fill wasn't as tasty, and this didn't make it to the final take. I don't know if he's watching Dave when he gives that "yeah could've been better, let's finish the take anyways" look They were just *that* proffesional
Love these making ofs videos. This song is so enjoyable, one of my favorite finishes of alltime. Butch Vig definitely added a lot to the creativity. Peace and respect to the Foos for sharing these glimpses of the sausage getting made. 😎
Russell Chee not sure if you’ve seen their Back and Forth documentary but towards the end where they get to the part of recording Wasting Light, I believe Dave says that Nate actually practices his part a lot by himself so that when he goes up to record it’s locked down! Nate definitely deserves more recognition!
One of the reasons I became a drummer myself, I could watch Taylor drumming to this song for hours. Amazingly cool. Didn't realise it back then how could anybody even come up and play something so unusual.
I love this song. Seeing this making of really showcases the complexity of guitar and drum rhythm changes. The Foos just keep evolving with every record.
***** I wonder how that drummer feels. He can never be as good as Dave Grohl. He'll always be the second best drummer in the band. I wish Dave would go back to playing drums instead of trying to sing and play the guitar. He's one of the best drummers ever.
***** In looking at all of these Foo Fighters "Making of..." videos, I've come to the conclusion that the Foo Fighters aren't that great of a band. That bassist was horrible - just playing the root note. Nirvana was way better than this band.
Taylor, we love you. That's not superficial love either brother. It's not PRETEND. Because of you, Taylor and Dave, we can all just Learn to Fly in crazy Times Like These because well, One of These Days, we will all meet again. No need to throw a Monkey Wrench at one another. But instead be gentle, like a River. Taylor, thank you for your time on this earth, you bring the Best the Best the Best of humanity. even if it's a Cold Day in The Sun. RIP, My dearest Hero
+Its not a tumah Not at all. I love The D and his stupid but funny humour. Don't know why I always laugh the shit out of me when I watch one of his films. The argument can be nonsense but if Jack Black is there then its so god damn funny. P.D: If Jack Black had a black brother who used to play the Blackjack card game, would we be talking of a Black Jack Black playing Blackjack?
Damn! I would love to have been the neighbor when they practiced this before laying the tracks. Taylor in his own room was perfect for some drum isolation.
One of my favourite videos of Taylor drumming...rest in peace to an absolute legend and incredible human
Mine too
He was phenomenal
I feel like drumming should be considered a sport
Yes. Even more so in a recording session when you have to play consistently. Right down to how you hit the drums. The ability to stay "in the moment" is absolutely a talent that very few people have.
dude if nascar and golf are sports drumming definitely is
Yeah, drummers don’t get enough credit. It’s reeeeeaaaaalllyy hard work. It’s fun, but there will always be nitpicking of their playing. Ugh.
thank you I've been saying that forever. like how is drumming not considered a sport but golf is
Golf is a sport. Lets see you guys use every muscle in your body and hit a ball over 3 football fields, with accuracy.
7:07 Good god, Pat!
Humza Ahmed right? like stopping jerking off in front of the camera there are kids watching this
Josh Mahan You are right. Really funny!
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaha
+Humza Ahmed I can't unsee this now
+Humza Ahmed The guy looks up at him like.. "DUDE. You got it on my arm!!"
I love watching drummers drum, even when I go to concerts I always find myself captivated by the drummer
I do the exact same thing. I feel drawn to them
Cause were awesome ;) it just takes over us, can't explain the vibe I get when I play.
+Orisni woah buddy no one cares
me too
Yeah, they often get overlooked even though they usually either make or break a band
Dayum, Taylor Hawkin is IN-SANE!! Anybody else admire the drumming skillz!?
+Haassan1 OMG, Pat Smear equally insane. Its so beautifully fluid.
I definitely do!!!!
NO
RIP Taylor Hawkins. I will always miss your tight stop-go beats, cymbal catches, copeland/peart bell patterns, and watching you flail those elbows of yours.
3:36 -"What kind of fill was that?
-"Lol, I dont know...We'll fix it in post."
Taylor a true drummer. See the passion b/c he closes his eyes and feels it. Music/drumming best shit ever!!! Rock on!!!!!!!!!!!
Great drummer Taylor cool men I Love'd 😘
3:36 - every drummer knows the feeling of going into a triplet fill and then realizing you're not sure which hand is gonna hit the one - and it's always the wrong one lololol
0:00 "There's more cameras in here than in a 7-11"
As I'm watching this, my washing machine is running in perfect time... Like, perfect time.
pat smear = legend
+old account = mad
Pat being in the band seems like something done by the Make A Wish Foundation.
absolutely ... grohl's wish...foo's are so lame, for the most part.
squeaka67 your dumb
say what?
Mr Hawkins killed on the drum set....They all are great but Taylor holy hell.
The master Taylor at work. Such a legend, such a loss for all. RIP Taylor 😢
RIP Taylor, may your legacy be always remembered
That clean melodic riff that Shiflett plays at 4:45 sends chills down my spine
Chris kinda stays in the backround, but every now and then, he gets riffs or lead sections that really stand out and blow you away. Grohl doesn't waste talent, he lets it shine in Foo Fighters.
There's nothing like a good solid drum track.
Pat kills it
Seeing Butch play along to Taylors drumming just shows how impactful it is. RIP to my #1 Idol
thank god they didn't stick with that chorus effect on the intro..
I love that Taylor was a main focus. One of the greatest.
9
R.I.P Taylor You will be sadly missed :(
This right here is more than enough. I don't miss the vocals. This is the real talent. Gifted instrumentalists
Such a tight groove and attitude in this song, you can just feel the energy hitting you.
I love thèse videos and man I miss Taylor……. ❤ man. Can’t believe he is not here with us anymore. Left amazing music behind.
I feel like Pat and Chris are criminally underrated. They are both goddamn MONSTERS !
I like that Butch is air drumming to the banging drum parts! You can see that he's a drummer as well.. a very good one too!
I always get so happy whenever I see Pat playing with them. Pat Smear = Legend
the whiskey song at the end?? bahaha I was on the floor in a fit of laughter!!! I swear my love for him grows every day because of things like this!!!!
Dave Obsessed I'm not quite so Dave-obsessed, but that was a classic moment, would love to see/hear more of Dave singing in that silly falsetto.
***** LOL I would very much like that too....more more I want more silly songs haha!!
Dave Obsessed that would be sweet with some R&B
Someone posted the whiskey clip WITH the little ditty about Dave having chickenpox on his balls (from the LA/Outside episode). BEST.CLIP.EVER.
I love the faces Taylor makes when he drums lol
Lol..I hoping dave's daughter would come in and interrupt him again.
Taylor is such an expressive drummer
Butch Vig is by far my favorite producer
You gotta love him. Especially when he spontaneously starts air drumming❤👌
butch is a fucking legend
RIP Taylor🙏🏼
The best drums Taylor intense man passión for the music 😍😘
the cymbals sound amazing!
3:33 look how methodic they are,
Taylor realized that fill wasn't as tasty, and this didn't make it to the final take. I don't know if he's watching Dave when he gives that "yeah could've been better, let's finish the take anyways" look
They were just *that* proffesional
And then you woke up?
RIP in eternal light, Taylor ❤️
Thank you Taylor!!!
This song was made with love.
TAYLOR HAWKINS ON THE DRUMS!!!
Did you not know his name?
Foo Fighters - Whiskey nights
Love these making ofs videos. This song is so enjoyable, one of my favorite finishes of alltime. Butch Vig definitely added a lot to the creativity. Peace and respect to the Foos for sharing these glimpses of the sausage getting made. 😎
7:54 Nate goes, my turn! lol
Kryptor360 dude, he had that bass line on lock.
How much I would give to have a life where making music is all I do. And I would do that for a living.
luuk341 I feel you, bro
It can be done!
It's hard.
I love this song. Seeing this making of really showcases the complexity of guitar and drum rhythm changes. The Foos just keep evolving with every record.
I love watching Taylor 😢
Hearing him drum always makes my head rock.
4:28 I'm dying man!!!
Its so damn satisfying to watch when they nail it. So much talent in one room (or two rooms)a
Every time Taylor hits the snare...
7:07 someone make a gif out of that!
+Beutax THAT'S HILARIOUS!!! That is a gif waiting to happen for sure.

Love these Foo Fighter in the studio videos, awesome!
Taylor Sick!!!
I'll say one thing for granted, but they are phenomenal. Even the most trivial things, in their hands they become masterpieces
Taylor is a hell of a rock drummer
They work so hard to get it right, RIP Taylor, you will be missed
I love this.
***** I wonder how that drummer feels. He can never be as good as Dave Grohl. He'll always be the second best drummer in the band. I wish Dave would go back to playing drums instead of trying to sing and play the guitar. He's one of the best drummers ever.

Your expertise is clearly Reggae my friend.
***** My expertise are in all forms of music including Rock.
Reggae Fan Your expertise is being a loser.
Love their videos. So glad they let us in on watching the music being created. Masters at their crafts for certain
Only God knows how much I love these guys
So when's the "gonna have some whiskey tonight" single coming out Dave?
It's on the Phoney Bologna EP.
John Doge Jaajja
Nicki Lindström not soon enough
One of their best songs, for sure ! Powerful and Frenetic, equally.
0:20 that pause is so good woaaaaa
I will forever miss you legend
You really have to appreciate the hours upon hours of practice it must have taken to get to that point!
Taylor, we love you. That's not superficial love either brother. It's not PRETEND.
Leri Jara Pat Smear!
En vivo también es más preciso de lo que parece, a pesar de tocar más suelto y saltar. Cuando escuchaba un show de Nirvana siempre me sorprendía su guitarra.
This song seems to have a lot more potential here, that what it ended up as in the final version, that you hear on the record.
Rest In Power Taylor
Taylor Hawkins.. absolute machine
Really nice to see them at work.
love that bass sound
excelente material, Miguel!!
Taylor plays the drums like he is in constant pain
totally...haha
Totally worth it though
Orlando Benitez the only way to do it lol

Awesome!!! I love them!!!
Pat Smear always nails it.
Cool as hell that Dave shares this bootleggy stuff.
@W 9797 Behind the scenes. Like unreleased.
One thing I love about the Foos is each member is a master of their craft.
Rip Taylor.

I LOVE THIS SONG!
I LOVE THESE GUYS.
6:49 Butch's Face... You don't see that very often. ;)
7:09 having a good time there Pat?!
Great drum take!
Dave was doing all that shit right before those awesome vocals.
9:34 Come on Dave has spent too much time with Jack Black.
+12truk and thats a bad thing?
+Its not a tumah Not at all. I love The D and his stupid but funny humour. Don't know why I always laugh the shit out of me when I watch one of his films. The argument can be nonsense but if Jack Black is there then its so god damn funny.
