There aren't many female vocalists I really admire, maybe 10,- Whitney, Aretha, Diana Ross, Marilyn McCoo, and a few others, but as you mention, Linda did it all, and did it with the best of any genre.
She needs to be on Rolling Stones top 200 best singers… My favorite is “Blue Bayou”! I believe you’ve already reacted to that one! Definitely a worthwhile vocalist!
The Doris Troy original version actually peaked higher on the Billboard hot 100 chart at #10 in1963, while both Linda's remake and the Hollies version each only got to #44 on that chart in their respective years.
I don’t know if anyone remembers “Marilyn McCoo” and the 5th Dimension - (One Less Bell To Answer) but you really should give it a spin ! It’s fantastic. 😊
They actually have reacted to 5th Dimension/Aquarius & Let the Sun Shine❤️ and also Billy Davis, Jr & Marilyn McCoo/It Takes Two! Love those! Loved watching It Takes Two again.
Everyone who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s knew who Linda Ronstadt was. What a powerful voice! Glenn Fry and Don Henley who created The Eagles, started with Linda!! She helped them get started. Great lady!
I’m going to repeat what I’ve suggested previously. From her venture into the popular standards with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra- “Someone to Watch Over Me “. When she recorded these classics she included the verse, which many artists leave out. This song shows her versatility. Next: “ Down So Low”, shows her soulful side, and it will give you goosebumps. “ Try Me Again” is from the same album. Finally, from her country era, “ Silver Thread and Golden Needles”. She also did a cover of “Crazy”, which was originally by Patsy Cline.
I believe you forgot What's New with the Nelson riddle orchestra. 😀 An interesting fact about the Nelson riddle orchestra, they were the ones who did a very iconic TV theme song in the 60's. Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da BATMAN!!!
@@chuckragland9972 Oh, I didn’t forget. I have all of her albums with Nelson Riddle. The song I suggested is one of my favorites she did with him. And yes, the Batman theme is fab! Actually, the album by John Mayhall, that has Eric Clapton on it has a song that, the minute I heard it, it was the Batman theme. I’m sorry I don’t remember the actual song title. I’ll have to look it up. Back to Linda, her voice is one that I can easily get lost in. How about her rendition of “Feels Like Home”, a Randy Newman composition? It’s just beautiful. And the 2 albums she did with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton? Extraordinary vocals!
Such a good voice. Silver Threads and Golden Needles, When Will I Be Loved, It's So Easy, Different Drum, Love Is A Rose, Love Has No Pride, Tracks of My Tears, and so many more. Great choice!
I love that musical! I also love the movie Kristy McNichol did (The Pirate Movie) that was a version of that tale. I'd love if that'd react to the movie one day also. :)

I want to tell you about the prettiest and greatest and soulful heart song that Linda ever did, and in my opinion, one of the greatest songs ever record. “Long Long,Time”
My father (RIP) was a huge fan of Linda, so I was raised on her albums. Hearing songs such as this just brings back warm childhood memories from the late 70s/early 80s.
This is the studio production. You need to hear all her music live because that's where she turns up the power. Bit of trivia, in the early days Linda always sang barefoot.
Yet another genre for Linda. This is straight R&B, and she kills it. This is a cover, the original is by Doris "Mama Soul" Troy. You should do the original.
Oh Linda you are the best. Miss you! First time I heard you sing I was attending the University of Arizona and you were with the Stone Ponies. Fell in love with your voice that night. Love when you sang with Emy Lou Harris. By the way I went on to teach. Linda’s nephews were in my school and her cousin Brandy was in my class. When Linda was home in Tucson she would come to all of her nephew and cousin performances. She would always sit quietly in the back. We all respected her privacy. She has accomplished so much. Including environmental issues in Tucson.🎶❤️🎶
Two of my favourite Linda Ronstadt songs are 'Blue Bayou' (and I love Roy Orbison's version too, particularly since he wrote the song) and 'You're No Good'. I also recommend watching the documentary about her life, 'Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice', which covers the full span of her career up to her sad Parkinson's disease diagnosis which tragically is robbing her of her voice and the amazing range she had.
Linda Ronstadt did three albums of "standards" (perennially popular songs from the 1920s through 1950s). Would love to hear your reaction to one of those such as "Crazy He Calls Me" or "What's New?"
Now you should check out the Hollies' cover of this song. They did a total British Invasion version of it -- and it's a great example of Graham Nash in his pre-Crosby, Stills & Nash days. (BTW, please honor the passing of David Crosby with some CSN or Byrds music -- I would suggest a little-played Byrds song, "Have You Seen Her Face?" which has gorgeous harmonies.)
@@user-ii4zf5iq3t it is, Doris Troy cowrote and sang this song in 1963, the Hollies covered it a year or 2 later. This version is probably late 70's or really early 80's.
Doris Troy's is better imo this is good but Doris made it hers Try her version I think it would be neat to react to all the versions of a song in order
She sold more records than any female artist in the 70's. Think of all of the great women who made music in the 70's. That's shows how good she was. Anyone who lived through the 70's knows she's on the greatest of all time list.
Linda is like Elvis. She refused to be limited to one kind of music. She has warmth and power and humanity in her voice and, like Elvis, she sounds even better live. She's funny and kind and well read. She also gives so much back in life. She's one of those people who have made their mark in life by impacting the lives of others in a positive way. I'm rambling now but i just can't say enough good things about this woman. We could do with more people like her.
Best live pipes on the planet. From the mid 70s to the early 80s she owned the airways and the arenas. Then she took that remarkable voice elsewhere. Ronstadt always had our hearts. Great bands, great gal...sigh.
As always, thanks and hope you enjoy your time in New Orleans. Linda's documentary "Linda Rondstadt The Sound of My Voice will make you cry, laugh, sing, and learn so much about Linda and all the musicians and singers that influenced her, though she always walked the the beat of a "Different Drum"
Linda Ronstadt part of a supergroup in the 80s called The Trio. It consisted of Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris. All amazing vocalists obviously, and the harmonies are incredible. Also, definitely dive down the rabbit hole of Emmylou Harris. She does a great cover of Simon & Garfunkel's The Boxer, and her song "Til I Gain Control Again" brings me to tears almost every time I hear it.
My favorite Emmylou tune is Boulder to Birmingham. She wrote it while she was grieving the death of Gram Parsons and released it in 1975. Dolly Parton and Joan Baez both covered it in 1976. Joan covered it in concert for her 1976 live double LP album release. Tom Wopat sang it on an episode of The Dukes of Hazzard in 1984. Bill Danoff, who co-wrote it, recorded it with Starland Vocal Band on their debut album.
Yes more Emmylou please! Lots of Linda and Dolly reactions. Boulder to Birmingham IS probably her signature song, since it's about her friend and mentor.
Fantastic rendition here by Linda Ronstadt !! She made many of these songs her own!! For a couple of rockin' songs you MUST try "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" & "Tumbling Dice".
If it hasn't been mentioned yet, look for a documentary film that CNN made a few years ago called "Linda Ronstadt - The Sound of My Voice." I think you'll enjoy it. You'll appreciate her even more, and learn a lot about the music industry in the 60s, 70s and beyond.
It was co-written and recorded by Doris Troy in 1963. The Hollies recorded it in 1964. Anne Murray did it in 1974. Linda was the last to record it in 1978.
The song was only 15 years old when she covered it. The original was recorded in 1963 and used in an early '90s Pepsi ad starring Cindy Crawford that was reused during the 2001 superbowl.
There is an excellent documentary you can watch on UA-cam about Linda called “Linda Ronstadt The Sound Of My Voice”. It tells her life story and her impact on music. She’s much more than just a singer.
This is a remake of a 1963 song by Doris Troy which once again, she makes her own. The way she does the "Ca--a--are"! is how it's done in the original as well. She stayed fairly close to the way the original is sung but the instrumentation is different and her ad-libs toward the end are different. Huge hit for her.
You have to give a nod to the 50’s/60’s do-Wop style with this song. If you think along those lines that’s where she was paying tribute to. She literally is a Once in a generation vocal talent! I am Blessed to have heard her in her prime!
Her collaboration with Nelson Riddle on the “What’s New” album was fantastic. You should check out “Someone to Watch Over Me”, “What’s New”, and “What’ll I Do”.
Many of Linda's top 40 hits were remakes, this is one of them. Linda often did a better version than the original which is rare, but she was a rare talent.
You guys should watch the movie History Of The Eagles. You’ll get the connection Linda had to the Eagles, Jackson Browne, and so many more. Plus it give you a good idea of the LA scene at the time.
Would love to see more Eagles reactions, especially live. 4 lead singers, great harmonies, great lyrics people remember for a lifetime, and great musicianship!
Doris Troy co-wrote “Just One Look” along with Greg Carroll and released it in 1963 with a slower tempo danceable beat. The Hollies covered the song , which charted in England in 1964. They re-released it in the US IN 1967 and it charted then as well. Linda gave it a more up tempo rockin’ beat when she covered it in 1978. Great live performance as always,
I feel any Linda Ronstadt song, duet or play performance is worth a listen. I know i’ll hear one of the best female voices with perfect pitch, crazy vocal range, the softness, the power, and everything else with ease every time.
Some more great Linda Ronstadt songs: "Heat Wave," "Tracks of My Tears," "It's so Easy," "I Can't Let Go," "How Do I Make You." "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me," "Tumbling Dice," and "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me."
I hit "like" because I adore Linda, but guys....she has SOOOO many hits, "Desperado", "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" "A Long, Long Time", her duet with James Ingraham "Somewhere Out There", I hope we don't have to wait too long to hear another one
The version that I knew was by the Hollies which they released in 1964. Theirs reached No. 2 in UK and was a major hit in other countries. Linda released hers in 1978.
Originally recorded in 1963 by Doris Troy. She co-wrote it with Gregory Carroll. In addition to this cover, it's been recorded by The Hollies and Anne Murray. Doris Troy's version was used in a Pepsi commercial starring Cindy Crawford that aired during the Superbowl in 2001.
Oh! Sigh! There's just one Linda! Hope Luca is better soon. Heading over to Film Friday next! Again, please check out Linda singing 'lead' on the Trio song, "Telling Me Lies". What a powerful tune. Gosh, I love this lady so. Wow Jay. Guess we were lucky to be seventeen or so when "Different Drum" came out. That made us pay attention, lol. You go, Amber! Real nice reaction guys. Thanks! ❤❤🧡
“Just one look” was written by R&B artists Doris Troy & Gregory Carrol. Doris’ recording of it was a hit in 1963. The Hollies, Anne Murray & Linda Ronstadt & many others had great covers of the song over the years.
Linda had one of the greatest set of "pipes" ever. Her cover of "You're No Good" and "Long, Long Time" is awesome. So many great songs she recorded, in English and Spanish and was responsible for getting a lot of groups together back in the day including the Eagles.
Linda did remakes of a lot of songs that influenced her as a young girl. This one is a remake of Doris Troy’s version, which came out in 1963. So you’re hearing an early rock ‘n’ roll song, which is why it sounds a little bit different. I love some of her covers of Motown songs, like Heatwave, Tracks of my Tears and especially Ooh Baby Baby.
In addition to her Motown covers, she covered Dee Dee Warwick's first single, You're No Good. Dee Dee was the younger sister of Dionne Warwick. Their mother was the older sister of Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother. Leontyne Price is Cissy's cousin.
I had two aunts that weren't shockingly older than me, they had all the cool LPs, a room with shag carpet, sweet hi-fi and I definitely remember this one from when I was around kindergarten.
I first crossed paths with her magnificent voice when I was 8ish when “Different Drum” was released and she’s been with me through every phase of my life. I’m thrilled to see y’all in the younger gens discovering her. She’s also a marvelous human being and her courage throughout her battle with supranuclear palsy (which took her voice) is inspirational. Sending daily thoughts, prayers, and love to my vocal idol 🎼🎤❤😍🙏🏻🇲🇽🇺🇸
I agree with Scott. I love the song “Silver Threads and Golden Needles “ by Linda. That was back in the sixties. She has a unique voice with anything she sings. She sings that Spanish music from her heart. They were her father’s song so she recorded them. She is awesome!!!
In 1986 Linda Rondstandt sang a beautiful duet with James Ingram from the animated children''s film "An American Tale" called "Somewhere Out There" which is definitely worth a listen.
Originally written by Doris Troy, this song was a great hit for the Hollies (one of my absolute favourite bands ever) in 1964.

Another beautiful live version of Down so Low just mesmerizing.
next song should be her amazing version of "desperado" by the Eagles...
I hit "like" because I adore Linda, but guys....she has SOOOO many hits, "Desperado", "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" "A Long, Long Time", her duet with James Ingraham "Somewhere Out There", I hope we don't have to wait too long to hear another one
You need to check out Linda's cover of a 40s big band song with Nelson Riddle orchestra called. "What's New" Stunning vocals.
Every song on that is a gem.
Her song "Willin'" is unbelievably beautiful.
Long Long Time is a must as you dive into Linda’s songs. Haunting vocals🤗
The version that I knew was by the Hollies which they released in 1964. Theirs reached No. 2 in UK and was a major hit in other countries. Linda released hers in 1978.
Anne Murray covered it in 1974.
Linda covered Rolling Stones classic Tumbling Dice. Awesome 🔥🎶🔥🎶🔥🎶
Another ( of SO many) great Linda songs to check out --"I cant let go"!
Oh! Thanks! ❤❤🧡
"Telling Me Lies" is one of my all-time favorite songs, their voices together are magnificent.
“Just one look” was written by R&B artists Doris Troy & Gregory Carrol. Doris’ recording of it was a hit in 1963. The Hollies, Anne Murray & Linda Ronstadt & many others had great covers of the song over the years.
I love that y'all love different era and group of singers and their songs. As I do too.
Linda had one of the greatest set of "pipes" ever. Her cover of "You're No Good" and "Long, Long Time" is awesome. So many great songs she recorded, in English and Spanish and was responsible for getting a lot of groups together back in the day including the Eagles.
I think Long long time is her best vocal performance.
The Doris Troy version is one of my all time favorite songs. That and Ben E King “Stand By Me”
She does such a great version of this old tune, like she always does.
I think the phrase you are looking for is,”easy listening rock”. Of course with Linda everything is easy listening.
You really NEED TO listen to her do the old crooner music. Her Nelson Riddle album is fantastic, anything on it!
Absolutely one of the best singers ever.
Linda is better than any of those other names you mentioned.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LINDA RONSTADT!!
Linda Ronstadt! On top of everyone else, all I can say is "OOH Baby Baby" La, la, la, la
I know when it's a Linda Ronstadt song I can hit the like button right away; it's gotta be good 👍. Thanks for featuring her again.
The original song was recorded by Doris Troy ( 1963).

I agree with Scott. I love the song “Silver Threads and Golden Needles “ by Linda. That was back in the sixties. She has a unique voice with anything she sings. She sings that Spanish music from her heart. They were her father’s song so she recorded them. She is awesome!!!
This song is one of my favorite Linda Ronstadt songs. The upbeat and the quiver in her voice. Love her! ❤️
Linda Ronstadt is a powerhouse. If you haven't already reacted to this one, I'd like to request
"Different Drum"
To hear Miss Linda really rock, listen to her cover of The Stones "Tumblin Dice"...smoking hot!!!!
You have to listen to her song, " Long, Long Time" just so beautiful
Linda is a voice of greatness from then. Glad you found her! Love her singing. ❤🥰⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘
Queen of her scene. Linda's voice had a rare combination of power and tenderness. The boyz loved her so much...we still do. Thanx.
This is one to turn up full blast when you're home alone, for no reason.
In 1986 Linda Rondstandt sang a beautiful duet with James Ingram from the animated children''s film "An American Tale" called "Somewhere Out There" which is definitely worth a listen.
I always loved Blue Bayou, but I remember this from a commercial in the late 80's!
