🤣 Grew up with this treasure. How many artists can do this?
    Grammys & nominations
By all means, not all of them, there are many more but just enough to show how many different styles she could dominate.
1976 Best Female vocal - Contemporary
1976 Best Female vocal - Country
1981 Best Female Vocal - Rock
1983 Best Female Vocal - Pop
1984 Best Female Vocal - Big Band (Lush Life)
1988 Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group (Trio)
1989 Best Female Vocal - Mexican
    1990 Best Female Vocal - R & B (Don't know much)
1993 Best Female Vocal - Latin
    1997 Best Album for Children
& Let us not for forget
2007's Best Traditional Folk Album - Adieu False Heart & It's all done In ... French 😱
That's the 3rd language her music has been nominated for a Grammy in - In the USA.
& Trust me when I say she can do jazz too.
Yes, she could do whatever she wanted & often did, which kept her from rising to super stardom. She deserved it.

She set the bar way above the phony super stardom crap. She is a superstar on her OWN terms. She was a true musician and artist instead. A trailblazer. She called the shots from day one. she was a folk singer first, added country sounding stuff, then eventually proved to be above categorization...she kept redefining herself.

They weren't really her backing band. They weren't actually a band at all at that point. They were just random session musicians that had never met before that she hired for a week long gig she was doing for Disney. But they loved playing together so much for that week that they decided they would have a go at actually starting a band together.

Linda is perhaps the greatest voice we've ever heard. She's on a shelf with Karen Carpenter, Pat Benetar and maybe Dolly Parton. But because of her range from country to rock to pop to even classical Mexican music is off the charts, she's kind of on a shelf of her own. I went to the same High School here in Tucson that Linda went to, altho 20 years later. She was still all they talked about. I think you can see why. She is an amazingly beautiful woman in every respect. Inside and out. There will never be another like her.

Unlike today, she didn't need autotune. What a great voice for real. You mentioned you liked the Steel Guitar sound, that brought you back to country music. If you would like to hear a steel guitar in a more rock genre try The Pretenders ...back on the chain gang, middle of the road etc....even good for female friday with Chrissy Hynde (apologies if I didn't spell that right)

For some modern country with a throwback sound, check out Junior Brown. He built what he calls the 'guit-steel' which is a double necked electric guitar and steel guitar in the same body. He plays both masterfully and has a unique voice as well. I suggest "Broke Down South of Dallas" - live at Austin City Limits.

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock. She has had so many hits such as "Blue Bayou", "You're No Good", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs.

I love the description of her as a "Swiss Army Knife" -- she really was that versatile. She could sing in nearly every musical style and still delivered exactly what the songs required. The gift and skill of a real singer is not technique alone at a loud volume to show off, but to intelligently interpret the song in congruence with the meaning of the lyrics and the mood, with superb musical phrasing, breath support, and interpretation. Instead of turning the song into another operatic sh*t show for showing off vocal skills. Here, Ronstadt holds back [as did Roy Orbison originally] for dramatic effect on the verses, and on the Chorus, expressing and bursting out emotional joy at "returning someday to her home at Blue Bayou." this provides perfect contrast and variety in the song, instead screaming all the way through it. Aside from her powerful talented vocal skills, Linda Ronstadt was an intelligent master at this as evidenced in her later work in big band, mariachi and light opera, as well as ballads. if you are a power singer, use your skills wisely about the song first and the singer second. Check out her documentary The Sound of My Voice, available on youtube, and get the full story.

PSP is a lesser known neurodegenerative brain disease, for which there is no cure & no effective treatment or management. Early symptoms are so similar, it’s often misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s & in early stages, it even falls into a group of diseases referred to as “Atypical Parkinsonism”, but it’s a distinctly different disease which progresses faster, causes more severe & differing symptoms, responds poorly to medication & has a significantly reduced life expectancy. So very, very sad.
