Laurel Shimer. Yes, it's Marcell waves, not curls. I remember this because when I was a child, I was once having trouble drawing the hair on a girl's profile & when I asked my aunt how to draw hair, she did a sketch of a girl with a Marcell wave. Being only 6 or 7, I'd never seen that style & thought it was strange, laughed & asked my aunt what it was. She told me the name of the style, said it had been very popular when she was young. Years later she styled my hair in a Marcell wave, using long curved hair clips, for a costume party. I think the name of the style originated with the brand name of a setting lotion; then it became so popular that the style became known as the Marcell. (Not sure how it's spelled, with one 'l' or two or with an 'e' at the end, but it looked great with the fashions of the period & like the bob, it was perfect for keeping its shape under the popular hats of that time.)
He was the best Wimsey, Petherbridge was way to old for the part. As for the ads, I guess it makes a difference what time you watch--the only two ads I saw were at the very beginning.

what's with all the ads? impossible to watch. These were the worst I've seen.
