It's so disconcerting to realize that I watched these in "junior high" and that I am now older than Marsden was in this series. I only wish to be that classy. 😬
If I didn't look up the cast for this episode, I never would have believed that Angela Foley was "Vera". Makes me appreciate her acting ability much more.
These Naturalistic Crime Dramas are marvelous, I like the detail and the long pauses for consideration. The Actor who plays Laurimer's Father is particularly impeccable in his role.
I cannot look at Dalgliesh without seeing the lovechild of Kevin Costner and Donald Sutherland... lol Thank you very much for the upload. So much to take in. Lots of fun.
"People who have a perfect alibi - usually need one" Sherlock Holmes. Most of the characters seem to lining up to become excellent suspects - shades of Agatha Christie. Poirot would have them all in a room by now so that he could say "I shall now reveal the real murderer"
I wish crime dramas were like this today. I worked out I was ten when this came on the tv. If only we could turn back the clock and relive it all. The U.K. had such brilliant dramas, nowadays they are more bothered of having a diverse cast even if they weren’t around in historic plays. Absolutely ridiculous.
"diverse cast"?? don't you mean black, brown and oriental people? or did you think that there were no such persons in the UK when you were 10 years old? You may think you are being 'discreet' in your so very racist comment, but you are only fooling yourself. YOU are very much a racist.
We either walk better these days or you cannot eradicate the sound of leather soled shoes sliding on linoleum! I miss the days when you could hear everyone coming but in this it’s quite a distraction.
Please forgive my ignorence, but english isn´t my first language. But, "guys march," I´ve heard them say it a couple of time now. Is that another word for the police-station?
Have scenes been cut? They mention Lorrimer throwing the children out of Hoggarts, and somebody leaving in the middle of a village show, but those scenes were not shown in the previous episodes?
I'm sure when I first saw this year's ago there was a scene which showed Howarth leaving the village show and sitting in a gravestone in the localcemetery but it's never been in any You Tube version
There definitely were. I (American) was a student in London during the 1984-85 school year, and one of the 1st things I noticed was that virtually all the cars I saw were mid-sized or compact, which was so much saner. (It's possible that parking hassles in London prompted the purchase of smaller cars -- maybe people in smaller cities, suburbs, and rural areas still had bigger, but I'm doubtful, because gas/petrol has always been much costlier in Europe, and that prompts people to buy smaller cars.)
Miji Yoon They used to be in many places, both private and public. They were mostly in restrooms of offices, service stations, public transportion, etc.
These shows are absolutely marvelous.
Procedurals. No CSI. All character and motives. And it’s like they’re not even acting.
Mr. Cusack literally became the senior Mr. lorrimer. He embodied the part. He was completely believable. What an incredible actor!
……Cyril Cusack’s daughters’, Sinead, Sorcha, & Niamh are all well established actresses’………
Great actor.
He totally stole the scene!
Wow. How did I miss that Dagleish lost his wife in childbirth. Must have happened during the jump to '6 weeks later' in episode 2
It was done very poorly imho.
That 10 minutes of Cyril Cussack were brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
doddering dad...perfection, what a talent

"Knees together, ankles kicking out like ducks!" That's exactly my running form of 😂😂😂😂😂.
I'm sitting here thinking that there's a bunch of other characters I'd like to see murdered as well.
I shouldn't laugh, but I did. Perhaps because we all have real-life examples of them.
@@numbereightyseven Oh Yes! LOL
Yep 😂
Dalglish digs in the lavatory drain for vomit and never washes his hands afterwards?
Please Lord don't let Ann get the kids
Cyril Cusack, father of Sorcha Cusack who plays Mrs. McCarthy on Father Brown.
Incredible episode
Cyril Cusack stole the show in this episode.
He totally did 😂❤

Karloffrules udiscard
Karloffrules spot on.

Not "the murderer", Poirot would have said "the culprit". :)
Love seeing VERA as a youngster. No mistaking that voice !! ❤
THANK YOU, THESE ARE GREAT!
This is based on a book by P. D. James. That was enough for me to watch it, and I haven't been disappointed.
A very young and attractive Brenda Blethyn!
Love This Music 🥰😻

I have lost count of how many people have run up those stairs.
Enjoyed the movie. Thanks.
The cleaning lady is such a busybody.
The cleaning lady knows it all. The perfect witness.

enjoying this! thnks.

The dotty father turned out to be sharp enough.
thank for posting
Vicars Wife Pikes Mam Dads Army
Love this one the most
WHOA. D’s wife dies in between episodes ?!?! And he doesn’t change one whit?!? Cheerful, personable - WHEN DID SHE DIE?
Between eps 2 and 3.
She died in childbirth and the child with her.
Thank you!
A German-language adaptation set in Munich would probably be a lot livelier.
48:05 The inspector fastens his seat belt, but Dalgliesh doesn't!
Just to be precise: This aired in April and May 1983, so it was probably shot in late 1982.
❤
I notice that in this series, everyone drives a BIG car, gas guzzlers. Were there no smaller cars then? I seem to recall there were! :)

😂😂😂
disinterested/uninterested😂
The cousin is Vera!!!!
I can see how it influenced The Wire.
9:13 No gloves or simple hand hygiene 🤢🤮
Ok so where is the last episode?????
What is the name of the actor who plays Dalgliesh's sidekick, John? Weren't they both in the "Sandbaggers" series together?
No
John Vine was never in The Sandbaggers.
Kotex dispenser on the wall...Gawd almighty!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Miji Yoon They used to be in many places, both private and public. They were mostly in restrooms of offices, service stations, public transportion, etc.
WHY IS IT SO CHOPPED UP
IT IS Q SHAME...
Why does these english cleaningladies in films have hats wile working? I have lived in UK in the 60ties and never seen one!
She wasn't the cleaning lady but she was the Vicar's wife.
34
Hard to believe. Looks like something that came out yesterday, despite the cars and hairstyles.
Too many damned commercials.
